Date for the Ball Finished

Kathleen stormed into the ballroom, her fiery red hair swishing behind her. Why, oh why, hadn't she been more attentive? She had only found out about the Ball today - and it was going to take place today! At least, a good friend had told her about the festive day, but still... How on earth was she going to find someone who wanted to go with her in the next couple of hours?
The ballroom was buzzing with activity, students flitting around as well as teachers. Practising their dance moves. Decorating the huge hall. Kathleen was pretty sure that she even had seen a couple kissing behind a glittery curtain. "Um, hello?" she called. "Would anyone like to..." She closed her eyes, no, she couldn't ask someone for a date publicly, it would be fearfully embarassing. A few heads swivelled around towards her and turned back to whatever the people were doing. The young Ravenclaw sat on a stool near the door, unsure what to do.

Lancelot, who had been previously examining a set of sparkling decorations (they were quite eye-catching, in his defense), turned his head around when he heard a girl speak from somewhere near him. She had cut herself off, and he noticed that her face was almost as red as her hair. Was she embarrassed of merely speaking? No, Lancelot would not stand for that. He strode up to the girl, his hands in his pockets casually. "Hey, I'm Lancelot," he started, leaning down to her, as she was sitting on a stool. "But you can call me Lance." He brushed his flowing bangs to the other side of his face, trying to make the conversation start as inconspicuously as possible. "I don't believe we've met, so I thought I'd try introducing myself. What's your name?" He leaned on the door casually, crossing his arms and smiling with bright teal eyes. He was usually one to initiate conversations and truly did enjoy making friends, or acquaintances at the very least. He had made it his goal to get to know everyone in his house, and even the other houses if he could. The more friends he had, the less lonely it would be at Hogwarts. And not even for him, some people just need someone to be nice to them at some point. And Lance wanted to be that person.

Kathleen whipped around as she heard his voice. He was leaning in to her, she felt uncomfortable - she was sitting and it seemed as if the tall boy towered over her - but the Ravenclaw girl quickly reassured herself that it was a completely harmless situation. "Hi, I'm Lancelot. But you can call me Lance." he said. Kathleen looked at him carefully. He was tall, his thick wavy hair and clear, bright eyes quite attractive, his skin had an olive tone.
Kathleen quickly brushed a ginger strand of hair from her face and smiled at him. "Hi, I'm Kathleen. I don't really have a nickname... well, maybe you can call me Kath?" Okay. The conversation wasn't going too bad - at least she hadn't said anything embarassing or tripped over something.
She fidgeted a little, unsure what to say next. "Um, do you want to go to the ball? It's quite a cool event, I think, and, well, I like the decorations..." She really did like them, they were so festive and sparkly. While waiting for a response, she gazed around admiringly with huge blue-green eyes. She quite liked Lancelot, he certainly looked rather good and seemed nice.

"Right!?" Lancelot suddenly threw his arms up in the air when Kathleen had complimented the decorations. "Nobody wanted to put the decorations up with me! I don't get it, it's so fun and they're so glittery!" Smoothly crossing his arms and regaining his posture, Lance leaned on the door again, a charming smirk still apparent on his face. "Anyway yeah, I'd love to go to the ball. Honestly, who wouldn't? Social gatherings are so opportunistic. The real question is if I'm going specifically with you. Because I can't say I'd complain about that, I'd love to get to know you, and maybe we could be friends?" He flashed her an innocent, toothy grin and shrugged his shoulders. Kathleen so far seemed like a very nice girl, and Lance decided that it would be fun to go to the ball with her. It didn't have to be romantic, but he would be happy to comply if that was Kathleen's wish. He didn't want to seem too upfront about it though, making her uncomfortable was not his intent. So he just offered friendship before romance just in case she wasn't interested. It was probably the safest thing to do, in his opinion.

Kathleen's eyes widened a little. Oh my, he really and truly wants to go to the ball with me! She just stood there grinning happily; only when she looked into his eager eyes, she realised that she should maybe ... well... say something. "I'd absolutely love to!" she blurted out. "And yes, becoming friends would be cool. I'd love to get to know new people!"
And now? The young Ravenclaw was unsure. What actually came next? Probably, they had to talk about meeting up or something ... So, that was exactly what she did now. "So, let's meet up at the ball later on ... if you really want to. I'll be wearing a pink dress with silver glitter elements at the waist and top and a tulle skirt...." Oh no, this sounded as if she was a horrible show-off even though she had just wanted to make sure that the handsome Slytherin guy would recognise her. She switched from the description of her dress seamlessly to the time. "The ball starts in the evening - and I'll be probably one of the first ones, I'm always early. I'll wait near the door - or wait, I'll already sit down so we have a table. Is that OK with you?"

What do we do now? Do we leave this thread and go on in the "ball" thread?

Lance chuckled, rubbing the back of his head with his hand a bit awkwardly. She was really cute. Wow. "Yeah, that sounds good! Knowing me, I might be a bit late. I'll try to be on time though. Oh, and I don't actually don't have anything nice prepared!" Lancelot suddenly felt a feeling of dread when he realized this. He couldn't afford a suit! And no... he couldn't afford a dress either. Not that he'd wear one. What was it like for girls to wear dresses anyway? Shaking his head, Lance snapped himself out of his wandering thoughts. "Anyway, I'll figure something out. And I'll be sure to find you. What was it... pink dress... sparkles? Ah well, I'll just find your red hair." Lancelot crossed his arms, giving Kathleen a sideways smirk, trying to act cool. He was probably failing miserably. But did Lancelot care? ...Yes. Clearing his throat, he straightened himself and put his hands in his pockets. "So yeah, I guess I'll see you then? Sorry if I seem a bit flustered, this is my first unofficial date believe it or not. I mean, not that this has to be romantic or anything! Platonic is completely fine!" Lance quickly put his hands to his chest in defense, but soon after put his face in his palm, sighing and blushing in embarrassment. He didn't expect himself to suddenly be not-so-smooth. "You know what, I'm just gonna go now. S-see you this evening!" And with that, he turned on his heels, striding away swiftly. But he still felt the sweat on the back of his neck and his face burning. Nice going, Lance. Whatever happened to 'charming'?

Yeah, that sounds like the best option to me.
