Athena walked into the dungeon and wrinkled her nose as she sat down at her table. A list of ingredients and instructions was written on a piece of paper in front of her.
“It’s a recipe for Herbicide Potion! I’ve done this before, I won’t need this recipe!” Athena slid the slip of paper aside and stood up to get her ingredients. She carefully grabbed bottles from the shelf and set them down on her desk. Athena got to work crushing, measuring and mixing the ingredients together as quickly as possible and never looked at the slip of paper once. Soon everything was in the pot and was bubbling merrily. Athena stood up and walked over to the (sink?) to wash her hands. Suddenly a loud fizzing sound was heard from the back of the room, near her table. Athena finished washing her hands and turned to head back to her table when she saw what had happen.
“It exploded!” she cried as everyone stared at the bubbling mess at her table.
“It looks like that volcano experiment the muggles do!” Remarked one student. Athena glared at them as she looked around for something to clean it up. She spotted a magic broomstick (not for flying) in the back of the room and picked it up. She mumbled a few words and sent it raving across the room to start absorbing the mess.

Cara followed Athena to the potions dungeon. Cara and Athena sat down at the table, observing the paper on the table.
“It’s a recipe for Herbicide Potion! I’ve done this before, I won’t need the recipe!” Athena announced. Athena hurried off to get her ingredients, while Cara examined the list of ingredients and read through the instructions. Cara had never made this potion before, but had worked with all of the ingredients. She knew that potion making was a difficult task, and you had to be super precise, so you wouldn’t make a mistake. Cara took the list with her over to the shelf. She grabbed all of the ingredients on the list. Athena had already started her potion when Cara put all of her ingredients on the table. Cara carefully measured and mixed all of the ingredients. When Cara was on the last step she heard a loud fizzing sound. She looked up and saw that Athena’s potion was going to bubble over! Cara quickly picked up the heavy cauldron. Just in time she thought, as she watched Athena’s potion explode. Athena hurried over, wondering what had happened to her potion.
“It Exploded!” Athena cried. Everyone was staring at their table as Athena cleaned up the mess. After Athena was done cleaning up the mess Cara moved her potion back to her table and finished it up. She grabbed a bottle to pour her sample in, and left the sample on the teachers desk. As Cara was helping Athena put away ingredients, she realized what Athena had done wrong. Athena was already in a very bad mood, so Cara decided to just leave her alone.

A Slight Disaster
“Stupid potions class,” grumbled Athena as she tried to ignore her friends perfect potion which matched the one in the book. Athena finished cleaning the mess and walked up to the professor with her head held in shame. On the professors desk was other completed potions, one of which was Cara’s. She knew what she should’ve done, but she had wanted to impress her professor by not using a recipe. She would appear smart. She would maybe be the teachers favorite student. Instead she would probably appear as the arrogant student who couldn’t do things correctly. Just because I was dumb, Athena thought to herself, I screwed it all up.Athena prepared what she would say to the professor in explanation to her failure.
“Just be honest” She chided herself. “The profesor will understand” Athena cringed at the thought and turned around. Nope. She couldn’t do it. Athena walked back to her seat and willed the class to end soon, and thankfully it did. She rushed out of the classroom dreading the next day and what was to come. She avoided Cara in the hallways but couldn’t stay away from her in herbology. Athena had to face her friend.
