All For a Broom
"Why me?"
This was the question that plagued Winifrey Golding's mind as she raced across the grounds, trying to catch the stupid broom that seemed hell bent on flying away from her. She had almost caught it a couple of times, but it was just barely out of reach. It was almost as if it repelled from her, like two magnets that were positive. Or negative. She probably looked insane as she chased the school broom across the grounds, running full speed by students who were lounging during their free time. But at this point, Winifrey did not care. She would not loose school property.
She had lost crayons, books, and even live animals before at her old school back in Cambridge. The consequences were not so great. Winifrey would rather not repeat that experience, especially at a school like Hogwarts where someone can simply point their wand at her, yell incendio, and she's dead. Winifrey fully intended on making it past first year. But loosing a magical broom would not put her on the good side of those in charge of the magical school of Hogwarts.
Winifrey had been enjoying her break, taking the opportunity to get out of the stuffy robes and put on some regular clothing from home. It was actually a bit of a comfort. She had gone outside, fully intending on laying on the grass somewhere and sleeping. Maybe she would watch the clouds or pick the grass. Anything but school work was great at this point. In her head, it was going to be amazing. It was going to be absolute bliss because it was a time where she did not have any homework to worry about and she could finally relax.
But then a couple of older students had approached her, asking if she would hold onto the broom that they had while they went to look for another. Winifrey immediately thought it was strange, but she did not question it. She was in a good mood so she agreed and held onto the broom for them while they ran off. The small brunette set it down next to her while she laid back on the grass once again, placing her hands behind her head as she closed her eyes.
Then there was a rustle next to her head, causing Winifrey to jerk slightly as she turned to look and see what it was. Nothing. It was simply the broom laying where she had left it. Winifrey frowned slightly before laying back down and shutting her eyes once again. There it was. A slight rustle of the grass only able to come from something that was moving. The small brunette sat up, scanning the area around her. There was nobody close enough to be making the volume of noise next to her ear. Unless there was some sort of animal in the grass. Winifrey leaned forward towards the broom, simply to inspect the grass. But as she moved closer, the broom seemed to jerk away from her.
Startled, Winifrey gasped, scooting back quickly as she stared at the broom, unsure of what exactly just happened. Did it just move? She thought it was only suppose to move if someone commanded it to. Cocking her head curiously, Winifrey moved forward again, reaching out to grab the broom. But it simply scooted further away from her, out of her reach.
Now she was frustrated, her face scrunching up slightly as she launched herself forward, confident that she would get the broom this time. Instead, she landed with a small thump on her stomach in the grass, the broom two feet in front of her as it now hovered in the air. Winifrey glared at the broom, staying still for a couple of seconds before jumping to her feet and chasing after the stupid broom.
And that's where she is now, running at full speed after a broom. A broom.
Why me?
A group of students, all carrying homework walked out from the side of the school. Winifrey's eyes widened as she did her best to maneuver around them. But her shoulder caught one of the student's pile of books that they were holding in their arms, causing her to roughly spin around and slam into another student. Papers and books went flying as Winifrey sputtered apologies picking up some of the books and handing it back to the students before running off again. She almost tripped over her feet as she stumbled away from the mess she created.
Just catching her breath, she barely had a split second to react as she jumped over a sleeping student on the ground, although she doubt he noticed her. He looked out as he lay on the grass, his robe covering his face.
Breathing heavily, Winifrey's eyes quickly caught the broom that had not slowed down one bit. She carried the book in her arms as she picked up her pace. Wait. Where did she get this book from? Confusion crossed her face as she looked down at the book in her arms, completely missing the boy that had somehow made his way onto her running path.
She practically body slammed the poor kid, knocking the breath out of her as she flew back, landing on her back in the damp grass, groaning lightly. Winifrey did not hesitate as she stood up, picking up the book she had somehow acquired.
"So sorry about that," She breathed out, her brows furrowed as she once again looked at the book in her hands. It was a textbook. She visibly scowled. Winifrey's eyes turned to the boy, Hufflepuff by the looks of the colors he was wearing. Unless he simply like that color because it was free time.
"Is this book yours? I think it is," She chuckled lightly, tossing it onto his chest without thinking as she began running after the broom again. "Sorry again!" She called back, quickly picking up her pace after the broom that was heading dangerously close towards the Forbidden Forest.

