Nia had spent the last hour or so trying to study, but nothing of what she read seemed to make any sense. She had been trying to decipher her Potions textbook to catch up with the rest of her classmates, especially those with a magical upbringing who already seemed to know everything there was to know about Billywig Sting Slime, whatever that was.

However, she appeared to be nowhere near the answers she was looking for. She had always been a quick learner and had never had trouble following classes before, but the sheer amount of new vocabulary was enough to give her a headache. She felt like she needed a Wizard-Muggle dictionary with her at all times to figure out the most basic stuff.

She finally gave up and closed her textbook with an exhale and a resounding thud that echoed around the library, but nobody seemed to notice she was even there. There were a couple of groups scattered around the tables, some of them studying and some of them just wasting time and whispering to each other, trying not to laugh too loudly. She sighed, feeling a sudden pang of jealousy towards all of them. Making friends was another thing that she had never had a problem doing before, but that was proving itself to be virtually impossible here.

Nia stretched on her seat, enjoying the satisfaction of feeling her muscles come back to life after so much time sitting in one position. She whispered a soft “okay” under her breath, trying to reassure herself that the situation was, in fact, okay, and got up.

However, whatever plans she might have had of leaving silently were cut short by the obnoxiously loud screeching sound her chair made when she dragged it against the floor. She winced, and noticed that this time, a couple of people did turn around to look at her. Feeling her ears turn red from embarrassment, she muttered a “sorry” and made a run for it.

Or, at least, that was the plan.

The leg that came out of nowhere and made her fall forward, books scattering around her and hands hitting the stone floors painfully, was not part of the plan.
It took her a second to process what had just happened, but when she heard a nasty laugh coming from behind her she couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

Of course she’d find herself some bullies before she found any friends. That was just her luck, wasn’t it.

She turned around, still on the floor, and sat there as dignified as it was possible to do after one had just been tripped in front of everybody in the library. She looked straight into the eyes of the student that had caused her to fall down, who was still snickering like it was the funniest thing that had happened all day, and said with crossed arms:

“Well, that was just rude!”

Today was definitely not her day.

Henry spent most of his days in the library, hand running across the spines of leather-bound books. Eyes twinkling for one to read. Usually, he didn't have much free time on his hands with dueling practices, clubs, and being with friends but that day is an expectation... giving him the moment he needed to spend a couple hours in the library for book reading, still determined to read every book in the room.. with 4 and half years half it was manageable he believed.

The teen stepped out from the aisle, Loki following close behind his onwer- parther with his head held high and ears twitching for any familiar voices as they walked. The teen slipped his wands into his jean pockets, gaze set on the rows of books he passed wondering which to go down... which section to start reading... which books he should borrow to read in his dorm on nights where sleep couldn't seem to take him.

Walking along the endless room of the library, the teen found his eyes catch the scene of a student tripping a girl seemingly on purpose he wagered since the student had their foot stuck out and now snickered away. While, Henry is mischievous that didn't mean he was mean and he felt bad watching the girl on the ground with all her books spewed out.

A soft whistle, letting Loki know to follow him, the teen walked toward the girl. Standing besides her, he stuck out hid hand with a soft smile noticing that she is younger than him. Perhaps a first year? A soft smile and outstretched hand as he spoke"want some help?" His British accent strong as he brushed back a few strands of fallen hair, Loki sitting besides him with amber eyes on the girl.

As the bully started walking away like nothing had happened, Nia examined her scraped hands. The stone floor was cold, but it wasn't rough, so the wound wasn't too bad. It was still very annoying, though. "Git", she thought, her eyes filled with daggers as they followed the student now making their exit.

"Want some help?"

A kind, almost whispered voice asked, taking Nia's attention away from the plans for revenge she had already began scheming inside her head. She turned her head towards the source of the voice, and saw it belonged to a tall, dark haired boy that seemed to be a little older than herself. He was outstretching his hand towards her in a helpful gesture, a slight smile on his lips making his eyes look gentle, and he was accompanied by a gorgeous orange cat with amber eyes that seemed to be looking at her with curiosity, as if asking what she was doing still sitting in the middle of the floor.

"That would be brilliant, thank you", answered Nia with a returning, grateful smile, as she took his hand and pulled herself out of the cold library floors. She almost winced at the feeling of the scraped skin in her hands being disturbed, but she managed to get on her feet without showing any signs of discomfort. There was no need to make a scene, the fall had already been dramatic enough.

She straightened her skirt and robes, and said with a sigh "some people are just very bored, and very boring. How utterly unoriginal." She said, shaking her head as she thought about the bully. Was it really that funny to watch someone fall down because you tripped them? It was just plain stupid, in her opinion. "Anyway, thank you again. I'm Nia. Hufflepuff, First year."

She offered her scraped hand in greeting with a smile on her face. It appeared there actually were some nice people around there!

