Pure Blood Princess and the Gnome Finished

The morning letters were always a mystery to Eris. There was nobody to send her letters, due to her father's apparent recovery, and her mother's negligence and banishment from society. Today was the same as every other day. The owls flew in, and Eris looked down at her bacon, knowing there would be nothing for her. But, differently than every other day, a letter dropped down into Eris's lap. The girl looked up, to see a regal white owl flapping away. Curiosity peaked, Eris looked down at the letter in her lap. Devoid of anything but her name and a large coat of arms, there was nothing showing the identity of the writer on the envelope. Perhaps it was Colette Arvis, whom Eris had been in contact with enough to know the woman's eccentric methods of communication.

Opening the envelope, and pulling out the letter, Eris forgot her bacon completely as the words of the letter sunk into her brain, filling her with simultaneous conflicting emotions of giddiness and worry. Eris read the letter over trice, before truly processing the contents.

Esteemed Granddaughter,

I send this letter in the hopes you will receive it well, in the manner that a true Fawley heir would. If I do not get a response back, I will assume that you are designing yourself to go down the path of your ghastly mother. If you choose not to ignore this letter, than I welcome you into the Fawley family with open arms, granddaughter.

Your father is recovering, and speaks highly of you. From what he tells us, you seem a charming girl, admittedly, this is only because you seem to rebel against your mother's rules, from what your father can recall. Although we, as a family, are disappointed that you have not been sorted into Sytherin, it is not a fault of yours. It, is indeed a fault of your mother. It is her wickedness that has shaped you into the person you are today, without knowledge of the wizarding world or the pure blood title that has been bestowed in your name. Do not fear though, there is hope for you, yet.

You are at school right now, thus, I cannot aid you in discovering your title and true Do not worry heedless, my child. There are other students at the school, who are perfectly groomed examples of what a pureblood can be. One of these upstanding children is Katerina Petrov. You may of heard of her family in the muggle world, due to her mother's wonderful company, NATALI. I ask you to seek this girl out, and to ask for her aid in learning about the proper etiquette benefiting a young woman of the Tucker, Rowle, and Fawley families. If you cannot find the Petrov girl, there are always other pure blood children to talk too, however, I would prefer if you didn't talk to the likes of Max Avery and Phaedra Stavrou for advice. They may be upstanding, but they are not in Sytherin. Please try to go to Sytherins for most of your concerns and questions, as they are considered the superior house by many of our kind.

On a lighter note, if you are able to learn etiquette, we will be able to welcome you to the Fawley Manor this summer. I am convinced that you will be able to do this, and have absolute faith in you. A room will be prepared for you at the Manor, should you want it. However, as warned priory, if you chose not to learn etiquette, and to not reply to this owl, your rights to a room in the manor will be forfeited, and I will assume you are returning to your blood traitor of a mother. I hope you come to your senses, and chose to join us in the Fawley manor.

Sincerely,
Demetra Fawley
Auror and Matron of The Fawley Family
Her grandmother had written to her, and was offering her a place at her Manor. That meant no living on the streets, only if she was able to find out what pure blood etiquette was. Evidently, Eris was too giddy and nervous to question how her grandmother was aware of her house, or why she disliked it. Her thoughts were already focused on the Petrov girl that her grandmother had spoken of. Naturally Eris, like most of the student population, was aware of who Katerina Petrov was. The girl was always clad in fancy outfits, benefiting a princess or royalty, not a student of Hogwarts. She was a sight to see on off days, when uniforms weren't required of students, outfitted in clothing that did not seem fitting of an 11 year old, no matter how wealthy. It was only natural that Katerina was to be Eris's guide to the pure blood world, if the girl chose to accept Eris's plead for help. Searching the great hall with imploring eyes, Eris found Katerina at once.

