God, it's brutal out here shoutout to Olivia Rodrigo for the lyric. Namely for a certain Pericles. Despite Thomas and Pericles being in the same year and both duelling co-captains, the Slytherins had chosen Pericles as the first that needed to be eliminated. Illowy went for the same spell she had tried last round and this time hit true, flames starting to make their way up Pericles' robes, burning him from the outside in. Santario who had felt a bit rusty due to her recent inhabitants of slugs seemed to shake off that feeling with a perfectly executed Knockback Jinx. The boy, already aflame, flying backwards at the sheer power of this spell.
Before his KO he tried to leave his partner with an advantage, targeting Santario with the blindfolding spell, but the silky black headband flew past the girl. Thomas also attempted to reciprocate the fire, needing to accommodate for his lack of fiery banter with the other team. He struck Santario perfectly, the serpent going up in flames shortly after.
"Stop! Stop casting. Pericles is unconscious." Willow watched as the young boy was hauled off to the Hospital Wing. It was a reminder of how brutal the sport was, especially when her very powerful wizard friends fell within just a few rounds. She made to check on him afterwards. "Annnnd, keep doing the spell thing!"

Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 3
"Is that a request, or," he quickly replied to Pericles before casting his spell, Incendio Duo truly was his favorite. Unfortunately, the joy was short-lived, as Tom was forced to depart from the zone as the duel was paused for the moment. His posture straightened a little, expression awkward.
It was an unfamiliar sensation for Thomas, being the last one standing. Typically he found himself out of the duel first, though it seemed this time around the tables had turned. Unfortunately for the Slytherins on the opposing side, the young boy would prove to be quite the obnoxious opponent. He cast a glance Peri's way as he was removed from the stage, a firm nod in his direction before directing his attention back to his opponents.
"Hate to break it to you guys, but no matter your expectations, this is far from over," he called out confidently. The smirk Thomas wore on his face was as true as the sky was blue. Even if he was at a disadvantage without a friend at his side, he knew there was still some fun to be had. "I do suppose you've made a great choice, to save the best for last," he teased, perhaps some taunts would provoke a mistake on their part. Tom would certainly be happy with that turn of luck!Action: As strategized!

Thankfully rust was easily knocked off as she levied her wand at Pericles. "Flipendo!" Santario could feel the power surge through her as the blue light built at the tip of her wand before striking him true. Illowy also cast brilliantly and before she knew it he was flat on him back and not getting up. "Sorry Pear" was murmured to herself as she slid her sapphire eyes to Thomas. "Good. We don't like to be bored."

Pericles scrunched his freckled nose when the blindfold went wide, yet all the same, that expression of focused determination would not waver until the last second. He had managed a grin at Tom's reply- it might have been a request for the familiarity of his sharp-witted banter- yet before he could confirm, Illowy's Incedio struck him. His eyes went wide and watery, jaw clenched as he swallowed down an expression of pain. Fire took the air right out of one's lungs. Still, he didn't seem to realize that this was the end until San's Flipdendo was seconds from striking. Try as he may to evade it, the critical blow roared head-on, and in that final moment realization surfaced as a mortified grimace. He tried to brace for impact, but to no avail. The blunt blow was so intense that it sent him tumbling, doing the minute mercy of smothering flames in the process. The pale eagle would remain unconscious as his smoldering body was rolled onto a stretcher and carried to the peaceful confines of the infirmary.Action: [ depressing violin music ]

A smile played on her lips as her flames, in combination with Martin's beautiful knockback, finally brought the duel into their favor. Despite his attempts at dodging his inevitable fate, the pale lad was left in a smoldering heap on the platform until word from Willow. As the duel was paused, and the third year was carted from the piste, her pale eyes lifted to the lone eagle still standing. Like a lonely soldier on a battlefield. Though not without a bit of reassurance that he'd take care to keep the duel interesting.
"Let's hope this lad knows how to put his money where his mouth is," she agreed, casting a short glance at Martin.
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Thomas was now a lone man on the battlefield. Mourning his duelling partner as he was carried off. But, he could not give up now. He still had a chance at this. He aimed his wand at Santario, casting a well aimed Wind Jinx that left her feeling dizzy- again. Poor Santario might have issues standing upright after all the times she was hit with the wind this duel.
While Illowy took care of the flames that were consuming her partner, Santario had shifted her focus to Thomas. It was one of the closest calls of the game. Thomas just barely managing to dodge the gust of wind that was heading straight for him. Now that Santario was extinguished he was sure to have the attention of both duellists.

Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 3
"Ventus! AH-" Adrenaline kept the young Ravenclaw fast and agile. Just as soon as Thomas had cast his spell, he found himself narrowly avoiding the one coming his way. He offered his opponent an almost apologetic smile; Santario was good. It was just so unfortunate for the pair that he was better, at least in his own mind.
Thomas hummed quietly, some imagined tune that was an indication of his high spirits. He was practically glowing with pride. If he could just keep tipping the scales, bit by bit, he'd take home a victory for his house. Now that both sights were set on him, Tom knew that the challenge was truly about to begin. More than half the time remained, anything could happen.Action: As strategized!

Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 3

Santario and Thomas flung the twin spells at one another, and while Santario was engulfed in yet another windstorm, it was not lost on her that the boy had barely managed to get out of the way of her spell. She tightened her jaw and strayed braced as the winds whipped around her furiously. They had gotten lucky with the number of times Ventus had consumed her, but Vipers never backed down.

It seemed the teams were thinking on the same frequency as her partner and their now lonely opponent tossed the same spells at one another while she went to work snuffing out the flame on Martin. Despite the sorry state of the other snake, Illowy couldn't help but mentally commend her for how well she was holding up in the moment.
She and Santario might not've been much more the housemates and teammates, but at least they were nothing short of being tuned into the same mindset; no backing down and keep your feet on the ground. Losing wasn't on the table.
They had this.
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

It was a stormy day in the duelling club, as, once again, the favourite weapon of choice was the Wind Jinx. While Santario took a moment to improve her condition with a formidably cast healing charm, both Thomas and Illowy decided to conjure some wind. For a moment, it looked like Thomas was especially successful at this: His spell split in two, one projectile heading for each of the Slytherins, but multitasking is hard, and trying to hit two moving target at the same time no easy feat. The blast of wind meant for Santario went awry, swerving towards Illowy who had just narrowly dodged one of Thomas' attacks and now easily danced out of the way of the second. Her own Wind Jinx was passably cast at best but showed impressive accuracy, apparently predicting Thomas' nimble movements and hitting his shoulder, pushing him off-balance. It was the first hit the Ravenclaw had taken today, would there be more to follow?
