Sophia was a girl on a mission, and she had everything she needed as she strode quickly into the library. Her stride was long and her gaze focused strictly ahead. She couldn't frankly bear to look at Gem - who she was dragging along with her left hand - and she would feel bad looking at Colin - who she was dragging with her right hand - if she didn't also look at the girl! It was confusing, and it was frustrating! She hated her newfound negativity toward Gem.

She pulled them both and forced them to keep up with her pace, which probably wasn't very hard given her lack of height. She pushed the door to the library open with her chest and legs, not letting go of her friends'(?) hands. Normally, the wide selection of books would make her eyes widen in wonder and she would find the time to lazily browse the shelves for most of her afternoon, especially on weekends, but this time was different. They had work to do.

She walked purposefully over to a very specific table and let go of her friends' hands.

"Alright. I sent an owl to Kim, and he's on his way, I hope," she said, doing everything she could to avoid even looking in Gem's direction. She was still mad at the girl, but she couldn't deny Gem's literary prowess, and for Colin, she'd swallow her own pride and personal grudges.

"We're here because," she began, quickly shushing and lowering her voice, "We're here because Colin has a girl problem! We're going to help him confess, and we're going to do it with poetry!"

She pulled some spare parchment and a couple muggle pens from her pocket and placed them on the table. She didn't know much about love, or poetry, but she knew that together they could figure something out and Colin could get the girl!

"Alright, so while we wait for Kim, I'd say we could scour the library for poetry books and meet back here in, I don't know, ten minutes?"

She smiled at Colin and grabbed his hand, squeezing it comfortingly. She was so, so excited for the boy she was quickly coming to see as a brother. She purposefully avoided looking anywhere near Gem, on the other hand. Part of her wanted to keep ignoring Gem, but a bigger part wanted to pull her into a hug and squeeze as tightly as she could. It was confusing, and so Sophia settled for a middle ground: she didn't ignore Gem. She just didn't directly talk to her.

Oh well. Things would work out in the end.

For now, though, they had bigger fish to fry! Namely, a certain 'Eyes of Sky!'

Colin sat and stared at the parchment and the curious quills as Sophia laid out her plan to Gem. He thought it was rather odd how Sophs had brought Gem along, only to ignore her. He looked from one to the other as Sophia was talking. He rolled his eyes.

Girls!

They're so weird! he thought. But then it struck him --- the whole reason the three of them were in the Library this afternoon was because of a girl. One in particular. He felt Sophia squeeze his hand. She was like a sister to him, and she'd taken this quest on as a sister would for her brother. He gave the girls a weak smile as they went off to look for poetry books. He still wasn't clear how they would help.

Then his attention was drawn to the parchment and quills. The quills were interesting. He'd never seen quills like them before, in fact! He poked at one carefully with his wand, just in case it was some kind of prank. Then he picked it up and examined it minutely. It was quite smooth and very plain to look at. It was warm to the touch, but not made of wood, and it was very light in the hand. His eyes widened with delight as he looked it over.

He lifted it carefully and sniffed at it. It smelled faintly of Sophia's hands and robes. He saw that it had two tiny bits of metal at either end, and one looked like a hole. That must be where the nib goes, he thought as he touched it to the parchment.

Hmff. Nothing. He looked at it closely again, stuck his tongue out a little and tasted it. Metal. Uck. The quill's shaft had no discernible taste. He tapped parts of it against his left fang. The shaft was hollow. Maybe the ink was empty?

But suddenly the bit of metal at one end depressed with a *clik!*

"Yeeep!" Colin squeaked and dropped the quill and leapt up onto the chair! Clearly this was some kind of magical quill! He sat on his haunches and noticed that a tiny nib had appeared at the end and there was a wee dibbot of ink on the parchment where he'd dropped the thing.

"Wicked!" he cried. "No wonder Sophs didn't pull out an ink bottle --- this quill has its own ink bottle!" He picked it up again and shook it gently. He could here no sound of sloshing ink from within. Powerful magic indeed!

