Mei walked through the hallways down from the Ravenclaw common rooms. It was a slight far walk but nothing she didn't already do every day. She walked in through the great doors and walked over to the Librarians desk and returned the books she had previously borrowed. She walked away feeling a few pounds lighter considering the three books she had just returned were rather thick books. She always preferred to read the thicker ones. The would take longer and she wouldn't have to make a daily trip to the library as often. She had gone from visiting the library to maybe twice a week to now once or twice a month.

She walked through the shelves looking for a new book to read. She was looking for a particularly thick book. Maybe just check out two books this time....Nah check out as many as you want. She waved her hand in the air dismissing the thought from her mind. She checked out the lower shelves. Ugh, they're kinda dusty...Probably because people rarely go down here She shrugged her shoulders and grabbed a book off the bottom shelf. She blew off the dust. It was the first book she had ever read at Hogwarts.

She looked at it in awe and flipped the pages. Hey! This page is stuck together! She pulled at the pages and they opened stretching out a piece of gum stuck between the pages. Oh, it's that piece of gum I accidentally stuck in her during my first year. She scraped the gum off the pages with her nails. She took the book and began walking again but someone bumped into her making her drop her book. Hey, watch where you're going would ya'! She looked at the boy who had run into her and bent down to grab her book.

Justin did not often come to the library. He did sometimes wish he did, but there was always something else to do. When, of course, he hadn’t forgotten. That happened a lot. It wasn’t that the library was too far, or crowded. Quite the opposite. But still.

He walked through the long lines of shelves lining the carpeted floor, stretching on and on for ages. The library was probably one of the largest rooms in the castle. That he knew of. There must be thousands of books in here. Most were tucked far above the reach of any human. And definitely that of house elves. Then again, they had magic which they could use basically whenever they wanted.

He stopped in front of a shelf, and looked through it. After a few minutes, he found the book he was looking for and pulled it out. It was quite heavy. One of the heaviest he’d ever borrowed. He picked it up and walked off towards the librarian’s desk, studying the cover intently.

It was an interesting cover. Like many other books in the library, it was of plain leather, with the title set in the centre.

While he was studying it, he felt someone else bump into him, which was quickly followed by a loud crash as a book fell onto the floor. He looked up to see a girl, probably a second or third year, angrily saying something about looking where he was going. Rather rudely. Where had she come from? I’m so sorry,” he apologized. “I was looking at something else.”

Mei placed her hand on her hand looking at the boy. He was wearing Hufflepuff robes. "Ugh of course you're going to apologize. What Hufflepuff wouldn't apologize. And maybe you should watch where your going instead of at something else. My god you Hufflepuffs are so damn incompetent. Can't even stand up for yourselves." This was the third time this week a Hufflepuff had done something that irritated her.

First she got bumped into and knocked her sandwich onto her lap. She had worn a white skirt that day. Second a Hufflepuff spilled a whole thing of ink onto her homework. And now this Hufflepuff ran into her and made her drop her book. She had about had it with the house completely. She had her wand with her too. Maybe she would hex this jerk. No she'd get a detention for that. She didn't want that. Well she did but she didn't.

She looked at the boy again wondering what he would say next. Usually Mei didn't get like this but she had been having a rough week. A very irritating , rough week. She had to throw her skirt out, redo her homework. What could possibly happen next? Her week was probably just going to keep getting worse at this rate. Three unlucky days in a row. She was just having a lot of bad luck. Didn't give her a reason to be rude but still. She was just irritated.

You see, this is why he disliked people. Whenever you were minding your own business, someone has to come along and ruin it for you. Why? People are really awful sometimes.

And why bring up Hufflepuff? Everybody was prejudiced against Hufflepuff just because they are actually nice. “Maybe we have manners. Unlike some people,” he retorted, immediately regretting it. To be fair, his patience was really being tested now.

Besides, he’d already apologized for not looking where he was going. It would have been so much easier if everyone would not talk so much. If only. That would be bliss. But it is not to be. Because of all these jerks that just can’t.

This train of thought wasn’t helping at all. He stopped and tried to calm down, rather unsuccessfully. He had no wish to make this situation even worse. Think. Maybe she could have been having a particularly bad day. That wouldn’t be too far-fetched, considering how today was going for him so far.

Still, that was not much of an excuse for ruining someone else’s day. It didn’t help anyone. All you did was get another person to dislike you; an achievement he was long past now.

The perfect way to start the morning.

