2022, Stage 3 SPECTATOR Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff FIN

With her confession finally finished, Sophia forced her attention back to the duel. She didn't know half the people she was watching, since they weren't from her house, but she could still force herself to focus on the spells being cast. It was honestly the only way to stop herself from breaking up and crying. She had to force herself to be distracted.

As she watched Regina - the only one she knew - being blasted by another Flipendo, she winced. That one looked like it hurt, and she seemed to be hanging on by a thread at this point. Still, it looked like Gryffindor had it in the bag. It was still two versus one, after all, and one of the Gryffindor survivors was a year five student.

Kim was sputtering and stammering as soon as she mentioned the fact that he liked Felix. If she wasn't sure before, she was now. It hurt so much to realize it, but she didn't stand a chance anyway, so she may as well accept it.

"You called him 'pretty,'" she said with a giggle that contrasted the pain in her heart, "You can say you don't like him all you want, but the proof is in the pudding."

Then she paused, a stray thought worming into her mind.

"Kim, are you gay?" she asked. It was probably a difficult question, coming from a devout Catholic, but she was asking without a single hint of judgement. Sophia didn't mind other people being gay. She herself could never be gay, because of her faith, but she was always taught by her dad to never judge other people with different beliefs.

"If you are, I still love you," she said, turning her attention back to the duel. It was getting intense.

Round 5 had started.

Kim watched as Logan went after Aurelia but ended up missing her spell.

Aurelia was just too good and Kim had to admit, she was doing pretty well with avoidance. Sure, most of her spells tended to miss but at the same time she also didn't get hurt.

What Kim was really worried about was Regina now. The girl was looking really haggard from the Curse of the Bogies and her Incendio spell went off towards Aurelia instead of her target. Luckily, it didn't hit and Kim was relieved for her. As Aurelia's spell hit Logan again, Kim started to wonder if Full-Body-Bind curses were her specialty, the girl had always been able to hit Logan with them. Knowing this type of curse lasted for two rounds, Kim thought.

If Aurelia was smart, she would use this chance to try and heal Regina again. After all, Logan couldn't do anything for two rounds now. Aurelia should take the chance to cast the healing spell on Regina for both rounds. Or maybe do the healing spell for the first round and the counter-spell for the Curse of the Bogies the second round. That would prepare them to go after Logan directly after she got out of the curse. Kim glanced over at Sophia for a moment.

She started saying something about Stalker again.

Spouting some nonsense about how he was into him because he'd called him pretty.

Kim flushed. "T-that's because he is, don't you see it? It's n-not because I like him that I said it, it's because it's the truth! Right?" He glanced over at Felix.

But just as quickly averted his gaze before Felix could see him. It was then that Sophia asked him if he was gay and Kim froze. He blinked and then blinked again. What should he say to this? He'd been concealing multiple things from his 'friends', well namely just three huge things. The two minor things were things he wasn't entirely sure about. Like admitting he was gay to someone and his interest in Felix. Those were kind of a bit complicated, to handle.

Kim was fairly certain he was gay, as he'd never felt anything romantic towards girls before.

But at the same time, he didn't want anyone to know.

If it got back to his parents... he'd be in big trouble to say the least and he didn't want to think about it. The Satos had eyes and ears everywhere. But at the same time, this was Sophia.

Kim felt as if he could trust her, although back in the past he'd felt the same way about some of his previous friends. And they had all betrayed him in the end, something that had crushed him. It was because of this that he trust issues when it came to people wanting to be his 'friend' and it was hard to get him to accept someone as one now. But Sophia felt different than all the others. Maybe he'd give it one shot and see if it came back to bite him in the butt.

"Mm. I am. But please don't tell anyone and that includes Precious and Sage." Kim told her. "I don't want it getting out. It could cause some trouble for me if it was known." He added to clarify why he didn't want others to know. Kim let his blue eyes flicker over the girl before him as she spoke, telling him she'd still love him even if he was. A faint smile came to his lips. A real one this time. "Thanks." He told her and let a breath out.

One he hadn't even known he'd been holding all this time.

Sophia frowned, but she quickly covered it with a smile. She knew Kim was lying. He wasn't even a little convincing. It hurt to know she didn't stand a chance with him, but the fact that his crush seemed to be mutual at least gave her some comfort. He'd be happy. Still, his rambling was quite telling. After all, insisting that he'd called Felix pretty because he was pretty was a telltale sign that, yes, Kim liked him. It was like how Sophia thought he was attractive since the Ball.