Then he shrugged, worked his shoes and socks off and settled into the chair, one leg up on the chair and the other dangling.

He sketched a few doodles. A mouse. Some curious imaginary flowers. A waterfall guarded by a Troll. He wondered how well he could write with this magical quill. So across the top he wrote three words.

Eyes of Sky

Colin doodled some more. He drew a young werewolf crouched before a kneeling girl and her hair flowed over them both. He drew some tall trees on either side of the parchment, their leafy branches meeting under the name at the top, and there was a nest of wee chicks in one.

Eyes of Green meet Eyes of Blue and
wonders there behold!
Looking out oer isles of barren
stone that secrets hold;
Cast thy glance at eyes of blue and
riddle rune of old;
Gazing far towards island braw in
wide seas where I'm told;
Eyes of Green meet Eyes of Blue and
wonders there behold!
Colin's heart felt suddenly full, as if it would surely explode! He'd no idea where the words he wrote came from; only that in writing them his heart felt the fuller. He looked at the doodles and he recalled in his mind their meanings. Tears welled up in his eyes and spilled onto the parchment. He didn't even care if anyone saw.

He pushed the parchment away slightly and placed the curious quill down near where his tears dampened the parchment. He put his head down upon his arms folded on the table. He felt drained and ecstatic all at once.

Sophia Nelson just didn't know when to quit.

Gemima had been hovering outside the library, trying to arrange her books in her bag. But before she could even open the doors, a certain redhead came barging over and opened them for her. Said girl dragged her all the way to a table on the far side of the library. Gem reached weakly in the direction of the reading nook, as it was her intended destination, but Sophia had already made her objective clear:

"We're here because Colin has a girl problem! We're going to help him confess, and we're going to do it with poetry!"

Colin? Gemima peered over to Sophia's right, and sure enough, there stood a vaguely familiar Slytherin boy. He was dark haired and green eyed. Gemima noted his oddly jaunty kilt. She didn't know that people still wore those.

"...I'd say we could scour the library for poetry books and meet back here in, I don't know, ten minutes?" Sophia asked. She squeezed the boy's--Colin's-- hand reassuringly. She was pointedly looking anywhere but at Gemima.

The dark haired girl sniffed huffily. Why should she help out? She didn't know this boy, and Sophia seemed to be determined to keep up her half-assed cold shoulder scheme.
But she couldn't pass up a challenge to get creative. And what else did she have planned for today?

"Right. I'll go do that, then. You two have fun." she finally muttered.

Sophia had been acting this way ever since the Midspring Ball, and frankly, it was getting stale.
At first, Gem been confused, sad even. Soph had been one of her first friends at Hogwarts, after all. Gem didn't have the slightest idea what she'd done to wrong her so-called friend, but she knew that two could play at that game. If this was what Sophia wanted, then so be it. Gemima could hold a grudge, too!

She was about to stalk off in the direction of the poetry shelf, but then there was a sudden
--"Yeeep!"-- from behind her.
Gemima sighed, and turned round to see Colin jumping away from the pens on the table, as if they'd burned him. She watched bemusedly as the boy crept back over and began inspecting the ballpoint pen, like a monkey with a banana.

"Wicked!" he cried.
Gem's eyes widened as Colin removed his shoes and socks, then draped himself over a chair. Now this was interesting! She inched back over to look over his shoulder.

"These are really good!" She exclaimed. Whorls of ink shaped themselves into intricate drawings: trees, birds, and--she squinted at the parchment-- was that a werewolf?
"Do you draw often?" Gemima wondered aloud. "I have a sketchbook myself, but I don't think I'm as skilled as you."
Colin furiously scrawled swoopy letters onto the paper. So he could write, too! Ever the bookworm, Gem thought the impromptu poem sounded truly whimsical. It read like something out of an actual fairytale. She hadn't tried her hand at poetry, herself, but maybe after today, she'd sit down somewhere and just write.

Thunk.

