Spectator Thread May 2022

Moderator: @Dan Palmer
Backdated: April 9
Time: 10:00 am
Weather: sunny, temperate
Note: This is back-dated so all of the foreign schools can spectate. The referee is Lazarus Plott, Headmaster of Ilvermorny. Permission to Dan Palmer to speak as him, just remember he is dramatic.
It was a temperate, mild day. The sun was shining, the sky was robin-egg blue and there was not a cloud in sight. It was uncommon for such fair weather to grace the Quidditch Pitch, inclimate weather seemed attracted to game days it would seem. The crowd had already gathered, the chatter of spectators and the idle words of the Professors that tirelessly managed them. The game was starting a bit late, the announcer was running behind. The wait would come to an end when Headmaster Lazarus Plott of Ilvermorny arrived in style. A burst of color, blue and green flame, sparks and trumpet fanfare, the man needed to be seen and until the pyrotechnics were on point, the man was not going to go onto the pitch. A known egomaniac, he was an entertainer by initial trade and his penchant for the dramatic never diminished with time.
This was the last match of the year, Ravenclaw is thus far undefeated this year with 430 points from 2 wins. They were the favorite to win this match and it was expected that they would be playing the summer game against one of the other champion schools. Their opponent Hufflepuff had not won any quidditch games this year, unlike the year previous or the year before where they were undefeated. A streak of bad luck perhaps, they would need to focus on the quaffle if they wanted to make it to the summer games but defeating the undefeated house would be an excellent consolation prize.
"Hellllooooo Quidditch Fans!" Lazarus' voice boomed. Lights flashed behind him as he swooshed his jewel-toned cape fabulously. "Are you ready to see some violent aerial acrobatics!" His voice was droned out by the cheering as a burst of purple smoke went off in front of the Ravenclaw locker doorway. Sorry about the scent, they claimed it was lavender but apparently it was pumpkin spice. The first student would breech the cloud of fall-time confection and make their way around the perimeter of the pitch followed by the next and then the next thereafter.
"First is their captain, @Cecily Quinn -- a fourth year and a first-string chaser. Followed by their co-captain, @Sylvain Wyllt -- another chaser and a third year," he would announce as the two of them got the worst of it. Well of the pumpkin spice that would linger in their hair for the next several days. This would be followed by "@River Dewlight, their star Seeker and a fourth year. She can spot just about anything they claim," he absolutely bullshitted. Yet what he said was true, they were undefeated for the season thus far and that was in part thanks to that girl's sharp eye. She would be followed by "@Aurora Ranvier" in whatever never color she was on this day presumably. "Their second-string Seeker, and second year," she was also busy with plenty of other things at the school, it was a wonder she had time to make it to the pitch. while the smoke was almost gone a burst of confetti would blast "@Aly Salinger" in the face. Multi-colored bits of paper would find their way into her hair. "A lovely third year and Ravenclaw's first-string keeper." Behind her was "@Edme Achillian" catching a mouthful of those papery bastards. "A second year and their second string keeper."
The crowd would cheer as the unnecessary confetti canons made the quidditch players look like a bowl of rainbow sprinkles. "@Lavinia Cloven" would not have her chaser-kin alongside her as she made her way onto the pitch. "A fourth year, their third first-string chaser and also one of the broom racing captains." A busy little girl. Behind her, someone that might appreciate the color but perhaps not the blast to the face, "@Winnie Harper. A second-year and second-string chaser." The crowd would applaud the team but they still had a few more to share. "@Jorah Moussa, a third-year that is known for breaking more brooms than bodies!" One of the two first string beaters. "---aaaand @Damion White," it should have been Emma Milanes as their other first string beater but she was nowhere to be found (has not posted since April 1). "Is a first-string beater in his third year, he was very recently promoted." Like *very recently*.
The Ravenclaw Team would make its way around the perimeter of the pitch, either with a lung full of colored smoke or a hair covered in confetti. "Team Ravenclaw for you!" Plott smiled and waved his hands expressively.Mod Note: @Ebony Vetra was messaged, if she is interested in taking the second string Beater spot she may. If she posts before the first round she will be eligible for a stat point if the team wins.