"I personally don't think he's pretty," she said slowly, carefully, "He's not my type, though."

A flash of faces crossed Sophia's mind, and none of them looked all that much like Felix, but they were attractive to her, for sure. Her vision briefly fell away, and was replaced by dark eyes, smooth hair, and well-dressed figures. She stamped the thought out and turned her attention back to Felix.

Her type was much different than Felix. Sure, maybe he was objectively attractive, but she couldn't see the appeal. Kim, however, seemed to be practically drooling over him, and Sophia almost felt bad for the boy because of his own denial of his feelings. The irony of this pity was completely lost on Sophia.

When Kim finally offered an answer to her question about whether he was gay, it wasn't a surprise to her. She'd realized he was gay, or at least bi, before she'd even asked. She'd only really asked out of respect to Kim. The poor boy seemed to not be handling it well, having his own internal panic attack at her words.

"I promise, I won't tell anyone," she whispered with a nod, "Why not, though? I'm still not telling anyone, I promise, but is your family against gay people?"

She'd certainly met a few fellow Catholics back home that were anti-gay. She never had a problem with gay people, and neither did her parents. They'd always had a 'live-and-let-live' lifestyle, and she learned that at a young age. Even her grandma held the opinion that it wasn't worth getting frustrated with people because they believed differently than her.

It was far more important to love others, regardless of whether they were gay or straight, Catholic or not, or whatever. So, she didn't have even a small bit of judgement when Kim admitted to it, and, if anything, she had pity because of his potential situation that made him hide it.

She could certainly relate to having to hide, or completely change things, about your life because of your situation. She'd said a single curse word as a toddler at Mass one time, and one of the nuns had rapped her hand with a yardstick, so she'd learned not to curse. She'd loved wearing shorts and tank tops as a little girl, but several of the older members of the congregation hadn't like it, so she'd adopted her more modest attire she stuck to now.

But, she didn't mind these things so much. She'd grown up like that. Maybe Kim was the same way with his gayness? Maybe he was so accustomed to hiding it, that it didn't bother him?

"If you ever tell everyone, and you have nowhere to go, you can always come live with me and my Gramma," she said, wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug. She didn't know why, but this night's conversations really made her feel huggy. Hopefully Kim was okay with that, 'cause he'd have to get used to it. They'd just reached a new milestone in their friendship.

Kim was still waiting to find out what was going to happen.

Now that Logan was down, they had some time to recover, hopefully they would be able to.

Judging from how Regina was reacting, Aurelia's best action would be removing the Curse of the Bogies over healing Regina. Mostly because the curse was affecting her way more than her lack of health. But since there was a lull now in the duel, Kim's attention was focused on Sophia. And Sophia was saying some things that were making him feel nervous. "W-well... most people... do..." Kim ended up saying lamely and cleared his throat, averting his eyes.

When Sophia agreed not to tell anyone, Kim nodded, feeling a little relieved by her words. Yes, even though many had told him this before and then betrayed him, for some reason he trusted Sophia. Those in the past had said they wouldn't tell anything that Kim didn't want them to tell, but then he'd learned later on that they'd instantly gone out and spread the word amongst the pureblood community. This had made him a bit paranoid about multiple things.

Mostly when it came to trust.

But once again, Kim was trying to trust someone. Sophia was different, she had to be.

When she asked for the reason and then wondered if his family was against gay people, Kim raised a finger to his lips. "We shouldn't talk about it here. Too many people could overhear. And... Stalker is still here, you know." He reminded her, trying not to stare in Felix's direction. If Sophia really wanted to know, she'd send him an owl later or ask him the next time they were alone. And if she didn't, Kim would be happy she'd forgotten about it.

The girl's next words made him look down at her and his blue eyes lingered on top of her head. Sophia's arms being around him hugging him made his body tense a little out of instinct. But Kim didn't pull away from her touch. It felt rather nice and there weren't many people around, which made him feel more comfortable. He didn't tend to have too much anxiety if there weren't a lot of people around, but Kim also didn't usually like being touched.

Not unless he was very comfortable with the other person.

Like he was with Sophia.

"Mm. I'll consider that." Kim told her with a smile. Yes, an actual smile for once. It was because he wasn't thinking about needing to smile, it had just happened naturally instead.

The match was in its 7th round out of 12.

Things didn't seem to be going too well for Aurelia, as she couldn't seem to get a spell off, most of the time.

He wasn't sure if it was nerves or something else. Perhaps she was feeling unsettled for some reason and that was affecting her casting spells. He only hoped she could overcome this before the duel was over.

