So, Lucia went on her weekly trip to the Owlery in the West Tower, only letting River come with her as far as the door. Then she put the purple ball of fluff on the floor outside the door with a stern instruction to stay there. She wasn't worried about River getting lost or stolen - she wasn't a particularly adventurous creature and could take care of herself - but she was worried about her being eaten by owls. Leaving her outside the door seemed to be the best option as Lucia herself entered the Owlery.
If somebody else happened to be coming up to the Owlery after Lucia had entered, they would see the curious sight of a small pygmy puff hiding in a corner. All alone, or so it seemed...

Harper walked into the Owlery. She had a letter she had written for her parents who actually lived back in Scotland still. She had lived in Scotland her whole life and was still finding herself trying to get used to the life at Hogwarts which was definitely a bit different than her life was back home.
Her letter had contained many things including her very prideful self getting to feel her parents that so far, she had gotten nothing but "E"s and "O"s on her homework and she really hoped that it made her parents as happy and proud as she was of herself. She took pride on there school work and always tried to do the best she possibly could.
As Harper walked into the Owlery all she could see was a small ball of something... Purple?
'What is that...' She thought to herself as she slowly and carefully walked to the suspicious ball of fluff.
As she got closer, she realized it was a pygmy puff and she gasped. The poor thing looked scared beyond it's wits and she finally spoke allowed to it.
She got on her knees and crawled close, but made her to stay far enough away as she didn't want to make it uncomfortable. "Hi there little guy... What's the matter?" She asked it and slowly inched just a touch closer to it. She didn't want to scare it away, but she wanted to comfort it because there didn't seem to be anybody else around.

Harper stood right up and immediately regretted talking to the little puff. She began apologizing profusely. "I am so sorry! Is this your pet? It looked so lonely and scared in the corner... I just wanted to make sure it was ok..." She spoke looking down at the floor and was now embarrassed as she hadn't meant to cause any harm. She hoped that she hadn't made Lucia mad at her.
"I had originally come here to owl this letter to my parents... If I am being a bother at all... to you or to your little puff I can do that and get outta your hair. She says. As she was speaking she waved the letter in her hand to emphasize her point. As she was talking about Lucia and about her pet, she gestured to each of them at the time of mention. She wouldn't mind getting out the of Owlery if that's what was requested of her.
She had some homework and studying to do so it wouldn't be a bad idea to hurry up and get back to that anyways. She needed to focus on Astronomy as she was struggling a bit in that class. Of course, she wasn't doing too horribly, she was still getting "Es" and "Os" it was just more "Es" in that class than "Os" and she was the type of student to over-worry herself about that.

Harper sighed with relief when finding out that Lucia was friendly. She was glad that she hadn't done something wrong. After a moment the girl who later presented herself as Lucia, apologized to Harper. So, after the introduction Harper too decided to introduce herself.
"Ah yes! I am Harper Jordan. It's nice to meet you as well." She said with a smile, hoping it would show Lucia that she was genuinely excited to meet her.
Then, after just a moment Lucia described why her pygmy puff was outside the Owlery and then offered to let Harper pet it. This instantly made Harper excited. It did look very soft and fluffy! Harper had only heard of pygmy puffs but until this moment, she had never actually held one!
"Yes! I would love that. She looks so soft." Harper stated. She was unsure how the assumedly shy puff would like her just grabbing it, so she asked Lucia. "Is it alright if I pick her up to pet her?" She asked with a tone that was calm. Or at least, she was trying her best to remain calm but her excitement was unreal. "I just wanted to check before picking her up because a lot of pets don't like to be picked up." Harper stated, finishing her thought.

The girl's name, as it turned out, was Harper: @Harper Jordan. For a moment, Lucia wondered whether or not that was a double-barrelled forename (was it called 'double-barrelled when it was your first name?) - after all, Jordan could be a girl's name - but decided it was probably not. After all, Lucia had introduced herself with both her first and last name, so it made sense that the other girl would do the same.
As Harper said, River definitely looked - and was - soft. Pygmy puffs weren't sometimes compared to pom-poms for no reason, after all. Lucia also appreciated the other girl's hesitance to pick River up. Some animals would bite if the wrong person picked them up. Luckily, River wasn't one of those animals. "You can try," Lucia agreed. "She won't bite. She might try eat your snot though," the Hufflepuff added with a wince. She'd had River for over a year and had gotten good at noticing when the puff's tongue was out and dodging when needed (she even slept with nose plugs sometimes, like those that swimmers might wear), but still occasionally got caught off guard. It wasn't fun. "Sorry."
River, maybe noticing that they were talking about her, pressed herself into Lucia's neck, possibly trying to hide herself as she often did. "Pygmy puffs," Lucia told Harper, happy to share her knowledge as she reached towards River and picked her up off her shoulder, "are supposed to be really... um..." Oh great - Lucia had forgotten the word. She held River in her cupped hands, trying to think quickly. "Strong? Not-easy-to-hurt?" She realized she'd just start spewing out words in a moment and forced herself to stop. "I mean, they're supposed to like being thrown in the air or whatever, but River doesn't really. Anyway..." If Harper held out her hands, Lucia would deposit her pygmy puff into them. "Here you go."

Harper listened to what Lucia said about her Pygmy puff. She didn't know much about them herself, only that they were said to be extremely soft. She heard the advice that Lucia had given her about how river might try and eat her snot.
'Ewww. Thankfully I don't have a pygmy puff!' Thought Harper, but she didn't say it out loud as she didn't want to hurt Lucia's feelings or anything.
Then, Lucia had offered River to Harper and she couldn't help but smile. She couldn't be more excited to hold the purple floof. She held her hands out and took River from Lucia. Then, her eyes lit up. River was even softer than Harper had imagined her.

It was probably the Hufflepuff in her that made Lucia smile at the younger girl, happy that she'd made her happy. River wasn't entirely convinced but seemed to be enjoying Harper's attention, which was unusual. Generally, she'd just jump (well, roll and fall, since pygmy puffs didn't exactly have anything that was equivalent to knees) off someone else's hands whenever Lucia attempted to hand her over, but she seemed to have taken a liking to this inquisitive brunette - a pleasant surprise for Lucia, who'd been expecting River to be scared of the new girl.
When Harper thanked her for letting her hold River, Lucia reached out and gave her little purple pet a little stroke as well. "You're welcome," she told Harper. "She generally doesn't like new people but she seems to like you, which is nice."
If there was a moment of silence, the two girls would just about make out a quite humming noise coming from Harper's palm. Lucia would gasp, instantly recognising the sound. "She's purring!" she'd explain in wonder. Actually was it called purring when it was a pygmy puff? Lucia felt like this was the sort of thing she should know, but ah well.