Gemima snapped out of her reverie to see Colin slumped over, arms folded over his face. Was he...crying?
"Uh..." She anxiously looked over at Sophia, forgetting their strange feud for a moment.
" Is he all right?" she asked, and then bent over the crumpled heap on the table, "Excuse me, are you all right?"

Kim had received an owl.

From Sophia. It stated that he needed to come to the library as soon as possible.

This was most likely relating to what they'd discussed earlier about helping Colin make a good impression on his Eyes of Sky girl. Kim was wearing a black shirt and navy pants, along with a black leather jacket. The tall boy's pink hair contrasted with the outfit he wore. A sigh escaped his lips as he thought about the most recent events that had taken place. There were too many things to think about nowadays. And the open doors to the library came into sight.

He pushed them open and went inside to search for some sign of his friends. Ah, there they were. Kim noticed Colin with his head down on his arms, looking as if he was either asleep or embarrassed from his posture. At least from a distance that is. And then Precious was seen nearby but Sophia was nowhere to be seen at the moment. Kim wondered where she was. Upon seeing the girl who had been his date to the ball, he came over to her. "Yo, Precious."

Kim said and leaned over to kiss her on the forehead and drew back again. It wasn't the first time he'd done this and probably wouldn't be the last. Gem seemed to like it too, at least she had the last time. So it stood to reason that she'd like it a second time too. For Kim, it was just a greeting, just as the French tended to kiss someone's cheeks when they first met them. It showed that he felt close to them, at least it was what he thought inside his mind at any rate.

He would have done this to Sophia too, but from all her previous reactions to him even getting close to her, Kim didn't think she would appreciate such an action. Even if it didn't mean anything intimate. And he didn't want to upset her by trying to do so. The last thing he wanted to be called was a deviant again, even though Sophia had promised not to call him that again. Kim still had trust issues from the times he'd been burned in the past by others.

Come to think of it, he still needed to figure out how Sophia felt about him.

Without actually asking her those exact words.

After all, Kim didn't want to imply that he liked her in that way, when he didn't, and thus confuse her more. Maybe he could ask Colin, who she seemed friendly with, for help in finding out more about Sophia's feelings. Glancing over at Colin, Kim let his eyes flicker over him for a few moments. "So, Colin. How are things going for you?" He asked, curious. It was around this time that he noticed a few sketches he'd done. The mouse was quite nice.

And the waterfall was beautiful. Those two were his favorites. "I like the mouse." Kim remarked. "I've sketched some of those types of things too." He told Colin with a faint smile. There were various things he'd drawn before. Kim was the sort who was very artistic by nature and had tons of sketchbooks, paintings and other things stored inside his trunk in his dorm room. He'd even done some work for other students too, such as Vienna, a Slytherin.

"So where's Sophia?" Kim asked, glancing around them.

"Right. I'll go do that, then. You two have fun." Gemima said coldly at Sophia's suggestion of searching for poetry books.

Sophia knew it was her own fault that Gem had responded like that. After all, she'd been treating the girl rather harshly since the Ball, and for no good reason at that! But she just couldn't help it. Though her anger at seeing Gem dancing with Kim had faded a month ago, there was something about the girl that made every instinct of Sophia's scream for her to keep her distance. To run and never look back.

Sophia either didn't understand it, or didn't want to understand it, for fear of what she was feeling meant. Instead, Sophia focused her effort on being distant from Gem, only talking to her when necessary and trying to avoid her in the corridors, much like when they'd first met and the awkwardness following their first hug was still fresh.

Even so, Gem's response hurt. A lot.

Sophia tried to ignore her own turmoil, but couldn't quite manage it. So, instead she stormed off to look for poetry books. Hopefully she'd find something good for them to reference, but she wasn't very familiar with poetry anyway. All she managed after a few minutes of searching was a stupid musty collection of T.S. Elliot's poetry. (She didn't have a problem with T.S. Elliot, but she was in a bad mood, so he was as good a target for her ire as anyone.)

