Hidden Treasures
The sun hung low in the sky, preparing to set, birds and dragonflies filled the air with flight and song, and November Morsus was creeping through the wildest parts of the school grounds, slithering under bushes and between trees, skulking about on hands and knees, a basket clutched in one pale hand.
He was, as he always was, pretty careful not to be seen, sticking close to the shadows, obscuring himself in foliage. But it was pretty hard to remain completely unseen when one was making one's way carefully across each acre of the grounds, hunting through everything that grew there. For that was precisely what November was up to: hunting.
No, not for any unfortunate creatures that might be living on the grounds, November was hunting for plants. Specifically, the sorts of plants that might assist him in his, practice. After all, one would be amazed at the kinds of useful things growing in even the tamest of parks if one simply knew how to look, and a magical school had to be simply bursting with all manner of medicinal ingredients all over its grounds.
He'd already managed to fill his small basket halfway, having earlier familiarized himself with magical herbs from the many thick tomes in the Hogwarts library, but he couldn't bring himself to stop just yet, his curiosity downright overflowing. He was getting closer to the lake, and there had to be some interesting and useful waterweeds there....
But as he approached, he froze.
Someone was there.

Eri was as usual at the Great Lake. Everyday she tried to come to the Lake at least once. And today she was reading a transfiguration book she found in the library earlier that day. The brunette loved to read. Anything really. Though transfiguration is her favorite subject so she normally reads transfiguration books.
The brunette was unaware of the boy in the bushes she was to preoccupied with her book to even notice him if he was standing in front of her and talking to her.
The Ravenclaw put her book down and stood up. She looked at the Lake and took in the beautiful Hogwarts grounds. That's when she felt somebody looking at her. At least that is what she thought was looking at her. So she turned and could barely see November. She had no clue what he was doing in the bushes and she didn't know if she wanted to know what he was up to. So Eri looked back at her book that was lying on the ground and picked it up. "Hi" Eri said uncertainly to November. Maybe he would say hello back, but she had no clue and stood there waiting for his reaction.

"Hello," came a soft whisper from inside the bush. He was still within its leafy sanctuary, staring out at Eri with wide, dark eyes, looking for all the world like a baby fawn trying to escape notice of predators. But when there wasn't any to be found, only a soft word of greeting, an uncertain smile, he slowly, carefully crept forth.
Once risen to his full height, still unimpressive for the moment but with quite a distance to go as his gangly limbs seemed to indicate, one could clearly see the basket in his pale, slender hands. It was full to bursting with all manner of plants and flowers, a rainbow of flowers, spilling from the wicker rims.
"I was just, going to see if there were any bulrushes growing out here," he said, quiet, halting, waving one hand in the direction of the lake, "there usually are, around water, so I thought, maybe-..." His words trailed off, awkward.
"Oh goodness, I've entirely forgot to introduce myself," he realized after a beat, blushing, wondering if he'd already screwed up this chance encounter beyond repair, "my name's November Morsus, what's yours?" He blinked those large, dark eyes at her, his head tilting a bit as he awaited a reply.

Eri heard him say hello. She was right someone was in the bushes. She watched as he stood up. The basket in his hand was full of plants and flowers. She was wondering why he was in the bush, but maybe the basket should explain it. He probably was picking herbs and stuff. Which wasn't that strange. She wondered how long he had been in the bush. Or if he had just come down to the lake. She didn't mind though company was always appreciated.
He was looking for bulrushes. There might be some by the water, but she honestly had no clue if there were bulrushes. "I'm Eri Windstone. Nice to meet you November. I think there might be bulrushes by the Lake, but I really don't have a clue." She said softly. He seemed a bit nervous. Probably since he just was seen in a bush. Lots of intresting things happened at Hogwarts. This being one of them. Hopefully he wasn't scared of her. She wasn't really intimidating. She was short and really didn't look like she could harm anyone. So he didn't to be scared of her.
Gesturing towards the basket Eri spoke, "What are those for? If you don't mind me asking."

"It's, lovely to meet you too, Eri..." He was slowly starting to calm down, his smile seeming more genuine, less nervous. All the same, he still continued to shift, fidget, clutch his basket with pale, frail hands.
"I'm sure there are, they grow nearly everywhere there's water, and there's so very much water here..." he chuckled. "I'm sure I won't want for bulrush jelly for weeks, if, ever...." The plenty of this place still managed to astound him again and again. He could live off the land alone here incredibly comfortably, and yet there was a banquet laid out every mealtime! The only thing he missed was access to the kitchens, which he'd been very sternly barred from several times before.
When she asked what was in his basket, his nerves quadrupled in an instant, his dark eyes going wide, his body going still for the briefest instant. But then he smiled again, the fear gone, and held up the basket for her to look. "It's for potions class, they require such a great many ingredients, that I thought I'd look around the grounds to see if I could find anything without having to go all the way to the supply cabinet and beg for more if I mess up my first attempt..." An observant eye could, indeed, spot a great many plants featured in their beginners' potions lessons.

