Thalia had gotten up early in order to make it to class on time. She was currently picking up her books and making her way out the Gryffindor common room. She made her way down the moving stairs safely and continued down a dimly lit corridor. She watched as a majority of students were up and walking around to their classes and other places. Thalia tucked a piece of her light brown hair behind her ear and held her books tightly close to her chest, so they don't fall.
Thalia neared to door to History of Magic and peaked into the room.
"Good no one is here yet", She spoke out loud to herself.
Thalia made her way into the room and walked to a random desk in the middle of the classroom. She set her books down on the desk, straightened out her robe and sat down. She opened up her History of Magic books to page one and began to read, glancing every now and then at the door to see if anyone is making their way into class.

Early For Class
Sophia dragged her feet as she made her way to the History of Magic classroom. She liked Professor Zahid, and she didn’t mind his class. It was one of the few classes she was doing well in. She only had an ‘E’ average, but it was better than the ‘A’s’ she was scrounging together in most of her other classes. Yeah, she actually kind of liked History of Magic, especially when the lessons lined up with muggle history and she could compare them to what she’d already known.
But why did it have to be so gosh-darned early? Sophia was the opposite of a morning person, and it always showed when she had a morning class.
She checked her ponytail and nodded when she noticed it was just as neat as she liked it. She checked her robes for her glasses and checked another box on her mental checklist. Lastly, she made sure the homework that was due today was tucked neatly inside her textbook.
Satisfied that all was in order, Sophia pushed the door to the classroom open and stopped when she saw she wasn’t the first to class. That was odd. Sophia hated mornings, and she was usually late, so maybe that was why she hadn’t expected anyone to be here this early.
“Hi,” she said with a grin, “I’m Sophia. I don’t think we’ve met.”

Thalia looked up from her book only for her gaze to meet a auburn haired Ravenclaw girl. It took a moment for her to register what the girl had said.
"Oh, um hi, I'm Thalia. It's nice to meet you", She said grinning back at the girl.
Thalia slowly closed her book and placed a hand on it. She took a moment to study the Ravenclaw girl. She took note that the girl looked neatly put together. She had her all her textbooks, her robes were neatly on and her pony neatly tied back. Thalia took note that Sophia had auburn hair, bright green eyes, very light freckles you can barely see, and thinly framed glasses set on her face. If you take a closer look at her though you could see by her expression that she was still tired. The corner of Thalia's mouth turn upwards a little.
"You are not a morning person, are you?" She asked, with a raised eyebrow.
Thalia sat up straighter and tucked a piece of her light brown hair behind her ear. "Don't worry I'm not a morning person either. If I could, I would sleep all day. The only reason I'm early today was because I was late last time."
She took a moment to stare at the girl once again. She tilted her head curiously, "Why are you here so early?", She asked.

“Thalia,” Sophia tested the name under her breath, enjoying how it rolled off the tongue, “What a beautiful name!”
She beamed at the other girl, happy to have met her! If Sophia’s previous experience was an indication, Gryffindor students were usually very, very nice, so she was so excited to have met Thalia.
She gently plopped her book onto the desk next to Thalia’s and asked, “Mind if I sit here? Maybe we can review the homework together. It was so hard.”
Hopefully the girl agreed. Final exams were rapidly approaching, and studying was always more fun in a group.
“I hate mornings so much but, like, I barely managed an ‘A’ in Charms, Transfig, and Defense, so I know I’m not exactly good at them, but I had an ‘E’ in History, so I don’t want to jeopardize it by showing up late, you know? How ‘bout you? You were here even earlier!”
She didn’t mean to sound accusatory at the statement. Hopefully it sounded more playful than anything. The last thing Sophia wanted was to scare the poor girl off with her lack of social skills.
“Er, not that it’s any of my business or anything! I totally understand if you don’t want to tell me at all! I mean, we literally just met. Why would I ask something so personal?”
Sophia’s rambling was followed by an awkward giggle.
Oh great, wonderful first impression, Soph, she thought with an internal scream.

