Spring Races Broom Race Hufflepuff v Slytherin

Jack was pissed off from the last race. There was no reason that a bunch of first years could've outraced him. That was going to change. He was ready to bash some skulls and look good doing it. The boy's focus was broken by the words of a certain newspaper-loving snake. "No geese chasin' for me, but you're about to be chasing behind me for this entire race. So better be prepared for that."

And they're off! The rain wouldn't be putting a damper on the racers' enthusiasm. At least not here at the start. There is a small stretch of open air before the players meet their first obstacle: a classic narrow passageway. Many of the snakes suffer a few bruises early as they attempt to slither past the badgers. Two of the Hufflepuff woman slow down, wands aloft. Spennikins takes her aim but her target must have sped too far away. Towers takes aim for Warner—we'll see if the spell catches the Slytherin at the end of the bottleneck.

As the passage thins, the players seem to get more jumbled up. Everyone but the second-year Salvatore splatters against a wall in one way or another. In fact, Scarlet Salvatore has an aura about her that seems to leave failure in its wake, possibly petrifying her own teammates; only the most fearless racers escape discomfort in her presence. The badgers have a different vibe, especially when it comes to the charming Jack Warren, who seemed to be a distracting icon for his opponents' concentration. Toward the end of the most narrow part, he is the only one who can keep his broom straight.

Everyone has an easy go of it at the end of the passage, apart from Ashwood and Warner, the youngest snakes. Ashwood takes one final smash against the hard wall. And Towers's spell, which has been tracking Warner all this time, finally reaches its target. The new racer might be surprised and frustrated to feel her broom become sluggish under the success of Towers's slowing charm.

Ashwood, a little worse for wear, is letting nothing slow her down. She burst through the waterfall at top speed, staying firmly on her broom. Her teammates, on the other hand, have a more difficult go of it. The two could almost taste the lead, but now both Starkey and Gray will find themselves soaked, broomless, with their feet firmly on the ground.

"Galton's fine, I'm sure. Thank you for asking," Serena replied to Percival with a roll of her eyes. There was not much else to really say. How was she supposed to know how he was? Then again, she did consider him a friend - at the very least. She was just a little mad at the Slytherin because she knew that he was implying that Galton was her boyfriend, just to irk her. Ugh, he was just irritating. Wrong but irritating nonetheless.

Serena mounted her broom and sped off as soon as they were signalled to start. There was no hesitation in her moves as she zoomed through the air and into a passageway. Gripping her wand tightly, she started to slow as she focused on the others around her. She knew the plan - she had been brief beforehand. Now was time to action it. Focusing on one of the Slytherin's moving past her, she waved her wand at the racer's broom. She muttered under her breath, casting a slowing charm on the girl's broom, fist-bumping a little as it hit.

With that, she gripped her broom again and started to lean forward as she planned her next move. She could see the other racers pass her by, but she was hoping her spell landed and it was enough.

Well, you know. The way the drenched fabric of Wyatt's Slytherin racing uniform clung to his skin was incredibly uncomfortable, and falling off of a broom wasn't so easy on his ankles. Not to mention falling off of his broom in front of Gray. Fortunately, that did not matter. Yes, because he wasn't about to linger on feelings during a race, but also because Gray had fallen too. Wouldn't you know it.

In silence, save for a few irritated huffs when the feeling of his sopping-wet clothes really got to him, Wyatt went searching for his broom. The show must go on, right? Besides, he could have sworn he heard some spell casting going on behind him, and Wyatt didn't really want to find himself caught between two maybe-teenagers dueling in the air. Hard pass, for sure.

There were so many things one wanted to do during a broom race. One wanted to look down at the stands to see who had come to support their team. One wanted to look back to make sure all their fellow teammates had faired the course well. One wanted to try and figure out where there were in relation to the other races. These were all things one wanted to do, and yet Simon knew those were things one didn’t do. No, instead, one needed to be focused and determined on the obstacles ahead and continue on.


Stay focused.

He certainly hoped that all his fellow badgers were doing alright and the ones closest to him he had a hint of an idea through being able to see them from the corner of his eyes.

The rain continued to fall and this badger continued on. Determination. Perseverance. It was what badgers did best.

The slyherins seemed to have gotten off on a good start with Gray and Wyatt zooming ahead with Vale in tow. It seemed to be going well until they reached the dreaded waterfall, where him and Wyatt crashed into the water below after going into it awkwardly. Breathing out heavily Percival didn't even say a word to his dormmate, who was also determined to get back on his broom. They both needed to keep going, else the huffs were sure to catch up with them.

Gemini giggled softly as she pulled the wet sleeves of her uniform away. She was completely soaks and thought it would make it harder to fly, she thought others would probably be annoyed by it. She quickly got on her broom and took off when they were told to start.

Gemini did not want to dispoint her team as she looked around her. She ws not used to flying around so quickly, but it was beautiful. She needed to focus. She should not be paying attention to only the outdoors, but the oter people. She grunted in frustration as she felt hersef slow down from an unknown spell.

----Vale may have taken a few hard hits, but it only made her crackle in glee from the pain as her final destination was to burst through a waterfall. Did she go through the waterfall despite her odds? Yep. Did her older team mates have the same outcome? Nope. Vale was sure Opeila and Starlee weren't going to be happy with them on that.

The adrenaline was making Vale not worry so much for now. One of the many fulfilments she gets from broom racing. Bruised and slightly bloodied, Vale still laughed away.

Scarlet had sped away from the starting line, pushing her broom to go as fast as it could through the first few obstacles that she encountered. She heard from behind her the incantations of some spells from a couple of the Hufflepuff racers, and had braced herself for some kind of impact in-case she had been a target, all the while quickly increasing the distance between herself and the casters, but felt none.

Ahead she saw a passageway, forcing all the racers to pack into a more closed packed line as they passed through, the initial period of getting used to this more compact area in which to ride caused Scarlet to knock into a couple of the sides of the wall. But by the time the passageway started to thin even more, she had grown used to manoeuvring the tight space and other racers and carefully avoided any further interaction with the walls.

Looking ahead to the racers in front of her, she was happy to see only the green of the Slytherin racing uniform, Slytherin had the lead, of course closer to her she caught glimpses of a few Hufflepuff's, one making her stare a little longer than the others. Her friend Simon was her rival for the morning, she hadn't actually realized he was a racer too, she made a mental note to have a catch up with him after this was over, but for now brought her focus back onto the race.