The scraping of library chairs illuminated the room with the ominous chatter of children. Rin felt as if she were looking through the world by a foggy window of peril and misfortune. The fate of each students seemed to lie within their own hands... within a library. The book she was reading, fell flat, its pages hidden without a bookmark. In fact, Rin didn't need the book at all. The manglement and misfortune of students was easily enough to learn off of. Rin's perfect intellect made it easy to study the social commitment located within students.

Appearing from afar was the corruption Rin designed for herself. Rin grasped her brown bag and walked closer to the bookcase the two took custody in while smiling at the two. She began dusting off each book as if it was high quality property. Her soft hands seem to avoid the touch of the soft dust as if the dust were scared to come near her ethereal glow. Her manipulative smile curved to the side of her clear, smooth almost unnatural face. Rin's slow walk across the aisle of books seemed enchanted. Closer, closer, closer she came to her destination one step at a time. Eyes followed her move as she greeted the fellow first years. Rin smile at the two holding hands, "I'm Rin."

"I'm Rin."

Nia jumped and contained a yelp, putting the hand she had extended towards the boy in greeting to her chest.

"Dear lord, don't do that! You startled me!" she chided, sounding astonishingly similar to her mother whenever her sister pranked her.

It wasn't her fault, though.

A small, asian girl with straight dark hair and bangs had suddenly appeared next to them, seemingly out of nowhere. Nia hadn't heard her come near at all – one second she was alone with the boy, who hadn't even had time to introduce himself yet, and the next one Rin was just there, smiling a smile that Nia didn't know how to feel about.

Something about this girl just felt... strange. She couldn't quite put her finger on what it was – she seemed perfectly sweet – but something about the way she carried herself gave her the creeps. Like there was some sort of ominous air around her.

"Don't be silly, Nia, she's just another student", she reprimanded herself in her head. The girl was probably just a little awkward, like herself, not some sort of omen. She was just trying to be friendly, and Nia needed friends!

"Hello, Rin." She said with a tentative smile after taking a breath. "I'm Nia. Sorry, I didn't mean to react like that. You're just very... stealthy"

Nia looked towards the older boy from the corner of her eye to try and watch his reaction. She couldn't help but wonder – had he picked up on the eerie vibe too, or had it all been in her head?

The Hufflepuff's reaction was immediate. Her body shook as though she was having a panic attack. Her chest pounded up and down, however she comforted it with a sweet hand.

"Dear lord, don't do that! You startled me!" She said, her words flooding through the library like an open wound. "Hello Rin." The Hufflepuff chided, taking many breaths. "I'm Nia." Rin smiled once again. "Sorry to react like that. Your just very stealthy." The Nia continued breathing heavily. "I don't think so.." Rin replied in a soft tone whist toying with the books again. Suddenly, a rough edge pricked Rin's soft finger. Rin examined her hand whilst rolling her black sleeve. She looked back at the slightly mouldy brown book and picked it up. It was extremely heavy, and almost hard to carry. The title read: "Greatest Wizarding Names in Europe". "It's a shame, really." Rin said in a sombre-like song. "My family live in Thailand; you see." She placed the mouldy book back on the shelves whilst dusting her hands. Her manipulative smile etched to the side once more, making her more than intimidating; menacing. "It's cute that you two met in a library." She said, managing not to sound rude at all. "Well, goodbye then."

"It's not a problem," Henry replied to the girl as he grasped her hand in his then pulled her to her feet. A eye on the books spewed out on the ground. The teen hadn't selected any reading of his own yet as he spoke"want some help picking your books up?" A offer to consider for the girl but the teen heard her other words on the past situation. Henry softly smiled, the rest of his emotions hidden behind the 'barrier' as he pushed back a few strands of hair and spoke"well, every place will have people like that but sometimes the best one could do is simply ignore and focus on the positives." A twinkle of mischief in his eyes that soon faded as he reached into his inner jacket pocket and pulled out an classic hogsmeade chocolate bar. Handing it to the girl.

"Here, it will help you feel better."

Henry wasn't an sweet person himself,
he often found chocolate or items that are overly sweet to give him an headache occasionally. Nia. Hufflepuff. First Year. The teen offefed an nod paired with hia soft smile as he spoke" an pleasure, Nia. I'm Henry Knight, third year slytherin." A pause for a moment before continuing"my best friend is an prefect for hufflepuff, I could introduce you to her if you'd like? She could probably help with avoiding or reporting those who are mean to you," the teen partly mentioned that to brag. Always willing to talk about his friends accomplishments and praises, especially Logan's. She was his best friend and basically an sister to him.

Kneeling down, the teen started to pile up Nia's books in an neat pile. Loki pawed at his knee, offering an single meow which reminded the teen as he looked up and spoke"oh right, this is Loki." Introducing his feline as he picked up the pile of books then stood on his feet, handing the pile to Nia when an voice arose.

Rin. The teen positioned himself to look at first, at his age and height the third year easily towered over them both. Loki by his heels, head held high and amber eyes examining the two girls.

