Onto the Hogwarts Express Finished

Taylor headed down the length of the Hogwarts Express, with its gleaming floor and compartments with wood sliding doors, one after another. Her pale skin matched the light pink dress with dark rose petals that went down to just above her ankles she was wearing, paired with a white cotton drape jacket, and white sneakers. Her curly blonde hair was tumbled down her shoulders in loose waves. Her eyes were a brilliant blue.
Taylor had been looking forward to going to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for as long as she could remember, but now, as she was actually going to live out her dream, she felt mostly nervous, mixed with a bit of anticipation, and, of course, excitement.
Well, Taylor assured herself, it can't possibly be any worse than her current life, could it? What with them arguing all the time... At least, now, she might be able to find a new family, and perhaps a best friend.
Smiling at the thought, Taylor continued walking down the train. Not surprisingly, just about every compartment was full. Her parents had spent a lot of time bickering that morning. Taylor didn't even care what they were so upset over now. She was used to it.
Finally, Taylor found an empty compartment, toward the back of the train. Sighing, she stuffed her luggage into the overhead compartment, and plopped herself down on a seat by the window. She stared for a while at the empty space in front of her, then sighed again, and set her sights out the window.

Jarael made her way onto Platform 9 and ¾ along with her big brood of a family. Her parents were right behind her tugging at her six brothers and three sisters. They all wanted to say goodbye. All the kids had medium brown hair and piercing blue eyes. Some were on the luggage cart enjoying the ride. The older ones wanted to walk on their own to show their independence. The platform was filled with people saying goodbye to their kids who were heading to Hogwarts. Jarael squeezed through trying to get to the entrance of the train. She turned to her family who also made their way to the platform entrance.

Her parents hugged her and gave her a kiss. It was like they didn’t want to let her go. She was practically being hugged to death. A cough could be heard coming from the eleven year old “…..I….I…can’t breathe." she finally let out and her parents let go of her but there were tears coming from her mother, while her father was looking at her with pride. “I’m going to miss you both. I promise to write as much as I can. “ She hugged her sisters and mussed up each of her brother's hair. She pulled her luggage onto the train then took a step on. She turned to wave at them then entered the train. It was noisy as kids were finding compartments and still not fully settled in. Jarael hated large crowds and just wanted to disappear. She hoped she could find a compartment to herself.

Each door she opened showed several students inside with all the seats taken. She would close the door and try another one. She kept doing this in what felt like forever. ‘Wasn’t there a compartment with a seat open at all’ she thought to herself when she opened a door and to her surprised was almost empty with the exception of a girl around her age with blonde curly hair and fair skin. She looked at the light pink dress with rose petals on it that the girl was wearing. If the girl looked at Jarael she would see a girl around five feet, fair skin, piercing blue eyes and medium brown hair. She was wearing a long black sleeve shirt underneath a short sleeve purple shirt. She had skinny jeans on with black ankle length boots. Jarael waved her hand awkwardly before saying.

“Hey there, every compartment is full. Do you mind If I sit with you?” she asked but came in without waiting for an answer and set her stuff in the luggage compartment and sat down at a window seat. She nodded while blinking furiously in an awkward way. She wasn’t really good around people and started to fidget a bit with her hands. She finally spoke up to introduce herself “So yea…I’m Jarael Morningstar…first year.” she said awkwardly to the curly blonde hair girl.

Taylor stared out into the scenery out the window. She supposed it was beautiful, but couldn't really register the sight before her. Her mind was miles away, thinking about the castle she was going to study at, the friends she hoped she would make.
After what seemed like forever (although it might just have been a few minutes), a noise shook Taylor out of her daze. It was the sound of... the compartment door sliding open?
She turned toward the compartment entrance, and sure enough, the sliding door was now open, revealing a girl about Taylor's age. She was tall, maybe the same height as Taylor, with toffee colored hair, light skin, and piercing blue eyes. She had on a long black sleeve shirt underneath a short sleeve purple shirt, along with skinny jeans and black ankle length boots. Huh. Interesting fashion statement for a kid.
The girl waved her hand awkwardly. 'Hey there, every compartment is full. Do you mind If I sit with you?” she asked. However, she came in without waiting for an answer, which Taylor did not particularly like, but stayed quiet.
The girl set her stuff in the luggage compartment, and set herself down at a window seat. She nodded while blinking furiously, which Taylor found kind of weird. The girl also started fidgeting with her hands, looking rather uncomfortable. Still, Taylor waited for her to speak first.
She finally spoke up to introduce herself “So yea…I’m Jarael Morningstar…first year.” she said awkwardly.
Taylor smiled. 'It's lovely to meet you, Jareal! I'm Taylor Lawrence, first year as well!'

