backdate. Early September 2021.

After his first-ever flying lessons, Edmund felt tired and bored; limbs aching and the need to do something fun, like pranking one of the professor's offices or the girls' bathroom, growing in his heart. He already knew how to fly, of course, that was one of the very first things his father taught him, much to his mother's dismay.

If this sickeningly boring pace was to continue, he'd ask the professor to let him do his own things during lessons. It wouldn't work, but he could try to convince them. Yes, he wasn't great at flying (he'd get a little scared at times, and never went too fast), but he was better than most first and second years, ok!

It was hot outside today. The blue sky invited him to steal a broom and go soaring through the clouds. He'd lose a lot of points for Gryffindor if he tried to do something of the sort, though. That was the only reason why he was outside, on the floor, trying to finish his homework before tomorrow came, and not flying over the countless Hogwarts towers right now.

Edmund didn't know what he was writing down. At this point, he was making things up based on what he had heard and hoping it was right. He had looked for the answers, but there was nothing there. Not knowing annoyed him deeply, more so than being stuck on the ground, sweating a little, with no one to talk to.

Mei was asleep when she heard the door creak in and the silent giggles of girls. She hid under the covers. Oh no, Not again She hoped they would leave her alone and take one of the other girls in there. Nope. The girls snatched Mei from her bed and sat her on her trunk. She tried to fight against them but there was too many and she couldn't keep up. Before she knew it she was decorated head to toe in pink, white and glitter. They had given her a pink makeup look and had dressed her in a pink and white frilly dress with frilly socks and pink mary jane shoes. She felt disgusting.

One of the third years took a picture of her with a wizard camera. Mei sneered at the and yelled for them to get out. They quickly exited the room in bursts of laughter. Mei cleaned off her face and changed out of the hideous clothes. She put on a band t-shirt tucking it into a pair of baggy ripped jeans. She added a chain to her jeans along with a double belt and combat boots. She put some chain necklaces on and slipped on some rings as well. She walked out of the dorm and through the common room. She scowled at the girls as she walked out and down to the Great Hall.

She snatched a few rolls and ate them as she walked outside. She decided to go to the grounds today. She usually went to the Great Lake but why not change it up a bit. She walked there and saw a boy sitting by himself. He seemed to be writing something down. She finished her last roll and walked up to him. She snatched his paper and looked at it. It seemed to be homework for one of the boy's classes. "Whatcha writing there?"

Mumbling to himself, Edmund complained about the shooting pain in his wrist from writing so much, wondering if that's how his mother spent most of her childhood, dry spilled ink staining the tip of his fingers. That's why I should be like my father... He didn't do most of his homework and he's a star!

Before he could finish writing answer 3 of his History of Magic homework, a hand snatched it away, out of his grasp. The movement had ink spilling from the quill, staining the corners of his parchment, ruining part of it if he didn't clean it immediately.

He snapped his head in the person's direction to find a girl.

The girl had long blonde hair, like a muggle princess, and blue eyes that matched her black and blue robes. Ravenclaw. Her face wasn't at all familiar, so he assumed she was from a different year. She read his homework and he reached for it.

"Oi. Give that back. Now. I've been working on it all afternoon," said Edmund, getting up, posh accent not helping him sound demanding at all. He wasn't in the mood to be nice, frankly, especially with someone he didn't know. "I would rather not have to do it all over again, thank you very much,"

Mei looked at the homework reading it over. The answers were all correct. So far at least. This boy was a total nerd. Looked like it was for History of Magic as well. This boy knew his stuff. She looked at him. Gryffindor. Sure acted like one with the way he was bossing her around. Must be real brave to talk like that to the person who had his homework. In an instance this homework could be in shreds and lying on the ground.

The boy had brown hair and blue eyes. He looked like a stereotypical boy who would be into blondes. At least where she came from all the brown haired boys ended up with the blondes. She placed her hands at the top of the parchment. "Say Please and I might give it to you. You're not going to get it back speaking to an upper year like that. I could rip this to shreds if I wanted to and then you would really have to do it over again.

Mei moved her hands to show that she wasn't bluffing. She didn't tear it just yet. She would see if the boy would actually say please. But if he tried to grab it from her hands it would surely tear but not by Mei.

His stance became defensive the second she opened her mouth - "say please". The condescending tone prickled his skin, face turning red at the thought of begging to have his homework back. As if.

Edmund watched the older girl place her hands on top of the parchment, pressing his lips together in a thin line, and squinting in her general direction. Would she rip it? She wouldn't... would she? The girl didn't seem to be joking, but no one in their right mind would do something like that to someone they barely knew, even if they were rude. Right? He couldn't tell.

He was wrong to talk to her like that, he knew - if Granny saw him being rude to someone, regardless if they were an upperclassman or not, she'd tug on his ears and have him apologize profusely. But since she wasn't here to educate him, he wasn't going to back down. If he attempted to yank it out of her hands, it would rip and all of his work would go to waste. He would have to stay up late so he could hand in something decent enough to get at least an E.

So, he tried a different approach.

Eddie ran his hands over his robes, recollecting himself for a second, before putting his hand out, sweet smile and all to make up for his sarcasm, "Edmund Dempsie, ma'am. Looooovely meeting ya. Can I have that back?"

Hey she's cruel. She's not going to rewrite his answers for him. That's like basically cheating.

She watched as he smoothed out his robe and recollected himself. He put his hand out. A...handshake? He smiled at her sweetly and in what seemed to be in a country like tone he called her "ma'am". He asked for his homework back not demanding her this time. Mei was confused. What was up with this person. Total weirdo. She hesitated but shook his hand. "Mei Hagikura?" She asked as if she didn't know her own name. She handed his homework back. "You didn't say please, but I suppose 'asking' will suffice for now."

She waited for him to take his homework from her. What was up with this kid? Where did that sudden mood change come from as well. He was now the weirdest kid she had ever picked on. She studied him for a second. She was doing something nice but just so she could end the interaction. It was way too weird for her.

Sudden fake sweetness had people confused - it always worked.

He often did it to annoy his cousins - teasing them endlessly, then acting sweet and innocent to Aunt Persephone. It got on their nerves and, in the end, he got what he wanted. In this case, his homework back. Though, he genuinely thought of it as a 50/50 chance with this stranger. The girl - Mei Hagikura - had come out of nowhere to pick on him, then act superior when he stood up for himself (albeit in a rude way, but details, details...)

Thankful that his change of behavior worked to throw Mei off, Edmund got his homework back - safe and sound, thank Merlin.

"Thank you," He smiled with a mocking head tilt, clicking his tongue. He gave her one last look, to make sure she wouldn't try to steal it again and actually rip it this time, rolling his eyes before going back to his what he was doing. Eddie didn't have the time to talk to someone like her.

He sat down, giving her one more side glance, grabbing his quill and dipping it at the inkwell, writing down his answers as he'd been doing, hoping she'd leave. After that, he didn't look back, acting like she wasn't there in the first place.
