Don't Cry Over Failed Homework

The feeling between tears and choking is a difficult one. For starters, your throat is all dry and right and you feel like a big rock just slipped down it. Then, your eyes are on the verge of watering, but instead you just get a dessert of warmth and red hot cheeks.
Currently, Edme was standing in the Lavatory trying not to break down over getting a P on her most recent homework exam. And, of course, it was DADA. They were never good at the class anyways, so why was the fail such a hard blow? She never took kindly to failure, especially in this school. One chance at a life of mystical, fantastical, magical living, and they could easily blow it with a few bad grades.
So, in the barren lavatory, she buried her face into two hands and tried not to let sobs echo off the cold stone bricks that were placed as walls around the room. It was frighteningly calm, almost to the point of unsteady chaos.
Tongue held to the roof of her mouth and throat aching, the anxiety turned to stress to disappointment. They prided themself on grades, so losing this bad? It was hard, to say the least. Dramatic or not, Edme was upset. More than upset, even.

Don't Cry Over Failed Homework
[quote]
Wednesday was always eventful, at least for Everly, and not in a good way. They always seemed to drag on forever, until Everly was sure she could die listening to a monotone voice drag on and the scratching of quills on paper. When it was finally over, it was like energy surged through her veins, and she was more often than not the first out the door. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy class, per se, but they always seemed to get boring after a while, especially the ones that were entirely lectures.
She'd planned to head to the Great Hall for a short, energizing snack before figuring out what she would be doing for the rest of the afternoon, deciding to stop by the lavatory first to wash her hands. When she entered the lavatory, the first thing she noticed was an eerily quiet figure. The entire lavatory felt eerie, in fact. Terrifyingly serene. Then were the tear tracks all over their face. Her steps were echoing throughout the room, the loudest sounds aside from muffled sobs, and it felt as though she were intruding.
Everly was no stranger to crying in bathrooms. She'd done it herself, had a bit of experience with it if she did say so herself. It wasn't often that she came across someone else crying, or decided to stop and try to comfort them. She was far from the most comforting person out there, but she tried to do more good than harm.
It was one of the worst feelings she'd ever felt in her entire life. It was like she'd hit rock bottom, she recalled silently. A wave of sympathy rushed through her, and she instantly felt compassionate. Shrugging her bags off her shoulder, she'd rush over next to the Ravenclaw, in a tone that was hopefully consoling to the other. "Hey, hey," Everly spoke quietly, setting a tentative hand on their shoulder. "Are you alright? What happened?"

Don't Cry Over Failed Homework

The young Ravenclaw hadn’t cried in a while. When she did cry, it seemed tears would just start spilling out, and they couldn’t do anything but let it happen. The lavatory seemed so cold. Hogwarts seemed cold.⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄
When the other person had entered the bathroom with her, they knew immediately the directions this go. Either the newcomer would awkwardly walk away, ignore Edme, or attempt to console her. Edme didn’t know which way they preferred. A hand instinctively lifted to her cheeks to wipe away salty tears.
They felt the hand on their shoulder before she saw the other person in the room. It was a Gryffindor, one Edme had only seen a few times across the room at dinner or occasionally brushing shoulders in the halls. They didn’t know the girl’s name, nor year. Just that she was here, and had asked Edme a crucial question.
The Ravenclaw stared for a moment, unsure if it was worth it to spill everything out to this practically stranger. Were they alright? In the grand scheme of things, it was just one failed homework. What on earth was she doing? They sniffled once before breaking down.
“I’m sorry, I really am.” She said quietly, wiping away the flow of clear tears, “I just had this horrible grade in one of my classes, and I thought I had done well but it was so poor and I never do poorly in this class so I-“ she breathed in sharply, “I don’t want to fail this class.”
They buried their face into her hands, trying to steady their rapid breathing and unsteady voice. It was one bad grade. What was happening to her?⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄⋄
