"UP!"

The rest of her classmates seemed to mount their broomsticks with ease and began flying in the air. And then there was Shiawase . . . how was she supposed to do this? She gulped. It was so simple for everyone else . . . was it just impossible for her? She refused to believe that!

"Up!" The broom flew to her outstretched hand. Okay. Now what? Now what?! Shiawase frowned deeply. How would she get on? Ask someone to lift her onto her broom? No, that'd be so humiliating. She wouldn't ask for help in a million years, on anything. No one had to baby her! She was independent. Mature. She could figure this out.

"I'm sorry, broom. I'm sure you were expecting someone who could easily ride you, but you got me instead. Please, be patient with me and cooperate . . . I'll make it worth your while. I'll keep you in excellent repair."

She had no idea why she was talking to a broom. It felt really silly. But in a world of magic, how could she be sure brooms didn't have feelings? In any case, it was time to mount it.

She used her arms to lift up and back down, to the side of the chair, leaving enough room between her and the arm rest on the other side for the broom to fit. She then set the broom down next to her. It seemed secure enough. Then, she used both arm rests to hoist herself in the air, over the broomstick, and drop down. Finally, she was on it. Now to fly.

"Okay, broom. We're going to go up now, nice and slow. Be gentle, please?"

The broom slowly drifted into the air. For a little while, everything seemed fine. For five whole seconds, she was completely okay. But it would be unreasonable to expect there to be absolutely no breeze, wouldn't it? There was the slightest breeze at her back. And Shiawase at first held on normally, but as she went further off the ground, the breeze seemed stronger. Her hands were sweating too much. There's no way she'd be able to keep her grip. She was trembling too hard, and she was gripping her broom way too tight, and then . . . the breeze caused her to lean forward. With no legs to catch her, her arms buckled, and she fell, slamming down face first onto her broom. As she had fallen, she let go, so her arms dangled to her sides. She quickly wrapped them around her broom, holding it in a tight embrace. This would be fine. This would be better, actually. Now she didn't have to worry about her sweaty hands or her trembling. Her grip would still be fine now. She could continue flying like everyone else.

But as the broom inched just a little higher, she realized just how impractical her plan was. See, the breeze wasn't just directly behind her. It was also very slightly to her left side. So she'd had to lean back and slightly to the left to maintain her balance earlier. And now that she wasn't leaning, she wasn't balanced, causing her body to be pulled a little to the right.

Which meant her broom rolled slightly to the right as well.

The next thing Shiawase knew, she was no longer on her broom. She was dangling from it, her arms still embracing it as it stayed perfectly still, at a slight angle with Shiawase on the downward side.

She hadn't flown as high as anyone else in the class. She should never have even attempted this. She knew it was a bad idea. But this was still okay. If she could glide down, her wheelchair was right below her. She could get on it.

The good news was, the broom wasn't moving.

The bad news was, the broom wasn't moving!

This was bad. This was very very bad. And Shiawase's grip was slipping. There was only one thing she could possibly do now.

"H-help me . . ," she squeaked out timidly. "Please . . . ?"

It was time for flying class. Jarael knew how to fly since she had a broom which was a tradition in her family. Although she liked flying, she wasn’t big on playing quidditch. She just liked flying through the air. It always made her feel like a bird spreading her wings. So when she saw that she had flying lessons on the school schedule, she didn’t think much of it. Jarel believed it was going to be an easy class for the ones that were exposed to the wizarding world. Learning to fly was a privilege she felt because she was part of the wizarding community. She didn’t expect a muggleborn to know these things unless they were a part of the community themselves.

There were several students from each house there along with the flying professor. Each student was in a line opposite each other. Jarael with her wizarding robes on and school uniform was standing waiting for instruction. At times she would be twisting the one of the several braids she had styled with her long brown hair. She looked at each student squinting at them. None of them seemed to be that much different from each other she thought. Again she didn’t know them so it was all she knew for now. She heard the Flying Professor explain what she wanted them to do. There were brooms on the ground beside each student.

What they were supposed to do is call their broom to their hand. Simple as that. Jarael let out a giggle before reaching out her hand and saying confidently “UP!” The broom swiftly lifted up into her hands. She grinned “Yep just like I thought” she said then looked around at the other students to see how they were doing. Jarael watched as some students were having some problems getting the broom to listen to them. She heard a girl next to her, a Slytherin talking to her broom. Jarael smiled at her. Identifying that talking to a broom was not silly at all, at least not to Jarael.

Jarael went on to the broom since she was experienced. They were told not to go out too far. Just enough to stay close so the Flying Professor can keep an eye on them. Jarael zoomed by showing off but she loved the feeling of flying. She would fly around the castle if she could. This was the life. She didn’t seem to care about the class. Actually she got lost in the moment as she flew around. As she flew around she saw the Slytherin girl who was next to her was now dangling from her broom. Jarael’s eyes blinked fast. Her instinct was to observe and see if the girl can get out of her circumstance. It didn’t appear she was able to. She also didn’t think the Flying Professor or anyone else had seen her. Jarael zoomed close by to the girl.

“Are you having fun?” she grinned before saying “I’m guessing you are not trying any tricks out right?” she looked at the dagling girl who was yelling for help. Jarael calmly reached out a hand and said “Here grab my hand and I’ll try and give you a lift back up on your broom.” @Shiawase Mamori

Shiawase was hanging from her broom, arms tightly squeezing it for dear life, terrified and shaking. And then some girl flew up to her on her broom and asked her if she was having fun. Ordinarily, Shiawase would say something sarcastic here, like, "It's fun alright, to be worried about plummeting to your death or at least to your broken bones." But she couldn't muster that much. She was too scared. So she just. Said nothing. Her legs hanging dead below her was the thing that scared her most - the first things to hit the ground. What even happens if you're paraplegic and break both your legs, she couldn't help but wonder . . . it's not like she'd feel it, so how would she even know the extent of the damage?

Then the girl asked her if she was trying out tricks. Again, Shiawase would normally joke back. Say something like, "Yeah. I thought I'd try a hand stand. You know, since I'm so good at this." But she didn't. She just shook her head. Tears in her eyes. No tricks. Then the girl offered to help her onto her broom. Shiawase shook her head again. And finally, actually spoke.

"That's . . . not a good idea . . . I would only find myself here again if I tried to fly . . . please, could you help me get back down, into my wheelchair?" She spoke in a tone barely above a whisper. It was all she could do to get any words out at all.

Jarael looked at the girl as she reached out her hand for her to take it. The girl wanted to be helped down to get back into her wheelchair. “Don’t your leggies work?” she said in a high pitched voice. She did her best to get her to the ground if the girl allowed it. Jarael was grunted a bit to keep her up as the broom flew to the ground. Jarael looked at the girl before saying. “How do you get on the broom if you can’t walk?” she said, scratching her head in disbelief.

Her big blue piercing eyes stared at the girl in a way that many usually find odd or weird. “Maaaaagggggggiiiiiiccccc” she said eerily to the girl before letting out a giggle. She went to the wheelchair and started to spin the wheels “Oooh round and round it goes where it stops nobody knows.” she laughed

“What’s your name wheely girl? Do your wheelies stay on the ground? You should make it fly and then soar into the clouds like an owl in flight.” She let out a squeak that almost sounded like a bird. “Baby birds must fly the coop or be out of the loop.” She folded her arms and swayed back and forth with a smile on her face as if she was in a jolly mood and had no care in the world. Jarael looked up in the sky in a whimsical way as if she zoned out for a long moment. Did she forget about the girl or did something catch her interest? @Shiawase Mamori

As the girl asked her if her leggies worked, Shiawase groaned internally. High pitched voice. She probably thought she sounded cutesy. But to Shiawase, "cute" was the furthest thing she'd use to describe that. It reminded her of a time, when she was around five, that her dad took her to a grocery store. There was this older woman, there, who went up to Shiawase and her dad and asked him, "Awwwwe. Why is she in a wheelchair? Don't her leggies work?"

Shiawae glared at the woman and said, "I'm down here! And my legs don't work as well as yours, but my mind is another story! I'm not a dog, you know! I can speak for myself." She had huffed angrily and the woman looked indignant as she walked away, saying something about how rude she'd been.

Patronizing. That's what it sounded like to her. Like she was being condescended to. She took a deep breath. Perhaps this girl didn't mean it like that. So she decided to just answer her question and get this over with as fast as possible.