"Excuse me! Who do you think you're talking to!? Don't even get me started on manners. You bumped into me you incompetent prick! Mei was fuming. Her face had become a dark shade of red in her anger. She was getting tired of this damned Hufflepuff. How dare he insult her by saying she didn't have manners. She had manners. This boy just didn't deserve for her to be nice to him. She was so close to just pulling out her wand and casting a spell on him but retorted from it.

She paced trying to calm her nerves why she continued to yell at the boy. "You are absolutely ridiculous! You know that. Blaming me for this mess! You bumped into me! You were the one not paying attention! I go to take a step and you come out of nowhere! I could've dropped my book on myself. Then you would be really be sorry. But no. You're just apologizing and then insulting me! That's it!

Mei fingered her wand before whipping it out not carring if she got in trouble and pointed it at the boy and moved it in a check mark shape with a short curl at the end. "Flipendo!" She shouted as the boy flew backwards. "That oughta teach you not to mess with me again you self centered brat!

This was the second time she’d called him incompetent. An unusual word to develop such a fascination with. Not the most friendly personality. You typically don’t want everyone you meet to want to punch you in the face. That would be quite fun – for him at least. Not that he’d do it. He wanted to, but was nowhere near strong or fast enough for that. Fortunately, magic existed!

Not for use in the library, though. The library was literally the last place you’d want to ‘duel’ in. It is so much easier to find someone in intense agony when there is no-one else around for miles. Not that it would ever happen. Totally.

Justin looked on, as the strange girl started pacing around, fuming. She was screaming unintelligibly again. It is always so hilarious when people do that. It looks extremely stupid. It is so much easier to just zone out and watch than actually try to listen. That would just make him even more mad, and he’d do something he would regret. Again. So much easier this way. The only downside was that he often missed key information, like helpfully informative evil plans.

And so he missed one key phrase – which would not really have assisted him much anyway, as his wand was still tucked in his pocket. It was quite sudden. The spell he heard clearly – it was hard to miss. One moment he was standing; the next, flying across the room.

That was it. There was a limit to how much someone can stand. He got up and pulled out his wand. This was definitely getting detention for this. “Tarantallegra,” he shouted, tracing a pair of legs.

Mei watched angrily as the boy flew back across the room. She was shocked when she saw him get up and cast the Dancing Feet Spell upon her. She did nothing for a second. "Ha yo-" She was interrupted by the sudden movement in her body. She began to move around wildly dancing. She grunted. Curse this damned spell, it's nothing more than a distraction. She tried to turn her body to face the boy but quickly spun around in a circle. She quickly tried to think of another spell to get him back.

"Ugh" She shouted as she turned to the boy again her legs and torso still moving insanely. That was it! She had thought of the perfect spell. If this doesn't teach him she didn't know what would. She pointed her wand at him again struggling to keep it steady. She did the wand movement for the Fire Making Charm. "Incendio" She shouted and twirled again dropping her wand. She continued to dance a little bit longer before falling to the floor the spell finally wearing off. She watched as the boy's robes suddenly caught aflame. She smirked.

"If Flipendo didn't teach you this outta do the trick" She stood up and dusted herself off quickly and grabbed her wand.

Fire? In a LIBRARY? This girl was mad. There was a reason he hadn’t used that spell. How dare she try? If the fire spread...

Worrying about that would have to wait. Right now, he had more urgent matters to deal with, such as being burnt alive.

Fortunately, it hadn’t yet spread very far. OK. Don’t panic – it will not help. What were his options?
Magic? No. Chance of failure way too high, and limited options available. Water or handy canister of compressed carbon dioxide? Unavailable. Also, the latter cannot be used on humans anyway.

Instead, he decided to just pull off his robe, and throw it down on the ground. Not a great option, as it was carpeted. He quickly did so, and attempted to smother it. This was met with moderate success. He managed to put out the fire, but not without the cloak being badly damaged.

He picked up the garment, now much cooler, and looked up. “Seriously?” From her little speech earlier on, he gathered that he now supposed to give up in despair. But she underestimated his resolve. Besides, there was no way he’d ever get out of this, so why bother trying?

Nevertheless, this was dragging on for quite a long time now. It wasn't getting anywhere. So, what now? Most spells he couldn’t cast here. Very unfortunate setting. He pointed his wand and said, “Flipendo!” “That is enough. How long do you plan to keep doing this. Either one of us gets seriously ill or injured, or you destroy the library. Both of which are terrible options.”