Then it was time for "Team Hufflepuff!" He cried and with a flourish of his hands a burst of mustard-colored smoke would go off in front of the Hufflepuff locker rooms. It smelled a lot like bananas. The badger team was the yar before last undefeated, they even took on Durmstrang to ensure their victory. A legacy some spectators might not let Hogwarts forget... The procession would start, through the thick of the smoke the team captains. "@Quinn Healy, the guy nobody could miss," the ginger looked like a construction worker more than a school aged student with his copious facial hair and massive physical presence. His broom looked like a twig between his massive legs as he broke the thick cloud of smoke. "Fifth year, team captain and if nobody could guess beater" he did not want to be on the receiving end of his bludger. Quinn was followed by a much smaller girl, she was almost missed as she emerged from the smoke. "@Ami Procoppio," he absolutely butchered the pronunciation of her surname. "Another fifth year, another beater," the house was stacked in terms of offense. Was the other team prepared for an assault?
The rest of the team would start to filter out after the first duo. The smoke still clearing but full of banana-goodness, "@Ethen Emrys, first-string Seeker with the alleged golden eye." He was a third year, odd but rather capable. "@Stanley Buttons," would follow as the buttery haze almost cleared. "A second year and second string Seeker," he continued and the crowd applauded. With that mop of hair on his head it was a wonder he saw anything but apparently he 'was good' at finding things.
A confetti cannon would go off in rapid succession. A 'fluke' this Headmaster swears. "Atlas Reid, our first string Keeper and third-year." He pointed out the girl covered in an excessive amount of confetti. Followed by "Annie Morgan, isn't she blind or something?" He commented inadvertently out loud without thinking. "AHEM, I mean fourth year and second string Keeper!" A rainfall of confetti still raining down on the girl's head. The cannons would fire off again on time for the one non-captain beater to make her way onto the pitch. Poor "@Vivian Nightshade," would get blasted with a shot of confetti and potentially make her question the sport she chose to participate in. "Our second-string beater for Hufflepuff, she is a second year." Th confetti still falling the last four would be called onto the pitch. "Serena Bowen, our third-year Chaser along with Rosie Parker, a fifth year and another first string chaser." Confetti would delicately land on their heads, almost charming. "@Howard White," was not so lucky as a fresh blast of confetti would slap the teen in his face. "AND HOGWARTS CHAMPION HOWARD WHITE!" He would announce louder than the rest. The possible corneal abrasion or lung of paper was no mistake, it was a passive0aaggressive effort of a rival headmaster messing with the other school's talent already much like they had with Durmstrang on arrival. The crowd however might not notice this as the cannons had been going off this whole time, the area smelled like a Yankee Candle Shop and there was an unhealthy amount of colorful scraps of paper around the perimeter of the pitch as the students made their traditional flight around the edges of the field. Beneath the roar of cheers (and perhaps Durmstrang boos) "@Trix DeLuca"'s name would be called. "Our last player, second string chaser for the team."
The already mildly battered or possibly smelly students would accept their accolades and find their places on the pitch. The Headmaster would make his way to the heart of the pitch and release a pair of bludgers that would rocket through the air. They seemed abnormally fast. He would also pull out the snitch, a little buzzing, golden thing and he would let the snitch take flight.
"On his mark.
Get set.
GAME ON!"

He was there early, a sack lunch under his seat. He was here to watch the game, there was Winnie also, but even if she was not there he would have been seated in anticipation of the game. He was cheering his muscular maybe-still girlfriend on. He was not wearing a mask, his hair a bit too long for his face was brushed to the side and his pale features were already starting to burn in the sunlight. Dhampirs have nothing on redheads.
He would pull a bottle of pumpkin juice from the sack and take a long sip. The day was unseasonably warm, he preferred the dreary weather that usually accompanied quidditch days. As the Quidditch players started to make their way onto the pitch he would cheer for the players. The confetti and smoke was certainly new as was the resultant chaos.
