Archer would have about sold his soul for a robe of warmth right then. Considering all of his belongings were at the bottom of the lake (along with the 16 precious silver sickles he'd spent months cleaning dragon poop to save up), he didn't have much else to offer.

He was dripping on the castle floor and leaving behind wet footprints, his shoes making a sickening squish squash whenever he took a step. A nasty shiver had started to set in, taken ahold of his jaw and hands to the point he could barely hold on to his broom, let alone utter a word from between the clanking of his teeth. He hated it. Hated this castle. Hated the gloomy hallways and the worn down cobblestone walls. Hated the hideous black robes everyone was wearing. Hated their language. Hated the fact he hadn't been able to hold down anything more than water for the past ten hours. Hated how the ground swayed under his feet with every step he took.

And he hated, he hated, the water. From beside him, threats McGee was leading him down a dark hall with a purpose in her step. "Where is you taking me?" he half growled, half shivered. His boots felt like they'd been filled with led.

entering the Hospital Wing
with Archer

Cassie wished she'd payed more attention when Scarlett had shown her around Hogwarts a little over a year ago. If she had, maybe she'd know where she was going now. All she could remember of the elusive Hospital Wing was the fact that it was on the third floor. Or maybe it was on the fourth? Cassie's brain was a little numb - matching her hands, which were experiencing that strange feeling you get when the temperature suddenly rises and whatever produces your body heat hasn't quite realised yet. The result was that Cassie just really, really wanted a new set of clothes (which was near-impossible right now since all of her clothes were at the Campgrounds), a hot shower (or bath, in the case that Hogwarts didn't have showers), and some hot chocolate. Meanwhile, her current companion (if you could call Little Miss Murder a 'companion') was severely in need of something to keep away pneumonia, or at the very least the inevitable cold which surely came after falling into a freezing lake.

As they hurried through the corridors, the two sopping wet kids drew a lot of stares from various curious Hogwarts students. Since none of them offered anything to help, Cassie ignored them. It was a surprise when Artemis finally spoke through chattering teeth. "Hospital Wing," she said shortly. "If I can find it." And find it she did. The sight of the warm room filled Cassie with a sort of hope as the two came through the door, but... "What now?"

Archer had stopped halfway through their walk to peel off the wet Durmstrang robes sticking to his skin. They were heavy and cold, slowing him down rather than doing anything remotely helpful. "What is that?" he said, his tongue struggling over the rounded english vowels, words coming out sharp and clumsy. "Hospital Wing?". The chattering of his teeth didn't make him easier to understand either. It was like holding a conversation with a bear, if the bear was soaking wet and demanding blood.

On any other day, Archer would have been perhaps a little more graceful, even if it was on land. He did better in the air, it was true. But today of all days, his feet simply refused to go where he wanted them to. It wasn't really a surprise when he came to stumble into Threats, after the girl had stopped in the doorframe of a room.

He threw up his arms reflexively to brace, desperately trying to put space between him and Threats before they collided.

"Гавно1" Archer hissed, taking a step back. "I am apology" If he went to sleep today without emberassing himself further, he'd consider it an accomplishment. Archer cringed, adjusting his grip in his broom.

sitting down and
being magically dried by a house elf

Since the Durmstrang student obviously didn't understand or speak English very well, Cassie would have to try and speak simply in order to make translation easier. That, or she could attempt to utilise the tiny (as in, five words at the most) amount of Russian she'd picked up from hanging around with Charles and Ro. After Artemis' question, she figured she might as well try. So, she squinted into the distance as she often did when she was thinking, paused for a moment to remember the word and the pronunciation, and then opened her mouth. "дверь door," she said in the most un-Russian accent Artemis had probably ever heard speaking Russian. Help. That was what she'd said as an explanation of the Hospital Wing - or, at least, that was what she thought she'd said. She had no idea she'd managed to mix it up with the word for door, but Artemis probably would. "Hey, do you speak French?"

When Cassie stopped in the doorway of the Hospital Wing, she felt something stumble into her - Artemis. "It's fine," she said, waving off the other's apology and moving so they could both get through the door. "I guess now we just-" But she had no time to finish her sentence, because a house-elf (really? Hogwarts used house elves too? Cassie hated that) rushed up to them and lead them both to some chairs. A click of the house elf's fingers dried the pair off, leaving them with only the cold to deal with. The house elf hurried off to get some sort of potion, Cassie presumed. "So, Little Miss Murder, is permanently ruining someone's vocal chords your normal response to taking a swim?" Cassie's vocal chords were fine - it was her throat that still hurt a little - but maybe Artemis had ruined someone's voice before, who knew?

Archer stared blankly at the girl, as she spouted more english words he didn't understand. Her voice had changed, growing faster and sharper, taking on the accent of another school. The boy sighed, giving her a blank stare. "I am no talk tongue," he said slowly. He didn't have time to say anything else before a house elf marched them into the room and sat them down. A second later, whatever water had still been clinging to his skin disappeared in a cloud of mist.