Nia seemed to get surprise by the act of Rin showing up, Henry eyed her as he asked"are you alright?" The teen then pointed to the chocolate he gave to Nia moments before and continued"eat, you'll feel better." A look at them both. Nia introduced herself then Rin spoke on books and where he family is from before saying it is cute they met in an library? Henry noted the girl's resdy departure but in the three years of his studies there as seen people like Rin, wanting to seem important or the center of attention. Henry couldn't hold back a small laugh toward the girl as he spoke"I wouldn't say we met, I jusr helped her up but you had no other reason for being here other than meeting Nia."

The teen took an step forward, eyeing Rin as he slowly spoke"some advice, if you want to talk to others than talk to them but don't make yourself appear larger or more powerful when your not." The teen guessed gryffindor for the girl, she seemed to have the attitude of one but also slytherin could be an option.

Nia had faintly heard the boy volunteer to help her with her scattered books right before Rin had come in, but the suggestion that stood out to her the most was the one where he offered her chocolate. He’d said it would make her feel better, and it might have been her sweet tooth talking, but she couldn’t help but agree. She loved all things sweet, and she smiled broadly as he introduced himself.

“Why, yes! Thank you, Henry Knight, third year Slytherin.” said Nia in good humour, taking the bar from his extended hand and peeling it out of its plastic wrap to take a bite. It was delicious, and it immediately cheered her up. She enjoyed the feeling of the chocolate melting in her mouth while listening, impressed, to Henry's description of his best friend.

“Really? Friends in high places, huh?” She joked, after having swallowed the piece of chocolate. “Anyway, thank you very much for the offer, but I think there should be no need to report them unless something big actually happened. They aren’t worth the effort”, she shrugged. As Henry himself had said, every place had people like that, and Nia wasn’t in the business of wasting her time on idiots. “I’d love to meet her, though! I don’t know many people from my house yet.”

And then Rin had entered the conversation right as Henry picked up her books and gave them to her. He too seemed to pick up on the strange vibe of the girl, but unlike Nia, he didn’t hesitate to call her out on it.

He was right on doing so, of course, and Nia was secretly glad he had. She knew she lacked spine sometimes, and she could have a hard time setting her boundaries unless she had a very obvious reason to do so, so hearing Henry’s tense voice telling her off on her attitude was not only refreshing, but also something she was really grateful for. She watched as Rin said goodbye and started walking away, her ominous vibe following her to wherever she was going next.

She spent a couple of awkward seconds in silence, processing the interaction, before shaking the uncomfortable feeling off.

“A fitting last name you have there, don’t you?” She teased Henry with a well-intentioned smirk, alluding to the way he’d come to her rescue like a knight in shining armour. She then left her books on top of a nearby table and proceeded to kneel down next to the orange cat, who was still looking at her expectantly.

“Well, good afternoon, Loki, you are looking very handsome indeed. Excuse my manners, I wish I could have introduced myself sooner. I’m Nia.” she greeted the orange cat, offering the back of her hand for him to sniff and inspect. Nia adored cats and did tend to talk to them as if they were full grown humans, but she knew better than to start petting one without getting its permission first. Cats 1.0.1: if a cat was indifferent to you, it most likely would ignore your hand. If it liked you, though, it would headbutt it without you needing to do anything, And if it didn’t? You could say goodbye to your hand if you got it too close to their head.

She wondered how Loki would react as she looked up at Henry with a smile. “He’s gorgeous… Loki, as in the Norse mythology god, right? It’s a good name.”

Henry smiled toward the hufflepuff, the girl seem to hold tje same type of innocence that Avery held. He smiled softly. Hoping the girl holds on to that, the innocence and light within her heart.

"Wouldn't say that, we were best friends before she became prefect," Henry replied softly, he didn't enjoy speaking of himself. He wouldn't describe himself as someone with friends in high places. However, he would take any opportunity to speak of his friends and those close to him. He often enjoyed discussing their achievements and earnings.

The teen nodded toward the girl, Nia when she spoke of meeting Logan. He thought she wouldn't mind, knowing Logan is one that is loyal and intelligent with a knack for potions. One who is amazing and someone you can always count on. He truly felt blessed to have a best friend like her. Offering the girl a soft smile as he spoke"I'll love to introduce you then, Nia. She's incredibly kind and helpful, the greatest friend in my opinion." Henry nodded toward Nia, about to suggest yhat the two find a seat when the pther student joined them.

The teen didn't think he did anything. He simply told the other girl the truth. He spent three years at the school, seen those simlair to thay girl come and go. He offered Nia a small nod, he wasn't aure what to think of his surname. Of the name tied with his mother and her family.

Introducing Loki, Henry smiled at Nia's reaction. Loki, however, sat up with his head held high and ears perked up. Amber eyes examining Nia carefully before giving his meow of approval, tapping the girl softly with his paw which would cause Henry to smile as he spoke"that means he likes yoi and you can per him if you want," the teen the caught her question on the name and felt himself smile softly. Nia is one of the first to ask if the name is agter the norse god instead of the comic book character, nodding the teen spoke"yeah it is actually, do you want to find a seat and talk some more?"
