FearlessIt was not the first time Opeila was hosting an event, no, in fact she had become quite popular for this particular hobby of hers. Last year there had been a snowball fight in Hogsmeade, then there was the occasional get together, but this event- this was special. In her first year, Opeila had hosted the Slytherin Dormbattle for the first time, as a pillow fight in the Slytherin Common Room. It had been quite a fun few hours, at least for most of the participants.
The second year event had been more challenging for the young Slytherin. Hours and hours of coming up with riddles for her housemates to solve, but all the effort had paid off too. Opeila was satisfied with how the event turned out. Working together with Evelynn Decipio to offer the Scavenger Hunt to both Gryffindor and Slytherin had also been an interesting experience for sure.
This year, she was on her own again and she had prepared something new- escape rooms, which was decided by a majority vote. And it would be the last time Opeila would set up any type of riddle for this event. Her head felt empty, coming up with new riddles once again had been challenging and she was quite sure that the final result was not really fair, but at the same time not mathematically comparable.
And the final touch was this one- the fight of the champions. Opeila had not told any of the teams what the champions would be needed for, but perhaps all of them had a feeling that this task would need a more experienced participant. And here the three of them were, Cash, who was her dormmate, Leonard, a positively familiar face and Dan Palmer, whom she was fairly alright with at this point.
Opeila cleared her throat. "Hi! So, um, you are the champions, your teams picked. You are also the reason, why I warned everyone of potentially having to participate in duelling like activities. Because you will. While your teams figure out the escape rooms, you are their timers. That means, if one of you is down, the team of that person is as well. Understood? Good. Right, only one more thing- Please, try not to seriously harm each other."
OOC Note: You are OOC welcome to assist your teams to solve the escape rooms. You are only not IC present, that is all.Welcome to the third Dormbattle!
You have a special task in this one. As I explained IC already, you are the timers of your teams. This works like a threeway duel, so cast away!
After every modpost you have 120 hours to post, if you miss the deadline that results in a missed chance to cast a spell.
Please owl me your actions every round (name the topic of the owl "Dormbattle Actions", so they all go straight into a folder) and have fun!

The Battle of Champions

Another dorm battle. And this one was to be an escape room challenge!
Depressed as Dan had been since Christmas Break ended, He was actually rather excited about this. He'd never tried an escape room before, but had always wondered if he would be any good at it.
The teams were selected, and it was set to begin. The team he was on selected him as their champion. Not a major surprise; Dan had more years than the rest of his team.
But, to Dan's crushing disappointment, Opeila had announced that the Champions would not be participating in the escape rooms. At all. Instead, they were to duel each other.
Dan had tried to hide his immeasurable disappointment from his face, and had no idea if he had been successful. He had been looking forward to this to bring him out of his depression for a little while, and now he was just dueling other people.
He entered the Dueling club, bare feet silently padding along, holding his Hornbeam wood and Dragon Heartstring wand in hand.
A consolation for this turn of events is that he remembered Ollivander telling him that this wand was made for dueling, and had often felt guilty that he was Quidditch Captain. As if he was robbing the wand of what it would most like to do.
It sounded stupid, and Dan was aware of that. The wand is a wand. Not a person. But he still felt it. So now, he could give the wand what it was good at, if only briefly.
As he did with Quidditch, Dan very soon concocted a strategy, with far more ease in fact. Turns out when you only have to manage yourself and not a whole team, strategizing was far easier.
He then prepared to cast his first spell.
Doing as strategized.