Eri nodded and smiled. "That is smart. I don't really like potions that much. I'm not very good at it for some reason, but it seems you quite enjoy it." She said looking at the basket and there were ingredients that were used in first year potions.
"What are your favorite classes? I like transfigurations. Someday I want to be an animagus." She looked at November. He seemed nice. She wondered if he wanted to be her friend. She would ask him later just not right at that second.
Eri was not very good at potions or making friends. There were other things she would rather do than talk to people. Sometimes it is awkward when she tries to talk to someone. Shaking those thoughts away Eri wiped a strand of hair from her face.
"Do you like Hogwarts?" She loved Hogwarts. It was one of her favorite places to be and she could learn anything she wanted to learn. Like transfiguration, and Dark Arts. She like all of the classes but transfiguration by far is her favorite. She smiled and waited for November to answer her questions. If she was right then he liked potions as his favorite class.

"Really? Well, if you'd ever like any, help..." He smiled. Potions came so easily to him, after all, as well as helping other children from his days at St. Romuald's. It would be nice to spend more time in the potions workshop, brewing over a bubbling pot, and with friends there on top of it.
November was still very, very new to the concept of friendship, but he found that so far, he liked it, liked it quite a bit. It was, pleasant, to have other children around that he didn't have to avoid.
"I like potions, as you can probably tell," he said with a chuckle in answer to her question, "but I also quite like herbology as well. I learned a lot about plants from, before, and it's fun to have so many new kinds to read about." He beamed. "I-, do believe I like Hogwarts, yes," he said after a moment of consideration, his pale hand on his chin, his dark eyes roaming skyward, "it's, it's a very strange place to me, but, it's nice, really... It's certainly better than-... Where I was before." He hated saying that he'd come from St. Romuald's, wanted to leave that place in the dust forever.

She smiled. "I would like to have some help with potions." Eri looked at him and considered asking him sometime in the future for help in potions. "I was wondering if you would like to be my friend?" She asked a bit awkwardly.
Eri looked at the Lake and smiled. He liked herbology too. That was also a nice class. It went with herbology quite well. All the plants and most of the ones you learned you used in potions class. Eri herbology but not potions.
He spoke about where he used to live but only a small reference. Maybe it wasn't a good place. She shouldn't ask about it. She had an okay home without her parents, but she didn't like to talk about it either. She looked at him.
The brunette looked at him. She wanted to get to know him better but she didn't know many questions to ask him about himself. She didn't like to ask personal questions since she was very awkward when she tried to ask questions. So she waited for November to answer her question and she hoped she didn't make him feel to uncomfortable. Her cheeks were a bit red from embarrassment.

"Really, excellent." He beamed, the last of his nerves finally falling away to reveal pure, unadulterated joy, shining from his face like bottled sunshine. This only brightened further as she asked if he'd like to be friends, making him nod emphatically. "Oh, I would love to be friends!" Two whole friends! Already! This had to be a record of some sort.
Of course, how long these friendships would last was another matter entirely, and he struggled to suppress a shudder at what might happen if Eri discovered what some of the flowers in his basket were really for. Visions of her screaming and running from him in horror danced briefly through his head, but he did his best to dislodge them, looked out over the lake instead.
"I'm-... Really happy you'd like to be my friend," he said at last, offering her a smile, a faint blush. "I didn't have many when I first arrived here, but then, I don't imagine many people would, since it's a brand new school in a brand new place and all... Glad that changed fast." He attempted to act like having friends wasn't completely new territory for him, and hoped it was convincing enough.

Eri smiled. He seemed excited that she wanted to be friends with him. She didn't have many friends really. She had some acquaintances. And a few enimies. "I didn't have many friends either. But I can tell you are excited that I wanted to be your friend." Eri said smiling. He was really nice to her.
Eri wiped her hair out of her face and looked at the Lake. Right now she wanted to just read a book by the Lake. It was quite calming for her. She looked at his basket of plants and flowers and wondered what the others were for.
The brunette never had a great interest in herbology or potions. It was nice that he said he would help her with potions. Which was very nice of him since he had just met her not very long ago.
Eri thought about asking him another question. "If you ever need help in Transfigurations I can help with that?" She said casually wondering if he wanted some help with Transfigurations. She would love to help him since he wanted to help her in potions and it seemed right to help him back in one of her best subjects.