She began the return to their table, almost sheepishly, with a single lone book in hand.

She grinned when she noticed Colin experimenting with her muggle pens. It was so stunningly adorable that she didn't know what to do but squeal in joy. Watching Colin becoming fascinated with things that she, as a muggle, took for granted every day was a nice reminder that both groups could learn so much from each other. She'd certainly learned a lot from the wizarding community.

"...and there go his shoes," Sophia muttered to herself in amusement. She could watch Colin in his natural habitat for hours. He really was like an adorable puppy. She had to fight the urge to scratch behind his ears, but, despite their distance, she really did care what Gem thought of her, so she couldn't let herself loose like that. Maybe later.

Colin was sketching and even doing a bit of writing. Sophia hadn't quite reached the table yet, but just seeing her friends enjoying each others' company was nice.

Despite inviting him, Sophia was actually surprised when Kim arrived. He had amazing timing, that was for sure. She started to dash the rest of the way to the table, shouting Kim's name in greeting, but she stopped dead in her tracks as the boy kissed Gem on the forehead. That womanizer! Sophia's smile fell from her face and morphed into a blank glare.

Sophia's anger was postponed as Colin collapsed onto the table in a heap of tears. She sprinted over to the table as fast as her short legs could carry her and focused all of her attention on the boy.

"Uh... Is he alright?" Gem asked in concern, any trace of former coldness gone. Sophia ignored her.

...instead, she focused on wrapping her arms around Colin in a tight hug, resting his head on his chest, and humming soothingly to the boy. As she hummed an old nursery rhyme her Mom would often sing to her as a kid, she gently rubbed Colin's hair with her left hand.

"It'll all be okay, Colin," she promised, "Your heart is just too full of feelings. It's okay to let them out. I'm here for you."

“Yo, Precious!”

Gemima froze. She’d know that voice anywhere. Her heartbeat sped up, and a swarm of butterflies burst to life in her stomach. Ever since the ball, she had started feeling out of sorts whenever he was near.

She whirled around just in time to feel Kim’s soft lips gently press onto her forehead. This wasn't the first time he had greeted her in such a manner, but it never failed to fluster her. Maybe it didn't affect Kim as much, but on her end, sparks were starting to fly despite her best wishes. It took all her strength not to faint on the spot.

Instead she smiled weakly at him. “Hi, Kim.”
Gem watched as the Gryffindor looked over at the other people in the vicinity. He said hello to Colin, and complimented him on the poem's sketches. "I've sketched some of those types of things too." Kim remarked.

Beside him, Gemima's traitorous heart leapt into her throat. Kim likes to sketch as well?
She looked down at her shoes and bit her lip, eyes shining. Who knew that they had that in common? Maybe she could show him her sketchbook sometime. Maybe they could even draw together. Her imagination went into a frenzy at that, and she found herself blushing bright pink.

What's with me today??

"So where's Sophia?" Kim asked. He glanced around expectantly.
Gemima puffed out a breath, and tried to calm her speeding heartbeat. She took a deep breath and loosened the grip that her hands had on the fabric of her dress. Right! They were all gathered here for a reason. She quirked a brow, and followed Kim's gaze around the room. Where was Sophia?

As if on cue, Sophia herself came barreling past them.
Gemima's brain finally seemed to step back into action, and she unconsciously narrowed her eyes as the redhead rushed over to Colin, who was still flat against the table.
Sophia wrapped herself around the sniffling boy. She carefully stroked a hand through his hair, and Gem caught a melody slipping past her lips, along with loving words of reassurance.

She felt quite awkward all of a sudden. Her fists bunched up in her skirt again. The moment felt intimate, treasured. It was as if she was an outsider to a private event between two dear friends.
Part of Gem wanted to leave, since Sophia and Colin obviously had the poetry, and things beyond it handled here, but she also felt sad, and even a little jealous.
Would Sophia do the same for her? They'd been growing as close over the past few months, and part of her wondered if their friendship was gone for good.

