Bad At Reading
It may have come as a surprise to everyone but herself, but Enya was bad at reading. Her fathers had initially thought that she might get better as she gets older and didn't press too much thought into it. But when Enya was nearing her time at Hogwarts, and still was having trouble reading the enormous books, there was definitely a problem.
She tried hard to keep up with her classmates, even enlisting in Elliott's help to try and tackle her issue with reading, but it didn't seem as though any of it mattered. Her hard work didn't seem to add up to much in the end, but Enya couldn't give up now! She had wasted so much time reading "A History of Magic" a thousand times!
As she sat down in one of the chairs, she had barely even noticed the young boy sitting across from her. She flipped open the book she had grabbed, faintly ignoring the cover and title, and began skimming through the table of contents. Maybe one of these chapters would sound interesting?
Alas, nothing in the book peaked her interest, and instead of getting back up and scouring the library once more, she looked up to the boy.
"Hi, do you have any book recommendations?" She asked, motioning vaguely to the rows of books behind her. "I'm having trouble finding something interesting to read."

"Ah, hello Enya. Where you here for some studying?" It was almost a rhetorical question. "Currently I'm reading Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Mister Scamander truly knows how to place normally boring research into an interesting format." He said this, knowing somewhat that this didn't really interest Enya however, as an honest answer. "Though I'm not sure on your favorite genre of book, that is just my personal interest right now."
"Aren't the little bios and drawings eye-opening, eye-catching? Who knew such animals, beasts, creatures lived in this world? They live and breathe along side us." He ran his fingers through the cover and flipped open the book already filled with bright sticky-notes.
"I'm sure my parents wouldn't," he thought for a bit deciding his words. "Be very supportive of my favorite subject. But they are not here, so who's really looking on my shoulder?" He had the fondest little smile on his face. He could just be himself. His mother trusted him enough to be here without her supervision or having to send letters every day. Once a week was enough, really. Elias looked at the other books wrapped around his right arm. They were stale, just books for subjects he didn't entirely care for.

"Oh my gosh! Hi Elias!" She quickly waved upon realizing it was someone she recognized. Though she wouldn't consider Elias a close friend, he was still some good company- albeit his constant uppity personality did make Enya a little nervous to stay on edge and mind her words.
She laughs, shocked she hadn't recognized him earlier, and went to cover her mouth after a moment to stifle the sound. They were in the library, after all, and she didn't want a fellow student or the librarian to shush her. Turning back to face Elias with a rather sheepish smile, she listened intently to what he had to say.
"Yeah, I think animals are really cool," she points to a specific one in the book, the dragon. "When I was little, I thought dragons were the coolest thing, and every night before bed, I asked my dad to read me a story about them." She smiles fondly. "I'm sure he got so sick of it, after a while though."
Enya couldn't really care for Scamander, he was just another author, in her eyes. His work with magical creatures was really cool, though!
Pausing, she turned to her satchel, and pulled out one of the smaller books she carried with her. A book from her childhood, the one her dad had read her the most. It was just a muggle book, 'Dragons Are Real!' but Enya loved it so much as a child. Even reading it now, she was filled with a certain feeling of fondness.
"This book, actually." She hands it over to Elias to let him see, but she was sure he would scoff at it. He really was posh, wasn't he?

"How fascinating!" Elias said, looking over at Enya's book. "I have not personally researched dragons as I am much more interested in birds and such." He wondered, was it truly fondness or just nostalgia? Perhaps it was a bit of both. "You should read it to me sometime." Elias hoped too also feel this. Like a mother reading bedtime stories to their child, a small group of kids listening to the adult read fables. 'Come now children to-day we're reading...' The children put down their toys in a rush, they're left a mess, but no one has time to care. Maybe he shall latch to this feeling like a leech. Suck out the emotion till he can't feel any it anymore.
"I could also read some books to you if you would like an equal trade. I cannot say that you would find them interesting." Would Enya be able to understand them, even? No, he shouldn't think of an acquaintance like that. Simply assume the best. Perhaps he shall review some of the difficult words first. That is if Enya says yes, he would never be offended if she declined. But, maybe, in the deepest dark of his mind, he wants to be the mother reading bedtime stories. The adult reading to the ruckus children. Mother wouldn't like that; he must become a great wizard. Only then does he fit a proper role in society.

