Justice Candy
1st of April
Ileen was probably the grimmest Easter bunny ever. The third-year stomped across the lawn, stepping so energetically that her ponytail bounced up and down. In her arms she held a large box filled to the top with a wide variety of candy, almost as if she had single-handedly cleaned out Honeydukes. Under her arm she carried a huge, folded picnic blanket and a sign with glitter letters.
Although the colorful candy looked funny and the girl appeared cute with her nose reddened by the cool wind, she looked so grim that all the first year students who crossed her path moved out of the way.
Her bad mood did not come from nowhere. How dare they? She still couldn't believe it, and at the thought of her parents she snorted indignant, like an outraged baby dragon. She had heard nothing from them, not that she should come home, no, she should stay in England like a good girl. And then they sent her a bunch of sweets at Easter as compensation? No thanks, she could do without that.
With a thud, she dropped the box on the lawn under a tree not far from the lake and threw her thick scarf around her shoulders. Despite her red sweater, it was still quite fresh, but her face was burning with anger and indignation.
As if it had done her some personal harm, she grabbed the blanket and shook it out loudly and aggressively. Then she went to work.
If her parents had thought they would make their daughter happy and she would eat those sweets, they were sorely mistaken.
All her negative energy went into productivity and Ileen built up her station in no time. Soon the candy was draped in baskets on the blanket and the big sign proclaimed: Happy Easter! Candy for free!
Breathing heavily, hands in her hips, she looked at the outcome. After a short consideration, she took some baskets and spread the candy in the surrounding area, slightly hidden behind stones and in knotholes.
Chewing on her lower lip, she looked skeptically at her work. Then she bubbled a few colorful balls from her wand to spice up the whole appearance a bit.
With a sigh, she turned around and looked towards the castle. Hopefully some students would come by and want the candy, otherwise she would throw it away. Even though most of them probably didn't deserve them.... Well, 'have you been good?' was now more a question for Santa Claus, not the Easter Bunny.
Ileen reminded her face that she wanted to get people to come here, and replaced her killer look with a smile. Hey, maybe she would do something good today. And get rid of those sweets at the same time. Heh. Two birds with one stone.

Valentin “Der Niffler” Schnell came through the grassy grounds, spinning his broom around like a circus performer, tossing it in flips and spiralling it smoothly behind his back despite its substantial length. The sunlight glinted off the broom’s quicksilver sheen as the boy hummed some old song; a knowledgeable few might recognize it as the folk song “Katyusha.”
The boy figured he would find some place to fly around while Mikael and Yefim were otherwise occupied, but instead he stumbled upon a glimmering candy wrapper wedged into a tree’s knothole. The keen-eyed seeker spotted it even while distracted and a half-dozen meters away, so this hyper-curious niffler naturally stopped his broom play to investigate. Approaching the candy, he determined it was in new condition, as if it were meant to be found in an edible state. Barely aware of what day it was, the boy failed to conclude that the gesture had anything to do with Easter traditions; after all, almost everything came across as a game to the boy. Of course someone would plant candy out in the outdoors, just to make a fun activity for others. Having spotted the candy, however, the anorexic boy had already gotten his treat-- the satisfaction of having discovered the secret game. Few activities had such a lingering appeal for the niffler as finding treasures, even if he had no intention of picking them up, let alone eating them.
Looking around, Valentin began to spot more and more of the candies-- some behind stones, and others dangling from a tree as if they were its own fruits. Wondering if there was a pattern, a hidden message, the cogs in Valentin’s brain began to spin faster and faster. Who was it that had planted this? Whom was it intended for? Such answers were the real prize for Valentin.
Excited about a new mystery, a new chase, Valentin hung his broom back over his shoulders alongside his school satchel and began searching intently for if there was anyone still in the area-- especially someone who seemed to have been the mastermind behind the game.
Spotting candy baskets on a blanket came next, and he easily read the sign-- “Happy Easter! Candy for free!” So it was for Easter, he understood: a random act of generosity. But who had done it, and was the message secretly an invitation to play some more? Colorful bubbles from someone’s charm decorated the scene, twinkling slightly in several corners of Valentin’s vision, and a slight smile played upon his angular albino face. Maybe Hogwarts wasn’t so full of boring people after all.
With a flash of realization, Valentin slid off his broom and pack next to the blanket. This was extremely convenient, he thought, after he had failed to accomplish his mission at the ball. Sliding a drawstring clasp out and opening the mouth of his pack, Valentin nodded. The pack turned upside down as the boy shook it, raining chocolate frog boxes down in obscene quantities. After all, the bag was charmed to have an interior more expansive than its exterior. In total, 73 unopened chocolate frog boxes tumbled on to the blanket, many overflowing into the grass nearby. These were the wages of stardom, but Niffler did not leave a sign to explain. This was his own invitation. Three of the boxes opened during their fall and released their inhabitants, which hopped away within seconds of impact.
What was the reason for the Niffler’s contribution? The only way someone could find out would be to approach him, thereby conveying some clues about the event’s mastermind in the process.
Would Der Niffler find Ileen at the scene?

