Kim didn't know what to think of his House.

It wasn't the House he would have chosen for himself, nor was it the place he'd wanted to be.

Hell, he didn't even think he had any of the qualities that Gryffindors were supposed to possess. It was beyond him as to why the Hat had felt the need to place him in this House.

Unless it was simply going by the fact that his mother had been in it. But then, why not place him in his father's House then? Why did it choose his mother's? And for that matter, why not place him in Ravenclaw, which truthfully suited his personality and talents much more. The Hat was supposed to be able to look deep into your soul and find the House that you truly belonged in. Maybe the Hat was getting a little old and was unable to see as well as it used to.

Regardless, what was done was done. There had never been a second sorting throughout the history of Hogwarts. No one had ever been able to go into a different House once they'd gone into the first one. So Kim had to make the best of it. Time to think about other things, like the race at hand right now. He kind of was pulled in two different directions. Part of him wanted Gryffindor to win because not only was it his mother's House but Kim was in the House too.

Even if he didn't think he fit in the House...

Kim didn't like to lose and would support his House as much as he could to ensure they won.

But the other part of him wanted Ravenclaw to win because seriously, all kidding aside, Kim felt as if he belonged to that House more. If he didn't have to worry about parental expectations, he would have 100% been selected to be part of Ravenclaw. He was sure of that and because of this, he felt the need to support the House. Albeit, secretly. After all, supporting it publicly against Gryffindor would probably cause too much trouble for the boy.

Sophia asked him a question, grabbing his arm, and Kim glanced over at her. "I think he got turned around by some kind of spell. Or maybe it was an effect from a spirit, being or creature. I've heard those types of things come onto the course to wreck havoc sometimes." Kim told her and let his eyes flicker down at the girl, who was now cuddling up against his shoulder. Well, it was rainy and cold, so he supposed it was fine.

It was only when she started to tease him that Kim rolled his eyes.

"You never know until the end of the race! Ravenclaw could be ahead up until the last section and then Gryffindor could overtake them at the end!"

Kim reminded her and raised a brow when Sophia buried her head into his shoulder.

What was that for? He didn't get why she was reacting like that. Had she gotten embarrassed about saying her team would win and then realized she was being too confident? Kim smirked. "Don't worry, there's a lot of people who speak first and think later. I'm sure you're realizing your mistakes now. Watch and let's see who will cross the finish line first!" He said and smirked when Ari stopped with his hand outstretched a bit.

The racers emerged from the waterfall section and into a new section, where doxies surrounded them. Kim watched as the top three, 2 of them Ravenclaws, got bit and attacked by them. But Nicholas was able to fly past, leaving them behind in his wake. Only to get hit by a slowing charm by Bloom. Kim shook his head a bit. "Both teams seem to have an issue with playing fair it seems. I don't know what I think of all this." Kim told his friend.

"However, since it is a broom race, I don't think you should attack the player's brooms. Attacking the person riding it is one thing but their broom? Bloom should have cast a spell on Nicholas, not his broom in my opinion. Or done the same as Hugh had done to her earlier." Kim said with a shrug. "But that's just me." He paused. "Well, unless the rules state you can do anything to your opponents."

"Then, that's a different story." He said.

Kim hadn't had enough time to read up about everything relating to broom racing.

So he didn't really know too much about the rules. The rain had seemed to slow a bit, although it was still pouring down. But at least it wasn't like a rainstorm anymore. Now it was just a steady downpour. Kim had to admit, the Umbrella Charm was something he considered to be very useful. It might be one of his favorites actually which made him smirk a bit at the thought. Kim didn't like getting wet, that is unless he was taking a shower of course.

Or swimming. Come to think of it, he hadn't swum in ages, maybe he would this summer.

Spring Races Gryffindor V Ravenclaw Spectator Thread April 2022
Sophia grinned as another Ravenclaw, a first year, made her way to the front of the pack as a result of some top-notch teamwork with Clair. Her Ravenclaw pride intensified, and she shouted a loud word of encouragement to her housemates.

"Ravenclaw's pulling ahead, though. Between Bloom and that other girl, Lin? I think Ravenclaw has this in the bag."

From her spot in Kim's shoulder, Sophia winced as another rock hit Bloom clear in the back. Jeez. What was with Gryffindor and cheating? And not only cheating, but throwing rocks at each other? That was just rude.

"Both teams seem to have an issue with playing fair it seems. I don't know what I think of all this," Kim said as Bloom cast a Slowing charm on the Gryffindor who'd pulled ahead. Sophia was torn. On the one hand, she didn't like seeing her house cheat like that. But on the other hand, she'd literally had two rocks thrown at her, so a bit of vengeance on the enemy house was a bit fair, right?