He was happy to be here, not just for the diversion and the opportunity to worm back into Winnie's good-graces. The reporters had been relentless in their voyage for 'truth.' Undermining one another and trying to 'get that exclusive' when all he was willing to give was canned answers and basic platitudes. The Champion was now that first year, he was going to get slaughtered but the other schools were favorably stacked enough. There were only a few schools that would prove to be an embarrassment if they won, one of which being Hogwarts.

Making her way to the Quidditch Pitch, Evelynn couldn't help feel that perhaps she was doing herself an injustice by attending that morning's game. Her own team was slated to fly that afternoon in what would mark the final, and decisive, match of the season. But she knew it wouldn't do her any good. There was no way she would be able to stay focused on any last hour practicing in the training pitch with this game raging on; not to mention their strategy would depend on the outcome of this game. If Ravenclaw won, the best they could really hope for would be to steal second place from Slytherin. But if Hufflepuff won.. they might have a chance. A slim chance, admittedly, but a chance nonetheless.
She just wouldn't be able to rest easy without that final, critical, piece of knowledge. Furthermore, she would rationalize to herself when the guilt of inaction began to rear its head, there was no use tiring herself out before the game. Win or lose, whatever the outcome of this first game between badger and eagle, she would need every ounce of strength and energy reserve if she had any hope of keeping their streak of Slytherin defeat.
With unhurried but purposeful steps, she would make her way to the stands. Her attire today was nothing particularly noteworthy. A patterned skirt would fall to her knees into which she had tucked a tidily pressed and fitted white blouse. Her legs bore black leggings that disappeared into her usual leather riding boots. Into them, she had tucked her wand as had become her custom. A simple gold chain necklace fell about her neck, with a petite gold watch with leather strap at her right wrist. A leather bookbag hung over her shoulder, swaying slightly as she sidled herself into a front row seat on one of the stands.
Setting her back to the bench, she got to work right away. Out from its interior, she pulled quite a number of things that had no business fitting into what should have been a rather confined space. Journal and pen were set to the bench beside the bag. Omnioculars soon followed to be placed next to them. Then a box wrapped in a napkin tied into a knot at its top—food pilfered from the Great Hall's breakfast by the smell of bacon and pastry. And then came a roll of paper. A rather long roll of paper. One that was at least three times the depth of the bag itself. Her wand was soon pulled inconspicuously from its place of hiding in the inside seam of her right boot.
"Epoximise," came the quiet utterance as she held the long roll against the outside of the balcony rails.
First one corner, and then the other, she would repeat the incantation as she unfurled the roll to reveal the long banner she had made (by hand and in her own scrawl), and adhering it in place. This was her chance to try to make amends, she had decided. Her friendship with Ami had been made rocky over the summer, something she had very much regretted. Quidditch had been the source of that, and she hoped Quidditch would prove to be the balm. Even had it not been for the curiosity that had driven her to spectate, the prefect still would have made an appearance in order to support who she had once held to be a friend.
And as the announcements began, Evelynn would quickly find her seat, pulling the journal open on her lap and the omnioculars to her face. Most of the names would elicit little reaction from her other than the odd nod of acknowledgement towards those respected and tenured players who had proven challenging to face in the past. Of Ravenclaw, Quinn, Dewlight, and Moussa in particular received this reaction. They were terrifying opponents in their own rights had had ultimately decimated Gryffindor in their last game. Something she hoped never to be repeated. And of Hufflepuff, there was no denying the subtle stiffening in her posture with the announcements of Healy, Procoppio and White who prove time and again to be a terrifying offense. Easily the most intimidating across all the teams.
Still, it was with the announcement of Procoppio that the girl's attention had been captured. The omnioculars would swivel to the Hufflepuff locker room doorway, waiting for the buff badger beater to make her appearance.

Time had gone by so fast!
It was so unfair! Their time had felt so short at Hogwarts and tomorrow they would return.
Hiro felt like pouting a little. He hadn't met everyone at Hogwarts or the other schools yet. But perhaps he could do so later on during the summer camp and Hexwizard Tournament.