The girl had moved away from the blanket again to hide more sweets in another area. No one had appeared yet. Most people were probably in the castle, gawking at the Goblet of Fire in hopes that their name would be spat out. Ileen snorted. That sounded like the perfect recipe for chaos and despair. Ergo, an event she would stay as far away from as possible. She knew Aida had applied, and even though Ileen was sure her twin would master all the challenges, part of her wished they hadn't been chosen. It was just very dangerous and she would not bear to lose anyone else.
As if fate had read her thoughts, she suddenly spotted a pale figure moving toward her blanket.
For a second she thought it was her friend Aida, but then she recognized a boy with a broom who followed her candy like a decoy route. He did not pick them up, however.
A little thrown off, she slowly moved toward him. He seemed to be about her age, but was definitely not in her class. Wasn't he from one of the other schools that were at Hogwarts for the event? Probably... Only which one?
While she was still puzzling, the young boy had parked his broom elegantly next to the blanket. With raised eyebrows, she watched him inspect the candy, corssing her arms in front of her chest in defense. She expected him to pick up a basket, or perhaps he was rude and would not even thank her.
Her mouth dropped open in surprise when he did just the opposite.
Her eyebrows continued to rise as she looked in wonder at the boy with a tilted head, who simply heaped more candy onto the blanket. He seemed so engrossed in his task that he hadn't noticed her yet.
Not wanting to startle him, she drew attention to herself by carefully clearing her throat and took a step closer, her arms still crossed in front of her chest. "Uhm, that's not really how it works." Her tone was teasing and amused. Whatever he was doing, he didn't seem to be here to mock her work.
His unexpected contribution distracted her from her dark thoughts and a giggle throbbed against her diaphragm. Finally it burst out in a not-lady-like snort. "What are you doing? I- Why?" It was not a rhetorical question, she glanced at him, curiously waiting for an explanation.
Now giggling openly, she sank to her knees and sorted the candy into her new arrangement. The whole situation had turned out completely differently than she had expected, and Ileen willingly jumped on the cart that carried her away from her dark thoughts. She didn't know him and she didn't trust anyone at first sight, but a little fooling around never hurt anyone. She had not known how much she had longed for silliness.
She came back to her feet with a wide grin and bowed exaggeratedly. "Thank you for your generous donation, kind stranger. I'm sure the numerous participants of this event are beyond grateful." She made a wide gesture that included the absolut empty area around them, mockingling underling her sarcasm.
Perhaps it was because he was as pale as her twin, in any case, she felt emboldened to lapse into her exaggerated chivalry. Nodding unctuously, she grabbed a random candy cane and waved him closer graciously. "Your contribution shall be rewarded, On your knees, my good one, I will now knight you. Knight of the..." She hesitated and thought for a moment. "Knight of the sweet secrets.”
She didn’t care if he thought she was stupid. She would never see him again and she needed to be silly right now.