"No, my legs don't, in fact, work," she said, trying not to sound rude. But as she was terrified, hanging from the air as her arms shook, she wasn't exactly as polite in tone as she meant to be and may have sounded hostile.

Shiawase was in quite the predicament. The girl reached out her hand for Shiawase to take it . . . but she wasn't in a position where she could take her hand, both her arms wrapped around the broom as they were. If she let go with one of them, she'd fall. Something told her it wasn't a good idea to trust that she could be caught by anyone mid-air. Still, she couldn't very well stay in this position, could she? No one could really help her like this. So, Shiawase gulped. If she thought too long, she'd think her way out of doing this. She had to do something she was always bad at.

She had to let go.

With a deep breath, she pulled her arms away, out of their embrace of the broom, and started to fall. But, she had good, long arms, and reached up with both of them, grabbing onto the broom stick again, though now in a position where she was dangling off with only her hands for support rather than the whole arm. And the jerk as she grabbed back onto the broom definitely didn't feel good. She wouldn't be surprised if she still felt that in her shoulders the next day. Still, now she was in a position where she could be grabbed, where she could let go once she felt secure. And so, she reached for Jarael's hand, holding on tightly with her other arm. Only, she miscalculated. The whole weight of her body on one hand was too much, even for Shiawase's strength. And as she reached for Jarael, her grip on her broom slipped. She was falling, and had no choice but to brace for impact.

Only . . . she didn't hit the ground. A spell was cast, and she stayed in the air. Safe. Between Jarael and this other person, she was guided to the ground. Shiawase looked up at the other person and smiled. "Thank you for your help. I will find a way to repay you someday. And I wish I didn't need anything else, but my wheelchair is over there. Would you mind bringing me to it? Or, you can place me on the ground and wheel the chair over here, if that would be easier." She pointed at her wheelchair.

That's when Jarael walked toward her chair, asking how Shiawase got onto the broom without her legs.

"Carefully," Shiawase said. "My arms work just fine. I used those. Thank you for helping me down, by the way."

As Jarael got closer to the chair and stood in front of it. At first, Shiawase thought she was bringing the chair to her, and was ready to thank her. But instead, the girl did something UNBELIEVABLY rude! She started spinning the wheels of the chair!

She started. SPINNING. THE WHEELS. OF THE CHAIR! Like this was some sort of game! Like it was some sort of toy! An angry blush spread across Shaiwase's cheeks, and all she could see was red.

"STOP!" she shouted, in a tone that was loud, and harsh. And would make anyone flinch, with how sudden it was. She hoped it'd be enough to get her to quit. "I beg of you. Stop. That's my wheelchair! I thought you were bringing it to me, but instead you do this! That's unbelievable! It's not a toy, I need it to live, understand?! So get away from it, and leave it alone! You might as well be tampering with my legs! Just. Stop it!"

This was uncharacteristically impatient of her, but she didn't care. This girl had to learn, right now, that her actions weren't "cute," they were disrespectful. Better she learn that before she realized she could grab the handles of Shiawase's wheelchair and just, wheel off somewhere. She hadn't thought she'd need to worry about that . . . until now.

"Shiawase. My name is Shiawase Mamori. My wheels do stay on the ground. And while I don't mind the idea of my chair flying, it's the landing that's the problem. If my wheelchair were to break, I'd be stranded, so I really could not afford any accidents. The risk is not worth the reward in this case."

Then the girl zoned out. Shiawase took a deep breath. She was so irritating. But she seemed not to mean any harm.

"Well, in any case, I suppose you would want to get back in the air. You seem to really enjoy yourself up there. And well, I am safe on the ground now. So really, if you'd like to fly again, don't let me keep you. You should go ahead and have some fun while the class is still in session!"

Please go fly again. Please leave me alone.

After the last match of Quidditch that happened some days ago, Cash had realized that all of the brooms that they own a little bit unkempt. Their father once told Cash if they ever thinking about going professional as a Quiddith player, they must keep their brooms in pristine condition. Cash had been meaning to do some broom maintenance.

But between Quidditch matches, practice, and the mountain-high pile of their school work, what they intended to do keep pushed back and most of the time the task escaped from their mind. And so, after the last class had ended, Cash walk all the way to Slytherin's locker room where they store their brooms.