Jarael continued to fidget her fingers as she learned the girl’s name. Taylor Lawrence was her name. Jarael got up from her seat then went up to Taylor until she was so close to her face and stared her up and down examining her with her eyes. She scratched her head then went back to her seat. “Pleasure to meet you Taylor.” she said then looked out the window as if she was staring into space. Her hands stopped fidgeting as she put her feet up onto the cushioned seats as if she was comfortably at home. Jarael stopped looking out the window for a moment and turned to Taylor.

“What are you looking forward to in school? I wonder what it looks like? I heard there was a giant squid in the lake. I don’t know if that’s true but it would be so amazing to see. “ she grinned at the thought. “So where are you from Taylor? Do you have brothers and sisters?” she asked, wondering about the girl. Jarael was usually not this talkative but she thought if she was sharing the compartment with the girl she should talk to her at some point. It was better to get it all out now because Jarael knew that it was a long train ride and she would not be able to keep up the talking. This was just not the way she was.

The sound of the door opening again surprised her. She wondered if a student was needing a new compartment. The sounds of laughter could be heard outside as well as many voices talking. She figured there were several people in the train corridor. To her surprise it was an old lady that opened the door. She had a cart with her and apparently she was going to each compartment offering sweets for sale.

“Do you want any sweets dearies?” the old woman asked as sweetly as the sweets she was selling. Jarael’s eyes grew big and she jumped out of her seat all of a sudden. “OOH yes please!” she said then started to get two of everything on the cart. Jarael sat back down after getting the sweets. She opened a licorice wand and started to chomp it down.

As Taylor introduced herself, the girl--Jarael-- continued to fidget with her fingers. Where did she get all that nervous energy? Taylor wondered.
When Taylor finished talking, Jarael suddenly got up from her seat, and, much to Taylor's surprise, went up to her until she was creepily close to Taylor, and examined her carefully and thoroughly with those piercing blue orbs. Then, Jarael scratched her head, and went back to her seat across from Taylor.
“Pleasure to meet you Taylor.” she said, and looked out the window as if she was staring into space. Her hands finally stopped fidgeting, and she put her feet up onto the cushioned seats as if she was comfortably at home, which Taylor did not particularly approve off, but still did not say anything. She wanted to make a good first impression. After a while, Jarael stopped looking out the window for a moment, and turned to Taylor.
“What are you looking forward to in school? I wonder what it looks like? I heard there was a giant squid in the lake. I don’t know if that’s true but it would be so amazing to see. “ She said quickly, not giving Taylor a chance to fully process all her questions. “So where are you from Taylor? Do you have brothers and sisters?” Jarael continued.
Taylor blinked. That was abrupt. She bit her lip nervously. 'Um, so yes, I'm looking forward to school. And as for what it looks like, well, I'm guessing it looks like a castle, obviously. In fact, there's a detailed description in Hogwarts, a history. If you want, you can check it out. The giant squid was mentioned in that book as well. And yes, I guess it would be amazing to see, if it doesn't drag you underwater. That would not be good.'
She paused for a moment to catch for breath. 'And I'm from England, Barnet, actually. And no, no brothers or sisters.'
'What about you ?' she looked at Jarael. 'Where are you from?'

Jarael continued to eat her sweets as she listened to Taylor answer the several questions that she had asked. At times it would look like she wasn’t paying attention. Jarael at times goes off in her own world. For someone who wouldn’t know her it would seem odd and maybe off putting. Jarael never cared what other people thought of her. She heard Taylor mention that the giant squid in the lake was mentioned in Hogwarts a History. Jarael narrowed her eyes at her for a long moment. After the long pause Jarael nodded as if agreeing with her. She picked up a chocolate frog then looked at Taylor.

“Fancy a frog?”

She took another one for herself and opened it up. The chocolate frog was about to jump but Jarael captured it with her hand so quickly that the frog was squirming trying to get away. Jarael opened her mouth wide then viciously ate the head off the frog and the squirming stopped. Enjoying the sweet Jarael sat back and looked out the window. Before saying “Merpeople” out of the blue. A quiet paused set in the n Jarael spoke once again. “Hogwarts a History also says there are Merpeople in the lake. Most likely the giant squid won’t hurt you. It will be the Merpeople that get to you before the squid. I hear they stab people with their spears if they come upon people. Oh such victims. Merpeople are territorial, you know.” finishing her chocolate frog she continued to look out the window as if she didn’t say anything.