All For a Broom
There was a mental promise of making sure that the schedule for today was followed to the last letter. But the rest of his time was spent wandering the grounds of Hogwarts in search of anything that could keep him from going to the library. After giving up on the idea that he should even try to get avoid his studies, Reid began his trek back to the Hogwarts castle. However, he wanted to get some lunch and perhaps he wouldn't feel so sluggish at the least.
The heel of his leather shoes dug into the earthy sod of the grounds. dirtying the once clean leather with a thin coat of dirt. From first glance, he looked like a kid who wasn't the most physically put together. In fact, his tying skills were mediocre at best, there were odd patches of dirt on the white shirt, and the once shiny ebony leather was nothing but faded and slightly cracked at its surface. There was a lack of poise in his stride, his arms swung just enough to hit an unfortunate soul that wouldn't respect their territory.
A painful awareness grew in the back of his mind as he spotted a group of friends pass him on his way back with a chorus of laughter that could strike envy. It wasn't loneliness, it was the fact that he didn't know how to fix it or understand why this was happening. Was he just supposed to accept that this was a part of his adolescence? It was too laborious for him to ponder upon, he was tired of questioning himself at every turn. Admittedly, he also didn't want to damper his mood because he was sure of the fact that something else would do it for him later in the day.
But whatever it was, he thought this was it. It came fast, around the bend and even then all it did was slightly bounce him back. A rogue student crashing into him was the last thing he ever thought would be the issue, let alone a misplaced book. Not a moment too soon, he glanced at the text in his hands. The voice of protest from the Hufflepuff came swift, cracking slightly as he hit a certain pitch, "Hey, wait!" This wasn't his book, he didn't even carry a book with him. What if she just stole this too?
Reid didn't want to be responsible for someone else's property, thus the boy whipped around to go after the Gryffindor. He wasn't a runner, clearly, but he pursued the girl nonetheless. "This isn't my book!" The more he followed, the more he realized that she was also tailing something and that something was a broom. A rogue student, a rogue broom, and a misplaced book; this was not the scenario the Hufflepuff was expecting.
The closer he got to the Forbidden Forest's outskirts, the more his feet relented against his will. There was still that nagging feeling he had in the back of his mind, chewing at his confidence like a pack of wolves on his heels. It howled danger, told him that he was making a mistake, and told him of the extreme outcomes of how this could all end. Surely she would stop, right?
"Trouble usually finds me."

All For a Broom
Nope.
Winifrey was definitely not stopping as she neared the dense tree line. She encouraged herself, saying that she was getting closer to the damned broom. If she kept her speed up, she would catching it eventually. Hopefully. Right?
A voice came from behind her, causing Winifrey to quickly glance over her shoulder. Was that the boy she had crashed into earlier? He was saying something about a book. Oh. No no no. Nope. She did not want it. It was not her book and it would definitely not help in her chase. Unless of course, it was that manual on how to catch a possessed broom. But she doubted it. Winifrey quickly waved him away with her right hand as she neared the forest, the broom crashing through some underbrush before disappearing completely.
Winifrey did not stop, she did not even slow down. Instead, it was almost like she sped up. The small brunette covered her face by shielding both of her arms over her face before crashing through the underbrush and disappearing completely from view.
The forest was darker than she expected, but she did not relent in her speed as she did her best to search for the broom. The darkness was definitely not helping, but her eyes were quick to catch sight of the broom that was still going the same speed.
Winifrey cursed under her breath, tempted to stop but she would not loose school property. Never again. The thought of it made her frown so she quickly shook the memory away, instead quickening her pace after the jinxed broom. She would definitely be sore after this. It was probably the most running she has done since joining Hogwarts.
The trees only seemed to be getting bigger as she slowly gained on the broom, the air growing colder and the light slowly seeping away. Winifrey chose to ignore this, knowing that the sooner the broom was caught, the sooner she could get out of here.
She must have completely missed the well hidden root, but the lack of light was not helping either. It caught her right foot, causing her to yelp. But the sound was cut short as she landed on the ground with a thump, rolling rather quickly down the small hill. When she was finally able to get a hold of herself, she jumped to her feet. Frantically wiping the dirt and leaves off of her clothing, Winifrey quickly glanced around, her eyes wide as she scanned the dark forest for the stupid broom. Wisps of hair had fallen in her face, her chest heaving from the run as she stumbled in a circle, squinting her eyes to see through the dark.