At first, they just want to polish their Silver Arrow and their Firebolt but their green eyes land on the very first broom that they owned. Their Comet 180. The broom itself Cash rarely used it. It once belonged to their mother. Although Cash only use it occasionally, the broom held a soft spot in their heart.

The green eyes then decided to take all their brooms and do some maintenance to all the brooms that were in their possession. The trek from where Slytherin's locker room was located to the Flying ground was not that far. Once Cash entered the Flying ground, the first thing that they realized was there is a class that is in session.

From where they were situated, Cash could hear the echoing of 'ups' that the first year are spewing. Hearing the sound alone brings a smile to their lips. It felt like just only yesterday and now they are already two and a half years studying in this magical castle. Cash was in the middle of their broom maintenance session when they saw a girl float up.

While still cleaning their brooms, Cash keeps their attention on the floating girl. They had seen the girl around campus before. Being in a wheelchair, make the girl stand up for the rest of her school year. All seems fine until the floating girl lost her balance and dangled off of her broom.

The Cuban descendant saw another girl reach out her hands trying to help the floating girl but with how high the floating girl was off on the ground, the new girl that offers her assistance could not reach her. At first, Cash just minding their own business until the worst thing happened to the floating girl.

The grip the floating girl had on her brooms, was completely off and she set to hit the ground hard. It seems their empathy kicks in as Cash foregoes their broom maintenance task and whips out their Phoenix feather core wand. Perhaps it was just their instinct kicked in or maybe Cash knew all too well how landing from such great height can do to one body.

"Arresto Momentum!,"Cash expressed. With the correct incantation, pronunciation, and wand movement, they pointed their Aspen wand to the falling girl. It seems their judgment was right. The spell that Cash cast on the girl helped her slow down her falling. Once Cash stood directly below her, Cash throw their wand aside making the girl falls directly into them.

With an 'oomph' sound coming from them and the young Ironwoods staggered a bit when they caught the curly-haired girl. If one saw the whole incident, Cash will deny it. At this moment, Cash does some heroic act and most of the time Cash always thought about themselves and never sees themselves as a chivalrous person.

"Thank you for your help. I will find a way to repay you someday. And I wish I didn't need anything else, but my wheelchair is over there. Would you mind bringing me to it? Or, you can place me on the ground and wheel the chair over here, if that would be easier"The girl in their arms said to them.

Cash nodded their head and put down the girl not so far from where her wheelchair is. Cash is about to bring the wheelchair to Shiawase but the other girl beat them to it. At first, Cash thought the other girl will bring the chair to Shia but no, the girl decided to have a kick out of the chair. The other girl had the audacity to play around with the disabled girl's chair.

It seems Cash was not the only one that was angered with the whole situation. The owner of the chair was too. Shiawase told Jarael to stop playing with her wheelchair since her wheelchair was the substitute of her legs. The green eyes alternated their eyes from Jarael to Shiawase and saw how the things unfold in front of them.

Shiawase's cry definitely a cry for help. The Cuban descent could be cruel from time to time but what the Raven did to their housemate was unacceptable. They will not let the mistreatment of the paraplegic girl pass by when Cash can do something about it. With gritted jaws, they stalked to where Jarael played around with Shia's wheels.

They jutted out their feet to make the wheelchair stop moving. The Beater then looked down at the girl that sat in the chair that did not belong to her. "Out!"Cash demand the Raven. "You heard the lady and this is me asking you nicely,"The third-year said to the first year. There is a hard edge and coldness in their tone.

"What sort of Neanderthal are you?"They questioned Jarael. Their English-Spanish accent seeped through. "In case your idiotic brain can not decipher what you have done, let me spell it out for you,"They continued. "What you did was not only invaded her personal space but it is just downright disrespectful,"The young Ironwoods expressed.

When Cash said 'her', they pointed to where Shia was situated. "I bet you get the kick out of people's misery don't you, birdie?"Uttered the Quidditch player full of sarcasm. At this point, they are livid but trying not to sort into violence. "Do not your parents teach you some manner or something?"Cash inquired Jarael.

It was a low-blow playing the parents' card but Jarael definitely needs to be taught about one's personal space and how to be respectful to others.
