The Ravenclaws seemed to be prepared for such occasions and the next moment, Callie summons Aida's wand to hand it back to its owner. Aida, expecting that spells might be wishing to fly a certain way, decided that rolling them away would be nice tactics.

Despite Astrea's attempt to disrupt Callie's casting, the wand was retrieved, but it must be what failed Aida to complete the dodge efficiently. Sarah's direct Knockback Jinx hit Aida in the shoulder to set her away just several centimetres. The wand found its way to its owner's hand, but at the cost of slightly damaging hit. The fog was still there, but it seemed not that thick anymore, or Meenauh's eyes were getting used to looking through it.

Callie partly wished she was an all seeing all knowing creature of the ethos. Maybe then this whole duelling malarkey would be a little more predictable! But then again perhaps the excitement lay in the inherent chaos within?

These were questions Callie wasn’t sure she knew or even wanted the answers to. All she knew was that Aida now had her wand back at the cost of a nasty hit. Not exactly the best but not the worst outcome. There’s always the risk of beings kebabed by rogue spiders and that was MUCH worse. Or thrown into the air accidentally by your best friend. That one was also quite nasty.

“We’ve got this Aida!” Callie reassured with a bright grin despite not really seeing much. She wasn’t even sure if Aida could even see it but the good intentions were there all the same.

From the short exchange of conversation travelling through the the duelling club’s chaos and what limited vision she had, her partner’s knockback had hit its target, only for the blonde to have bypassed an attack in lieu of retrieving the lost wand. For her close miss, Astrea’s reasoning mind could only cast blame on the the wall of smoke, providing but a hazy cast of the other side of the duelling piste. It seemed to be lightening up ever gradually, most likely to dissipate sooner than later, but for now they were wrapped in a scentless smog whose indiscriminate effect disadvantaged both teams involved, the sideblow of cool wind to her side signalling to her the predicament of Sarah. The duel had just began and yet it was clear that both houses were in it for the long game, chipping away at defences in a magical arms race of spellwork.

Sarah was pleased that her spell managed to hit its desired target - something which she'd been slightly unsure of when she'd cast it due to her reduced vision. The fear of her spell accidentally missing and hitting her own opponent was still one she was mildly terrified of, despite having no reason to worry that such a thing would actually happen. Best not jinx it, she said inwardly as she still fought off the breeze blowing her hair wildly around her head. Her partner's spell did not fair as well this round, missing its target as Callie dodged out pf the way, though she wasn't worried yet. The duellists on the piste today seemed evenly matched, something which wasn't the case for her last duel when she'd been outmatched by age and experience. Now, she hoped, she could win for the snakes once again. They were sure to find a crack sooner or later.

The next couple of seconds were pretty much eventless. The silence was broken by two incantations from the Ravenclaw side, but no one got hurt or at least hit. The whole stage was filling with the smoke again, which, as Meenauh realised, was now a strategy. Whatever these people thought they could do when no one sees them, was a mystery to Meenauh. One thing was the Nebulus, which Meenauh was casting herself, but Fumos just didn't make sense to her. But they'll see how that will play out this time.

The Slytherin girl wasn't entirely sure what had just happened until the piste was once again filling with a thick smoke. She'd become distracted, and though she wasn't entirely certain what had caused her lost focus, she thought it might have something to do with the flash of fur she'd seen dash below the feet of the crowd when she'd been able to fully see the audience without being hindered by smoke. She made the mental note that maybe bringing Nova to her duels wasn't the smartest idea. Not that being distracted by her furry friend would be an issue if the Ravenclaws insisted on refilling the piste with smoke every time it started to clear away.

Perhaps it was her momentarily lapse in concentration which also caused her to panic for a few seconds when the smoke did start billowing around her. It was all too reminiscent of the day her family had been cut in half and she'd lost her mother and Al. The smoke was thick and it obscured her vision once again of nearly everything more than a foot or two in front of her, though the fact that she could still her the gathered crowd - and if she listened closely enough, the slight inhale and exhale of her partner - was something she was able to focus on. It brought her back to the present and away from dark and painful memories. It also helped that despite the startling density of smoke, it didn't smell like burning, not like it had then.

She shook herself, focussing once more on the duel at hand. She'd not let the ravens get the better of her or her house just because of her own lapse in focus. "We've got this, Astrea. Just keep focussed," Sarah said, directing the first part to her partner before lowering her voice and attempting to psych herself back up. She flourished her wand, delicate aspen twirling around lithe fingers before settling once again in a firm grip.

Odd was an understatement. Then again much of Callie’s life could be classed as odd at this point. Most of her friends at her last school could not at all claim to deal with the whole literal magic thing after all. Unless you counted card tricks as real magic, which Callie most definitely did. Now THAT was real wizardry.

Speaking of wizardry, Callie pulled herself from the realm of magicians and rabbits in hats to refocus on the matter at hand. You know….that whole duelling thing she loved so much.

It seemed that Astrea spoke too soon of the fading smoke as the cloud cover over the piste was once again revitalised with such rapid density that it was very obvious what the eagles hoped to do. Occupied with discerning her hazed surroundings and unwilling to cast without some semblance of accurate judgement for fear of the unintended consequences, all she could do but attempt to remain hidden within the smoke, ever lucky to not have been targeted.

Never before had she participated in a duel so dependent upon hiding from public view, the other team's strategy allowing only their collective skills and the ever-fickle judgement of the luck gods to aid them in swaying the result. Letting out a vague hum of confirmation towards her partner's reassurance, there was little else to do than ready for the next round of spellcasting, the gifted privacy settling in nicely to encompass them once more.
