The butterflies in her stomach took flight when she reached out and took Howie’s proffered hand. Rosie was just as fond of Howie as he was her. Howie was her first friend since coming to Hogwarts. If she was being honest with her self, he was truly her first friend ever. He was always so kind and positive, but beyond that, he understood her. From the time he had spotted her from across the room with her pen, she knew she liked him immediately
As Rosie walked with Howie to the dance floor she chuckled. “I’ll warn you that I don’t know what I’m doing and you may be embarrassed to know me after this.” She smiled and her tone was light. “I’ll understand if you pretend you don’t know me in the halls.” Yes it was a joke, but even as she made it, she silently hoped he would refuse. Though she supposed she would understand if he stopped talking to her. She was half convinced that her own parents didn’t want her, it wasn’t a huge step to believe that a boy she had just met was just being nice.
As they reached the dance floor, she didn’t let go of his hand. Was she supposed to? She wasn’t sure, but letting go of his hand didn’t feel right, somehow. Though, if she was wrong, she was wrong and he was free to let go of her hand. She met Howie’s eyes and smiled, awaiting his next cue.

He had almost made it to the food when someone put their hand on his shoulder from behind. He had been caught. Everything was over, they were going to pair him with some stupid little girl with too much time of her hands and destroy any chance of freedom he may still have had. His initial reaction was to stab the hand, and his hand vanished inside the sleeve of his robe to retrieve a blade, but halted.
It was her voice. The voice that belonged to the person his universe swung around. Eris Fawley, Chaos-Born First-Avenger. His friend. His heart sped up just a little as he realized that he had been caught in this place by his friend, his only friend. She would probably think he was going to take part in this bizarre mating ritual the other students were putting on and mock him for his apparent weakness. Except she wouldn’t mock him. He had been weak before and she had held him, comforted him. She had been a friend, a sister. And having that kind of friend was the best feeling Kaegen knew of.
He wasn’t sure what he had been expecting, but it wasn’t this. It definitely wasn’t this. She said that he looked like he was dead on the inside. That his organs were dying as he stood there. Kaegen turned the rest of the way in a panic, looking as dead on the outside as he looked on the inside, dark rings cradling sleep deprived eyes, all set on the background of an impossibly pale face.
It wasn’t her fault, but she had been the reason the boy had been losing sleep. Eris had always been a pillar of strength and fire in the boy’s life, and he had been nothing but the proverbial mist, weak and inconsistent. Friends were supposed to be equals, and they weren’t. So he practiced, he trained and worked and studied far into the night. His little body wouldn’t let him go completely without sleep, much to his dismay. But he stayed up as late as he could go, falling asleep with his wand in his hand.
But his own exhaustion was pushed far from his mind, as was the fact that he was about to cease existing. Because Eris, the little flame of strength and might was wearing the same ridiculous floofery as the rest of them. Kaegen’s eyes widened, staring at her dress. It was impractical, floofy, hard to walk in, ridiculous, stupid. It was pure stupidity. No one of sound mind would ever put on something like that. Not even if they were forced to.
“You look stupid. Why are you wearing that?”
His eyes saw right past the dress’ grace and beauty, looking only at its practicality, its purpose. And in his eyes, it did look stupid. It looked so stupid that it shook his perception of the little red head, it shook his perception of the world. So much so that the comment about him looking dead inside didn’t even register. Her comment about how he might be about to cease living was pushed into a corner.
What was wrong with these people?

Alexander was nervous as he walked towards the ballroom. Yes he had been to dancing events like this before with his father and mother. How could he not when his father was the owner of a major regional company. But that was different, back then there were mostly normal kids, kids who didn't have the ability to curse someone into oblivion with a death stick. Well maybe Alex was over exaggerating wizards there, considering they were only in first years but the point remained. Everyone here was armed with a stick that could ben the laws of reality to it's whims and then some.
Alex breathed out slowly, it would not do to panic like this. This was just a nice ball that everyone was going to and it was no use panicking over it. Even though his paranoia was in overdrive with the large groups of people here he kept it under control. For some reason he felt like a certain person would disapprove and shout CONSTANT VIGILANCE at him though he was not sure why.
When he walked into the ballroom he could see that most people as of right now. For a moment he looked down at his clothing wondering if it was good enough for this event.
https://www.gamestop.com/collectibles/j ... n-m/154534
Alex then glanced around the room looking for anybody who he could sit and talk or dance with. He saw that most were sitting at certain tables talking with each other and looked to see if there was someone he could talk to.
Aravis Escanora
As he looked around Alex noticed that someone was siting alone. It was a girl, it was the same girl that he had partnered up with in the forbidden forest. Her name was Aravis if he could remember correctly. He then proceeded to make his way towards her, she could maybe be nice to talk to. Thus he walked towards her "Can I sit here ?" If she allowed him to do so Alex would sit next to Aravis. He would then say, only blushing a little bit as he tried his first flirt in the history of ever.
Mentally his rationality was screaming at him, saying he was an idiot and stop the question from being asked. But eventually his rationality abandoned ship as the words slipped from him mouth. "So what is a pretty girl like you doing here, sitting alone ?" Alexander said in a kind way. Being careful not to come over as rude or insulting.

