Well, that was slightly nauseating, Avery thought to herself as she turns down the hall towards the library, after watching two older students suck face. She checked her watch and slowed down slightly. She can make her classmate wait. Even though they had all of the class hour to complete the paper, Avery's potion's partner, Draven, spent the entire time daydreaming about Valentine's day and some girl. After about 10 minutes of trying to get his thoughts on love potions and if they should be made illegal, Avery just gave up and pulled out her book, attempting to tune out Draven's lovesick ramblings.

Avery opens the door to the library and begins to look around for Draven, searching for a hint of his raven black hair. The library is decently empty, it is a Friday evening and many students have practice for sports or meetings for assorted clubs. Avery sighs, she showed up 5 minutes late and Draven is not here.

After walking over to a table near the potions section, Avery sets down her book bag and pulls out the page of notes and rubric for the assignment. She begins making a to-do list for the evening, trying to split the work somewhat evenly between the two students. When done, she simply waits.

Draven was late - something he'd tried to make a habit off recently. After all, if he was early, it meant he had nowhere else to be.

Coming late had certain perks. One of them was getting to sneak up on unsuspecting friends, who were innocently doing their homework, head bowed low over parchment paper and quill scritch scratching in the silence of the library. Funny, it seemed Draven spent a disproportionate amount of time in the library, even for a Slytherin.

He'd memorized a few nooks and crannies hidden away from the unsuspecting eye. And Avery Gallows was sitting right beside one of them, her back to one of the massive pillars which disappeared above their heads.

Draven stepped lightly, heart hammering in his throat as he tiptoed closer and closer to his friend. He almost did it.

Something made her look up. Maybe it was intuition. Maybe it was the wooden plank he'd stepped on, which had given a monumental creek that could have woken the dead. Either way....he had to lean into it.

His hands went to clamp down on Ave's shoulders. "B o" he grinned at her flinch. "Fancy seeing you here Ms. Gallows. You're in my spot."

The girl, well she was simply becoming frustrated. She glances up from her parchment, cracks her neck, and before leaning back down, catches a glimpse of raven colored hair in the corner of her vision. She anticipated him coming, yet was still slightly shocked when he placed a hand on her shoulder, causing a small flinch and large eye roll to come from Avery.

"You're late Draven, first come first serve." Avery scooches her chair over though, making room for her partner to sit down in the chair next to her.

Avery smiles at him. Unlike the majority of mooney-eyed girls in their class, Avery has not, and will never, fall for Draven's charms and good looks. Something about his flippancy, his sense of humor, it makes for a good friend, but somehow, deep down, Avery knows that anyone who ever loves him in any romantic way, will only be hurt. That being said, she sees a kindred spirit in the boy. His love of literature, his gentle passion and consistent polietness, it is like he is simply a more scared version of her. She holds this smile, "Did you get lost in the halls or in your daydreams?" she asks him, though she already knows the answer, for his answer would be the same one she would have, the one of utopias and clearheadness, the answer of happiness.

"I got lost in your eyes, Ms. Gallows," he said, picking up her hand and placing a gentle kiss to the back of it, a charming smile playing at his lips. "It's wonderful to see you, as always." She was still in his spot...Draven smirked, slowly moving the parchment paper from under her hands, and setting it on the opposite side of the table - just a little too far to reach, unless she got up.

Her inkwell and quill followed, carefully placed just far enough away to annoy her. "Don't you see, Ms. Gallows?" he asked pleasantly. "I always get what I want. And right now, I want my spot back." Her chair itself was tapped with his wand, and floating steadily in the air - girl and all, it descended to the opposite side of the table. He was enjoying wingardium leviosa a little bit too much....

Grabbing a chair from another reading nook, Draven sat down, opening his messenger bag and pulling out his own History textbook. It was the one class he was struggling with, homework slowly having started to pile up as he left it undone in favor for other, more interesting, subjects. "What are we doing?"

He's bluffing. Over the few months she has known him, Avery has picked on a few of his habits, the main one, of course, being deflecting. Someone asks him a real question, he answers it with a joke, someone is being serious, he tries to get them to smile. It annoys the living daylights out of Avery.

She looks at him, eyes narrowed, lips pursed, and rolls her wrist to crack it, "Oh shush Draven, and I swear to..." Avery never got a chance to finish that threat, as she saw his wicked grin coming her way as he snatched the paper out of her hands. Her eyes narrowed even more, resembling that of a snake for which her 'friend's' house holds dear. Before she had the chance to hiss, become even more animal-like than she was at the moment, her chair began to lift, and instead of an animalistic noise, a girlish shriek came out, earning the two first years some glares from those around them.

Avery takes the next few moments to catch her breath, and regain her composure. She raises an eyebrow as Drav pulls out his history textbook, "An assignment on Amortentia, but it looks like you would rather do history work.".

"I would rather pluck my own eyes out and feed them to Deimos than do history work, Ms. Gallows" Draven said pleasantly, as the spider peaked out from his breast pocket at the girl before him. Deimos was still a baby by all standards, but how he managed to fold the entirety of his body in order to fit into Draven's pocket had remained a mystery; one Draven wasn't about to mess with by attempting to slide his fingers into said pocket.

And despite that, history work awaited. Something or other about a soap tornado. Draven couldn't say he was particularly interested in the subject. Pulling an inkwell and a set of beautifully sharpened quills from inside his bag, the boy flipped open the textbook, a grimace gathering across his cheeks. Give him herbology, or dada, or literally anything but history and astronomy, and he wouldn't have complained. But there was something just so incredibly mind numbing about the subject it drove him to tears.

"I love the teacher, hate the teachings." Draven sighed, uncapping the inkwell. "I don't see how sitting in a dusty room studying the 'The Soap Blizzard of 1378' is going to make us better at magic."