On the other hand, Regina seemed to be doing really well for her first time. Kim was proud of her and was glad he had been able to witness her blossoming into a skilled duelist. He himself couldn't wait to become part of the dueling club later on too. Despite the fact that he didn't want to join until he was 100% confident in his spells, he'd been advised to sign up sooner rather than later. Only because there was apparently a waitlist now. So he'd signed up, knowing that even if he got accepted right now he'd still be able to do some damage. He did have some confidence.

When it came to spells. After all, Kim was a bit of a perfectionist when it came to his studies, clubs and spells. He had a tendency to put his all into anything he did and had a bit of OCD too. If it wasn't perfect, he didn't accept it until it was. Of course, he was harder on himself than on others. Mostly because he knew what he was capable of, but when it came to others, he had no clue. All he could do was make educated guesses, based on his knowledge of the person. The 7th round finally ended with a smokescreen cast by Logan, an interesting choice by the Hufflepuff girl.

There was a risk when using such a spell in a match.

It would affect you too. But perhaps she'd done it because she was up against two people and not one.

Maybe she needed time to think about what to do. Kim continued to watch as the 8th round started. Once this round ended, there would only be 4 remaining out of the 12. He couldn't quite see through the smoke but eventually Kim managed to spot both Logan and Regina, although didn't see Aurelia. Logan was pointing her wand through the smoke and Regina was trying to randomly cast a spell to see if she hit someone. It was the best they could do in this situation. But at least Regina hadn't gotten hit by a spell, which was all Kim cared about. He wanted to see her win.

After everything she'd gone through, she deserved to win and it would make her confidence in her skills grow too. And then the smoke cleared to reveal all the duelists. None of them looked bad and none seemed to have incurred any new injuries. Kim wondered what they would do for the next round and debated within his own mind. If he was Aurelia, he'd focus on trying to take Logan down with a spell of some sort, perhaps the Curse of the Bogies. That had seemed to be quite an effective spell. But then again, Aurelia hadn't had much luck lately with her spells going off.

If it rebounded and hit either her or Regina that would be horrible.

Perhaps the Knockback Jinx would be the best possible solution. Yes, Kim thought that would be the one.

Even if it failed, it wouldn't be too bad compared to other offensive spells. If he'd been Regina, he'd try and cast the same spell on Logan too. If a miracle happened and both Knockback Jinx's hit her, she'd take a ton of damage. Even if they failed, the two Lions wouldn't be that bad off and could try a different set of spells. But of course, Regina and Aurelia weren't him. Perhaps they had other ideas in mind to try out on their opponent. Kim wondered what they would choose and whether or not it would go through. The boy had to admit, the duel was quite interesting to watch.

He couldn't wait to be part of the team. Kim glanced over at Stalker briefly and then to Sophia. And then finally returned his attention back to the duelists on stage, waiting for the next round to start.

The rest of the match went by quickly for all involved parties.

Even the spectators seemed to feel that way as they watched how things unfolded in the match.

Regina was able to hit Logan with a nicely timed Flipendo, while also able to avoid Logan's own attack. Quite nice. Aurelia's spell finally was able to help her teammate out and the two stood together to face their lone attacker. However, Logan was not down and out yet and was still able to do some damage. Regina ended up being set on fire, or rather her clothes were, and Kim couldn't help but be a little worried. He wanted to extinguish the fire but this was a duel, so he couldn't interfere. But that didn't make the feeling go away, which was a shame. He couldn't help it.

Still, it seemed as if this duel would most likely have an obvious winner. Gryffindor. Because even if Logan could somehow manage to take someone out, she probably wouldn't be able to eliminate both members. And the member left standing would definitely have more health than her. Thus, giving Gryffindor the win this time. But Kim still didn't want to see Regina being taken out. The rest of the match proceeded smoothly and the eventual declaration of the winner of the match was stated. Kim got to his feet as Regina did too and headed for the door, wanting to speak.

He glanced back over at Sophia.

"It was good to see you, Sophia. I'll see you later on." Kim told her.

"Zàijiàn!" He said, using the Mandarin word for goodbye and raised a hand to his temple and then gave her a sideways peace sign with his fingers. Glancing over at Stalker, or should he call him by a more gentle name now? After all, the boy had been... different since the ball... maybe he deserved a new nickname. Kim headed for the door, as Regina swept out of the room, and rushed to catch up with her. She was most likely heading for the hospital wing to take care of her possible injuries. He could chat with her there while she waited to be seen before heading outside.