Kim looked over as Sophia shouted out his name.

This was a library, she should have remembered this and been a little quieter!

Hopefully, the librarian wouldn't end up chastising her for being too loud when others were studying inside. Kim was just in time to see Sophia directly before she whirled past them. And wrapped her arms around Colin out of nowhere. The tall pink haired boy's eyes widened at the action. This was quite surprising to him. Sophia wasn't the type to get all intimate like this, at least not to his knowledge. The fact that she was doing so to someone else right here...

Especially another boy, well it made him wonder. Maybe he'd been all wrong about his suspicions. Perhaps Sophia didn't like him after all and was into Colin. Kim was glad he hadn't confronted Sophia about her 'feelings' for him because it seemed as if he'd been totally off about it. At least now he could be spared the embarrassment of what could have happened had he assumed otherwise. Kim glanced over at Gem who seemed to feel a little bit awkward.

But she wasn't the only one.

Kim leaned over to whisper something into Gem's ear, keeping his eyes on the 'couple'.

"Okay, Precious. Let's give them some space. We should go take a look at some books until they're done." He told her and draped his arm over her shoulder to steer her away from the two. Once they'd disappeared behind a shelf of books, Kim took his arm off and smiled at her. "So. We haven't spent much time together over the past few days. Want to remedy that?" Kim asked as he regarded the girl who had been his date.

Colin was only vaguely aware of voices around him, nearby. No surprise there, after all this was the Library and kids were bound to show up, even on a Saturday. And suddenly, he heard nothing. No sounds of speech, no thumping of books; just the sound of waves upon the deep Ocean and the crashing surf on stony shore. The cries of sea birds were in his ears and the aroma of the sea was in his nose. He felt a presence near him. He knew it was her. Her presence was both comforting and uplifting. They joined hands and took wing over the wide waters and everywhere they went they saw wonders! They saw places that were on no ordinary map --- the places of each other's imagination, and those places were many indeed! The effort he'd put into his drawings and poetry was curiously draining. It's not like he'd never written before. Stories, and of course homework; and he could write those for as long as required; but this felt so different! He remembered tears. He remembered collapsing to the table.

Colin's heart pounded: and the sound of the deep ocean was in his ears, and vision of blue eyes was before his own of green.

It wasn't until some moments passed when he realised that voices spoke nearby. Not her voice.

Do you draw often?
Is he alright?
Uh... Is he alright?
I like the mouse.
Do you draw often?
Is he alright?
I'm as skilled as you.
Is he alright?
Colin?
I'm as skilled as you.
Is he alright?
Colin?

It felt like all the energy, all the feeling, all the --- everything --- he had in his body, his mind, his spirit and his soul went into each stroke of the quill! Each letter, each word was focused on her. Each was a labour of love.

Eyes of Sky.

He began to pant and his mouth was suddenly dry. She wasn't just a friend. Well, Jarael is a friend! She's brilliant and smart and really cool to be with! But ---

Eyes of Sky

She was much more. Did Colin dare hope for more? Sophia had gotten him through the panic and anxiety and terror of just facing the truth --- did he --- love Jarael? A month ago, she was a great friend and girls were ewwwww! And now ---

Eyes of Sky

Colin's whole world was thrown upside down! Most of his friends were girls! Would he have to give up those friendships? And what about Sophia? She was his friend, too. Well, Sophia was practically his sister --- no, Sophia was his sister. And he her brother. By choice and by oath.

And suddenly someone grabbed him. Funny how he didn't startle or snarl like he often did. He knew it was Sophia, and he recognised her intense embrace. He hoped that, perhaps, some day soon, another girl would embrace him so intensely! She stroked his hair and sang to him softly. He remembered how Moira used to do this when he was a wee bairn. And now his new sister had taken over.

