GIMME ALL YOUR CANDY! ... a thrilling surprise!

Sophia flipped through her Book of Spells, but her mind wasn't really with it. She had homework due the next morning on the Umbrella Charm, of all things, but she never had trouble with the theory behind spells. Her problems stemmed from the practical usage of the spells. She always got clumsy with her wand and messed up the wand movements, or her accent butchered her pronunciation. It was rather embarrassing. Thankfully, for her, the Professor didn't seem all that intent on testing their ability to actually cast the Umbrella Charm, but, for once, Sophia was quite confident in her ability to cast a spell. It was rather simple, like the Red and Green Sparks Charms from Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Sophia's big problem was actually the upcoming final exams. She didn't know what to even expect, but her suspicions were that the exams would include both theory and practical portions.
In classes like Potions, or Herbology, that wouldn't be a problem, but the bread and butter of the Hogwarts curriculum included actually learning to perform magic. How on God's green earth would she manage this?
"Ugh," she groaned, forgetting completely about Kim being there with her, "This is impossible! I can't even cast Flipendo right a hundred percent of the time. How the heck am I supposed to pass the exams?"
She dropped her head onto the table, closing her eyes. Maybe if she couldn't see her textbooks, the exams would never come.
Oh, who was she kidding? She was screwed.
When her eyes opened once more, they fell onto Kim's bag. As if on a timer, her belly began to growl. That was her problem. She was hungry. Maybe if she had some of his delicious candy from that day before the Ball, she could focus better? Maybe even actually learn to cast spells without messing up?
It was worth a shot. All she needed was a distraction.
"Kim, can you be a dear and find a book on American wizards overcoming incantation barriers for me?" she asked with a bat of her eyelashes. She knew that Kim loved doing things for her, and this would work for sure!

Kim had been dragged down to the library by Sophia.
It hadn't been the first time he'd been dragged somewhere and it wouldn't be the last.
But at the same time, it didn't bother him much because Kim needed to do his homework too. Transfiguration was the only subject when it came to homework that he couldn't really do well in. It was hard to explain the theory behind something in words. Kim was very good at the practical aspect and was able to cast the spells with no problems, when it came time in the classroom. But when it came to explaining in words... he failed at that particular aspect.
Sometimes students did better with the practical aspects versus the theory behind the spells. Kim was one of these. Although, he had no issues explaining things about the homework in other classes. Hell, he could even tutor other students in them. As long as it wasn't about Transfiguration. Kim glanced over at Sophia as she let out a groan beside him. Then, she started to complain about spells and Kim smirked. "I'm sure you can do it." He told her.
Kim thought for a moment.
"If you're that worried about it, you can practice on me if you want."
He suggested, not having any issue with letting Sophia try and practice the spell on him. Kim was pretty sturdy, despite the way he looked and didn't mind getting knocked around by her.
If Sophia thought it would help, he would be all for it. She could practice everything on him if she wanted to. "Ah, but don't cast any spells on me like the Sneezing Hex or the Curse of the Bogies. I'd rather not be on the receiving ends of those, if I don't have to." Kim added. He didn't like sneezing or feeling as if he had a cold, those were two things he'd rather avoid if given the chance to do so. There were many other spells out there.
Ones that Sophia could use on him to practice for their final exams. It was around this time that Sophia raised her head off the table and asked if he could find a book for her. A sigh escaped his lips as he regarded her for a moment but as she tried to bat her eyelashes at him, Kim gave up. It was obvious she wanted him to do it, probably so she didn't have to move. Eh, he'd do it for her. He didn't want to get into Transfiguration homework at the present time.
Putting it off for a few minutes was beneficial for him too.
"I'll be back." Kim told her and then got up to head over to where the books lived.

Eventually, Kim spotted the book and held out his hand, which made the book he wanted fly down off the shelf into his waiting fingers. He turned around and made his way back towards the area he'd left. Only to find Sophia going through his satchel! "Ya!" Kim exclaimed lapsing into Korean accidentally upon the sight that had met his eyes. It was a form of surprise and shock, combined with slight annoyance. He quickly grabbed his satchel back.
And set it down out of reach of the girl. "Is this a habit of yours, going through someone's things?" Kim asked, slightly annoyed with Sophia.

