The team had been practicing....a lot. Known for their sly moves and plays, Gryffindor was not a team to be blase about. However there would be one major difference from the last time they faced off against the Lions. They had replaced one of their captains. Would this new captain hold their own to the intellect of Rafa or would the loss of their cunning former captain be the downfall of the team?

Prayers having been silently sent to the gods, Tyranni set out from the locker rooms to the field with the rest of the team. As Dan and her exited, a muffled bang green smoke would fill the open area just outside the exit from the locker rooms. She trudged forward, stifling a small cough as the scent of dead fish wafted past her nose. What the hell was in this smoke? she annoyingly pondered to herself. Emerging from the smoke, her already green uniform was covered in yet more green, distinguished slightly from the color of the cloth by its murkier appearance. "This better come out of clothing easily," she mumbled to no one in particular.

“For the love of bloody Merlin”
Akari grumbled after a cough that sounded closer to a hack rattled her body. She grimaced slightly as she reacted to the spicy air that she had just been engulfed in and had unfortunately gotten a rather good whiff of. Though the horrid cloud of spice had already started to disperse by the time she had passed through it, it was still not very pleasant, to say the least.

Certainly not the most uplifting way to start a match, but oh well, now was not the time to get distracted. She had to get her head in the game. After coming off of a loss that broke their long win streak, the pressure was on. Akari wanted nothing more than to see the team come back at full force. Surely they all did.

Though truth be told, Akari was a little more nervous than usual. What with all the recent changes to the team, this was the first real game they would get to put their new dynamics to the test.
And not to mention the thought of those terrifyingly strong Slytherin beaters who would no doubt be out for blood. She hoped dearly that all of team Gryffindor would survive to see the end of the match, but that may take some sort of miracle.
The pressure was also building up more and more by the minute as the start of the game inched closer, so it was all a bit nerve-racking.

With a deep breath in, Akari thought about the pre-game pep talk from their captain, and made sure to remind herself that as soon she would take her position up in the sky, all her current nerves would dissipate and how she would only feel the determination she has for Gryffindor to come out triumphant at the end of this. Plus, if anything happened to her, she had her trusty second string, who she was confident would avenge her should she fall victim to an attack of Slytherin.

So, with a final quick glance and then grin to the rest of the players who made their way to the bench, thankful that they were on stand-by, Akari took her place, excitement slowly trickling back in as she waited for the match to officially begin.

The start of this match seemed to be promising. The sun was shining and the thought of being able to fly in good weather seemed far too good to be true. Most of their games had been in nothing more than cold, gloomy, and rainy weather. A change in scenery was well welcomed even if it meant that the other team would be playing their best. The boy frowned as a strong smell reached his noise, and he could not help but make a foul face. "What is that?" he mumbled mostly to himself. As he passed through the smoke he would realize the smell was continuing with him. Glancing down in horror he would see the culprit upon his clothing. The boy felt an ire boil low in his stomach as he glowered at the crowd. Wondering who exactly decided to take out their clear jealousy over not being in the best house. Percival would sit down on the bench with a huff. Staring up at the beautiful sunny sky as he stunk of fish.

Chasers

... and without any further ado the chasers were right into the thick of things, becoming a blurry mixture of green and red uniforms while attempting to pull their team into the lead by force. Simon would place her hand on the quaffle with unerring accuracy, as would Haley. "OOooooh, is that a budding romance sprouting on team Gryffindor? We can still see you!" Plott would tease Simon as Haley wrenched the quaffle from her own team mate.

"MY MY MY," Plott's voice would echo again. Simon would yet again lock hand in hand with another player over a quaffle. "This one just can't keep her hands to herself.” He would look at a roster, see her name was Simon and still mispronounce it. "Samuel, you’ve only just gotten started. Why not give the other girls a chance to warm up?" Maggie would then wrest control of the ball from her opponent.

