Professor of Herbology's Office
By no means was Tuesday J. Irons an organized man. Yet, upon entering the man's office and workspace, the whole area was messy. A flood of papers, notepads, pencil illustrations of plants, and several books(some textbooks, others of the journal variety) sat scattered across the desk. The majority of the papers were handwritten notes, though several seemed to be annotated intellectual works. There were only two books that stood out from the mess that some would call a workspace. The first was a brightly colored pink book with a single man on the cover who tangled up within a dangerous-looking flower's elongated stamen. Its title is displayed across the top of the cover; 'Flesh-Eating Trees of the World; Volume 3'. The second was a much more well-known work; it was a thick tome with well worm pages, and the title read 'Goshawk's Guide to Herbology.' The text in itself dwarfed the oxford dictionary.
Something about the room gave off the vibe that the room was lifted right out of a 40's noir film. Maybe it was the corkboard that sat behind the desk or the chalkboard that had been fastened on the small room's adjacent side. Pinned on the corkboard was a mix of newspapers clippings, pages that had been ripped from books, and photographs. Multiple images contained the likeness of rare plants in the wild, while others were headshots of people, which gave off a more ominous feeling. Finally, a small scrap of paper was tacked on the bottom right corner of the board as if it was the latest addition. The slip appeared moderately unworn, yet it had been folded in half on several occasions, so there was a pronounced crease down the center. The scrap read as follows;
The office itself was attached to the first greenhouse, which housed the more ordinary plants. Three glass panes and a single glass door was the only thing separating the nice and cozy office to the humid yet pleasant air in the conservatory. The potted plants that sat just outside the windows of Tuesday's office, pressed up against the glass itself. So if someone were to look out from his office, they would only find a menagerie of shrubs and flowers springing to life just outside the office doors. Those who would look through the glass would find a solid oak door on the opposite side. The door for the majority of the time would be left open so that a cozy-looking bedroom could be seen. The bedroom itself was unremarkable, as it was fairly utilitarian in nature.[font=Segoe script]MB3 LM2 MM1 LM2 MM1 LT2 LM2 MB3

Those who would enter Professor Irons' sanctuary inside the sanctuary would find the man lazily scribbling something onto parchment with quill in hand. Everyone and anyone walking through his door would be greeted with a warm, "Hi there." The words would be spoken with a small smile, "What can I do for ya?"

Noah Jupe was walking down to the Herbology Greenhouse, for his Herbology lesson, but he couldn't find the professor. He was one who loved plants and wanted to further his education on it, but it seemed that he was also a dueller. It was of expectations that Noah knows how to fight. But he wanted to get to know the Herbology Professor, and maybe see if they are doing certain things that they didn't do last year. Or, maybe, an extension of what they did. He thought it was alright to leave his robe behind. So, he left on his sophisticated shirt he had underneath. Well, and his pants too.
"P- Professor Tue-tuesday? I- I mean, Professor Irons? Um- can I- uh, ask you a few questions?"
Noah looked up, his eyes a bit baggy. He was bound to be perplexed.
"I- I want to know about you. Where did you come from? Your accent is not of British, it seems foreign. I'm interested. Another question," Noah took a few minutes of a pause.
He started back up again as a few more kids walked down to where they were having class. "Are we going to learn something to do with plants? I really want to! I already know all about the Muggle plants, and now, I want to know everything there is to know about the Wizarding World crops. Can you teach me?"
Noah hesitated, before providing his last question. "Can- um- this is hard for me to say- do you- I mean, Can you be my mentor?"
His face immediately turned bright red, brighter than a tomato. Noah waved his wand around, not thinking of any spell and wasn't going to say any spell. "Did you know that my wand tends to provide support, or just knows that my proficiency would be in Herbology, or herbs? What happened this summer, with my brothers, is the reason why I love your class, I was able to heal the wounds inflicted upon my brother and friend."