Archer let out a relieved sigh, sliding down in his chair. He was still cold and whatever had been in the algae at the bottom of the lake had left deep red marks wrapped around his legs and torso. But that was a problem for future Archer. Current Archer had stolen a blanket from one of the hospital beds and wrapped it around his shoulders. After a moment's hesitation, he stretched over and grabbed one for Threats as well, tossing it in her general direction. "It is not..." he coughed. "Bath is for clean. Lake is for die." He grimaced, setting his broom down. He'd been holding it in a death grip for the past few minutes, as if afraid someone would try and take it from him. "I am fear water is deep"

attempting to
communicate

[quote]Nah, Artemis obviously didn't understand French after all. "Oh," Cassie said, feeling a little annoyed they couldn't talk properly before she dismissed the emotion. Well, that was fine. The two could communicate in two word phrases with bad grammar. As long as the kid didn't start brandishing her wand everywhere again, that was fine with Cassie. She rubbed the spot on her neck that Artemis had jabbed her wand at. It was feeling a lot better now than it had then, but it still hurt a little, and Cassie was still wary of Artemis because of it. Even if the Durmstrang student had apologised after realising Cassie was from the Beauxbatons and not Ilvermorny, it had been proved that Artemis had a temper and Cassie didn't particularly want to die today.

What she did want was a blanket, and she caught the one which Artemis threw at her and wrapped it around her. "Thanks." It wasn't a foil blanket (Cassie had always wanted to try one of those things) but it was still lovely and warm. Maybe it had some kind of warming charm placed upon it: the magical world was full of little tricks like that. Cassie then took a few moments to work out what Artemis was saying - she certainly had had experience with sentences like these when she'd first moved to France and her teacher had gotten her classmates to practice their English on her, but that had been years ago. "Yes." Probably best to stick with actual words rather than slang, Cassie decided. "Definitely deep." Then she jerked a thumb in the direction of the broom which Artemis had finally put down. "That your broom?"

"It is my love," Archer sighed, breaking out into a grin for the first time that week. The hysteria which had been bubbling up in her throat was starting to die down, and as warmth slowly sank into her bones, the girl's heart stopped pounding. "It cost big but it good broom. No throw me ever." He was glad he'd lost everything but the broom. At the end of the day, the bottom of the lake had only claimed his clothes. His heart and soul was still there, dripping wet under his chair.

Dripping, and probably going to mold if he didn't do anything about it. Archer groaned, wringing out his hair (alittlebit uselessly at that). It had tangled up into a mess of white and red streaks, and the red eyeliner he'd put on that morning had melted, smearing down his cheeks. All in all, the boy had looked better. But away from the depths of the lake, and whatever lurked beneath its black surface, life had returned to the racer.

Groaning like an old door on a stormy day, Archer slid off his chair and gingerly picked up the broom, using his sheet to dry it off. He was on his knees, lovingly running the cloth between the tiny branches, getting into all the grooves and between the edges. "I leave mark on you." Archer said sullenly, gesturing to the bruise darkening on her skin. "But you have already myriad marks. Why?"

talking and examining
her reflection

Cassie grinned when Artemis introduced the broomstick as her love. She could understand the feeling: for someone who really loved broomriding, your own broom could feel like your child or a really close friend. Despite the thing being as inanimate as a bicycle, Cassie did know someone who'd actually named their broom. Did bikers get the same feeling? Did horse riders? Maybe you got an attachment to an object (or animal, seeing as how horses probably didn't count as objects) after spending so much time using it, and after you'd gone through so much while doing so. Cassie certainly had something of an attachment to her own broom. It wasn't as good as the Durmstrang student's broom though. Cassie crouched down when Artemis did to inspect and dry the broom. She didn't doubt that it had cost a lot: she quickly identified it as a Moontrimmer. "Cool broom," she told the other broomrider. "I've got a Shooting Star." It was a pitiful broom when compared with the Moontrimmer, but you should never underestimate someone for how good or bad their broom was, right?

Deciding not to offer her own help unless Artemis asked for it (the younger kid looked like she knew what she was doing), Cassie took off her coat and sat back in her blanket while Charles' friend lovingly and carefully rubbed her broom dry. The Beauxbatons girl wasn't ready for the topic change but took it in her stride, discarding the word 'myriad' since she had no idea what it meant. Maybe it was Russian. "I do?" Cassie spied a mirror and wandered over to it, checking her reflection. Her jeans covered up the scab she'd had on her left knee for a few days without knowing why, but (as well as the lovely new bruise on her neck) there were a few old injuries that were visible. A plaster adorned her left elbow, the water causing it to make a valient effort to peel itself off. Cassie pulled the rest away quickly, wincing as it pulled at her skin. Below it, a scab had formed, presumably from the same thing (probably a fall) that had injured her leg. Despite wizarding medication working a lot better and faster than plasters, Cassie had never really gotten used to the idea of it. Plus, slapping a plaster on a wound was a lot faster than a trip to go get it magically healed. It confused some of her pureblood friends, but Cassie enjoyed confusing people with Muggle items. Other than this scab, her nose was a bit sunburnt and she had a paper cut on one of her fingers. Maybe there was another cut on the back of her neck or something that she couldn't see. Turning back to Artemis, Cassie shrugged. "Various stuff, I guess. I do broomracing, so..." It wasn't exactly the safest sport, but were there any safe sports in the wizarding world? Having so much medical equipment and magic on hand offered wixes a safety net that gave them the confidence to make their sports as interesting (and dangerous) as possible. Just look at the Hexiwizard! The last one had resulted in a death, and yet it was still going. If that didn't prove anything, Cassie wasn't sure what would.