Something whizzed by in the distance, causing Winifrey to swivel and gaze in that direction. Then the same sound cam from behind her, causing her to swiftly turn around. There it was, right in front of her. The broom hovered in the air about two feet away. Winifrey simply would have to reach out and take it, but she knew it wasn't going to be that simple.
Winifrey would simply have to take this nice and slow. She encouraged herself by thinking of it as a wild horse. The trainer would just have to be calm and confident. There was a moment of doubt as she reminded herself that this was an inanimate object. It was a broom for heaven's sake. But she bit her lip, slowly raising her hand to grab it. Slow and steady.

All For a Broom
During the day nothing felt safer than hiding in the Forest. Children and staff alike failed to wander deeper than the edge if they even went that far. The Masked Figure relaxed and usually took his naps during the day here to avoid being seen in the castle. While the mask could be hidden, sleeping felt too vulnerable for the Master to allow it in any public space like the dorms. This nap would be interrupted by children yet again breaking their rules. Was there so little discipline here? The Master awoke his puppet to make sure the disturbance did not go unpunished.
Remember the new spell we learned? Use it. The voice was firm and harsh, and not something he could resist.
A broom and a girl stood deep in these woods. It seemed she had been chasing it. Certainly was not the strangest thing he had spotted but it was up there on the list. Another was coming soon as well to follow. It seemed to be another student. Just as the girl was about to capture this broom, the masked figure lashed out.
"Bombarda." He uttered aggressively as he pointed the wand towards the girl's broom.
Red sparks flew from his wand and collided with the broom just before the girl's hand touched it. Splinters exploded out as a resounding kaboom ripped the broom to shreds. The shock wave would send Winifrey backwards, splinters likely piercing her skin but not in a life-threatening manner. The Masked Figure turned his attentions to the girl, likely just before her friend caught up if he was still coming.
That is enough for now. We do not need war with the entire school. Not yet. The voice commanded, to the Masked Figures internal relief.
A long stare towards Winifrey would endure until Reid showed up, if he was still coming. He would vanish into the woods again without a spoken word to them nor a chance for them to confront him. Another day he would return and the Master would have him do yet more deeds against his peers.

All For a Broom
Nice and Easy.
That's how it was going. That's how Winifrey had intended it to go. She would catch the broom and then bring it safely back to Hogwarts. It would be in the exact condition as when she had been given it. In fact, she might have just beat up those kids with it, seeing as they had put her through so much trouble. And it had only been like what, fifteen minutes?
But, her luck did not favor her at the moment. In fact, it seemed like the whole universe hated her today. The one day where she finally could relax and enjoy the outdoors. It was going to be great. But nope. Instead, here she was, chasing a crazed broom.
And then, as if the universe wanted to add a little spice to it, the broom exploded.
Freaking exploded!
Winifrey did not even have time to scream or gasp in surprise. Her fingertips had barely brushed against the wood when it seemed to powerfully explode, sending her off her feat. The small brunette did her best to shield her face, although several pieces of wood came through, cutting at her face. She felt one on her left cheekbone, one on her chin, and another catching her right eyebrow.
Winifrey squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the impact of the ground that was expectant to come. Several bigger pieces of wood made impact, although she was sure it was nothing major, seeing as her denim jacket was thick enough to protect her from fatal wounds. Hopefully. The breath was knocked out of her as she landed on the ground. She immediately rolled to her side, groaning in pain as she touched the tiny cuts on her face. For some reason, the stings were more prominent than the throb that was present throughout her body. The small brunette attempted to stand by getting on her knees and hands, but when she put pressure on her left arm, it seemed to flare in pain. This caused Winifrey to drop back to the ground with a painful grunt, her eyes glancing to her left arm to find a large sharp piece of wood, sticking out about three or four inches.
Her immediate response was to frown, not in pain but in disbelief. Winifrey quickly turned her head away. Maybe if she did not look at it, it would go away. But she knew that it was wishful thinking. What did she get herself into? The whole purpose of being in the forest in the first place was to get the broom and then get out. Now it was gone and she was injured. Perfect.
