You Got Hufflepuff? I’m Gryffindor!
Mina stands in the Great Hall looking around for a familiar face among the sea of unfamiliar faces. She smiles when she sees Marius and congratulate’s him on getting Hufflepuff. All her friends seemed to be getting Hufflepuff, but that was no problem. She liked the Hufflepuffs, and she was slightly down about getting Gryffindor, she always thought she was more Ravenclaw than anything, her love of learning and reading being enough to get her into the house of her dreams. Even though she didn’t know she was a witch until Nate’s first instance of magic.
She sighs and looks around, she was looking forward to seeing Asia, she hadn’t seen her friend in the month leading up to Hogwarts and she was bouncing on the balls of her feet in excitement to seeing her friend. She watches other students walking past, a sea of red and gold, green and silver, blue and bronze, yellow and black. She watches scanning the Hufflepuff faces for her dear friend.
She fingers the cross at her throat, her father words filling her head, “Sweetheart, someday, you will go to a great school and you will learn the truth about the world.” Her fathers soft voice soothing and calm, “Now, settle down, let me tell you a story, one of magic and wonder.” Her fathers hand brushes her forehead, “Once upon a time. . .”
She feels the ghost of her fathers words and remembers the story he told her, about a castle full of magic, wizards and witches. She looks around and realizes, even before she knew magic was real, before she knew she was a witch, her father was telling her about Hogwarts. He was always telling her stories about magic and mystical creatures.
The last remnants of the memory fading and she looks around again and her gaze lands on her friends familiar and comforting face. Not more than three minuets had passed since she started looking for her friend, but it had felt like a lifetime. Mina squeals and rushes over, pushing through the other students, “Sorry. Coming through. Oof, sorry! Excuse me.” And she thought she ran into a professor, but she couldn’t tell, She turns and sees someone who is most certainly a professor, “I’m so sorry Professor!” The professor scolds her and she nods and when the professor walks away, Mina turns and rushes through the crowd and smothers Asia in a hug, squealing over the bustle of noise from the other students, “Asia!! Hey, how are you, why didn’t you find me on Hogwarts Express? I was waiting for you. I had to sit with someone else. Not that I minded sitting with Marius, but I was wanting to sit with you, it’s been at least a month since I last saw you, Asia.” Just like always, Mina wouldn’t stop talking until she had said everything, “So, how are you, are you happy that you got Hufflepuff? I’m Gryffindor!”

You Got Hufflepuff? I’m Gryffindor!
Surprised to see the bouncing girl in front of her, Anastasia gave a laugh and smiled, proceeding to answer her questions, ticking each of them off on her fingers. “I was not with you on the train cause — let me say this — bloody hell, there was a lot of people on that vehicle. I tried to look for you, I really did, but for some whatever reason, the train cubbies seemed to go on forever.” Asia sheepishly glanced at the other girl. “I...gave up at the 17th car or so...I'm sorry...but pushing through the crowd of kids and the endless stream of train cars is not really my cup of tea.”
Mina nodded, and Anastasia continued. "I am doing well; bit nervous, bit excited, but otherwise well; I am happy to be in Hufflepuff, but I can't say that I'm not surprised. I was expecting to be in Gryffindor, the same house as you, but hey, who am I to complain, honestly? Hufflepuff's amazing, and I trust the Sorting Hat's decision."
Anastasia proceeds to look at the magnificent Great Hall in front of her. Mina follows her gaze around the room, and the two fell into a comfortable silence and the chatter continued around them.
"So, Mina," Anastasia asked suddenly, "is there any particular class that you look forward to the most? I personally cannot wait for Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Oh!" The girl exclaimed, a thought going off in her head. "Isn't there a dueling club? Do you know how I can join? Is there a requirement I need to do? Oh, crap, I'm so excited!!"

There is no such thing as a “villain” or a “hero”. Those words are simply adjectives described by the person telling the story.

Mina smiles, “It’s no problem, Asia, I had to push and shove those kids to get to the back, and even then I had to deal with this girl’s horrible cat.” She shivers at the thought of the cat. “Anyways, I was in the back the whole time. I met a kid named Marius, he’s Hufflepuff as well, a first year. I think you should meet him. He’s like me, he says whatever without thinking, but don’t tell him I told you. He also seems to get embarrassed when he does so, or at least, saying something negative.”
“So do I but I wish I was a Ravenclaw, I mean, this is me we’re talking about, I love learning and studying.” She shakes her head, “But hey, Gryffindor is just as good.”
Mina stays relaxed in the silence and jumps slightly when Asia asks her about to dueling club, “Uh, flying class.” She pauses, thinking thoughtfully, “Uh, I’ve been here just as long as you have, so, no I don’t know.” Mina shrugs, and looks around again, gazing at the candles floating around the room in the air. She closes her eyes, the memory bubbling up.
“It was a big room, the Great Hall they called it. It was where the meals were eaten and where everyone gathered for large events and announcements. There were candles floating close to the ceiling, it was a wondrous sight.” Her father said, as he looked at her in the darkness of the room, “The boy and his friend were both in the same house, and they were eating a quick breakfast before classes. They were excited to start class at the school of their dreams, to learn magic, to learn about mythical creatures and learn to fly.” Her fathers hand brushed her forehead as he kept speaking the story of what she would eventually learn was her father’s and mothers first day at Hogwarts.