Regardless of the teasing, or perhaps in spite of it, Simon would end up in possession of yet another quaffle. This one is her own, contest and attachment free. "Well done Lions, though I should hope Hogwarts students can fly better than they arm wrestle. That's twenty points to Gryffindor, and ten to Slytherin, but what's this....?"

Beaters

As if on cue the bludgers would be sent screaming across the pitch, each represented almost as deadly an obstacle as the shadows the school had once been plagued by. Marshal would be first to act, but his aim just wasn't good enough and Plott was about to let him know about it. "Awww, tough break widdle kitten.” Then he would catch a false break. “Let's give the fellah a round of applause for effort." Nobody joined in the clapping but Plott. Another bludger would interrupt the lackluster applause, this one sent screaming by the fearless warrior Griseldis. It would collide as intended, rocking Erin upside the head.

“Oooo,” he would interject with a wince “At least she’s got a thick skull folks!” Plott would continue, happily making jokes and sparing no single player their expense.

Whether out for vengeance or seizing the opportunity to strike, Cassandra’s backbeat would not miss the evasive Griseldis no matter how hard she tried to get away and Erin’s own bludger of doom would collide shortly after giving Gris the ole one-two-punch. Unfortunately for Lisa, who was no doubt minding her own duties as a chaser, she would catch the brunt of not one but BOTH of the ricochets. “Seems house Slytherin is willing to take as much as they dish out. Here’s an idea folks, keep an eye out for friendly fire!” He would then duck behind the banister railing in front of him, dramatically attempting to avoid any “stray” bludgers.

As he did so, Ivy would send herself flying at Koko. Quickly approaching terminal velocity, Ivy would realize too late that she had lost the ability to change her angle as Koko just narrowly avoided her blatch. “HEY!” Plott would shot, likely injuring the ears of many in the audience. “I saw that. No cheating! Take a lap!” He would then mumble under his breath, as though he had forgotten the charm enhancing his voice. “House of the fair and honorable, what shenanigans is this even?”

Evelynn’s keen eye would no doubt put her team at an aggressive advantage, spotting the snitch flitting about as it attempted to give those flying the slip. Dan, perhaps too busy witnessing the horrific dreadfulness caused by ricochet or otherwise distracted, would have no such luck in finding the snitch.

Once Flash's spell finished, he'd be the only good-smelling Quidditch player left, though that was not an unusual distinction. He would eye the bench, seeing Avery, Draven, and Percival sitting in a row, with which side Flash sat on being no contest.

Taking his place next to the young and enthusiastic Avery, Flash would hear the tail-end of his jabber to Draven. Flash himself could remember the one time he fell off the broom as well, that same Ravenclaw match eariler this year. It was truly brutal, and he wondered how the eagles fared in the match earlier that day. It would normally not be difficult to check, but he had been spending all his effort and energy in being prepared for this game.

"It's not a game for the faint of heart." Flash would add, not really adding anything but the sense that one should accept what they signed up for. "If you are scared of getting hit, then you can't focus on what you need to do."

As unentertaining as usual, Flash's adult-sounding words would reek of entitlement, but his eyes would be glued on the action on the pitch. So far, their offense seemed to be hitting harder and more accurate, a big relief to see that Koko once again narrowly dodged a blatch. However, it seemed the force that Erin and Cash shot their bludgers with created a ricochet effect, which blasted their own brand new Chaser off their broom. Luckily the co-captain was there to catch her, but that could not have been a good first impression. Hopefully their Beaters would figure out how to aim these sonic balls.

"Well... that's not supposed to happen." Flash would say nervously, wondering if they weren't about to become a snake eating its own tail.

"We'll be fine," Draven said numbly.

His fingers had turned white around the handle of his moontrimmer, and he was staring at the match with wide eyes. Rory had dragged them along to quidditch games when he and Iris had been younger. But standing on the bleachers was a far different from being on the field, with players zooming all around him in a mismash of green and red.

"You're a good player Mr. Chen," the boy smiled, giving the other a grateful look. Despite the less than comforting words, the knot in Dray's chest had loosened a tad. He wasn't the first player to be sweating bullets before a quidditch match, and he certainly wouldn't be the last.

