Dale looked up from his spot on the ground at the edge of the Great Lake as the clouds that had filled up the sky all day finally began to part and reveal  the sun. He beamed as felt the sudden warmth hit him, and turned his attention back to the lake itself. Beside the small, blonde boy was a pile of smooth rocks he had collected around the grounds.

Dale had grown up in Liverpool, right along the edge of the water. His parents were frequently busy with work, so one of his favorite things to do after school would be to go to the water and skip rocks across the surface. Every now and then, he'd catch a glimpse of some interesting fish or other fascinating sea creature just below. When he heard there was not only a large lake on the Hogwarts grounds, but that a giant squid lived inside, he was naturally ecstatic to try to spend some time there.

Dale picked up one of the rocks and inspected it closely. He stood up, weighing the rock in his hands, and tossed it out into the lake. It made a plopping sound and then sank into the depths.

Guess I'm a little out of practice. Or maybe it was just a bad rock.

Dale knelt down and picked up another stone, determined to try again.