Amadea wanted to hug Adam so badly at that moment, though she figured that would be awkward for both of them, so she restrained herself. But he was still her knight in shining armor. She didn't think anyone could be so possibly embarrassed for simply standing in a room full of other people, but when all of those other people knew each other, it became very awkward and embarrassing. Unfortunately, Amadea had been one of the first people that entered the ballroom.
But thankfully, Adam was here now. He had technically asked both her and Cecily to come, and Amadea had said yes (hadn't she? To be honest she couldn't quite remember since it was such a long time ago) but she hadn't known if they were all supposed to show up together or just come and wait for the others.
Amadea had been wishing they had decided to come together so she didn't have to stand awkwardly by the food table, moving every so often so she wasn't in the way of people trying to get some food. She realized she was still spacing out thinking about the traumatizing effects of social events and Adam was speaking still.
"Hi Adam!" she said, hoping she didn't sound too excited to see him. She didn't want to give off the wrong vibe. "Thank you. You look nice as well! Oh, and as for the cookie, thank you, but no thank you," she said. Glancing at it just made her stomach flip. "I'll stick with my water. I don't think I could eat anything if I wanted to," she added. "Social events aren't really my thing, and I just get really nervous around lots of people..."
She trailed off as she looked around the room. More and more people were starting to file in and even though most of them were standing and still greeting each other, Amadea noticed there were only a few tables. If they wanted to sit at all, they should claim a table before there weren't enough left. That is, if Adam wanted to sit with her. She was about to suggest something when Adam suggested the same thing.
"I was just thinking that!" Amadea said. "We should find a table now so they're not all taken." She scanned the room, looking for a table not occupied already. She spied an empty one next to the Slytherin girl she had been debating whether to talk to earlier, Syrah, and another Gryffindor who Amadea didn't recognize. She led Adam over to the table and put her water cup down on top of the tablecloth. "Is this table good?" she asked.

Natasha slowly walked into the room. She stared in awe at what greeted her. Rows of tables, the walls decorated magnificently, but the part that caught her eyes was the people. First years from all houses were scattered all over the ballroom, chatting, laughing, eating, dancing. Natasha looked to find any person who she could stick with for the night and not look awkward. Her friends were limited, so she was convinced to come to the ball to make some new ones. She was worried her outfit would be too much when she first bought the dress. The lavender color complimented her fair skin tone, and light, blonde hair. It also happened to be her favorite color as well. The gown was long and, well, very poofy. Observing the other girls around her, Natasha realized that her dress was far from too much. SHe didn't want to do much with her hair, so she just left it curly and put in a half up half down. Now she realized that doing that was a mistake. The yellow mess she called hair would be in her face throughout the evening. Not knowing anyone there, she walked to her most trusted friend - the food. That was where she would be for the rest of the night, unless someone approached her. Natasha highly doubted anyone would be interested in her, so she just stood stuffing her face.

The girl stood her sipping from her glass humming to the beat of the song as she felt a presence next to her, Turning around she saw a blonde girl standing next to her. ''O-oh thank you'' She said smiling brightly at the kind compliment ''Your hairstyle is breath taking'' She complimented back giving the girl another smile.
She looked away as she heard the girl speak once again ''Yeah, I am a Gryffindor..A Slytherin?'' She asks back ''U-uh Its not like I mind or anything its just I'' She mumbled waving her hands in front of her noticing she was being quite awkward she looked down at her shoes ''Sorry'' She managed to mutter out.
''Well anyways..Are you here alone or did you bring somebody?'' She asked her looking at more students coming in, ''I came alone actually, Didn't feel like asking somebody or being asked'' She said giving the girl a slight warm smile.
''If you wan't we can go sit next to a table? Standing in the middle of the room isn't the most great place to start a conversation'' She said letting out a small laugh covering her mouth slightly with her hand.