Colin skipped along the nearly deserted corridor towards History of Magic. Twas an early class, but Colin was already up by six and had chatted with three different portraits and went out into the Courtyard to visit some wee friends with a special snack of beetles he'd collected from down by the lake earlier that morning. He never hung around the Slytherin table very long at breakfast: he preferred to sit alone and then make a quick escape. And so it was he found himself early to History of Magic.
This didn't bother him at all because he really did enjoy the class and like their teacher. He even liked most of the kids in the class!
As Colin neared the classroom, he sped up, veered across the corridor and grabbed the door jamb with his left hand, allowing for an awesome and near instantaneous course change.
"Owoooo! Now that was brilliant!" he cried as the increased momentum sent him careening and sliding towards the central aisle of the classroom. He skidded to a stop dead centre and then stomped up a few rows towards where two fellow students were already in conversation.
Colin plopped into a seat, tipped the contents of his satchel out and thunked his textbook onto the ancient wood. "Take that, o queens and kings of Faerie and all wands historical!" he cried before opening the book up to a random page.
"Whew!" Colin leaned back into his chair, laced his fingers behind his head and assumed a posture of total comfort. There was still plenty of time to sort out his mismatched buttons, undone tie and scuffy robes! He didn't realise that he had two long twigs with young green leaves stuck in his messy black hair.

"Oh yes you're more welcome to sit there and it's ok! I was late last time to class because I had got into a fight with some Slytherin." She rolled her eyes, "In order to not be late I decided to arrive here early".
Thalia stopped talking and watched a boy loudly come in the room. She watched as he stomped and then proceeded to plop down into his seat. She turned, looked at Sophia and then turned to look back at the boy. She studied the boy for a moment. She took note of his black messy hair, his greenish grey eyes and his Slytherin attire.
Thalia tried to hold in her laugh and remembered what her mother always told her, 'It's not polite to laugh at people Thalia'. She tiled her head curiously as she looked at his messy form. Looks like he had been in a rush or something, she thought.
She giggled a little and pointed to his hair, "You, um got a little something there".
Thalia faintly smiled a little and turn back around in her seat. She reopened up her textbook and began to read it again. Thalia thought for a moment before sighing and closing her book. "No point in reading it again" she said to herself.
She turned back around to the boy, "What's your name?" She asked.

Sophia frowned. She'd never seen any other students get violent. Not even Slytherins, despite their reputation. She was about to ask about it, but before the words could even leave her mouth, a familiar sound hit her ears. A sound she'd not heard since being a muggle. The sound of an excited puppy running into the room. She knew those footsteps.
It was Colin!
Colin ran in theatrically, stopped at a nearby seat and relaxing. He liked like he'd jumped straight out of a cartoon, and Sophia couldn't just not giggle at his antics. Oh, she loved Colin. He was so silly. Soon enough, though, her giggle erupted into full-blown laughter and there were tears sliding from her eyes.
"Yeah, Colin," she said with a grin, laughter barely dying back into the giggles from which it had been born, "She's right. You got something right here."
She reached up and pulled the twigs out of the boy's hair, placing them neatly on his desk before, by pure instinct, deciding to ruffle his hair and give a little scratch behind his ears.
"You're like a puppy, Colin. Please never change," she said with a smile.
She turned back to her textbook, opening it to the pages they'd been on in the last class. Gargoyles. Oh my. She grabbed the parchment upon which she'd written her homework and laid it out neatly on her desk.
"Don't suppose you did the homework, eh Col?" she asked in amusement.
This was a good start to an early morning.