She was wearing an outfit that drew Eris, and most of the hall's eyes at once. Stiffing a sigh at the obvious attempt to get people to notice her with that outfit, Eris pushed herself out of her seat and stalked over to the girl. Honestly, if one wanted to be noticed, they might of done it through actions, not through loud clothing statements. Forcing herself not to go into the situation with her typical abrasive words and to act like the pureblood heir that her grandmother wanted her to be, Eris reached the girl and coughed, hopefully garnering Katrina's attention. "Hello, I'm supposed to request your advice in a few manners of pure blood etiquette. My grandmother, er" Eris looked down at the letter to remember her Grandmother's name, "Demetra Fawley speaks highly of you, and implores you to train me in the ways of pure blood manners. If you don't mind helping me.." Eris trailed off, suddenly questioning if her words had fallen upon unhearing words, or if she had came off too odd.

Time Stamp: Saturday morning in January, Breakfast.

𝓔veryday was different for Katya - or at least, that's how it felt. She had gone from her comfortable life in a chateau that could fit the entire school in its ballroom alone, to an actual castle in Scotland. Sure, there were still language boundaries with her accent and lack of skill when it came to the English language, but she seemed to be doing fine so far. Making friends was definitely difficult for her, most seemed to avoid her, but she tried her damned hardest. There wasn't much you could do when you were born in a small-ish Russian town, and were suddenly thrust into the United Kingdom.

𝓢he held one of her books - really, quite honestly, the potions text - close to her chest, hugging her arms around it. She was on her way to the Great Hall, and breakfast was in order. She went over to the Slytherin table, taking a seat at one of the ends of the great, long table that wasn't occupied at the moment. As it was a Saturday, she had been blessed with the option of not wearing her uniform, so instead she wore a 'simple' back dress, with white cuffs and a white collar. At the corners of the collar, gold embellishments flourished up and out, giving off a fancy sort of golden embroidery pattern. The skirt flowed out to her knees, and with it she wore a pair of simple black shoes.

𝓘t was one of the calmer outfits in her wardrobe, which had actually taken her a decent amount of time to put together. All her mother had designed and packed for her were very... extra. Katya had been right to expect it, but she had also expected to see some sort of trousers, or shorts.. any sort of pants really, yet she was stuck with dresses and skirts.

𝓢he had only just put her book down on the table next to her when a voice piped up behind her. It was safe to say that she had completely missed the cough, and her body jolted, the sudden speaking scaring her slightly. She hoped it hadn't been too noticeable, though if the other girl happened to be looking closely, then she would have noticed it. Katerina's eyebrow rose. She had no clue why this girl thought that Katya would help her, but at this rate, it wasn't going to happen.

𝓣he name Fawley had sparked the young girl's interest though. She had heard that name before somewhere, but she couldn't pick up on it. Regardless, the raven-haired Slytherin couldn't help but to burst into a small fit of laughter once the redhead had finished asking her the question. She almost got to the point of tearing up, but gripped onto the edge of the table, letting out a breath in hopes of calming herself down.

"𝓨ou think I teach you?" She asked, still not quite noticing how broken her English might seem to those who were native speakers. It wasn't at the point where she was embarrassed about it yet - no, Katya was much too confident for that - and it was May, so something good had ought to be going on for her one way or another. "Why would I do this?" She questioned right back at the girl. Her Russian accent was still thick, most likely due to her still not speaking much while attending Hogwarts. Not like she minded it though, she liked herself quite a bit.

"𝓦hat do I get out of it?"

The Russian accent was a slightly new challenge, and it was hard for Eris to understand what she was saying, eagerness to learn how to be a pureblood heiress making her more excited than normal .Eris had to pay close attention to the girl's words to understand the meaning behind her statement. Once understood, Eris regretted approaching her at once. Face heating up with the unmistakable signs of embarrassment, Eris took a deep breath. Attempting to cool her heating temper, Eris shook her leg against the floor in rapid succession, listening to the noise to calm the anger that was mounting by the moment. If the words hadn't been inclination enough of what the raven haired girl was thinking, the near hysterical laughter was. The sound turned Eris's scarlet face even more red, effectively mortifying the tiny girl within seconds, as the laughter rang in her ears even after it had ended.