Odette walked inside the ballroom wearing a dark red gown with her long black hair in a simple fishtail braid. She looked at all of the young students talking, laughing, dancing. She saw her cousin, Aravis, by the food table and some other students she's met before.
Her eyebrows furrow and she bites her lip as she decides where she should sit. Seeing an open space against the wall-- and away from students she didn't know-- she walks over to it and leans against the wall. She wasn't sure if she should go over to talk to someone or ask someone to dance.
Odette's dark brown eyes watched everyone around the room. She remembered before she came to Hogwarts all the balls she had to go to with her family. The Haven-Escanora family was well-known and invited to almost every formal occasion. Odette would have rather stayed in her room and read her books than go to a ball back then.
Now though, she was kind of excited. These were people her age who would hopefully never judge her because of where she came from. She wanted to belong and hopefully meet some more people along the way. She wanted to experience something new and nerve-wracking. Which this was. It was way out of her comfort zone but she wanted to give it a chance.

Evianna tugged on her dress before entering the ballroom. Her uncle had sent it to her, saying that she needed something other than her school uniform for the event. She wasn't sure why it bothered her; maybe it was the length or the thin material that scratched her shoulders. Either way, it was slightly annoying.
Putting her annoyance aside, the redhead tightened her arm around her copy of A History of Magic and entered the large ballroom. Avoiding the groups of eleven-year-olds milling about on the dance floor, Evianna made her way toward the food table. After all, it was the only reason she was there (that and her book).
Picking up a plate, she chose a couple of cookies and a cupcake, poured herself a cup of red punch, then retreated to a chair in a relatively quiet part of the room.
She lasted about five minutes before losing interest in A History of Magic. Not that the book wasn't interesting, of course, it was just that the circus surrounding her was much more intriguing. Several girls in bright colors flew around the floor in small packs. Boys, looking as completely lost and confused as Evianna felt, hung around the outskirts of the room, although a few of them seemed to have plucked up courage enough to talk to a few girls.
The figure that interested Evianna most was a small girl with lavender-tinted hair. She seemed to have given someone a Tarantellegra curse, then stopped it immediately. She had something of a sly smile on her face, seeming to think that no one had seen her cast the spell. Evianna almost got up, but stopped. The other girl was already speaking to someone else.
On the other side of the room was a boy that Evianna recognized from her own house. The small, scarved, dark boy with tired eyes was talking to a red-headed girl that Evianna thought was a Gryffindor. She'd seen him in hallways and was slightly curious, but decided to keep her distance. Despite his size and constant state of exhaustion, she couldn't help but think there was something dangerous about the boy.
Taking another sip of punch, Evianna dropped her eyes to her book again. She wasn't sure where to go or who to talk to, so she decided to just sit and read. Hopefully she could go unnoticed by the extroverts in the room.

Aravis nodded not looking over at the person who had asked her to sit beside her. She sighed debating on what she wanted to do for the rest of the night. She almost spit out the drink when the boy called her pretty and asked what she was doing all alone. "Wait, are you- oh you mean me. Well, I'm sitting because all of my...acquaintances...are talking to other people. I'd hang out with them but... I would only make the conversations awkward. Plus my cousin, I might get in a fight with her seeing as we don't always get along." The black haired girl sighed turning towards Alexander.
Maybe she was just to shy to actually say anything to her "friends." After all, she wasn't close with any of the people she saw. She hadn't talked to Eri since Summerset and that had been years ago. Ami didn't seem to like Aravis just as much as Aravis seemed to dislike her, she assumed talking to her might result in a verbal fight anyways. And then there was Adam, Aravis wasn't exactly his friend. Seeing as she had only spoke to him a few times she didn't want to bug him due to the fact she had no friends. The few friends she did have weren't even there.
"Well most of the people I know either don't like me... or I feel like I shouldn't interrupt their conversations. After all, I mean, I hardly even know anyone." She said resting her head in her hands. She noticed someone else enter the room... her cousin Odette. Maybe she should just get up and talk to Adam or even Ami at some point. For now she would just sit and talk to Alexander

Wesley nodded, picking up his goblet of cooling cider, and taking a sleepless sip of the wonderful beverage. “I just don’t want you to feel left out, or for you to feel ‘Oh, Wes has a drink, he is such an inconsiderate person!’,” Wes said, chuckling as quietly as he could at his own remark (which he found actually quite funny). Phaedra then said how she would just settle for Pumpkin Juice. “I believe the Pumpkin Juice is all ready in goblets on the table,” he said with a smile. The girl with dark, dark hair then asked Wesley, Say, where is your brother anyway? Is he coming?
Once again, Wesley nodded. Lifting his hand, he said, “Actually, he is right over there with his boyfriend.” Right where Wesley was pointing, quite behind Phaedra, was Ian and his boyfriend, talking to Hazel Wong and Daisy Wells, who they knew from their House and from Wesley. “Golly, I’m surprised Daisy’s here in the first place!” He laughed. That was when Wes noticed that he might have been boring his date to death. “I apologise - I have never been to a dance. And I’m just really quite excited...” Wesley said to Phaedra apologetically.
