It was about 4:10 in the afternoon. Classes were done for the day, but AngelFyre was due to meet Sarah any minute now for their study session. Her legs were lifting and lowering on the balls of her feet at a rapid rate beneath the table, and AngelFyre happily discovered she was having a hard time trying to contain herself. She had received a long-awaited owl from home that morning and it was a surprise for her friend. It was nothing earth shattering, but she knew it would have special meaning between the two.

The year had been great for them in some ways and miserable in others. AngelFyre knew she had met a kindred spirit in Sarah that morning under the stairs, and while it looked early on that they might just be inseperable, life reared its ugly head and put a number of halting stops and starts to their friendship. It was not a fault of either girl, it was just how it had worked out, sadly.

Happily for both of them, however, they seemed to reconnect after the Midspring Celebration, and AngelFyre was overjoyed. Simon was her sun, her moon, and her stars... and he always would be... but AngelFyre knew she needed to round herself out and pursue other friendships as well. An added benefit to this pursuit was that she had found that by doing so, the time she shared with him was so much sweeter. Besides, there was just something about her friendship with Sarah in particular that felt important to pursue.

She glanced up at the clock -- 4:14 p.m. Sarah would be here any minute now.

After class Sarah made her way along the corridor that lead to the library, but once she rounded the corner, It looked like one of the ghosts was calling students names and wouldn’t let them pass. It took a little while before one of the professors turned up. The ghost even called the professor a name which Sarah didn't dare to repeat. Some students were shocked by it, others found it funny. The professor sure didn’t, and neither did the ghost anymore. They were forced to move on. With a huff of defeat, they passed through one of the walls without another word.

Sarah carried on down the corridor as everyone went about the rest of their day, and soon arrived at the library where she found her friend. She smiled. “I’m sorry I’m late.. I really hope that you haven't been waiting too long.” Sarah told her, a little out of breath as she had decided to run the rest of the way. She didn’t want to be too late afterall. “There was a holdup in the corridor... A ghost had gone rogue or something.” She pulled her bag from off her shoulder, placed it down beside one of the free tables near to the large tall windows that overlooked Hogwart’s grouds, and took a seat ready to study.

Every single day had been a treat since there was always something happening in Hogwarts. There wasn't anytime to feel bored really, especially not when she had AngelFyre with her.

Sarah opened her textbook, slumped over it a little and began to read in the cozy light of the candle that sat on their desk. It was nice to be here with someone. Loneliness felt like a neverending darkness that could easily swallow anyone if they allowed it to. Being an only child was lonely, but here at Hogwarts... that was impossible now. It was a thing of the past. Buried. The day she met Angel was the day she had finally found light in that very same darkness.

She had just looked up at the clock which now read 4:17 p.m. when at that very moment, Sarah rounded the corner and walked past the stacks to the table. AngelFyre was just relieved that she was okay.

Listening to her story, AngelFyre laughed. "The whole idea of a ghost going rogue just tickles me. I mean, they are kind of rogues to begin with if you think about it. Hanging around this plane rather than moving on and accepting that they have died. It will be interesting to either read what happened or to hear it through the Hogwarts grapevine." And then she chuckled even further. "I think it would be hilarious if they were collecting tolls from students in the hallways if they wanted to pass. Can you imagine? The thought of a toll reminds me of that children's book, 'The Phantom Tollbooth' Did you ever read that? Very clever book." And there it was. Sarah had not even been there for two minutes and already one of their absolute favorite topics had reared its head. Books. They were each crazy about books.

Noting that Sarah was already studying, AngelFyre debated with herself whether to do it now or wait, and she decided to give the gift to Sarah now. She was afraid that if she waited until they finished, it would be rushed and that would be no fun for either of them. Also, AngelFyre was simply buzzing electric with the anticipation of seeing Sarah's expression when she saw what was in the box, and she just did not think she would be able to concentrate on her History of Magic lesson otherwise.

Reaching into her enchanted satchel, she pulled out the box. It was wrapped only in brown parchment paper, but she had gathered some lovely, leafy vines from her lunchtime walk to the Great Lake. and she had tied that around the box and made it into a pretty, leafy bow. Clearing her throat, she interrupted Sarah's reading. In a hushed tone, she said "Hey, I hate to bother your concentration with final exams coming upon us, but this arrived from home this morning, and I just could not wait to give it to you," and AngelFyre brought the box up from her lap and placed it on the the table, pushing it slowly towards Sarah. "I hope you like this," she said suddenly a little nervous that she actually might not like it, but even that would be okay. The thought was there at least.

As Sarah opened the packaging, she would find a pair of black and yellow Image posted by the member ankle boots. "I saw these and could not help myself. It put me in mind of that morning under the stairs when we first met and it was your flowery sneakers that caught my attention. If you do not like them, I promise I will not be offended. They did not come from the magical Blooms, so sorry about that, but I think they are rather pretty. And honestly, you cannot go wrong with our house colors I am thinking."