Colin drew several deep ragged breaths as he rose up out of the deep Ocean of trance and ensorcellment. He reached around Sophia's neck and returned her embrace, the hot tears streaming down his red cheeks. He could see Kim and another girl. Gem. His voice was hoarse and he whispered into Sophia's ear: "What happened, Sophs? I was messing around with that magic quill of yours and --- and then --- and n-now ---"

"This is my penmanship, Soph," he said as he drew the parchment closer. "But I don't remember where the words came from! I just felt like I was being ripped open and words and images spilled out. I don't think I wrote anything worthwhile. Not worthy of Eyes of Sky --- of Jarael."

Colin buried his face into Sophia's shoulder and she let his tears flow where they would.

Gemima was suddenly aware of Kim's arm around her shoulder, and his breath in her ear.
"Okay, Precious," He whispered. Gem froze.

Precious? Oh, Merlin--right, that's me.

"Let's give them some space. We should go take a look at some books until they're done."
She found herself nodding. Her mouth felt extremely dry."S-sure."

Gemima let Kim lead her into the Charms section. Once they were behind a shelf, he released her. She could still feel his warmth lingering across her skin. Her cheeks burned brilliantly bright at this, and she fixed her gaze pointedly on a couple of books to Kim's left.

What was happening? She was acting like Cath did when she had a--

Crush?

Was this--
Did she--?

Did she have a crush on Kim?

No! I can't possibly.

Kim was just a friend, and he would remain just a friend. He had to, or else things would get too messy and complicated. Her older sister was living proof of how bloody confusing romantic entanglements could be.

Besides, she thought bitterly, He likes that Felix.
Images of the stupid degenerate flashed through her mind. She normally wasn't one for violence, preferring to settle things peacefully, but Merlin, how she wished she could just give him one good punch.

Gemima took a deep breath. It's nothing. I'll be back to normal in no time! She'd overcome emotions before, and she could for sure do it again, right?

Gem's gaze lingered on one of the book titles: The Witches' Guide to Love! How To Charm The Pants Off of Your Sweetheart. She swallowed and puffed out her cheeks in frustration. Even her sanctuary, the library, was against her.

"So. We haven't spent much time together over the past few days," Kim said, disturbing her internal crisis. "Want to remedy that?" There he went again, with his flirtatious ways. It was this sort of nonsense that had landed her in this mess in the first place!

But all Gemima could focus on was how his hair caught the light, and how his beautiful blue eyes twinkled with mischief and charm.

"R-right, we haven't." she breathed. "Sorry...about that, uh, I've been busy."
She nervously twiddled her fingers together. This was going just wonderfully! What was she supposed to talk about?

Sophia didn't let go of Colin, even for a second, as she helped him through his panic attack. She'd only seen him close to this bad once, and that was when he'd made his confession to her. The poor boy had so much pain inside. He deserved someone to be there for him as he worked through it.

She lifted her hand from his hair and scratched behind his ears gently. She cooed, "Don't worry, Colin. This poem is beautiful, and I'm positive Jarael will love it, but if you aren't comfortable with it, we can write another one. And another. And another. And another. We have all day."

She smiled comfortingly at her older brother figured and continued to scratch behind his ears. She knew he loved it, and it was a joy for her to do so.

As she continued to hold Colin in her arms in the best possible hug she could manage, she saw Kim and Gem escaping behind a bookcase out of the corner of her eyes. She was disgusted by that, but she didn't let her smile fall. She loved Colin more than she was angry at them. Still, they would need to come back if they were going to work together for a poem for Jarael.

Sophia didn't let any warmth into her voice as she called out to her other two friends.

"Yo. You two coming, or not?" she called out shortly. She didn't even bother looking to see if they were coming. Instead she focused on gently keeping some contact with Colin as she pulled away from the hug. One of her hands was still scratching his ear, but she used the other one to pull a chair beside his. She scooted the chair as close to his as possible, making sure she was sitting close to her brother-figure.

"Do you think you're feeling up for another one? We can help you all that you need," she said with a patient smile, "If not, that's totally fine. This poem is amazing. We're here to help you through this, Collie, so whatever you think is absolutely fine."