"I bet the nurse was real happy to see you," he laughed, leaning back on the bench. He shot flash a look, momentarily taking his eyes off the players flying far above their heads, just long enough to nod in greeting. His words rang true. Draven had become a frequent visitor to the hospital wing in the past couple months, and would continue to be one for as long as he had a broom in his hand. It was just a fact of life, one he'd made peace with.

"From what I've seen, people on this team are tough as nails." Draven mused, the tail end of his sentence shooting up as Lisa was hurled backwards.

He found another piece of confetti in his mouth, so he spat that out. Somehow, there was still a strong smell of fish reeking in the air, even after Flash cleaned himself with a spell. His eyes turned sideways to glare at the culprit (@Percival Rainwood) sitting on the other end of the bench, but the small boy said nothing. He was fed up with the reeking boy who did nothing but launch smelly dungbombs into other peoples' dorm rooms and stink of fish himself. He felt a tad sorry for Draven, who was sitting next to the monster of stench. Was every foul-smelling stool in the boys' lavatory actually courtesy of Rainwood's own stench-intestines?

"Yeah, we'll be more than fine!" Avery echoed, holding up a fist in determination. If anything, Avery was optimistic. They had a few killer brooms this match, and everyone had worked hard during practice.

At his teammate's praise, Avery smiled back. "Thank you! I try my best," he responded, never one to downplay his efforts for the benefit of appearing talented. "You know, I'm sure you'll do great. I've seen you duel, too, so trust me when I say I know what I'm talking about," Avery added. Indeed, Draven had been a helpful teammate during Wargames as well, landing powerful spells and evading them in shows of athleticism. "Just show us a bit of that on the pitch and you'll be fine!"

"Yeah, I think I was a good challenge to fix up for the nurse that day," he mused. "Not that I remembered anything about Nurse Brumby," he said, since he had mostly been unconscious, anyhow. But, if anything, Avery was glad to keep things interesting for people. "You go there much?" he asked absent-mindedly, wondering why Draven would bring up the nurse.

"Oof," he winced as two bludgers went straight for Lisa Alistair. "I hope she doesn't find that discouraging," he said, considering it was her very first match, and those whacks were caused by her very own teammates, no less.

Really, the game wasn't for the faint of heart, as Flash said. "Keep it together, guys!" he hollered at the skies.

XXXCatching a whiff of herself, Maggie winced. Whatever they'd used for the green coloring of the confetti smelled absolutely rancid, and had showered Maggie all over with an unpleasant stink and ridiculously brutal smell. Didn't smell like it was liable to wash out, either. Damn.

That needed to be forgotten, though, because the game had begun.

Boom! Sunk a goal! Ten points to Slytherin, just like that! Maggie pumped her fist in the air at the triumph, smile wide and bright. It paid to be so cool, didn't it? In points. It paid in points to be such a talented player. Not that Maggie was full of herself, no, absolutely not, why would you even think that?

Erin was a damned menace, apparently for both teams... She would strike the bludger with all of her substantial might and send it hurdling towards the opposition and the iron ball would hit the Prefect hard. The sound of metal on bone was distinct. She knew the sound well enough and Griseldis would loose her grip and fall. That was one of their strongest offensive members, Erin reminded herself as the girl plummeted towards the pitch. Quidditch was both brutal and cruel. One hopes that the opposition crashes gracelessly into the sod, a wave of disappointment would wash over her as Akari plucked Gris from the jaws of death. The bludger would recklessly crash into her own teammate, not that she knew dear Lisa as anything more than a housemate and a teammate. Had it been LeStrange, this would have been a 'happy error' but in this case it was unfortunate. She would be rocked off her broom and sent to hell had it not been for their Team Captain on save.

She gritted her teeth as she saw the opposition fly off as well as the near loss of her own teammate. Hopefully they would remember to target her rebound next time, a strange thought blasted through the fourth wall like a bludger through bone
