Sarah Lightwood vs Fire
Reducio
Sarah is on Fire.
Effects:
– Sarah was burning and received 60 damage.
The first thing Meenauh noticed was how close the lightning stroke near Aida. The pale wizard was in the middle of a dodge when the lightning got just nearby. The dodge, though, was quite successful as Astrea's Knockback Jinx could really hurt if aimed a bit better.

Callie's offence didn't turn into huge success as the Wind Jinx went past the self-healing figure of Sarah, who was trying to patch herself up with a Healing Spell. While still being on fire. Because why not.

“We can do this, Callie, just hang on!” called the white-haired mage.

Aida looked up at Scheherazade in the corner of the room. The owl appeared to be dozing off even though Aida was doing their best. Just seeing the bored owl made Aida’s mind begin to wander, as it was prone to do. What was Alexander doing now? Did it ever work out with Marion? Did Valentin’s father ever get released from prison? What mage prison did people from Russia even use? Shaking their head, Aida tried to force focus back into their sleepy eyes. They needed to do more, and faster.

’What if’ was a question that Callie found herself asking quite often. Right now that question tended to lean towards the what if her spells actually managed to land most of the time. Maybe this was the universes way of preventing Callie from becoming a tyrant. Either way it was rather…annoying. How could she enact world domination if she couldn’t even make a measly spell land? At least Aida was there to provide some words of encouragement.

Sarah was still on fire - still in pain and still trying to focus on doing well in this duel. Though the flames were making her panic and panic led to irrational decisions. Perhaps that was what lead her to quickly trying to heal herself, to stop the burns and patch up her scorched skin, despite still being aflame. Had she been thinking properly, perhaps stopping the fire before she tried to heal anything was the better course of action but her panicked mind had cast for her and perhaps it wasn't the ideal move, but she relished in the fact that her spell was cast successfully and that despite the flames still swirling dangerously around her, her skin felt cooled and considerably less charred. Still, she managed to focus her brain less on the fire and more on the strategy - the snakes could still easily win this duel and she wasn't going to be the one who stopped that from happening. She glanced to her side, catching momentary eye contact with her partner through the flames, before focussing back on the seemingly distracted Ravenclaws.

For Astrea's missed attack, she was sure that it was less her own inability to conjure and aim than it was the sheer focus the other exerted on dodging attacks from upwards and forwards. Regardless of the reasoning set out in unneeded justification, the most important thing was that she had not hit- no duelist on the offensive in this round of spellcasting had. A disappointing result, but with her partner gradually healing up- from what little Astrea could catch of her partner in the chaos, she could see a fierce amount of determination within those forest green eyes-, it only served to prolong the duel further. They were at the mercy of the sands of time, its flow ever more urgent with every wasted round.

Sarah is on Fire.

The battle started to heat up, literally. Everything went so fast, Meenauh only had to rotate her head around not to miss any illegal actions.

First, she noticed Astrea healing up the burning figure of Sarah, who was in mid jump to avoid any spell sent her way. So, imagine a girl in the air, on fire, being healed up with the Healing Spell and still being hit by a direct and powerful Flipendo from Aida. Meenauh clapped this time outloud, although she had to stay neutral. She just like a good play.

Callie wanted to let the roaring fire continue on Sarah, but it seemed the concentration started to leave her... ah, no, that was the storm cloud, still floating above the Ravenclaws. Most of the times, it did nothing in particular, but one had to always pay some attention to it. This time the attention was probably switched towards the cloud that made Callie's spell backfire — the fire emerged on Callie's clothes.

Aida's concentration went fully into hitting Sarah in her complex motion, which only proved Meenauh's balance guesses. A strong strike from the cloud, that was conjured by Aida's teammate, hit Aida hard, probably disorientating the duellist for a while.

Aida, struck by a miniature lightning bolt, flew back onto their backside. Hairs standing on end, the mage looked like a frazzled long-haired cat that had just come out of a spinning chili roaster. Trying to climb to their feet in case they needed to dodge, Aida’s mouth opened as they got an extremely strong sense of déjà vu.

“W-what? Why…?”

Confused, the mage looked at Callie, then back at the opponents. Why did this all seem so familiar?

Was Callie cursed? Probably. If you counted the amount of times her spells seemed to spectacularly backfire as a curse. All she knew was that this particular scenario sucked. Fire SUCKED. Being too hot SUCKED. It was a like being at a bonfire but with the added element of mortal danger. You know, just your usual Tuesday at Hogwarts. Thirteen year olds on fire.

Very normal and very mundane stuff.

Right?

Sarah hissed once more at the pain the flames left her in, even as they steadily started going out. Nearly over, Lightwood. She knew she was in too much pain and far too tired from said pain tot properly cast in that moment, so instead pushed her efforts into trying to dodge any incoming spells not form her own teammate. A teammate she was currently grateful for as she felt the cool rush of healing magic run over her skin. It was a short-lived relief, however, as mid-dodge and mid-spell, she felt a second spell hit her. One which had her stumbling backwards as an invisible force shoved her off balance. She glared across the piste at her opponent, a low sound coming from her mouth, something closer to a growl than anything else. Keep it together, she urged herself. They still had this. A sentiment made only more feasible as she watched the incendio clearly meant for her backfire and instead hit the Ravenclaw opposite her. She knew how it felt - how those flames lashed and whipped and burned at any skin it could get to. But the spell had been intended for her, and so the sympathy she might have felt seeing it hit someone else was lessened somewhat. Instead she took a moment to regroup and just breathe, before focussing back on what was important here. Winning.

As the flames licking up her partner's form began to die away with the next round of spells, Astrea once more turned her attention towards prolonging the duel, her healing spell temporarily mitigating the damage of fire and flipendo alike. As one pillar of green fire went out, another sprung up as one of their opponent's casts backfired, adding to the salt sting of unpredictable luck. Much to her great surprise and internal thankfulness in blowing the Ravenclaw's pesky raincloud over, the rumble of thunder was the only warning the dueling piste had before a crack of lightning struck down the white-haired wix they called a temporary enemy. Ah, the virtues of caution! She only hoped that this strategic outmaneuvering would last.