"That one boy threw two rocks at her! She's only catching back up to where she would have been if Gryffindor hadn't cheated!"

She paused thoughtfully, "But, yeah. I hate cheating too. It's why I like duelling. They don't cheat at all, 'cause there's no way to get away with it."

Then the leaders of the pack reached the next step of the race, and Sophia winced.

Doxies? Why on God's green earth were there doxies in a broom race? Obstacles were one thing, but doxies were venomous. Sophia wasn't great at spellcasting, but she was good at the theory behind it, and she knew that the racers being bitten would need antidotes quickly. This was getting bad. The little creatures were bad enough anyway, but tracking them in this horrible downpour? It was almost impossible.

"Oof. Doxies. I hate the little things," she said with a frown.

The sky was raining cats and dogs, in match with her insurmountable worries. Her second match as a captain, it was incredibly nerve wracking to say the least knowing who they were against. Gryffindor. Not that they were terrifying by any means, sure, they were great but not more capable than her birds. Nicholas was there, playing in the field on another team. If it were another team other than Ravenclaw, she wanted him to win in a heartbeat. Maybe second place wouldn’t be so bad, they won in the last match, what else would they want? Aurora arrived in a pastel pink raincoat with no banner in her hands, the rain was to blame. She felt somewhat relieved that she could make an excuse for the lack of cheering property by saying not wanting to ruin her creation if someone would ask. The truth was so far from it. Her indecisive heart just couldn’t decide who to cheer for, scared of making her team think that she was a traitor. So in this match, she would sit and watch. Her presence alone should be enough to put fire in her team’s and the boy’s eyes.

So far so good. Bloom, on the other hand, the oldest of them all, seemed to hit the most trees because of her speed. Perhaps some scratches here and there, nothing would knock her off her broom yet. If she thinks about it more, this thing should be illegal. Broom is the equivalent of a car, or a motorcycle. And these underaged wizards did not have licence or any type of training except in flying class which couldn’t be enough. And here they were, zoomed in full speed, face planted on everything in front of them whilst also throwing things at each other. No one actually did it yet, but knowing how brutal the birds were before, it could happen again. Magical people were built differently, maybe their bones were made of steel or something. She actually was glad to not partake in this match, because if she were, the distraction was too hard to handle. Look at him, yes, Nicholas. Even when he hit a tree, he still looked as graceful as ever. She noticed everything he did and didn’t do, the way his hair fell into places like dominoes, the way-

“NO!” Two of her racers were down because of that stupid waterfall. Maybe she had to push them into working their strength up, work on their grip more. But at the same time she didn’t want to be too harsh, they were just first years. The school was traumatising enough, she didn’t want to be another reason for their sorrow. Then her gaze shifted back to the one and only, Nicholas. He was strong, he passed the challenge like it was nothing. Even when wet, his hair still looked ten times better than the others, no offence. Not everyone was gifted with awesome hair.

Speaking of throwing things at people, it finally happened. Not from the birds, but the lions. That giant sneaky old farts decided to target her racer. The audacity. She knew he was the previous co captain, something huge was his name. She would memorise that face of his, so she could plan something evil later on. He definitely intimidates her, no doubt. But if it’s a revenge for her team, she’d do anything even if her punch would feel like a little poke to him. Once again, her attention was drawn away from what’s important. Nicholas, yes. The star of the show. One second he was thriving, the next second some creatures bothered him. Not just him, but also her racers. Lin and Bloom. Those tiny creatures looked familiar. She liked to call them flying salamanders. Their cute teeth were ready to bite. She didn’t know the exact effect, but it surely was painful. Again, one other reason to be grateful that she did not play in this match.

Bloom and her knowledge of spells were awesome. Part of her hated it that Nicholas was the target, but the other part of her was ecstatic to see the winning possibility. Nicholas was flying slower than ever, making it an advantage for Lin. But the wind was blowing hard, Aurora was a bit worried that Lin wouldn’t survive. The victory was near, beyond her reach. One unit, two units, and she did it. Lin did it. Ravenclaw won. It honestly felt like a dream, Aurora just lost for words. She looked at her racers then at the Gryffindors with her mouth slightly agape. Then it sank, they really won, with her as their captain.

So this is how it feels.

Kim nodded at Sophia's remark.

"Mm, doxies tend to have bites that sting I hear." He commented, as they watched.

The race continued and Kim watched as Hugh tried to throw a huge and heavy branch towards Bloom. A sigh escaped his lips. This boy... seriously, he was starting to not like him. It was one thing if such actions were allowed but quite another if they weren't in the first place. Plus, doing so now was really pathetic. It was as if he knew he had no chance to win and was forsaking pride and honor to lower himself to trying to take out someone with him.