What did she get out of it? Why was that a valid question that a child would ask to another child? Was it a typical Sytherin pure blood question, or was that just the girl's personality? Either way, the question took Eris off guard. She hadn't been expecting an answer that hostile and seemingly hilarious to Katerina, but honestly, the lack of civility in the raven haired girl's reply caught Eris more off guard than she'd like to admit. Her words left Eris feeling shock, and embarrassment that was growing by the moment, as she stood in front of the sytherin table. The way her grandmother had spoken of her fellow first year student, Eris had assumed that she was a princess with kind words and the willinngness to help out a fellow student. Or at least, that was what Eris had figured from the few sentences and her giddiness about a letter from her grandmother, and a future at the Fawley Manor. Anyone who was suited to helping Eris out than, even, Max or whoever Phaedra was, must of been a upstanding citizen. But clearly, not. Or at least, not at the moment.

If the girl didn't help Eris out, her grandmother wouldn't accept her at her home for the Summer Holidays. That meant Eris would have no place to go for the holidays, and thus, would be living on the streets again. Or worse, she'd be living with her mother. Both ideas were painful to think about, and found Eris cringing thoroughly. There was no alternative plan. It was all or nothing, and she simply had to move in with her grandmother. So how? Without the Petrov girl's help, there was no way to earn her grandmother's trust, nor her praise and eventual welcoming into her home for the summer.

"You don't exactly get anything out of it besides my gratitude?"Eris paused, trying to make her words sound dignified, but found herself without any ideas. What could she say to convince the impeccably dressed girl in front of her to help Eris out? "Look, I don't have anything to offer you. I just, I need help. It's the only way for me to get a home this summer."

Eris twisted her hands together, leg stopping her tapping on the floor as she looked at Katerina with imploring eyes. "Please." Not one for begging, Eris's face flushed even more red at her own words. Desperate times called for desperate measures.

𝓣he Slytherin girl rolled her eyes dramatically as the Gryffindor girl mentioned that she would have her 'gratitude'. Katya took the moment of pause to get in her own bit of words, "Yeah, because gratitude totally makes up for my time." She scoffed, turning around to look back at her food. There was no way she was going to help this Gryffindork mature up unless she got something satisfactory from it. For now, she didn't have a clue as to what it would be, but perhaps in the next few moments, she could figure it out.

𝓗er eyes rolled once more as she admitted to not having anything to offer her - like she didn't know that already. But if she wanted it bad enough, there should be something... She mentioned it being the only way to get a home for the summer, and with this Katerina quirked up an eyebrow, bringing her fork to her mouth in order to take a bite of food, meanwhile her posture still somehow remained perfect. Years of being trained by her mother to be prim and proper apparently paid off. She put her fork back on her plate, sliding the part she ate off of underneath the pile of fruit that she had to the side.

"𝓟lease don't get you anywhere," She laughed, shaking her head. She took her fork into her grasp once again then, stabbing a purple grape with it and putting it into her mouth, chewing and swallowing before turning back around to eye the girl, her eyes narrowed into slits. Her lips pursed together, and she tapped her nails on the surface of the wooden table. What could this girl give her that would be helpful? Her heart picked up in pace as she looked to her torso - more specifically, her waist, where a scar remained from an event that happened just a few weeks ago.

𝓝odding her head to herself, Katya made a decision. "Alright," She let out a breath, motioning to the seat next to her. If she were to sit down, Katerina would scootch over the slightest bit so that she would be sitting with her thigh pressed up right against Eris's, along with their arms. The Russian girl leaned in closely, "I need you to acquire some potion ingredients for me... the ones for a wolfsbane potion." She muttered, so quietly that she wasn't even sure if the redheaded girl could hear her.