She heard Taylor mention that she was from England and that she had no siblings. Jarael while looking out the window said “Ten.” A long pause before she said something else “Ten kids in my family. England is where we reside now.” She finally turned her head toward the luggage compartment and started to get her robes out. She left to head to the lavatory then came back all dressed in her robes. She plopped herself down on the seat. She was ready to take a nap. She knew they still had a ways to go to get to Hogwarts. She wanted to make sure she had her robes on before they arrived. Her eyes showed she was getting sleepy but she wondered if she should stay away to entertain Taylor. She shook her head ‘No entertaining’ she thought to herself. She wasn’t sure what she should do. She is usually not around other people outside her family. Everything was always so awkward. If she could only disappear. @Taylor Lawrence

As Taylor spoke, Jarael continued to eat the sweets she had gotten from the lunch trolley lady. At times, it looked like she wasn’t paying attention to Taylor, which made her a bit annoyed. When she mentioned the giant squid in Hogwarts, a history, Jarael narrowed her eyes, and confined to for a long time. That made Taylor feel kind of uncomfortable, which this girl seemed to specialize in.
Finally, she nodded as if agreeing with Taylor, and picked up a chocolate frog. She offered it to Taylor
‘Fancy a frog?’ she asked. Without waiting to see what Taylor would accept it, she took another one for herself, and opened it up quickly. The chocolate frog looked like it was about to jump away, but Jarael captured it with her hand so quickly the frog never had a chance. Jarael opened her mouth wide then viciously ate the head off the frog, ending the frog’s squirming once and for all.
Taylor winced. ‘Um, no thanks.’
To tell the truth, she found biting the heads off chocolate frogs kind of cruel. After all, they were sort of living creatures. It didn’t seem right to enchant them so they could get murdered by getting their heads bitten off.
Suddenly, Jarael said, ‘Merpeople.’ out of the blue.
Taylor looked at her quizzically.
Jarael continued, ‘Hogwarts a History also says there are Merpeople in the lake. Most likely the giant squid won’t hurt you. It will be the Merpeople that get to you before the squid. I hear they stab people with their spears if they come upon people. Oh such victims. Merpeople are territorial, you know.’ She then finished her frog, and continued to look out the window.
When Taylor mentioned that she was from England and that she had no siblings, Jarael suddenly said “Ten.” After a long pause, she said “Ten kids in my family. England is where we reside now.” She finally turned her head toward the luggage compartment and started to get her robes out, and left to head to the lavatory then came back all dressed in her robes, leaving Taylor rather oncfiesed about the sudden events.
Jarael plopped herself down on the seat. Taylor noticed that she looked a bit tired.
‘If you want to take a nap or something,’ she said cautiously, ‘Feel free to.’

Jarael nodded off and after a few minutes light snores could be heard. Her excitement and exhaustion came to a standstill as she slept for an hour. She finally woke up and stretched in weird ways. She saw Taylor and blinked several times at her. “Almost there.” she grinned as she finally had her energy back.

She could see Hogsmeade station in the distance. “Oh yea we are here just need the train to stop before we get out." The train was coming into the station. Jarael jumped up with excitement then went to her luggage compartment. She pulled hard to get her luggage out.

The noise outside the compartment was louder than ever. She could hear the sounds of the students getting their things and walking out to the corridor on their way out the train. Jarael just stood in the compartment to watch them all get off. She didn’t want to squeeze into the corridor like she was some cattle to be herded.

She turned to Taylor. “It’s a zoo out there. Not gonna get out until there is enough room to walk without bumping into people. But honestly” She let out a squeak “This is so exciting! I can’t wait. Hope no one falls in the lake and gets stabbed by a merperson.” she laughed remembering telling Taylor about the merpeople.

When it seemed that there was finally room to go out the compartment. Jaral squinted and blinked before looking at Taylor. “Our adventure begins. I wonder what house we will be in. You seem like a Hufflepuff but I could be surprised.” she said with a mischievous grin on her face. “Anywho we are going to have fun I just know it. “

She saw a few kids that must have been first years like her and Taylor. They looked scared. Jarael just gave them a smirk. She could understand if there was a little bit of nerves but she actually loved this feeling. It was the unknown and she couldn’t wait to know what would happen next. She turned to Taylor and said “Well I'm heading out. Nice meeting you. Maybe we will be in the same house or maybe not. We will probably have some classes together I’m sure. I’ll see you whenever.” she grinned then walked into the corridor and out the train.
