Sophia watched the owls eating happily and sighed contently. This place was amazing. She'd had her reservations before coming to Hogwarts, namely in trying to accept the fact that she was a witch while also being a devout Catholic, but moments like this made it all worth it. Watching the cute little winged friends happily munching on the treats that she brought them always brought a big smile to Sophia's face.
"I think you did an amazing job and that you give yourself too little credit. These owls are smart. They won't calm down for just anyone, and they're amazing judges of character," she said matter-of-factly, still watching the owls in their happy little moment of their own.
She was ecstatic when her fist bump was returned, and she had to fight the urge to do a happy little hop where she stood. It wasn't often that she felt a connection like this. In fact, she could count the number of times she had on one hand. She shuffled closer to Gemima, grinning from ear to ear.
"You would have handled it just fine, I think," she said thoughtfully, "Like I said, the owls are smart. They'd have known that you mean well, and you'd have had no problem breaking up their little kerfuffle."
Sophia jerked slightly when she felt her hand in Gem's own. She wasn't used to physical contact. She'd certainly missed it. Looking at the hand, though, she was surprised to see a light bit of blood. That was strange. How come she hadn't noticed before? She frowned and watched Gem's hand pulling away with a bit of the blood smeared on the fingers. Oh jeez. This was embarrassing.
"Yeah, I'm okay, I just -," she began, looking up, but she was unable to finish her thought. When had they gotten so close? Before Sophia knew it, their noses were touching, and she didn't know why. She didn't understand anything in that moment, and Gem's next words were completely lost on her, but there was one thing she wanted to do more than anything, and her rosy cheeks were certainly an indication of that desire.
So she gave into her desires, pulling Gem into the tightest hug Sophia had had the pleasure of experiencing in years! She squeezed tightly and cherished the hug as one she would remember for years to come. She'd always been a hugger, and it was good to be back on the saddle.
When she finally pulled away, her face felt like she'd had a fever, and she felt uncomfortably dizzy. With a clumsy stumble backward - after which she luckily caught herself before she fell - Sophia smiled awkwardly at Gem, feeling very embarrassed all of a sudden.
"R-right, well, I should, uh, I should g-go. Lots of, er, lots of h-homework and all that, you know?" she stuttered as she slowly walked toward the exit, eyes still hyper focused on Gem. She only stumbled twice more as she made her way for the door, but she could blame that on false blood loss or something, so that was fine.
"B-bye," she muttered nervously. The thought that they were both in the same house, and likely heading to the same Common Room, didn't cross her mind.

Gemima was still holding the other girl's hand. Why are we so close all of a sudden?!She felt the gentle press of Sophia's skin on hers, and she could feel her warm breath on her neck. Gem's heart leapt into her throat, and she felt her face grow unbearably hot.
Her mind was swirling with fragmented thoughts, but she couldn't form a single coherent one. She didn't dare move. It was like her ever-busy brain had short circuited, right when she needed it most. Suddenly, she felt Sophia's hand on her shoulder, and then she was pulling them even closer together.
Gemima's eyes widened. Are we going to--??
The thoughts in her head turned frantic, and swarmed into one blaring alarm. "Wait--!"
Her nose was met with Sophia's shoulder. Gemima blinked in confusion. Then it dawned on her. This was a hug. She still felt rather frazzled, but she managed to bring a hand up to awkwardly pat Sophia on the back. Her heartbeat was still pounding in her ears, and her face might as well be steaming with how red it was.
Then, just as quickly as it had happened, it was over. Sophia almost tripped backwards. She gave Gem a lopsided smile. The two girls stood there for a few seconds with equally flushed faces.
"R-right, well, I should, uh," Sophia began skittering towards the tower's exit, "I should g-go."
"Yes, me too." Gemima breathed. Abort, abort! She immediately followed after the redhead.
"--Bye."
"--Bye!"
Gem allowed herself a quick nod at Sophia before she bolted down the tower stairs. When she was about halfway through, she heard footsteps clacking behind her. She groaned inwardly. Of course they would be heading the same way; they were both Ravenclaws! She racked her brain to think of another place to escape to...【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】@Sophia Nelson

Sophia felt embarrassment the likes of which she'd never experienced. She'd had so many hugs before tonight, so why was this one different? Why was she so flustered? Realistically, it was probably because she hadn't had a single hug - other than one from her grandma - since her parents died. She'd been emotionally alone for so long that this hug had simply overwhelmed her.
That certainly made sense, but that didn't explain why Sophia felt so pleasantly uncomfortable around Gem. She didn't understand her own feelings, and that was terrifying for her. She'd never felt so woozy around another person before, so she'd done what her every instinct told her to do. She'd fled, with her mind incapable of realizing that there was only one entrance to the Owlery, and she would have to share it to Gem during her escape.
As the two excused themselves and made their way down the cold stairs, their footsteps echoed in the silence. Sophia was sweating uncomfortably, and it certainly wasn't from any kind of heat. The tower's air was pleasantly cold on her burning skin. After a while, the silence was becoming unbearable.
"That was, uh," Sophia attempted awkwardly, but she didn't know what words she was even looking for. She just knew that the longer the silence went on, the hotter her face burned.
"That was a very good hug," she finally said with an embarrassed smile, looking away from Gem as the two walked down the stairs toward their Common Room.
The moment the stairs opened into an actual corridor, however, Sophia sprinted away as fast as her legs could take her, muttering something about 'finding the bathroom.' She liked Gem, sure, but she couldn't handle being alone with her for another moment.

Outfit: School robes and Sneakers【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】Gemima hurried down the steps as fast as possible, almost taking them two at a time. She shot that down fast though, not wanting to make an even bigger fool of herself. The hug was running through her head over and over. Could she have reacted differently?
What even was that pat? Ugh, it was so awkward! She'd definitely be thinking about the incident again later tonight.
She felt so stupid for even considering the possibility of a kiss. They had literally just met! The very notion was downright ridiculous. But what had even led her to think that thought in the first place? Did she... want Sophia to kiss her? Gem's speeding train of thought slowed for a moment. Well Sophia was really pretty, (those eyes!) but she hadn't given much thought to her own romantic preferences. It was too complicated, and messy. She'd seen enough of her older sister's whirlwind love life to know that.
Gemima flushed an even deeper red, and decided to chalk it up to the sheer strangeness and unpredictability of the situation.
Before she knew it, they had reached the bottom of the stairs. Sophia immediately shot off in the opposite direction down the corridor, muttering something about a bathroom.
Gem gave the retreating girl a halfhearted "Goodbye." before she started searching for entrance to the library in earnest. A good book and a squishy armchair was what she needed right now to settle her dilapidated thoughts.
And she didn't know what she'd do if she saw Sophia again. Although, she had a sinking feeling that their next meeting would be sooner rather than later.【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】@Sophia NelsonReducioto be continued! dun dun dun!
