Dexter woke up, as he usually does to start his day. He put on a hoodie over his long-sleeved shirt and sweatpants even though it was really warm. It was a special preference of his. He sighed. It was Sunday, and instead of doing his work yesterday as he planned, he pranked two second years, a fourth year and a fifth year.
Today, he planned to actually do his work outside by the great lake. He would enjoy his work more if he had someone to work with. He grabbed some rolls of parchment, a quill and a few books he required and slowly went down the stairs. He crossed a teacher who told him if he didn’t do work today, he’d be in detention.
He went outside and sat down. He read the required pages of “Hogwarts: A History” and scribbled on his parchment. He then looked around after a half hour of working. On one, side, he saw a girl with blonde hair that was also working. On the other side was a girl with chestnut hair. Should I talk to them? He thought. But he didn’t want to bother anyone.
He picked up “The Book of Spells” and wrote on his other piece of parchment, but stopped. He brought his parchment and material with him to the girl on his right. “Hello,” He said, dropping a book. “My name is Dexter. Would you like to work together?” He thought it was kind of weird, as people normally like this were his pranking prey.

█Shanelle woke up on the peaceful morning, feeling slightly tired, but enthusiastic. She was excited to finally get some work done. A few Charms and Transfiguration assignments had been cluttering up, she needed to get those done.
The Gryffindor pulled on a comfy hoodie and a pair of leggings before making her way down to the Great Lake. It seemed like she had been visiting the grounds of Hogwarts a lot recently. Hugging her textbooks and stationery close to her chest, she strolled around the Great Lake. She enjoyed the soft bubbling sound that the water makes, it was comforting and the perfect studying background music.
Shanelle found a spot of grass with some shade and plopped down. She took a moment to admire the nature and fresh air around her before pulling her work out. The girl dipped her quill in ink before scratching words on the parchment. She wrote furiously, only pausing momentarily to think.
She was so focused on her work it took her a second to realise that someone was talking to her. “Oh, hey!” She turned around and spotted the dark haired boy behind her. “Hi Dexter, I’m Shanelle Meza, nice to meet you.” She stood up so she was standing right next to him. “Sure!” She patted to the seat next to her before sitting down again. She looked at Dexter. “So, what are you workin on?” She asked.

Dexter looked at the girl who replied, “Hi Dexter, I’m Shanelle Meza, nice to meet you.” Dexter could see her face now: Blue eyes, blonde hair. Dexter happened to think she was pretty. It’d be nice to make another friend. She then said he was allowed to work with her, so Dexter sat down next to her, ready to take learning seriously for today. He grabbed his parchment and his quill. He had to write a foot of homework.
“So, what are you workin on?” She asked Dexter. Dexter grabbed his books. “Well, I’m working on Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, and,” He sighed, “History of Magic.” Dexter had always believed History of Magic was the most boring class. He looked at his books, which were Hogwarts, A History, The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection, and Book of Spells.
“Defense Against the Dark Arts is the best class. Charms is a close second, but History of Magic, in my opinion, is worthless.” He liked things with action or thrills, rather than listening to or reading about what happened in 320 B.C. “What about you? What do you have to work on?” He asked Shanelle, wondering what it’d be.Word count: 201

█Shanelle smiled, trying to be friendly, as Dexter sat next to her. She was careful to come off as friendly and nice, rather than weird. The boy next to her pulled out his parchment and quill and began to work. Feeling like she should be working on her own stuff, the gryffindor dipped her quill in the inkpot and placed it on the parchment.
She didn’t finish the sentence when she paused again to answer Dexter’s question. “I can totally agree. DADA is my favourite, Charms and Transfiguration are second to me. And honestly, I hate History of Magic, and Herbology too! Those are so dumb.” She stressed, rolling her eyes.
The gryffindor hated to listen to the professor drone on and on in History of Magic, and she found Herbology just as boring as she had no interest in plants. “Me? I’ve got Charms and Transfiguration, which isn’t too bad, but still.” She groaned, flipping through the pages that she had to do. She estimated another hour or two before she gets through most of it.
“It shouldn’t take me forever, at least we have a couple of days before this is due.” She said, pointing to her work. She was aware that there was other work due, but those weren’t for another week.
