It's Not Fair. Solo Finished

It was late. A little too late in the night for Rosie to be out, but regardless, the young Hufflepuff was trekking down the grass with a woolen gold wrap around her shoulders. Her light brown curly hair blew softly in the chilly breeze, and her eyes were cold as they stared at the path in front of her. It had been a rough night for the twelve year old. She had gotten a letter back from her father after he had sent one earlier in the month. Rosie was excited! It had been a long time since she spoke with him, or anyone from home in general. Hopefully her parents had read the notes to Benny out loud. That was mentioned in the letter.

But that was a small section compared to the bomb that her father had dropped onto her life just through a quill.

The letter was pretty nice so far, her father talked about how much he missed her, how Benny was healthy, how Mr. Fluffers was as fluffy as always. (Their cat.) But towards the end of the letter, it started to take a sad and shocking turn.

... Although Rosalina, you know we never keep things from each other. Not ever. But it breaks my heart to have to tell you this through letter, I didn’t want you to have an unpleasant surprise when you arrived back for the summer. Your mother and I were struggling to stay together, every conversation turned into an argument, and it was constant struggle and the stress became too much for us. We’ve separated, and signed divorce papers. Your mother has moved away recently, not too far away, and she let me take custody of Benjamin. Again I’m sorry you had to find out this way, sweetheart. Your mother loves you very much, but it became too much for us to stay in the unhealthy relationship.
I’ve met someone else, he’s a man. He’s utterly wonderful, and I think you’ll like him. He hasn’t moved in, he’s just… A boyfriend, right now. Sometimes he reminds me of you. But anyway, I hope the journey you’ve gone on in Hogwarts was fulfilling, I miss you so much. Benny does too, he loves your letters. This school is somewhere you’ll be going to for years to come, darling. It will only become more challenging henceforth. But for now, I’ll be waiting in London for your return.
Yours truly,
Eren Parker, AKA Dad

It was devastating. Why. Why. Why. Why did she leave? What happened? Rosie was probably too young for her father to tell her. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t. Some new guy could never take her mom’s place. Never. The letter made Rosie clench her fists so hard that her knuckles turned white and her cheeks were bright red. She had stormed out of her dorm room faster than she could think.

Now, she was by the Great Lake, the water gave her some sort of comfort. Rosie’s face was tear stained, she hadn’t even been hiding the fact she was crying. Who wouldn’t? Her socks were dirty and wet from walking across the grass, it had rained earlier, but Rosie couldn’t have cared less. She was still in her uniform, the wrap around her shoulders to shield her from the cold night. Rosie finally approached the edge of the lake, and looked out at the view, a few more tears falling. She was going to go home to something entirely different. No mom. An empty room. Her dad probably put away photos to hide the reminders. It wasn’t fair. Rosie had no say, would she be still able to see her?

Rosie sat on the edge of the water, sticking her feet into the water. Yes. Socks and all. The breeze blew through her hair as Rosie’s green eyes looked over the horizon. Her tears had stopped, and her face reached a point of a drained state. She had cried for a little too long, and now she was just… Tired. Rosie was tired of everything.

The lies.

The unpleasant surprises.

The abandonment that she never asked for.

She was being a little over dramatic, but she hadn’t felt this low in ages. Rosie knew this would take a toll on her in the few days to come. She just hoped that it wasn’t so obvious. She hoped nobody saw her with her head down.

Rosie hoped nobody saw her as weak.