Right, Hogwarts. That reminded him, one student had stood out for him. Winnie Harper. He still needed to return her beautiful pink dress to her. Hiro had kept it back then because he'd felt bad about it getting ripped while he'd worn it. Even though it hadn't been his fault, he still felt responsible. So he'd tried to fix it on his own, only to have Akira try and fix it himself. The two had bickered back and forth until finally Hiro had submitted to him and let him fix it up.
Someone had overheard them at the time and had mentioned to their friend that they sounded like an old couple. But fortunately, they had been out of hearing range at the time. Or who knows how Akira might have reacted to those words. So now, in the present time, Hiro was out looking for Winnie. It was the last day he'd spend at Hogwarts for awhile. Therefore, it had to be today that he returned the dress. Or it would be going home with him.
Eventually, he managed to track down her location.
She was participating in a Quidditch match! Hiro got all excited upon learning about this.
He loved Quidditch and felt as if this was the perfect send-off for the visiting schools. Hiro placed the dress carefully into a cheap satchel he'd found that he could give to Winnie. And then, he picked up his own satchel and packed a bunch of food inside it, along with some sweets. Putting the straps of both bags over his shoulder, Hiro headed for the pitch. When he arrived, it was almost time to start the match. He heard a familiar voice announcing them all.
It was Lazarus Plott from the ball. There was great fanfare and colored smoke that smelled suspiciously of pumpkin spice. Yes, the air was carrying the scent towards them. At least where Hiro was. As Lazarus continued to announce the members, Hiro glanced around at the spectator stands. He didn't recognize any of the names, so best use this time to find a seat. And that was when his eyes fell upon a rare sight right here. Not only rare but extremely rare.
Mathias was there.
With no mask on. And he seemed to be in a good mood, going from his body language.
Could he possibly have come for Winnie? Hiro couldn't help but grin at the thought. So he'd been right all along and Mathias did have feelings for her. Feelings he kept trying to deny in vocal terms but could not hide from forever. Hiro quickly headed over to where his roommate sat and let the two bags fall from his shoulders. The pink haired boy dropped down behind Mathias. "You come to cheer your girlfriend on?" He asked with a grin and looked up.
Winnie had come onto the scene and Hiro raised a hand to wave at her. "She's showing her love to you, Hia!" He said, giving Mathias a nickname, using part of his first name. "I'm glad you two seem to be trying to make up. You guys deserve some happiness." Hiro told him and reached up to hold his hands above Mathias, giving him some partial shade from the sun. But soon he grew tired and leaned down to open his satchel.
Hiro lifted out a small pink hand-towel and took out his wand. Raising it and pointing it at the material, Hiro focused and gave his wand a swish and a flick. "Wingardium Leviosa!" He said and the hand-towel fluttered up into the air, hovering just above Mathias's head. It effectively blocked out the sunlight and gave him some much needed shade. "You look good without your mask on, Hia. You should be like this more often." Hiro said.
He glanced down at Mathias.
The boy had a bottle of pumpkin juice in his hands, which looked quite refreshing.
But where was his food? Or for that matter, snacks? "You bring anything to eat?" Hiro asked, curious. It wasn't lunch yet but you could eat food whenever.

Even though Hufflepuff had not performed the best that academic year, Marius nevertheless felt enthusiastic for this match. He had set his heart on watching it and cheering for his house no matter what - well, all right, as long as the weather was good. In spite of his interests in Quidditch, he was not some crazy fan who was willing to get soaked in the rain just for the sake of either watching a live match or cheering on a favourite team. Or both.
Today was sunny though, so Marius came. But it was not a warm day, and he had to put on a jacket - and of course, his Hufflepuff-themed scarf that was not only warm but also screamed, "Go, Hufflepuff!"
As he joined the other spectators, the first year caught a glimpse of a familiar, yet at the same time unknown, redhead. Marius immediately recognised her as Evelynn Decipio, the co-captain of the Gryffindor team. While the two had never talked, he knew her face well enough from the matches he had watched. He figured that this would be a very good chance to get acquainted with the third year; maybe he could even get more tips on Quidditch if one day they were close enough, as close as a third year and a first year could be.
"Captain Decipio?" he tipped his dark blue cap at her. "Would it be quite all right if I sit here?"