The Battle of Champions
Dialogue Hex: #143314As far as the coward himself was aware, Leonard had not any particular portion of his reputation dedicated to courage. He was wholly unsure of what to make of his reputation in the first place, if he had any such thing and wasn’t a spirit deluding himself and others to be existent as he gradually came to terms with his apparent lack of life, but he did know that preventing himself from admitting his faults didn’t make them any less axiomatic. His liver was made of lilies, a part of his supposedly meant to be a 17th-century throne of bravery becoming nothing more than a flimsy cushion in which he would sit for a millisecond before unpromptedly complaining about the dangers of loose threads and coloured fabric. By the time morning came around and he’d slept nothing more than a half-wink, his liver was most definitely made of lilies as he walked about the castle and scanned every textbook he could to build a blueprint of cohesive thought.
The young-but-not-young-enough-to-be-an-excuse-for-failure Slytherin’s emotions were best likened to a bag of trail mix that had been smashed, bashed, and mixed further for a few hundred millennia as he made his way to the Duelling Club. All that reached his ears and stayed there long enough to were the self-concocted comments of his teammates, their voices playing a role Leonard knew they hadn’t really been doing. He objectively knew that she hadn’t made such disgraceful digs at his attire, that he hadn’t secretly put an explosive in Merlin’s feeding area that would go off the second he lost the round, but he most certainly felt like he was going to faint with zero encouragement from whatever arcane tricks the other champions. Quite frankly, he felt more like the living embodiment of a participation award than someone who the label of champion could be applied to whatsoever, but he had to trust that at least a whiff of his intellectualism would be enough to get his given group through the vast majority of the escape room.
“Hi.” It would barely take a glance to glean the stilts his smile awkwardly lifted itself on, all his practised elegance disappearing the moment. It was an embarrassing display of how little he was truly prepared, really, especially in front of none other than a Quidditch player whose sporting career had to rely on avoiding a level of clumsiness that would cause one to be knocked right off their broom. Yet, there were no second first impressions, so he took his time not to charm the nonexistent audience, but to try and jinx the chances of the other two teams Opeila had formed for them. If they magically found his nervousness to be endearing to a degree that compelled them to quit entirely and gave his team the win on a technicality, he wouldn’t be complaining either.Action: Doing as strategised.

Cash take 25 Dmg and is bound for one round.Once Opeila gave the three Dormbattle Champion the sign to begin- and quickly removed herself from the battlefield- the two boys didn't lose any time to shoot their first spells. Only Cash didn't seem to be sure immediately what they wanted to do, so they didn't join the fight right away. Leonard and Dan also seemed to have different strategies.
Leonard raised his wand and conjured, without any difficulties, a cloud of smoke that engulfed all three Slytherins. For the two third years that was perhaps an improvement as the situation put Dan, the upperclassman, at a disadvantage- he couldn't see through the thick smoke any better than the two of them could. But maybe it was that what ended up being Cash's downfall.
A spell that was meant for Leonard, a Body-Bind Curse, missed the boy by far and instead hit Cash, barely, but it did. The young Slytherin would be knocked over by a spell, but since it was not a very strong one, it would not keep her down for long, surely.
Maybe one thing was good- neither of the three champions were duellists. Two of them were Quidditch Players, perhaps that had sharpened their senses which was surely useful in the cloud of smoke, but none of them had longterm duelling experience.

The Battle of Champions
Dan waved his hand in front of his face, realizing after a few seconds that it was pointless to try.
Really? The Smokescreen? THATS what ye went with?! Come on!"
As irritating as it was, that spell seemed to prove effective. Dan almost panicked and fired completely blind, hoping he hit something. Judging by the sound, he did.
Dan had to contemplate his next move for a moment. It was VERY difficult to see with this smoke everywhere. But, he had a team to support. If he was the timer for his team, he would need to buy as much time as he could manage.
He heard that duel rules dictate that petrified people cant be targeted. That was... well it was completely fair, but Dan didnt have to like it. But, bringing it to a one on one for a bit was helpful, even if it wouldnt last.
He could only hope his team was proficient with escape rooms. The disappointment of not being able to be in it directly was still fresh, but he was not going to let it get to him. He had a duel to win. There would be time later to live vicariously through his teammates.

