backdated to Easter break
Getting dressed, Bailey slipped on a blue and silver skirt, white blouse and a Ravenclaw sweater. Putting on her black boots, Bailey also clasped a silver necklace around her neck and slipped on several silver rings with blue gems. She felt like dressing up a little, despite the fact that it was Easter break. She had gone home for a few days, but her mum and brothers were going on a trip to visit her grandparents in Poland and her dad had work, so she had come back to school.
Deciding to go to the library, Bailey headed to breakfast first. Sitting down to eat her bowl of chocolate puff cereal, Bailey pulled out a book to read.
Finishing up her breakfast Bailey swung her bag over her shoulder. Pulling out the books she had just finished, she dropped it off at the library and then went to find a new book. Wandering the shelves, Bailey only saw a few people there. Deciding to go sit down, Bailey grabbed a book and headed to the comfy chairs and pulled one out.
Sitting down, Bailey put her bag next to her and opened the book.

Amber didn't see the need to go home during the Easter break at all. It wasn't like her family celebrated it or anything, and her parents had been more than fine with her staying at school. She would take it as an opportunity to improve her skills as a witch. Well, that had been the plan. For the first few days, she had lazed around the common room or explored the school grounds instead. She had some homework she knew she had to do, so maybe today she could force herself to go to the Library.

She dragged her school bag with her, surprised to see just how many other students had sought refuge here. Most of them were, predictably, from Ravenclaw house. That didn't mean she didn't see some from Slytherin or Hufflepuff as well. It seemed like Gryffindor's were the house least in attendance. This didn't bother Amber, however, she was confident she could make new friends if she needed to sit with someone outside her house.

Luckily, she found a comfy looking chair that was free, and she raced over to claim it, dumping her bag on the seat first. After doing this, she noticed the girl sitting in an identical chair right next to it, "Sorry," She whispered, a sheepish smile on her lips, "Just wanted to make sure I could get a spot to sit and do homework." Amber swapped places with her bag and then glanced at the girl again, "I'm Amber, by the way."

With that introduction, she offered her hand for the girl to shake - if she wanted to.

Sitting, reading, Bailey felt some inner peace. When the girl came up to sit next to her, Bailey was happy to have someone to talk to. Almost of here friends had gone home for the break, so having the opportunity to talk to someone new and the chance to make a friend was great.
The girl was skinny, with pale peachy skin, brunette hair that was long and braided. Her eyes were dark, and her face was speckled with freckles.
The girl had dumped her bag, seeming to reserve it before realizing that Bailey was there. When she say Bailey, she whispered sorry and that she was trying to reserve a spot for to work on homework.
As the girl switched spots with her bag, she said her name was Amber and she stuck her hand out to shake.
Bailey shook Amber’s hand, and introduced herself. She said “It’s all good. My name is Bailey. Bailey Glade. What brings you to the library today? You said you were here to do some homework. Is it for any particular class?”
While waiting for a response, Bailey smiled at the girl as she settled back into her chair.
Bailey tried to be calm, hoping to give off a calming presence.

Bailey Glade - what a lovely name. It really did sound magical, in itself. "Nice to make your acquaintance, Bailey." She settled into her chair and let out a soft sigh. Maybe it was the library or something else, but she felt relaxed all of a sudden. Amber didn't put too much thought into it as she took out her History of Magic textbook - which half answered Bailey's question.

"History of Magic, I have to write an essay about the effect the last goblin rebellion had on the economy in the wizarding world." Which was okay - So, Amber wasn't the best at writing essays, but she was okay with remembering dates. And useless facts not related to her homework at all. "Do you know much about goblin rebellions and all that?" She had noticed the girl was wearing her Ravenclaw jumper - so that meant she had to be smart, right?

Amber wasn't going to make the girl do her homework for her, but having a bit of help to make sure her essay made sense would be nice. She wasn't sure how to ask the girl but charged on anyway, "Are you any good at writing essays? Any tips would be awesome, really. I always seem to forget to add something - last time it was my introduction!" What a silly thing to lose marks for, and yet. Amber let out a soft laugh. She was aware they had to be quiet, but it was more than that.

She didn't want to be her usual, loud, boisterous self right now either. It was different, but not in a bad way. Was there a spell cast on the library?
notes: thanks for letting me know, i'll take that into account going forward!

Blushing when Amber complementd her name, Bailey smiled and said softly, “Thanks! You name is really pretty too!”
When Amber said that she was still studying for History of Magic, Bailey responded with a simple “Neat. Do you like that class?”
Then amber asked if she knew anything about goblin rebellions. Bailey unfortunately did not remember what she had learned on them last year, and said “Not really I studied them last year. I might have my notes back in my dorm though.”
After than Amber asked for tips for writing essays.
“Well… I’m not the best at writing, but my mum was an English major in college and she is the one who taught me so maybe something I say will be help. So…. Maybe try and start with an outline? And add more stuff like details as you go along. Does that make sense? And also as you go through the lesson write down just little notes that will remind you of what you were taught, and it will maybe make note taking easier.”
Trying to remember everything her mum had taught her, Bailey thought I really hope this is helpful… I would hate to be a nuisance

"Yeah it's okay. I find it a lot easier than practical classes, honestly. I'm kinda bad at spells and potions." Amber admitted with a sheepish grin. Hopefully she would get better in time. It sucked being a half-blood witch but having a hard time with classes. It wasn't fair. Amber knew if she studied more, or had more interest in practising, she would improve faster. She just wasn't academically inclined like that.

Amber listened as Bailey explained about writing essays, marvelling at the Ravenclaw, "Is your mum a Muggle then?" Since she mentioned learning English - that was a Muggle subject. "But that's useful info, writing out a plan beforehand... I never thought to do that." Why didn't they get taught how to do that in class? Teachers just said here's your homework, write an essay, have fun. No help on how to write said essay.

She was glad she had sat next to Bailey now. Amber got to work with writing out a plan for her essay, opening her History of Magic book so she could write down dates and other things she wanted to include in her essay. "Phew... You know, this is going a lot easier than it normally does." She grinned, checking over her work so far. Now she just had to write the actual essay.

Bad at spells and potions… join the club Bailey thought.
She then said “Every one has the things they are good at and the subjects they are not so good at. For example, I am horrible at flying. I just… it doesn’t work.
Having no experience, due to being a muggle Bailey had really struggled with learning about the history and other things that scientifically should never be possible.
“It can be a struggle- but you will get through it.” Bailey said and then blushed. She had just meant to think that, not say it.
When Amber asked if her mum was a muggle, Bailey smiled and answered. Many people seemed surprised that she was muggle born. “Yes she is- and so is my father. I’m fully a muggle born. And I’m not mad about that- I’m glad I have the chance to come study here though.”
Deciding to ask what Amber’s heritage was, Bailey said “How about your parents? Are they magical? And do you have any siblings or relatives that have come to Hogwarts?”
As Amber made progress on her outline, she seemed to be having an easier time than usual. “I’m glad that helped! And I’m sure now the actual writing will be easier!”