A sense of cautious hope, both for the game and for the friendship, befell Evelynn as Proccopio entered the field. Even beside the giant of a Hufflepuff captain, she could never be dwarfed. There was a certain aura of that fiery redhead that defied inattention, and her ability to command the battlefield for fear of her deadly skill with a bat was bar-none. Anticipation mounted with every name announced, and the prefect found herself feverishly following the players through the omnioculars as they made their lap. The only dampening of her spirits was the lack of any acknowledgement on Ami's part. Evelynn couldn't fault her, however; not really. She new full well how focus blindered a player to the crowd. How distraction was purposefully shunned in favour of the match at hand. Plus, she was only one amidst a crowd of many. It should have been a surprise if she had somehow been singled out.
A voice nearby caused Evelynn to lower her omnioculars just as the players were getting into position. "Mn?" Half expecting to see the arrival of one of her own team members given the way she had been addressed, she was surprised to see an altogether unfamiliar individual. Younger by at least a year and with a round and unassuming visage, he reminded her of Morris in many a way—with the exception of the distinct lack of a plushie in tow. His small stature only served to lend to her assumption that he must have been a first year.
"By all means," she replied to his question, her tone collected. A hand pulled itself from the omnioculars to flourish itself towards the empty seat beside her before returning to its previous resting place. "I am not holding it for anyone in particular. It is yours for the taking."
Her desaturated gaze would rest upon him as he positioned himself. Prudently attentive of her peers, she had fallen into the habit of examining any who would enter into her proximity. Where the exercise had started as a way to evaluate any immediate risk of threat, it had evolved into something of a memory game. Not only that, but notes and depictions would be jotted down for later reference in the event that anyone's true identity would be called to question.
Mousy hair, brown eyes.. Her own would dart around his face to study its shape, size and relative positioning of its features. She never stopped there, however. Mannerism and dress were just as important. A potion or a spell could replicate an appearance, but the way one behaved wasn't so easily manufactured. She would take note of his attire and its quality, the way he accessorized, how he carried himself, and any other qualities that might be uniquely identifying.
Only once he was seated again would she speak up, presenting her right hand towards him in offer of a shake, "Decipio. Evelynn Decipio. Third year. But you already knew that, it seems. You have me at a disadvantage. You are..?"

It had been a while since Aaron had gotten ready to go to a Quidditch match - participating or spectating. Almost an entire year, actually, since the last one he'd gone to was in May last year. As he threw on a long-sleeved tee that April morning, he could feel himself getting quite excited. There was a buzz in the air about the upcoming match - a buzz he didn't realize he had missed so much. Even though he wasn't going to play today, he'd always enjoyed going to and spectating the other house's Quidditch games. Sure, he'd taken a needed break from his previous obsession with the sport, but he felt good today about going to watch.@Dealla Prince | @Aly Salinger
Today's game was particularly special - Aaron was going to support his girlfriend. That word was still so new, considering it had only become official last week at the end of the Midsummer Festival. But of course Aaron planned to go and support Aly, even if they hadn't been a couple by now, she had become one of his closest friends and he wanted to support her in the things she was passionate about.
He didn't get a chance to see Aly that morning - he woke up a little late, and maybe she had gone to the pitch with her team early, but they missed each other during breakfast. But Aaron did meet up with Dealla as the crowds of Hogwarts and the other visiting schools started heading to the pitch. He knew that Dee had become practically a best friend of Aly's, and Aaron considered Dee a good friend as well, so they had naturally decided to go together to support her. Aaron would give her a brief refresher on the sport if she asked as they made their way to the pitch, and they sat together in the stands.
"Whooooo! Go Aly!" Aaron shouted when Professor Plott announced her name, though he knew she was unlikely to see or hear him. He still had the hugest smile on his face as he watched the curly-haired Ravenclaw girl in the air. He was so excited for her, and proud that her team was crushing the season this year. Sure, he supported Hufflepuff deeply and he kinda wanted them to win, but his newfound sense of relationship priority meant he would cheer for his girlfriend above all else. And he wouldn't be upset if Ravenclaw won because it meant she won.