The smoke was thick and blinding, but if one was experience in relying on other senses, it wasn't that much of a problem. Duellists tended to be taught this lesson quickly- did Quidditch players too?
Despite his obvious annoyance, Dan moved through the smoke, reacting to the inevitable noise his opponents made and eventually cast a spell.
Yes the smoke was irritating, yes, it made it very hard to aim and gave the two third years a place to hide- well, Cash was still on the ground, the body binding spell was only beginning to break now- but it also made it hard for Leonard to evade the fire spell that suddenly lit up his clothes, burning the fabric with ease.
It was a well cast spell, strong and surely long lasting, the flames did not seem likely to go out on their own any time soon. If Leonard wanted to stay hidden, not to mention not to get burned, the third year would possibly have to help it a little. After all, the fire made it quite easy for both of the others to locate him in the smoke.
The smoke seemed to become thinner anyway, only a few moments and the three champions would be facing each other again.

The Battle of Champions
Dan smirked when he heard the yelps of pain from his opponent. Leonard was hit with his flames, and likely on fire.
While Dan didnt REALLY want to hurt his house mates, he had a streak to keep alive. He had been the winner of Opeila's dormbattles every year since their inception. Dan was the champion of Dormbattles, and he was not going to easily give up his title.
Dan had a few mixed feelings though. He was glad he wasn't dueling Dmitri, as he had duel experience. But at the same time, he would have LOVED to beat that pompous, arrogant little gobshite into the ground at the sport HE was captain of. But, he wasn't. So, there was no point in dwelling on that. Instead, he needed to focus on who he WAS dueling. And focus on defeating them.
"Smokescreen's not workin' out well, is it?"
While he was unsure if wands were sentient at all, if they WERE, Dan hoped his was enjoying this. Hornbeam Wood and Dragon Heartstring were made for duels. A pity Dan was a Quidditch Captain, in that sense. But, Quidditch made him happy. And right now, Dan would use all the happy he could get.

The Battle of Champions
Dialogue Hex: #143314For every action, there was an opposite and equal reaction. The studious scientist he was, Leonard Oaksworth’s eyes had burned for many a night engraved with the words and etching in its relevant diagrams, but it seemed this particular day (and night, if he was unfortunate enough as he so very, very felt like he was) his eyes would burn for a different, even more unpleasant purpose. At the very, very least had he gained a few concrete examples of the law to present to actual law enforcements the next time they tried adding How to Siege Your Mates to the History of Magic syllabus. Leonard walked into the room with confidence, the duel started far too soon by all of his standards. Leonard conjured up a cloud of smoke, apparently someone took inspiration from that and added their own fiery flair. Leonard had taken a mere moment to relax and appreciate his efforts and take in the environment, effervescent upperclassman and Quidditch Captain supreme Dan Palmer found it an action appropriate–nay, in dire need of an equally dire reaction.
Delicately did he form an eloquent, mature response to the situation at hand. It was important, the Slytherin knew, that his composure was kept intact despite his opponents’ distinct lack of tact. Though heat licked dangerously at his arms, his chest, his precious Galleons put in the form of flowing fabric, and though there was more than the slightest sliver of a chance that it would turn to devouring his chest in its entirety, the snake had formulated a perfectly calm reply. Thus did the time come for every cell in Leonard’s shockingly well adjusted lungs to earn their place in the world, to come up with the greatest comeback of all time and make it clear that the fight was only beginning, that the chapter to his and his team’s victory had yet to cease its first paragraph. "EEEUAUUUUGHHHH!"
Okay, so perhaps his eloquent, mature response featured more than one exclamation point. Perhaps he was gasping for anything and everything that remotely resembled actual air to him at that point after cashing all of it in on a literal dead horse–well, dying horse, but if he didn’t do anything and Dan Palmer did, he was absolutely going to be beat. The hopeful heretic within him prayed his fellow third year wouldn’t follow in Palmer’s path, instead becoming a saviour, and the loquacious logician quashed such hopes with the simple fact that as the smoke thinned Cash’s silhouette didn’t quite seem battle-ready. He’d have to be the warrior of words and wandwork alike, it seemed, and he wasn’t going to EEEUAUUUUGHHHH his way through it. Most of it, anyway.
“Oh, it very much is!” Merlin knew which demon had pulled on his tongue to get that yelled out, but the snark was there nonetheless. It got the idea across, which was more than he could say for the action of EEEUAUUUUGHHHHing again.