On this breezy Sunday, Willow decided to head down to one of her favorite places. The Herbology Classroom, or well Professor Irons' office. Since she couldn't exactly access the classroom on a Sunday. She hadn't really had one-on-one time with Professor Boniface before he left, so she wanted to get in early in Professor Irons' career before he dropped off the face of the earth as professors did sometimes. If someone didn't know where to look, they might actually miss where his office entrance was as the entrance was absolutely covered in plants, which was ideal. But, luckily she had been taking Herbology for 3 years and knew that it was at the back of the first greenhouse.
She would knock but it was pointless because he could see her coming as the door was glass. His presence was warm, and it was a welcome change from some of the colder professors. In some ways he reminded her of her dad, if he was a wizard and herbologist. "Hi Professor Irons, I just had a couple questions for you really quick." Instead of standing at the entrance, she walked in and admired the warmth and atmosphere of the office.
I know I'm only a third year, but I was wondering uh... how does one get your kind of job? Not that I want to steal your job, I am... only thirteen. But, I don't know. I thought about maybe being a healer or maybe something in divination, but I really do enjoy plants but don't know what it takes to like- be an herbologist? In the muggle world or the wizard world." She took a deep breath as she finished her speech and smiled, strained and awkward. It was obvious her practice speeches had not gone like this on her way over.

Tuesday sat casually at his desk, his face buried into 'Flesh-Eating Trees of the World; Volume 2'. The man could probably already recite the entire three-volume series word for word at this point, but some say that the tenth time through is better than the ninth. The professor couldn't resist the temptation.
The light tapping of shoes against the solid floors of his conservatory drew his attention away from the world of trees with predator-like tendencies and into the comfortable air of his office. A student he hadn't had only some interaction with stood there at his glass-paned entryway. "Oh, Willo'." The man smiled at the girl with a light and welcoming smile. His accent wasn't noticeable against his words, and with the melodic way he spoke almost made it seem like he was singing the words he spoke. "What can I do for ya?" The prefect had walked further into the room as he spoke. Thankfully some students could tell that he didn't mind company in his office. Anybody was welcome when his door was open.
The questions were a pleasant surprise for Tuesday, considering he had mainly been a subject of suspicion for the students. Or at least one particular Ravenclaw student with a habit of overusing pepper spray. "Oh, I don' know if you know, but I wasn't a herbologist in my professional life." His choice to join law enforcement had been a pivotal moment, but herbology was something he studied, even in his life as an Auror. "I decided to become an Auror. However, there were still many uses for the subject in my career." The man had to stop himself from bringing up the more gritty uses of these magical plants and continued nonetheless, "With that being said, herbology takes a lot of patience. My parents were Herbologists who focused on poisonous, venomous plants and had some form of sentience. They spent hours observin' and testin' these plants to find the secrets they hold within their biology. I was lucky enough to have a..." Another pause, "Another benefactor vouch for my position here. So the best that I can say is that you must really care about treating these plants and raising them with love." Hopefully, that satisfied Willow because, at the bare minimum, he wanted to help his students to cultivate their love of this Herbology.

It came as a decent surprise to Willow that Professor Irons wasn't actually an herbologist before this. She really thought that Professors were the experts of the experts in their field. Not that he wasn't knowledgeable, but it did change the way Willow thought that Hogwarts hired their Professors. Even more, Willow didn't completely understand what an Auror was. She knew what they did, but not what they did. The Ministry of Magic was a confusing warehouse of jobs that she didn't completely understand. Really she felt unequipped to become a wizard adult, but perhaps that would change over the next four years of her schooling.
"Aurors are kinda like- police officers right? How did plants come in handy? I've never heard of muggle officers bringing plants with them on the job, but I know our plants aren't as interesting." At the mention of his parents studying plants her eyes seemed to light up. "I'm not like- as advanced as them or anything but..." Willow pulled out a journal where the pages were full of information about plants, mostly magical but some mundane. There were rubbings and dried leaves taped to the pages. Her own sketches with information about how to grow the plant, where to find it, and its uses. "Me and my parents really um, like plants I guess you could say. So I've been doing this since I was really little. I feel like I unlocked a whole other world when I found out that there were new plants to learn about. Does an herbologist just study plants? I know you teach about them, but do they do anything else?"
Willow wasn't particularly interested in being a researcher. While she loved learning about them, she wanted to use them for practical applications. Which might involve researching in some ways. For the most part, she just didn't know what she wanted to do at all. But this was at least a good start.