The fourteen-year-old stayed standing as he watched the pitch, basking in the excitement of the stands as his brown eyes flit between all the players. The Hufflepuff team was filled with familiar faces, but a couple of them were new to Aaron. People he'd seen in the common room or the Great Hall before, but never interacted with. For a brief moment, he missed the sensation of being out there with the team, but then the game began and he didn't have time to miss it. Now his mind and gaze were completely on watching the game and how it played out, keeping a particularly close eye on the Ravenclaw goals where Aly was likely to be.
Aaron has a Calming Presence.Your presence simply puts others at ease, if it is your carefree personality or the trust others have in you, the result is still the same. With you there, perhaps through your encouragement, your allies are able to better focus.

The final match of the year had finally arrived. Though, as much as they would enjoy watching the game, strategy was more prevalent in their minds. Pax hurried up to the stands, a small pencil and notebook in hand, as they frantically mumbled under their breath, scribbling things down.
"We're in third currently, 50 points behind Slytherin... 220 points behind Ravenclaw... we need 70 points to catch up if we win the next match, so that's seven goals... but that's assuming that Ravenclaw lose their match against Hufflepuff... and how likely is that to happen?"
They were so consumed with their workings that they didn't realise that they had reached to stands, until the physically walked into somebody.
"Oh God! I'm so sorry!" They exclaimed. "Are you alright?"
Looking closer, they blinked. Oh, it was this boy. "You're Marius Brown, aren't you? We met on the quidditch pitch, maybe a month ago?"
Only then did they realise that somebody was seated next to him. Their captain, Evelynn.
"Oh! Hi, Evelynn! I shouldn't be too surprised to see you here, should I?" They smiled a little, moving round to sit the other side of her. However, they returned their gaze promptly to their notebook, continuing their frantic scribbling of maths and probabilities of outcomes, only looking up to spectate whenever there were large bursts of cheering or boos from the crowd.Reducio

This was going to be a good day. He was going to watch Winnie kick some ass and it was not his this time. He did not pity the poor saps on the other team. He was here to cheer her Ravenclaw on. He let out a howling cheer that hurt his throat as the teams made their way around the perimeter of the pitch. As he did so an ominous presence could be felt and Satan themselves would take a seat behind him.
"You come to cheer your girlfriend on?"
And the devil did speak. His cheers diverted with a startle, he spilled his pumpkin juice.
"Didn't I put a bell on you?" He didn't but he really should. His back momentarily to the pitch, his roommate gave someone a short wave. He missed whoever it was.
"She's showing her love to you, Hia!"
"She? Shit!" He abruptly turned around and she was already gone, her broom was like a damned rocket. He had missed her, all he would see is her ridiculously long hair trailing behind her.
"I'm glad you two seem to be trying to make up. You guys deserve some happiness."
"I missed her," he grumbled. Every man has a fetish, his involved Quidditch uniforms. He eyed the rest of the team and competition, even the ugly ones looked alright.
"I am trying to watch W-the game," he complained. The heat of the sun had already left him pink, his Irish heritage was certainly showing through. It was times like these he wished he had the genes of his cousins who tanned rather than burned. He craned his neck to get a better view off the teams taking position on the pitch.
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
Before he knew it, a pink towel was hovering over his head, eliminating any hope of looking masculine for the game. Yet, not that he would vernally admit it, the towel was a welcome relief from the sun's continual assault. They were in Scotland for Merlin's sake, since when did the sun come over here!
"You look good without your mask on, Hia. You should be like this more often."
What was Hia? "Hia?" He would put voice to his confusion, his inability to identify the noise as a nickname, it sounded like some 'Asian noise.'
"You bring anything to eat?"
Hiro was an invasive creature, Pride determined. Persistent, insistent, hypervigilant and hyperactive. He gestured towards his satchel, beneath the leather flap the contents of the bag was notable. Jerky, dried fruit and granola, he was not much of a junk-food eater and like most people of his status, he had little trust for edibles made by those not on his direct payroll. Besides that he had a few bottles of pumpkin juice. "Grab whatever," he announced dismissively. There was nothing to be lost or gained on this day.

