Missing Notes!

I walked into the great hall, clutching my bag that was stuffed full of books. It was Saturday, and time for lunch. I wanted to study, especially for History of Magic, because I thought it was a very hard subject. I sat down at the long Hufflepuff table. There were a few people there, but not many at the Hufflepuff table. It was a hogsmeade weekend so most of the older students were probably at hogsmeade. I pulled my scroll of parchment, ink, quill, and books. I opened up to the bookmarked page, and took notes on what I read. when I looked up the table was covered in delicous looking food. I stacked my work up in to a pile, and grabbed the golden plate. I grabbed some of the delcious looking ham, mashed potatos, and vegtables. I ate, and continued reading my book. I drank pumpkin juice from the gold looking goblet. I grabbed some of the cake, and ate the delicous chocolaty goodness. I relized I should have been writing some notes on that chapter. I reached over for my parchment, but felt my bag. I looked over, and I didn’t see my roll of yellowing parchement. I felt my heart beat faster. I looked under the table. Nothing. On the table. Nothing. It’s ok, someone probably picked them up. I’ll ask around, and someone will probbably give them to me. But there are thousands of students in this school! I’ll never find them. I took a deep breath and thought again. Ok. I was writing on them about ten minuates ago. So they were probably taken less than ten minuates ago. They might even be waiting for me in History of Magic! I went over to ask some first and second year Ravenclaws. None of them had seen it. I asked some first and second year Griffindors. None of them had seen my notes. I told them if they did, just send me an owl. I walked very hesitantly over to the first and second year Slytherins. I asked a few if they had seen my notes. Everyone had said no, but a few Slytherin girls had offered to help me look for them, and I just had told them that my name was on it, and if they found it, send me an owl.

Missing Notes!

Nia was incredibly hungry, and possibly late for lunch. She had spent the whole morning redecorating her dorm room, and when she looked at the time she all but bolted to the Great Hall. Somehow the morning had come and gone, and she hadn't even realised.
The Great Hall wasn't as busy as it usually was, and there was a distinct lack of older students. Hogsmeade, she figured, trying not to be too jealous. She knew she'd be allowed to go in a few years anyway, but it didn't make the wait any easier. She knew some students in her year had somehow managed to go, but she didn't know how they'd done it without being caught, so she wasn't about to take the chance without being completely sure.
The delicious smell that floated around the room made Nia realise that she was, in fact, a bit late for lunch. The tables were already filled to the brim with foods that looked so good that she could hear her stomach rumble in protest. She neared the Hufflepuff table, that was almost empty, and was about to take a seat when she realised there was something on the floor.
She bent down to take a closer look and noticed it was a piece of parchment, filled with plenty of notes written in black ink. She read a few lines, trying to figure out exactly what it was, and recognized one of the subjects they were studying in History of Magic.
They were good notes, she thought. Someone must have dropped them accidentally, or maybe forgot them there, and they were probably looking for them.
She scanned the page, searching for some sort of signature or name that would help her identify the owner, and finally saw, in neat writing at the foot of the page the name:
Cara Smalley. 1st year, Hufflepuff.
Cara Smalley. She recognized the name, and knew it belonged to a brunette girl with glasses that she'd seen around the Hufflepuff Common Room a couple of times. She looked around the room for her, only to find her running about with a worried look in her face, asking people from different houses something Nia couldn't hear. She was probably looking for her notes.
Nia walked up to her with a smile, and tapped her on the shoulder.
"Are you perhaps looking for these?" she asked, showing the girl the notes when she turned to face her.

As I was hurrying around looking for my notes I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. I wiped my head around and saw a girl with dark brown hair, and brown eyes.
I stared at the notes, and saw that they were mine. I looked at the girl, and back at the notes. I was trying to remember her name, but my mind was drawing a blank.
“Yes! Thank you so so so much!” She handed me the notes and I looked down at my shoes.
I have never been good at making new friends. When I was younger, about nine or ten years old, my parents took me out to the Leaky Caldron and dragon alley, they always told me to ‘explore’ and ‘make new friends’ but I almost always spent my time in the book store, quidditch store, or sitting at a table reading. I tried though. Every time I have tried to make friends, I have always made a big fool of myself, or the friend I was trying to make only hung out with me because I bought them ice cream. The only friend I have ever made is Athena, but she only counts a little bit because our parents made us play together and then we became friends.
I knew this was my chance, so I looked up at her and put my best smile.
“what’s your name again?”

"Don't sweat it, darling!", said Nia with a smile and a shrug, handing over Cara's notes as the girl stared at her own shoes in a somewhat shy gesture that made her brown hair curtain over her face.
"I'm Nia. Greenwood." she offered her name, accompanied with a stretched hand. Back in Spain, it was customary for women to greet people with a kiss on each cheek, and Nia still found it unnatural to do it any other way, but she'd almost gotten used to shaking hands at Hogwarts, with so many new faces and names.
Now, Nia was a pretty extroverted person, and she had never had any trouble making friends. That is, until she came to Hogwarts, of course. She had been feeling like a fish out of water for the whole year, not understanding the references that kids raised in the Magical World took for granted and being generally really late to every event that would have allowed her to meet people. End result being, she'd had more trouble than usual making friends.
In fact, did she have any friends? She'd met a lot of nice people, that was for sure, but she hadn't been able to get close to anyone yet, not really.
So although she could've said goodbye right there and then, she thought it probably couldn't hurt to strike a conversation with someone her age and house, and see if maybe they clicked.
"You're Cara, right? I've seen you around the Common Room a couple of times, usually with Athena. You guys are friends?"
She'd met Athena at an Astronomy class not too long ago, and the blonde girl had been nothing if not nice. She wondered where she was right now, as she usually saw the two girls together, but she didn't ask, watching instead as Cara took her notes from her with a smile.

Nia Greenwood. I suddenly remembered her. Nia was a nice girl who spent lots of her time alone. It appeared that Nia didn’t have that many friends, at least when I saw her she spent most of her time alone. Nia was smart, and a good student.
I thought about it some more. Making a new friend wasn’t replacing an old friend. There was no way Nia would ever replace Athena, but if she tried… Athena would be mad and blame it on her. One more friend wouldn’t hurt. Athena was out hanging out with her new friends anyway so why not hang out with Nia?
“Do you want to do something together sometime? Like… I don’t know, study, or maybe hang out? Athena is out with her friends soooo I’m available now.”