"𝓘f you can do this for me, I help you. Yes?" She pulled back from the girl's ear, moving back over so that she was sitting in front of her plate correctly once again. She picked up her fork once more, picking up a small piece of watermelon with it and holding it up in front of her face. "Now, if you want to do this, meet me for your first lesson tomorrow. Library. Lunch." With that, she turned back to her plate, focusing on eating instead of the girl that was next to her.

Gratitude made up for time, didn't it? It had to count for something. It DID count for something in the minds of most people Eris knew. Not that she knew many people. But none the less, that wasn't the issue. Katya's refusal to help Eris was the main issue. Gratitude was good!Or at least, it earned friendships and acquaintanceship. That was important to most people. But apparently, words of gratitude did nothing to thaw the hearts of Sytherin girls with impeccable clothing. Small scowl growing marginally on Eris's face, the Gryffindor studied the eating Sytherin with a growing anger, that was growing harder and harder to quench with every easy motion the red grape made on it's path to the raven haired girl's mouth.

Eris wanted nothing more than to knock the grape and fork out of the ebony haired girl's hands, and start screaming at her to help Eris, no matter what she could 'get out of it'. But that was not forthcoming on any stances. It would not win Eris any points with the Sytherin girl, nor her Grandmother. Most importantly, it would not get her any closer to going to the Fawley Manor over the summer. Clenching her fists by her side until they turned red and yellow from the pressure mounting in the motion, Eris attempted to calm her explosive temper and the red haze that was starting to cloud her vision, as a result of the frustration that was flooding her senses due to Katya's unwillingness to help Eris out.

Just as Eris's rage threatened to spill over and erupt like particularly nasty volcano, the girl gestured for Eris to sit down next to her. Rage dwindling, replaced by a wary hopefulness, Eris took a step towards the Sytherin Table. Making sure nobody was around to spot the Gryffindor Chaser fraternizing with the Sytherins and sitting at their table, Eris stepped into the gestured spot on the bench, sitting down with a skeptical look. It was a fact that Eris Fawley just couldn't keep one emotion stagnant for more than a few moments. Her emotions changed faster than the speed of light, and this moment was no exception. Sliding into the seat next to Katya, vaguely aware of how close the two were, Eris listened to the Russian's muttered words.

Slowly, clarity cleared away the remaining drugs of anger lingering in her brain. The wolfsbane potion. They had learned about that in Herbology in one of the recent lessons, although the use from the spell was slipping Eris's mind. Closing her eyes for a split second, the girl focused on thinking, before letting out a small gasp of horror, that she quickly tried to hide with a cough. The potion was for Werewolves! The girl next to her was a werewolf, or had a friend that was a werewolf.

What were the ingredients of the Wolfsbane potion? Was Eris willing to risk getting detention to help the Sytherin out? The painful truth was that Eris was desperate enough to risk getting detention, if it meant going home to the family she had just learned about in passing. She would need to go find a book with the potions ingredients, and than would need to attempt to steal from the Potions Professor. It would be a hard task, but it would be fun, in the way that breaking rules always was.

The girl's lips pulled back in a smile, planning the excursion to the Potions store room. If there was one thing Eris loved, it was trouble. Although, the fear of detention clouded her mind, the contrasting joy of rule breaking was stronger. And the glee that filled Eris's mind at the idea of getting her lessons was enough to make anything seem possible, even facing the dungeons to steal potions ingredients.

Standing up with a screech as she moved away from the table, Eris forced a smile to her face. "Right. See you tomorrow." Eris turned to leave, before looking back at the girl one last time. Although she was asking something difficult of Eris, she had offered to help. That was better than nothing, and deserved thanks in it's self. "And thank you, I'll have your potion ingredients ready as soon as I can get them." With that, Eris turned away and walked out of the great hall, head racing with a plethora of ideas.