Kim was so sweet, offering her encouraging words as she ranted. Her confidence was still nonexistent, but just having him in her corner helped Sophia to feel like she wasn't completely doomed, so she was thankful for that.
"If you're that worried about it, you can practice on me if you want."
Sophia perked up slightly at Kim's words, but still stubbornly remained in her collapsed form on the table. Kim was being so kind to her, but her eyes were still fixated on that bag. There was food in there. She knew it. Probably candy, for that matter. She could sense it.
"I would appreciate that so very much," she said to Kim with her eyes still trained in the direction of the candy, "I'm literally worthless at casting spells. I understand all about the theory, and a lot of it - like transfiguration - is almost exactly the same as muggle science classes, but I always get tongue tied, or pronounce the spells like an American. Nothing happens! Watch!"
She sat up, readying her wand. Performing a clumsy loop, she attempted, "Lumus!"
She knew her pronunciation was completely wrong, but the 'o' sound just wouldn't come out in the incantation. It felt unnatural for her tongue to move that way.
As if picking up on her internal monologue, Sophia's wand offered what seemed like the wand version of a car's engine sputtering out.
"Oof," Sophia groaned, flopping onto the table once more, "Can't even cast the wand-lighting charm."
Sophia pouted on her own as Kim made his way to the bookshelves, knowing she was on a limited timetable. She bounced over to his bag a few chairs away, quickly beginning to rifle through Kim's belongings until she finally found what she wanted. Chocolate frogs. Tons of them.
Without even looking around for the bag's owner, Sophia began to stuff her face with the little treats, uncaring if her face was being covered in the delicious chocolate. She kept looking through Kim's bag curiously as she munched on the candy, pulling out what looked like a small magazine? Brochure? She didn't know what the word for it was, but it looked interesting!
She recognized the characters and books mentioned in it from the books her parents had bought her when she was in speech therapy to try to convince her to read more, but she never got around to actually reading them all, so the titles were only vaguely familiar.
Her studying of the mysterious paper object was interrupted by Kim's voice behind her, and the bag was ripped from her grasp and pulled away. She pouted.
"Is this a habit of yours, going through someone's things?" Kim asked in annoyance.
"I just wanted some candy," she said with a sheepish smile. She looked down and realized she was still holding the Goosebumps-themed pamphlet.
"Kim, what's this thing?" she asked with a tilt of the head, ignoring his annoyance. She was showing no regret after having gone through his bag. It wasn't like she was lying, anyway. She just wanted candy, and the chocolate on her face would probably prove that.

Kim tilted his head to the side.
There were a few books he could bring back to Sophia but he wasn't sure which was best.
So, he'd brought two of them. She could decide which one she wanted to look at, or could look at them both. However, upon coming back to the location and seeing Sophia going through his satchel, Kim lapsed into Korean briefly before continuing in English again. As the girl turned her face towards him, Kim let out a sigh upon seeing her face covered in chocolate again. She had a tendency to make this happen all the time. The boy turned to the side a bit.
And reached into the satchel to search for something, upon finding it he turned back around to face Sophia. Within his hand was a tissue and he leaned forward to wipe Sophia's mouth of the chocolate smear. Handing it to Sophia afterward, Kim nodded at the item. "Make sure you wipe your mouth from now on. You don't want to make a bad impression on others." He told her, glancing around them to ensure no one was staring at them right now.
It was then that Sophia asked him a question.
About the latest edition of the Scream that she was holding in her hands.
"Ah. That's the Scream. It's a newsletter that comes out once a month in one of the clubs I'm a member of." Kim paused for a moment, considering.
He'd just remembered Noah had wanted them to find new members for the Goosebumps Club. The tall boy looked over at Sophia and then decided, why not? "If you want, you can become a member of the Goosebumps Club. Then, you can get a free copy of the Scream each month. You can even make some money too if you submit questions or rumors each month. You interested?" Kim asked as he waited to hear.
As in waited to hear what Sophia's response would be to his offer.
"The Scream is word of mouth and is only available to club members."
"So you can't find it or get a copy unless one of the members tells you about it or they give one to you." Kim added, wondering if Sophia would join them.

Sophia felt her cheeks warm and redden from the sudden contact of the napkin, which frankly made her feel ridiculous. Why was she embarrassed from a napkin touching her face? There was no reason for it. Regardless, she couldn't stop herself from involuntarily leaning into Kim's napkin-holding hand and closing her eyes in absolute bliss. A vague thought of Kim cleaning her face like this for years to come filled her mind, but she shooed it away. She was sure she didn't have a chance with Kim, even if she somehow had the courage to confess.
"Make sure you wipe your mouth from now on. You don't want to make a bad impression on others."
"I don't care what other people think, as long as you don't mind it," she said with a boldness she'd never felt before. She turned her attention back to the newsletter in her hands, holding it up to her face to hide her deepening blush. At least she could pretend to be reading it as a cover up. Apparently, she managed to fool him, because Kim then made an offer she couldn't refuse.
"If you want, you can become a member of the Goosebumps Club. Then, you can get a free copy of the Scream each month. You can even make some money too if you submit questions or rumors each month. You interested?" he asked, and Sophia almost felt herself swoon at the thought that Kim was directly inviting her to a club.
That meant he wanted to spend time with her! She decided it would probably be best to play it 'cool', however, so she didn't let out the squeal that threatened to escape. Besides, they would likely get kicked out of the Library if she did.

Sophia's next words made him blink.
He raised a brow, surprised by her boldness. But he supposed it was for the best.
"Well, it's always good to keep in mind at least." Kim replied. Sophia's response to his offer to join the club was positive and he let his lips twitch into a faint smile. "I haven't really read any of them. But I've seen the covers of a few and looked at the summaries. You don't need to know Goosebumps well to join the club. Only have an interest in them." Kim explained. If it had been the opposite, he'd have failed it.
Since he literally knew nothing about the books except from what Noah had told him. "You can come with me to our next meeting and I can introduce you there. Sign-ups are at the club. There's a notice on the bulletin board too if you want to sign up ahead of time. But you don't need to if you come with me." Kim told Sophia. "I'll send you an owl when it's time." He said and reached out to lightly tap the homework.
The homework in front of Sophia.
"But now it's time to study. We're here to do homework, not look at stuff."
He told her sternly and let his eyes flicker down at the Scream's latest edition. "You can keep that one. I can get another from the club. Or Noah." Kim said and opened up his Transfiguration homework again. Best get the hardest one done first, so he didn't have to worry about it later on. Next would be Astronomy and then Flying afterward. The other classes were fun and easy for him, so he didn't even need to give them any special thoughts.