"You should read it to me sometime."
Enya burst into quiet fits of giggles- her?! reading?! never! She covered her mouth to stifle her laugh, nobody had ever tried to get her to read something! It was unheard of, between not only herself, but both friends and members of her family as well.
She really should try more, but it was too hard, and the only thing Enya liked trying hard for, was sports. On the field, it was appreciated that she tried her hardest. In school, sure it was the same, but she felt inadequate in that field.
"Elias, you know that I don't read." she whispered, pointing to him. "I'm not a nerd like you."
The offer of reading to someone close to her, was something Enya thought was incredibly endearing. If she were any good at it, she would definitely take up Elias' offer. The book was a childhood favorite, after all. She liked listening to her father amazingly narrate her favorite story, maybe she could be as good as him, one day?
A thought crossed her mind, she could always get better at reading by doing it to schoolchildren. She had heard of events in libraries, where people could go and read to young kids. Enya had been to one of those events, with her dad. It was one of the best days of her life! But she couldn't read, and she couldn't do good storytelling.
"If I was good at it, I'd like to read to kids, someday."

"That seems like a very 'you' talent." Elias smiled and laughed. "Perhaps I will be able to do that in my free time after I become a great wizard and sage." Yes, if mother allows me to. Perhaps I shall ask father. Though, does he even care? Now isn't the situation to waste time on useless, meaningless questions.
"Random question, Enya, what is your favorite subject to research for?" Did Enya research? Again, a useless question no need to dwell on it. "It doesn't have to be Hogwarts related. Anything goes." He leaned against the bookcase; shined shoes look pretty but Elias was almost counting the small blisters on his feet. "I personally adore birds as I have stated before, but I also love talking to ghosts. I learn all the names I can and write them down." He dug in his back pocket to show a mini notebook. Flipping through it shows the drawings and lengthy paragraphs about the wondering spirits in the vast halls of Hogwarts. Elias almost called these ghosts a second family. Joking, spending time, building bonds with these former wizards and witches. He's never mentioned this to his mother, but he would rather die than confess he spent his time doing 'useless activities.'

"Random question, Enya, what is your favorite subject to research for?"
Eh? Who researched a subject? Perhaps this was Elias' fancy way of saying "consuming every piece of media known to man on a show you liked". Enya still didn't really do that. She spent more of her time outside than reading, or watching T.V. Did Elias even own a television? Did he watch shows and plays while growing up? She wasn't entirely sure.
"Uh, I'm not entirely sure what you mean," she said. "But if you mean something like watching a whole bunch of shows because one actor was in it, then I sorta did that."
Her mind spiked back to 'Zendaya', a really beautiful actress who Enya had had a huge crush on whilst growing up. When she heard that Zendaya was going to be a character in an upcoming movie, she quickly watched all of the movies leading up to the one Zendaya was going to be in.
"Like there's this actress, she's really pretty, and I watched all of the shows and movies she was in."
Enya wasn't particularly embarrassed about her fangirling over the actress. As far as she was concerned, all of her friends found her to be really pretty too.
"It's cute how you do that with the birds," she giggled. "Do you and your mum go birdwatching?"
Both Enya and her dad went to theatre shows and watched the hell out of them if they came on D.V.D, or on T.V. Her father joined in too, sometimes. He wasn't as big of a fan as plays as Enya and her dad were.
Though the thought would never cross her mind, maybe her father just wanted to spend time with the two of them.

"Like there's this actress, she's really pretty, and I watched all of the shows and movies she was in."
"Well, you were still quite... passionate about the subject." Elias' smiled showed even though his statement almost came off as 'I'm getting a restraining order as we speak.' That is still something to admire, Enya Elias thought as he shifted in his stance. He wishes to stand as the others do. Not with prim white dress shoes almost suffocating his feet, or the ironed white shirt that seams feel like stabs to the hips. Adjusting his books with no cover, no sound though the weigh heavily on his arms and elbows. They carry his whole world.
"Do you and your mum go birdwatching?"
"Ah, I wish." Elias smiled fondly, "I went birdwatching without her knowledge." It was so nice to just listen and watch birds. One Christmas Elias asked his mother for a book on birds. She laughed, 'Who needs to learn about birds? They do not matter to your daily life' He dragged himself back to his room, practicing Beethoven's Violin Concerto to hopefully sound out his own thoughts. Now, now. You're talking to someone. No need to think of the past, Lee. Elias began to trace stars on the side of his leg. Desperate to calm himself from the rising worry in his brain. What more could you ask in a library? Is she getting creeped out? Maybe I should just make an excuse and rush out.