It was the day before the ball.
He should be thinking about taking Gem to the ball and things relating to them.
But instead his mind was filled with Gem's friend, Akemi. The she-devil herself, the one who had the nerve to say Stalker Felix was handsome of all things. It showed how little she knew about him. The girl's voice rang inside his mind and he could still hear her saying those stupid words. 'You're the handsome one.' Kim shuddered and tried to banish her voice out of his mind. He needed to think about something else. A safe topic, like the break soon.
Yes. The upcoming spring/easter break.
It was something he'd needed to think about and choose.
He'd decided to stay at Hogwarts over the upcoming break, rather than go back home. Charlie had also done the same. So there really was no point in going back home this time.
It wasn't as if his parents would be at home, they were still really busy with their respective jobs. So if Charlie wasn't even around, there was no point in Kim returning home. Therefore, he'd elected to stay at Hogwarts over the break. It would give him some time to explore the place more too. But that would be a little over a week from now. And then, his mind strayed back to Stalker again. He didn't understand Stalker's Felix's actions. They didn't make sense.
He gave off such mixed signals.
It was so hard to tell what he was thinking and he had Kim constantly wondering.
Did Felix actually like him? Did he care about him? Or was he just messing with him? Maybe he should just stop thinking about him and let whatever happened, happen.
And so, his mind strayed to Sophia and Gem. Why those two and not Sage or anyone else? Well, Kim had a present for both girls that he hoped they would like. He'd dabbled in making jewelry before and thought some pretty necklaces would look nicer on them than they would on him. Or in a box somewhere collecting dust, so why not put them to use? Kim smirked as he thought of Sophia. She was quite the clumsy girl but adorable, naive and a bit innocent.
Lots of people would probably try and take advantage of her.
But if they did, they would be asking for trouble.
If someone dared pick on her and he found out or was there at the time, they'd regret doing so. Because Kim was rather petty when it came to getting revenge on someone. He had a one-track mind and was incredibly stubborn. If he set his mind on something, it would happen. The only question was how much time it would take. Kim reached up to run a hand through his purple hair as he walked around the grounds to get some fresh air into his body's system.
It was around this time that he happened to see a large sign there.
The sign read, Happy Easter! Candy for Free!
Oh, lovely!
Kim loved the words 'candy' and 'free' and would always gravitate towards these two things.
The girl standing there looked slightly older than him and seemed a little annoyed, was that the expression he was reading from her? But then, her current look was replaced by a smile.
One that looked a bit too forced for his taste. The girl had brown hair and eyes and Kim didn't recognize her, she definitely wasn't a Gryffindor but since she wasn't wearing her school robes it was hard to tell who House she was from. He didn't see any candy within plain sight but then spotted part of a wrapper nearby, almost hidden underneath a stone. Ooo, so it was more like a scavenger hunt! How fun! Kim picked up the candy from beneath the stone there.
And then went on a rampage to find other candy around the area.
After a few minutes, he'd found a bunch of pieces and stored them inside his pockets.
They were actually bulging now but Kim wasn't done! There could never be 'too much' candy because one could always share it with others too. And so he continued to look for more. As to where he could put more, there was always his jacket. And then he could even take off his jacket and use it as a carrying prop to pile more candy into it. Yes, Kim had lots of ways to come up with obtaining and carrying candy away from the scene. There was such variety too!
That was the best part.

Today was an odd day for Sophia. She loved her friends, so very much. Sage and Kim were precious to her in ways they couldn’t imagine. She would do anything for them anytime.
…But today, she was going out of her way to avoid them. And not just them. Everybody. Sophia had skipped class for the first time of the year, and she’d thus far avoided speaking to anyone.
Today was the 1st of April. As a muggle, Sophia had suffered many pranks on this dreadful day. Swirlies, being tripped, stolen glasses, and many, many more. She hated April Fool’s Day. She couldn’t imagine the pranks that could be pulled by wizards, so she didn’t even try to imagine them. She just avoided everyone and hid whenever a prefect or Professor approached. She was lucky she hadn’t been caught.
Now, her little journey had led her to the castle grounds, where she continued avoiding as many people as possible.
Then, she noticed something.
Candy was everywhere, both hidden and scattered haphazardly across the area. Part of her was entertained, thinking of the story of Hansel and Gretel. The other part was terrified, knowing this had to be a prank.
She pulled out her wand and poked a nearby chocolate frog cautiously. Nothing happened, thankfully, but she wasn’t convinced yet.
“Flipendo!” she cast in the general direction of the candy on the ground, putting just enough oomph into the spell to knock the frog back a bit, but not cause much damage to the surroundings.
She wanted to test the candy some more for safety reasons, but her next spell was interrupted by the growling of her stomach. Right. She’d skipped lunch and breakfast today too.
One Chocolate Frog wouldn’t hurt, right?
She quickly unwrapped the frog and shoved it into her mouth, not even giving it the chance to squirm.
“Mmm,” she moaned happily, “So good.”
The sun reflected off a bit more packaging in the distance, beckoning her to the other sweet. There was more candy?
Not even bothering with the spell this time, Sophia hastily unwrapped it and shoved the candy -it was chocolatey and marshmallowey- into her mouth, chewing ravenously. So delicious!
She didn’t know why there was so much candy, and she didn’t care. She was hungry.
She followed the candy like a trail, devouring it as she went.
By the time she reached Kim, her face was covered in chocolate, marshmallow and caramel, and her mouth was essentially glued shut. Her pockets were filled with empty candy wrappers, which were falling out and onto the ground.
She almost didn’t notice Kim, bumping into him and his bulging pockets.
“Kmm?” she asked, barely able to open her mouth even a little because of the enchanted caramel.
She followed his gaze to see a curious scene: a familiar looking student was knighting an unfamiliar looking student with a candy cane. What?
Then she remembered that Kim was beside her, and she also remembered the date. Oh no!
She drew her wand with chocolate coated hands and pointed it at Kim.
“Dn’t try anthin’!” she exclaimed. She wouldn’t be pranked today!