"Don't..." Kim said, in case Sophia was going to remark on Hugh's actions. "I don't know him..." He added, not wanting to talk about the other boy who shared the same House as him. And then more spells were cast by other members of the Gryffindor team. One of which had been an illegal spell that was seen by Starlee. Kim felt like face-palming and shook his head. "...this is why I should have been in Ravenclaw." He muttered to himself a little.

He blamed both himself and the Hat for this.

The Hat for not putting him where he belonged in Ravenclaw.

And himself for hiding his Ravenclaw traits so that the Hat would put him in one of the two Houses that his parents had belonged to. It really had only been 1/2 the Hat's fault.

But part of Kim was still bitter about this. Hadn't his parents told him that the Hat could see deep into your soul and know the truth? They had been wrong but he couldn't really talk about this to anyone. Regardless, Kim was part of Gryffindor and that wouldn't change. He just needed to make the best of it. Complaining about it to anyone would only serve to create more potential trouble. Which was why he had kept his mouth shut all this time until now.

When Ravenclaw won, Kim wasn't surprised.

In fact, if Gryffindor had won he would have been annoyed, even though it was his House.

He got up without a word and nodded to Regina and Faye who were still there. "It was nice to see you two at the race." Kim told them. And no, he wasn't just being polite. He actually meant his words. The tall boy glanced back over at Sophia and nodded to her too. Kim didn't really want to talk to Sophia right now. He didn't want to hear anything about Ravenclaw. It would only serve to remind him that he'd been unable to get into the House.

Which would be rather painful.

Right now his feelings were rather conflicted. He suspected Sophia would understand.

If he told her. But Kim didn't want to tell her and without telling her, Sophia would most likely try and tease him about how Ravenclaw had won. And mention how Gryffindors were all people who liked to cheat to try and win. Even though it was true, based off that race alone, Kim didn't want to hear it right now. "If you will excuse me..." Kim told Regina and then headed off. He kind of wanted to be alone for awhile with his thoughts on their loss.

Spring Races Gryffindor V Ravenclaw Spectator Thread April 2022
"Don't...I don't know him..." Kim said to Sophia, interrupting her train of thought. To be honest, she'd hardly batted an eye at the continued cheating of Gryffindor. Truthfully, Ravenclaw wasn't much better, having cheated as well. Not as much, sure, but they did cheat. Still, Kim seemed just as bothered by the cheating as she was.

"I didn't say anything,"she returned with a fond smile.

"...this is why I should have been in Ravenclaw." Kim muttered quietly. The mere fantasy of such a world in which Kim shared a house with her made her giddy. The thoughts of seeing him in the Common Room every morning. Of seeing him every night before trudging off to the dorms.

...of possibly enjoying cold winter nights together near the fire, watching the snow fall just outside the tower. Sophia blushed at the thought, but now wasn't the time. Instead, she continued their banter.

"I didn't say anything..." she repeated with a giggle, leaning closer to Kim and resting her head on his strong shoulder.

She let herself relax into Kim as she watched Lin finish the race in first, securing a victory for her house. She was so, so proud to be an eagle, but she wasn't going to rub it into Kim's face. Especially after his comment about wishing he was in Ravenclaw. She wasn't that mean. She was about to offer him a word of encouragement. About how Gryffindor had some wonderful racers on board, and how they'd had her on the edge of her seat. Or even simply about how dashing the color red was, but that felt slightly like a brag because of her hair color.

However, before she could say anything, Kim stood, letting her drop to the bleacher from her position leaning on him.

Sophia frowned as her friend said goodbye to the other girls that were interacting with them, but only shortly. He didn't say much, and he didn't even look at Sophia as he left. To be honest, it kind of hurt her feelings, but she couldn't let it show. She didn't want the boy to feel bad or anything. Instead she just offered a small wave as his figure retreated from the race.

"I, uh, I should go too,", she offered awkwardly to the girls that were sitting with them. She stood from the bleachers and waited a quick moment before walking in the direction Kim had gone. She didn't want to give the impression she was following him after all.

She couldn't get his reaction out of her head. Had she gone too far in her bragging about her house? She didn't mean to upset her friend. She was pretty good at that, though, unfortunately.

After walking a few dozen feet, she realized that it was still raining. It was obvious, and the rain was still pretty heavy, so she should have noticed immediately, but distractions were distractions for a reason. With a sigh, she decided to attempt the Umbrella Charm. To her surprise, it worked this time. On the one hand, she was glad to be almost out of the rain, but on the other hand, the dryness afforded by the charm didn't much match her feelings as she trudged sadly to the castle.