A t-shirt bearing a shade of Gryffindor red served as the introductory piece to his unofficial attire, setting both precedent and expectation for the outfit's remaining components, which included baggy shorts, a pair of flip flops upon his feet, and cheap sunglasses deflecting the worst of the sun's rays away from hazel eyes. Concerning his garb, his father would have been proud, his mother aghast - all in keeping with the continuous standard his life upheld.
For all intents and purposes, it would appear the second-year had come prepared for a day at the beach, that display compounded by the bottle of orange juice he carried in one hand, not to mention the unkempt nature of his dirty blonde hair.
The boy's motivation for attending the match stemmed from multiple avenues, not the least of which involving his anxious anticipation for the second competition that would take place that afternoon. He'd awoken at an unholy hour that morning, veins threatening to burst as a result of the blood his overzealous heart pumped without respect for sleeping patterns. Akin to a child left to their own devices on Christmas morning, returning to his slumber had proved an unattainable notion as racing thoughts of brooms, bludgers and bats - oh my - accosted his mind's eye. Thus, he'd taken to action, particularly in the form of pacing about his dorm whilst stroking his prized Silver Arrow like a maniac; that is, until the time when leaving said dorm was acceptable in the opinion of school rules, at which point he'd moved his anxious doings to the training pitch.
And there had he remained for multiple hours, practicing, envisioning, and altogether driving himself mad. But one could only spend so much time on such a task, especially given the quidditch match preceding his own - the perfect opportunity to be distracted without losing focus on the upcoming effort.
Finally given the chance to divert his attention onto something else, the loosened nature of a carefree soul would color his movements as his gaze panned over the assembled crowd, scanning for familiar faces.
Eyes ever drawn to her features like one magnet to the other, he quickly spotted Evelynn, noting the banner she'd placed which exclaimed her bias for the Hufflepuff team.
How intriguing that she would bring such a thing. Personally, Marshal wouldn't have expected to see his quidditch captain displaying any manner of support for the likes of a rival team; that said, her apparent willingness to do so clearly indicated an underlying purpose or agenda. Perhaps her motivations were geared toward the fate of her team, he mused. After all, Gryffindor could only stand to benefit from a Hufflepuff win in this match.
But why stand there and craft assumptions when he could ask the source of his curiosity herself?
Raising a hand of greeting in her direction, he began the inevitable process of shuffling through the crowd, various intonations of "Excuse me" mingling with the occasional "My bad" as a knee was bumped or foot tread upon. The friendly wave had also been extended to Pax, whom he recognized as the new Gryffindor co-captain, and more uncertainly to the stranger actively engaged in conversation with Eve.
He would not reach the three of them, however, before his attention was stolen by someone else entirely. Suddenly met with a pink towel in his face, he turned to sidestep his way past the makeshift umbrella, allowing his eyes to drift down to the individual it shaded. And it was then that familiarity would call from the depths of recent memory.
The boy now seated before him directly affected a different motivation he'd had for attending the morning's match. Grin thinning into a tight line, he paused, still positioned directly between the other boy and the pitch, effectively cutting off his view of the action. Turning his head, Marshal searched for Winnie below, whom he'd come - in part - to support. Given her position on the bench, she wasn't terribly difficult to locate.
A moment more would see him in that same position, unbothered by any complaints or insults that might be thrown his way. Then, pointedly omitting any inquiry for permission, he took a single step back the way he'd come and claimed the empty seat beside the target of his focus.
"Mathias Pride, isn't it?" he asked. The body of his tone remained amiable, though a note of tension lay just beneath the obvious surface. "I recognize you from the ball the other night. Winnie's told me so much about you." A steady gaze at Mathias's features accompanied the last statement, though the sunglasses veiled the glint of hardened pupils. "Congrats on being named one of the school champions, although I hear you've since withdrawn? I'm Marshal, by the way." He would then acknowledge the stranger situated on Pride's opposite side, extending a hand to both in an offer to shake. "I don't recall seeing you around, I'm afraid. What's your name?"