So it was around this time that Kim realized something belatedly.
There were mini baskets on the picnic blanket.
This implied people who wanted to take some candy were supposed to use them to carry them off with. Kim felt kind of stupid for not realizing this ahead of time. But it was better late than never. He walked over to the blanket and picked up a mini basket and then went back to collecting candy again. A box of chocolate frogs got in his way and he picked it up and placed it into the basket. Scooping up a few more boxes, he went in search of other candies.
He'd been able to scoop up quite a few of them and had filled the basket almost to its brim.
That was enough.
There were still countless more candies scattered around, which was awesome. Hopefully, other students would come around to partake in this delicious giveaway by a great student.
Kim had a few ideas in mind on how to use these.
And not ALL of them had to do with his stomach. He wasn't going to eat all of them.
Well, maybe not. But it was tempting. Kim glanced over at the only other person at the scene. Other than the girl he'd noticed before. The boy looked foreign and he wondered if he was from one of the visiting schools. What language did he speak? Kim couldn't help but become curious. However, before he could ask, someone bumped into him. As he turned to face the person, a familiar face met his eyes. Sophia's mouth was apparently full of candy.
Which was currently gluing her lips shut. "What a glutton!" Kim exclaimed with a smirk and shook his head, finding Sophia both cute and adorable. Why did she do such things? She was literally asking for someone to take advantage of her! The thought made Kim made a face. He didn't want to see that and would do anything he could to protect her from the seediness of the world. And then Sophia suddenly backed off and raised her wand at him.
Kim blinked.
"Swallow first and then tell me again! There's no need to rush!" He told her.
He waited for her to finish what was in her mouth and went over to the side with his heavy basket and took a seat on the grass. He didn't care that he was sitting directly on the grass.

Colin had nabbed some cheese and apples and a few rolls from the Great Hall and had run down towards the lake to read during lunch. There he found a likely tree, climbed up a bit and was now happily reading and munching.1 April 2022
Wearing: Nice new Slytherin kilt from Christmas; school robes (can never have too many pockets!)
Reading: A favourite book
He'd decided to read Heart of Ice, and was thoroughly engrossed in the tale when a most bothersome noise rose up from the lawns below! Colin was just getting to an interesting bit. He closed his book, tucked it in his pocket and looked down to see what the commotion was all about.
A red jumper and head of brown hair bouncing about. The girl the commotion belonged to was all huffing and puffing as if the world had just committed the gravest of injustices against her. With a thump and harrumph she dropped a box of something rattling and the she whipped out a blanket and began to shake out her blanket with a loud fwip and a fwap! Colin thought she must be really on about something.
He shrugged and got his book back out to read some more.
But he didn't more than nine and three quarter words farther along than before when he heard another commotion from below! Some posh looking blond haired boy in a black coat and carrying a fancy broom came along then and began snooping about! Colin looked closely --- he could see now that Miss Sturm & Drang had laid out a spread of sweets. That was unusual. And then broom boy began to tip out his satchel for of choco frogs! Maybe they were preparing for some kind of sweet treat exchange?
A then a most wonderous thing happened! Colin forget about his book entirely as he watched the scene play out. The brown haired girl had come back and discovered what the boy had done. She didn't seem angry anymore or even particularly upset. No, he knelt before her, like a knight before his queen, and while Colin couldn't catch all the words, it seemed very much like she had just knighted him. Colin forgot all about his earlier annoyance. He loved when things like this just sort of happened, like in a story!
He decided to go down and see more closely. So he hopped off the branch he'd been sitting in, dangled hands for a moment then let go. He landed silently in the grass a little away from the sparkly blanket and box full of sweets. Once on the ground he saw someone familiar heading over. None other than Kim Sato! Colin knew him a little and would liked to have said hi, but Kim seemed to be drawn like a magnet towards the spread of sweets and he took off on a grand and glorious quest to find as many sweets as he could! Colin laughed softly. He said to himself: If those sweets were cursed, poor Kim would end up in hospital for a fortnight!
Walking over towards the treat display, he turned his gaze towards the two who had poured out all the sweets. He didn't recognise the blond boy at all. But the girl looked vaguely familiar. Was she a Slytherin, too? It was hard to tell in the oppressive gloom of the common room who was who; and that was a place best avoided anyway.
"Good afternoon, Miss," he said solemnly. How bowed low towards her. But never took his eyes off her hands.
Just in case.
"I saw you spread out all these sweets and thought that was pretty grand! I'm sure lots of students will be down here once they hear about it! --- Well, if my friend Kim doesn't nab them all first!" He nodded over towards where Kim was gleefully tracking down hidden sweets. "I wish I had something more to contribute, Miss, but all I've got is this gorgeous apple from lunch. They're really sweet, too! I'm happy to share it."
And with that, Colin placed his apple on the pile of sweets for kids to choose from.