Thalia watched as Sophia took the branch out this Colin boy's hair. She watched as Sophia ruffled his hair and proceeded to scratch behind the boy's ear like a dog.
"You're like a puppy, Colin. Please never change," She heard Sophia tell him.
The statement threw Thalia off, and she straight up let out a laugh. She had to cover her mouth to hold in the rest of her laughing. When she was done laughing and calmed down, she sat up straight again and put on a straight face.
At the mention of homework Thalia opened her textbook and took out a piece of paper. She set it down on top of her book and began to look over it. Her eyes widened as she looked at it. "No, no, no," she said to herself out loud. I brought the wrong homework, she thought to herself. Thalia looked at the time and shook her head. She didn't have enough time to go get her homework from the Gryffindor common room, which was on the fifth floor. She didn't even know where she had left it.
I could just use a spell to retrieve it, she thought.
Thalia sighed. She rather not and just leave it be how it is. Thalia closed her eyes and let her head drop onto the desk. If her mother were there, Thalia knows she'd be up in her business. She'd most likely say 'It's not lady like to slouch, now sit up properly Thalia'.

Colin watched his classmates for a moment. He grinned at Sophia. The other girl looked as though she wanted to explode with laughter. Sophia was a friend --- a nice friend --- but he hadn't met the other girl yet. He thought her name was Thalamine, or something like that. He'd have to ask.
The girl really did look like she wanted to laugh. But she did say "You, um got a little something there". She pointed to his head, so Colin tilted his head back all the way and whipped his head back and forth, trying to see what was there. He straightened up in his chair and shook himself, much like a dog.
"I don't see anything, lass! What are you on about?"
Sophia did laugh however! And her laugh was full of joy and mirth!, as she got up and walked over towards his desk. "She's right. You got something right here." Then she plucked something from his hair and put it on the desk, but Colin ignored it for the moment, because she ruffled his hair and scratched behind his ear for a short while.
Colin's eyes closed and his lips parted slightly into a grin of pure contentment. Mmmm. So nice! he thought. He drew his legs up onto the bench, supported his body with one arm and leaned into Sophia's hand. His head bobbed in rhythm with each scritch-scratch! "Mmmmm. Niccccceeee scratcheseseses, Sophs!"
"Uff!" Colin almost collapsed when Sophia stopped and went back to her seat.
"You're like a puppy, Colin. Please never change," she said.
Colin smiled. But in an instant, the smile disappeared. His brows furrowed and he looked suddenly sad. I shouldn't have made friends with Sophs. She's too sweet. I don't know if I have the heart to tell her --- he thought. He understood only too well: puppies grow up into doggies; I'll grow up into a --- Colin didn't even to think the word, though he'd heard many many horrible names from other students.
"Don't suppose you did the homework, eh Col?" Sophia, it seems, hadn't noticed his change in mood. Colin looked around quickly to see if anyone else had come in and noticed. She was teasing him. Mercilessly. As always!
His mood perked up again. Hah! Two can play that game, lass!
"Yeah! I've had my homework done since it was assigned! Sophs, don't you Ravens know anything about the Library? You know, where they keep these things called books?" Now it was Colin's turn to laugh, and he tried his best Slytherin snarky smirk.
It didn't work too well, because he couldn't help it evolving into an ordinary laugh of merriment! Colin had come to love their friendship. He knew it wouldn't last.

Sophia threw on a playful smirk and gestured to Colin, "Then come enlighten us lowly first years with your expertise, O great one."
She gestured to the seat beside her and patted it gently, hoping the boy would take the hint. She turned to Thalia and facepalmed. Oh, she was such an idiot.
"Sorry about that, Thal - wait, can I call you Thal? - Anyway, this is Colin. He's just the sweetest little cinnamon roll. Just, super adorable. He's the kind of boy you want to hug and then hug some more. Seriously, he's like a little cupcake of cuteness."
Sophia smiled at the other boy for a moment before turning her attention back to their homework. She frowned as she heard a soft, "No, no, no," beside her and winced when she saw Thalia's parchment. Was that...?
"Wait, is that Charms homework?" she asked with a tilt of the head, "Hold on, I have some spare parchment in my pocket, but it's a bit folded up. You can copy mine, just change the words a bit."
She fished in her robes' inner pockets, pulling out a piece of folded parchment and straightening it out on the desk. She slid her own homework over so that Thalia could see it.