Watching her pull the boots out of the box, she ended with, "And the very best part is that I am wearing my very own pair, too! See?" And at that, AngelFyre turned towards Sarah and stuck her legs straight out and wiggled her feet in a counter-clockwise position. "We can be shoe twins!"

Sarah had almost forgotten about the upcoming exams, so it was a good idea to catch up on their studying together. “I can't say I have." she hadn't heard of that book. “But the title alone seems interesting." It was almost the second year already? Sarah could still remember the first week she arrived at the school, her anxiety making her a bag of nerves which settled once she was settled into all the new surroundings. Here, she felt safe.

So many faces passed by daily, and she didn't know a single one by name. She still didn't. Kind of. There were of course students she had heard about, or come to learn some other way, but she didn't know them personally. The other houses were just the same - faces with no names. Besides, it wasn't important to know every single person who attended the school, all that mattered was being with those she cared about; AngelFyre being one of them of course.

Sarah got stuck into studying for a little moment before AngelFyre pulled her attention away from the book she was concentrating on. "Wait... you got me something?" she couldn't believe it. Soon as the gift was revealed, a smile grew on Sarah's face. Her hands immediately took out the pretty boots, her eyes studying them as her hands turned them at every angle possible. The artwork on them was adorable; the flowers, the bees. They were perfect. "I love them!" she squealed softly, almost forgetting they were still in the library. It was cute that AngelFyre also had the same pair. Definitely twinsies. Sarah grinned. She began to remove the ones she had on, and replaced them with the new ones, wiggling her little feet into them before she was hoisting them up above the stone floor of the library, admiring them more. "You spoil me, Angelfyre... but I feel a bit guilty now that I haven't gotten you anything." She would have to correct that at some point. But gifts weren't really meant for just receiving a gift back, it was purely for when you thought of them.
"Thank you." Sarah got up from where she sat and moved around the table to get closer to her friend. She wrapped her arms around her, pulling her into a hug with a squeeze. "They're the best!"

[quote][quote]Her eyes shone with pure delight as Sarah opened the box and squealed in joy when she saw the boots. AngelFyre could tell immediately that she truly liked them and was not just being polite. Sarah's smile grew even wider when she saw AngelFyre also had a pair and was wearing them. Both girls had rather dissolved into hushed giggles as Sarah took off her current footwear and replaced it with it her new ones. "Perfect!" AngelFyre said with a sunny happiness when Sarah raised them up to show her. Then, when Sarah suddenly got up and came around to give her a hug, AngelFyre closed her eyes and smiled. She knew how hard things often were for her friend, and even being able to reach out in such a manner to another person was something Sarah could probably never have even imagined her future self being able to do a year ago. But this was the here and now, and the Sarah of the past would be so proud of the strides the Sarah of the future would make.

"Och! You know there is no need to feel guilty. This hug and that smile are way more than enough. You know that," and she reached up to squueze and pat Sarah's hands as they locked around her. AngelFyre cleared her throat a bit as Sarah moved back to her seat and got herself settled once again. Swallowing only a little nervously as her throat suddenly felt like the scalding sands of the Sahara desert, AngelFyre opened a topic that she knew would not be an altogether happy one for her friend. "Sarah, there is something I want to speak about with you, though. I know we briefly touched on it a couple of weeks ago, but time is growing short. Have you thought any more on the subject of summer camp? My plans are firm. I will be going."

She watched Sarah to see if she would be able to detect any irritation that the subject was being brought up once again. AngelFyre knew any negative reaction, if there even were to be a negative reaction, would not be personal. It would be coming from a place of Sarah's fear and discomfort. "I will be honest and say I am only going in the hopes of meeting new people. Simon is more than likely not going to be there, David Howard is still uncertain, and lots of others I know will not be there either. I will still go, even if you do not, so I am not putting pressure on you for that reason. I just think it would be good for you... good for both of us. And I cannot promise I will be with you every second, but I would be for most of them."

She watched Sarah who was just so quiet, giving nothing away, well nothing except that momentary implosion of peace and self-confidence that had been dancing in her eyes only a couple of blinks ago. AngelFyre knew her friend's outer calm was a grand facade for her insides which were most likely roiling in fear, chaos, and panic, but she also believed Sarah deep, deep down wanted to experience Hogwarts to is fullest. "I wish I knew some magic that I could wield to make your social anxiety disappear, but I am not that learned a witch yet. The only transformative magic I have to offer you right now, maybe ever, is my friendship." Then reaching over to Sarah, she took her hand in hers and gave it a gentle squeeze. "I promise you this, Sarah. I will still love you even if you decide not to go, you know that, but I will make every effort to see we have a summer we will always remember if you do go. Most importantly, I simply will not allow anyone to pressure you into doing anything you do not wish to do... including me," and she squeezed her hand reassuringly.