Kim really hadn't been paying much attention to his surroundings at all.
Not until Sophia had run into him.
He hadn't really taken a good look at the foreign student, or the girl who'd set this whole thing up, mostly because he'd been intent on finding as many sweets as possible.
Yes, he'd glanced at them before, but there would be time for greetings afterward. If they were still there. And if they weren't, well it didn't matter. It wasn't as if this was a game or some kind of gathering where they were expected to get to know everyone. But when Colin came onto the scene, Kim's eyes met the other boy's from a short distance away and he nodded at him. He'd met him back in the past his first week at Hogwarts. That Irish bloke.
Colin, the Irish boy, that was who he was.
Kim was currently wearing a pastel pink outfit this time and had paired it with a long silver earring that dangled from his left ear. The pants he wore were white.
So it wasn't a good idea to sit on the grass like he was doing right now. He could easily get grass stains on them. But Kim didn't really care. There were charms for cleaning stains off clothes and also the old-fashioned muggle way of washing them. He glanced over at Colin as the boy spoke to the girl, saying something about sweets, Kim, apple, and happy were the words he'd caught. Kim was too far away to hear the entire convo but those words stood out.
"Hey! I didn't take that much, Colin!" Kim exclaimed with a smirk. "Look at all the candy still left scattered about and on the blanket! There's tons!" He said, gesturing to the insane amount still leftover after his attack. The girl really had seemed to have cleared out Hogsmeade of all its candy and sweets it seemed and Kim wondered how or why she'd done it. "Oh, right. Hey, Colin. This is Sophia, she's one of my friends."
He looked over at the girl Colin had been talking to before.
"If you're the one who set this all up, thanks! I love chocolate and candy, so I couldn't resist." Kim said with a 'smile' on his face.

Sophia bristled at Kim calling her a glutton, but she realized that he was right. She was a glutton. She crossed herself and resolved to go to Confession once she went home for the break.
She pouted at Kim. How come he wasn’t intimidated by her? She’d had her wand pointed right at him! Granted, with this candy clogging her mouth, actually casting a spell would have been impossible, but still. She was intimidating, right?
She sighed and put away her wand, crossing her arms and intensifying her pout. It was almost a total frown.
“Pt, mmm ktl,” she attempted before finally chewing the sweets in her mouth and swallowing. Her eyes watered in discomfort as she forced the candy down her throat, and she decided that in the future she’d be more careful about chewing more thoroughly.
“Pot, meet kettle,” she said as if she’d not just failed at a basic human function.
She turned to the newcomer boy, muttering a shy ‘hello,’ then back to Kim. All thoughts of April Fool’s Day were lost at the sight of Kim relaxing on the grass. How dare he?
She sat next to him and reached over, rifling through his pockets for more candy. That would show him.
While she did so, she smiled at the girl who’d been knighting the other boy and smiled gratefully, “Thank you for all of this candy. It was delicious.”
She used her left sleeve to wipe the chocolate from her face and beamed at the girl.

Colin smiled at the older Slytherin girl and turned to head over towards where Kim was sitting in the grass, surrounded by veritable mountain ranges of sweets! Colin couldn't fathom how one bloke could possibly eat all that.
"Hey! I didn't take that much, Colin!" he'd called over.
"I call bullocks, Kim! You're surrounded by more mountains of sweets than Hogwarts is surrounded by actual mountains!" He threw himself to the grass and stretched out in front of Kim's princely haul and a poor Ravenclaw girl who looked like she'd taken a swim in a chocolate lake!
"Look at all the candy still left scattered about and on the blanket!" Kim said excitedly.
"Oh, aye! I looked! And I saw the Niffler Prince of Sweets snap them all up! And that prince is named Kim Sato!" He laughed
"There's tons!" Kim said.
"Aye. There's more tons over there, but in point of actual fact, there's still loads of tons all around you!" Colin couldn't help but wonder about the girl sitting with Kim. "Kim, did you caramel her teeth shut?" Kim introduced her as Sophia and she said hello. He'd seen her cross herself before and wondered if she were Catholic, too?
Colin couldn't help but laugh as she fought to chew and swallow the candy! "Sophia! Are you okay? Give us a sign --- wave frantically or grunt mouthfully if your candy's been cursed by this trouble maker! I'll teach him to curse candy!"
