The air was warm, not warm enough where you couldn't sport a light jacket but nice enough that being outside for a while wouldn't chill you to the bones. Today was one of those days. A light breeze with the sun shining down. An anxious hoot had called overhead in the Great Hall this morning. Eiryk, her owl had no letter or gift for her but instead she sent him out to stretch his wings and visit with other owls. He had been rather restless recently so she promised to take him outside more often.

Currently Annie sat with him on her knees. The sharp prick of his claws sunk into her black tights that she wore along with a knee-length black skirt and a formal white collared shirt, tie loosely around her neck. It was a more casual than her robe but still formal enough since she was on school grounds. She didn't have a class right after breakfast so here she was. The brunette was brought back to reality when Eriyk shifted on her knee, she could tell he was trying to be gentle but she still tensed at the movement, not wanting her tights or skin to be ripped up.

Leaning her head back, she'd rest one of her hands on Eiryk, stroking his feathers as he snuggled his head down into the rest of his body, turning into a giant oval-shaped ball. Her mind stayed blank for a moment, but the peace wasn't kept quiet for long. The sound of guitars and drums filled her head as she envisioned the beginning of a song. Her fingers tapped the stone floor beneath her, humming flowing from her lips and then lyrics escaped her quietly.

--And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later, it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight--

Small hoots shook her out of the moment just for the instrumental part to hit. A small smile formed on her lips. Why sing a sad song when she was happy? It seemed Eiryk enjoyed the song though as small twitters and joyous noises escaped him. She'd scratch him behind his head where he tilted to give her more access. A small chuckle escaped her before the instrumental finished, getting ready for the chorus.

--And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am--

The sun warmed her skin as the notes flowed out from her mouth, hair getting tugged lightly by the breeze. Her eyes fluttered shut, just enjoying the moment.

Sitting nearby whilst studying, Aria could not help but overhear Annie's song. A small smile forming. The lyrics may have been sad, and yet there was a certain level of happiness in her voice. The little owl also caught the young, raven-haired Ravenclaw's attention, it was so cute.. She wondered quietly to herself if perhaps her parents would allow her to get an owl of her own.. though they weren't very normal pets to be kept by muggles, so perhaps not? She'd have to address the thought with them at some point, as an owl would allow her to easily have contact with her fellow students when back home for summer break.

Aria found herself slowly drawn to the Hufflepuff and her owl, now having pout down her book as she was shooting the occasional glance.. she was nervous, but she wanted to ask about it.. She'd been to the owlery before, but knew painfully little about the critters. Perhaps she ought to ask? Ah.. but she barely spoke with other students, and even less so ones that weren't in her own year, or even her own House.

"Ehm.. That's.. a cute little owl.. you.. have there.. what's it-" She paused.. she'd began talking without even realizing.. maybe she could do this, after all! Taking a breath, she continued. "What's it's name?" She marked her page and closed her copy of the Book of Spells, Trying to beat her own nervosity and looking at the pair of them, she was hoping that the fourth year student didn't find her too awkward..

Getting spoked was an understatement. Annie was humming and thought she heard a mumble so she paused. A few seconds of silence filled the air and she merely shrugged before another, slightly louder question was asked. She jumped up from sitting on the ground, springing to her feet quicker than she should have. Eriyk startled from his asleep position as the girl rubbed her head, a dull thudding pounding in her brain, yelling at her for standing up too quickly.

Twirling to where she thought she heard the voice she stuffed her hands into the pockets of her robe. "Er.. come again?" The brunette asked awkwardly, rubbing the back of her head. Eiryk had adjusted, and fluffed out his feathers, the rude awakening was not appreciated and Annie winced as he dug his talons in lightly on her shoulder to get the point across. Slowly connecting the dots to try to recall what the person had said. Suddenly the words flowed together.

"Oh you're asking about his name-- yeah this is Eiryk he's an Indian Eagle Owl. Just turned four in January." She'd reach up to pat him and he leaned into her hand as she itched under his feathers, thankfully not holding a grudge from earlier. She didn't need any more bandages on her fingers from owl nips or else people would give her strange looks. Blinking, she'd look back up and around the quiet space. "I hope I'm not bothering you here, usually the Courtyard is quite busy so I was actually surprised and relieved to find it empty." Annie hummed, directing her statement to no one in particular.

"Now that you know my owl's name, I should probably introduce myself hm?" A small laugh escaped her, introductions always escaped her mind, you would have thought she'd run in to everyone in the school now, but it seems the number of people were limitless. "My name's Annie, I'm a Fourth year Hufflepuff, pleased to meet you."She'd nod her head, not quite in the direction of the other person since she wasn't sure where they were located but it was better than trying to do a handshake.. Those never went well for her.

"What's your name?" The brunette mused, head tilting to the side in question.

Aria herself jumped as the girl did. She was startled by the sudden movement, but when it turned out the girl wasn't unfriendly, or anything like that, she tried to pretend she hadn't jumped at all, which, luckily, Annie wouldnt be able to tell anyway; it had happened when she was looking away still, after all.

Wearing a polite smile, the first-year nodded at the mention of the owl's name. "ahh, Eiryk? that's a cute name. I've been thinking of getting an owl myself, but I'm not sure if my parents will let me. Y'know.. muggle-born and all, owls aren't exactly a common pet for us." She cautionously moved closer to Annie and Eiryk, still smiling, though visually, a bit nervous still. "You're not bothering me at all, really.. Honestly, I was feeling.. ehm.. a little lonely, so it's a welcome distraction, really."

As she approached, she wondered if the owl was friendly enough to let strangers touch it.. but she did not think to ask about this, not yet.. she didn't want to be seen as that weird kid who was going about touching other people's stuff, or pets, for no reason. No, rather than that, she decided to wait for Annie to speak, which she then did, introducing herself and asking for her name in return.

"A-Aria Price, is my name, Im a first-year of Ravenclaw.. ehm.. though I suppose the blue on my robes gave that away, ehehe..." She felt a little awkward, and could feel her cheeks lighting up. Of course Annie could see she was a Ravenclaw, not just from the color of the lining of her robes; the Ravenclaw patch was right there on her robe as well!

Apparently she wasn't the only jumpy person here. The girl, Annie figured out who the figure was once they addressed themselves seemed to be light on their toes if not also a bit shy. Annie would casually crack her knuckles, a small sigh escaping her lips. "Ah glad I'm not bothering you then and nice to meet you Aria. Do you want an owl of your own then? The brunette inquired tilting her head in question.

She let out a small bubble of laughter at the stuttering girl, not making fun of her but her nervousness was quite cute, similar to someone she knew very well. "Nah wouldn't have been able to tell your house because these bad boys don't work." She pointed to her eyes with one finger, shrugging lightly. "Although I could probably tell by your aura and reaction to things you are a Ravenclaw.. just joking that would be cool if I could read people though I'm terrible at that sometimes, easy to ruin the mood y'know?" The brunette's mouth kept blabbing away.

"Sooo.. how'd you find yourself out in the Courtyard? Not wanting to be cooped up in the library on a nice day like this? I don't blame you. Come, sit down next to me I don't bite, maybe I will elbow yah with all my gestures when I talk though." She half joked, hoping to ease the girl's nerves, or make them worse. Again, reading people wasn't her thing and she could be scaring the kid more than being a friendly face.

"How are you enjoying your first year here? It's almost over huh.. only a few months left." Her words trailed as she thought back to Summer being right around the corner again, a soft longing sigh escaping her lips as she relaxed on the cobbled floor.
