"I didn't say anything about being friends," She corrected Pax. The first year was incredibly stubborn, and if you start off on the wrong foot with her, it will take exceptional effort to turn her opinion on you around. Especially if that wrong foot was insulting the one thing she is most passionate about. "Let's just say, we're neutral for now. We neither hate nor like each other, deal?" She questioned before adding, "No, I am not surprised in the slightest to know that you've gave someone else a wrong first impression." She shook her head in slight amusement. She wasn't about to admit this to Pax, but Adelaide also had a problem with speaking before thinking, so she slightly understands where Pax is coming from. Even though it is annoying.

The blonde simply nodded when Pax agreed to stay and watch, "I do know about Quidditch. Though I don't follow it that much, I have to admit. My sister and father are obsessed with it though. Are you thinking about joining your house's Quidditch team?" She asked Pax curiously. Adelaide hadn't attended a single Quidditch match this year, so for all she knew, Pax could already be on their house's Quidditch team. "I'm considering joining Ravenclaw's Duelling team." She added as an afterthought.

She raised her eyebrow in question at Pax's comment of 'not talking bad about dance to her face', her skin prickled in anger as she said, "How about just not talking bad about dance, period? I'm glad you've learnt better about not saying it to my face, but it's never nice to talk bad about something people love, even if they aren't around." She breathed deeply, trying to stop her anger from increasing and starting another argument when her and Pax had only just got on neutral terms. Adelaide was not sure how the rest of today was going to go.

Pax sighed, but nodded. "Alright. Though hate is a strong word...but alright." They pouted ever so slightly. It usually worked to get their way with their parents, but they weren't expecting much sympathy from Adelaide. She'd made it quite clear how she felt about Pax.

"That's a bit of a shame, but I respect your decisions. I guess quidditch isn't for everybody. I'm on the waitlist to be one of the beaters for my team, but it could be a while. Duelling does sound interesting, and it'd be cool to try it, but I'm already committed to quidditch." They shrugged. Quidditch was their absolute favourite thing anyways, so they hdn't thought loads about joining other teams.

Pax took a slight step back, seeing the anger flare up again in Adelaide's eyes. Damn, they'd done it again.

"Yep, yep, sorry. Lesson learnt." Pax held their hands up. "No insulting dance. I promise I will try not to insult dance. Is that alright? Because I can't make any promises that nothing will slip out accidentally. Now, is there a place I can sit and watch you dance? Maybe you can convince me that dance is better than I think it is. No offense, if you take offense by that."

Pax looked around for a seat or something to sit on in the room, but couldn't see anything. They were pretty unfamiliar with this space however. "You wouldn't happen to know if there is a chair here somewhere that I can sit in to watch?"

Adelaide acknowledged Pax's pout with a slight roll of her eyes, but didn't say anything else about it. Honestly, she currently felt as if she was years older than Pax, but in actuality they were in the same year. She had to put great effort into refraining herself from telling Pax to 'grow up', which was a feat in itself when Adelaide rarely ever held her tongue, but it was a Saturday morning and quite frankly; she couldn't be bothered to argue with someone right now.

Adelaide nodded, "It's cool," She said, referring to Quidditch, "But it's definitely not for me. I wouldn't particularly like to fall off a broom very high up in the air. But hey, if you do become a Beater, you should invite me to your first match. That way you can show me something you're interested in." It was only a suggestion, and an attempt from Adelaide to make peace with Pax, even though they weren't entirely forgiven just yet. "Dueling does seem interesting, and slightly dangerous, but I wouldn't say as dangerous as Quidditch. Yes, you can get hit with unpleasant spells, but at least there's no risk of falling from 50 feet in the air."

Another nod from Adelaide, "I'm glad you've learned your lesson. Maybe, if you stop insulting dance, we can become friends. That's a maybe though, and you're not entirely forgiven right now," Some may think that Adelaide was being too harsh and serious with Pax - who was simply only stating their opinion - but Adelaide didn't necessarily like opinions that she didn't agree with. It was just the way she was, and she didn't plan on changing that anytime soon. The blonde gave the room a once-over, "No, I don't think there are any chairs here. You could just sit on the ground though, since you seem to like doing that."

Whether Pax sat on the ground or not, Adelaide would make her way over to the gramophone to put the music back on in preparation.

Pax bit their lip to stop from laughing at Adelaide's exasperated expression, but a small smile may have crept through. They didn't think that would go down too well. But, if Pax and Adelaide were to be friends, Adelaide may well have to grow accustomed to dealing with Pax"s childish tendencies. In return, Pax would probably have to learn to hold their tongue. But it would be a good learning experience, surely?

"Yeah, that's understandable,"Pax agreed with Adelaide's statement about falling off the broom. "It can be dangerous, but I guess for me that's part of the fun of it. And I'd love for you to come to watch if I do become beater. Maybe I can convince you to have more of an interest in quidditch, even if you don't want to play."

"Well, I do my best." Pax shrugged with a slight smile."But I'll have to warn you in the event that we become friends, I'm not always this responsible. That was a joke, by the way,"Pax added hurriedly."I know that I can be childish and immature, but I guess that people have always just put up with that. And, well, speaking of immaturity...I will sit on the floor thank you very much."

The smile on their face slowly widened as they sank back onto the floor, cross-legged, watching Adelaide as she prepared to continue.

"Maybe you will make me more interested in Quidditch," she said in a slightly challenging tone, "but yes, definitely do invite me to your first match. Send me an owl, or if you see me in the corridors or anywhere just come over. I'd love to go see it, and I suppose it's only fair since you're going to watch me do ballet right now." Maybe this could blossom into not exactly a friendship, but more a truce. Adelaide goes to Pax's Quidditch matches, and Pax watches Adelaide do ballet. Potentially.

The longer she spent with Pax, the more Adelaide had to come to terms with the fact that they were similar in personalities to the point where it unsettled her. She could see herself in Pax, and she did not like it at all. The blonde was well aware that she didn't get on with everyone, and she didn't much care, but to be annoyed at someone who acted similar to you? It was unnerving, at least to her. At least she wasn't childish, immature or irresponsible like Pax - that brought some semblance of comfort to the first year - but Pax was brutally honest and seemingly stubborn, just like Adelaide. At least they weren't that similar, she supposed. Everyone had a least a tiny bit of stubbornness and brutal honesty in them, right? She should probably stop overthinking this. She's met other people similar to her before, it's definitely not as deep as she's making it out to be.

Adelaide shook herself out of her whirling thoughts, "While people may put up with your childishness and immaturity, I will not be one of those people," she declared, "so I'd suggest keeping the childish behaviour to a minimum around me," Once Pax had sat on the floor and Adelaide had put the music on again, she continued, "I'm not going to bother actually teaching you about ballet or what moves I'm doing or anything like that, considering you likely do not care. I'm just going to dance, and hopefully you'll see how it's a great way to express yourself. I'll do a dance even people who aren't interested in ballet should know. The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. You've heard of Tchaikovsky, I hope." She gestured to the gramophone as the music playing from it filled the room, then she moved to the middle of the room, got into position and started to dance. (OOC: Even though Adelaide would never admit it, she's definitely not as good as the lady in the video, considering the woman is a professional ballerina who has been doing it for years and Adelaide is 12. It's simply just to give you an easy link in case you want to watch it!)

Once the dance had finished and the music ended, Adelaide bowed before straightening up again, "So, what did you think?"

Sensing the challenge in Adelaide's tone, Pax grinned. "Alright then. Challenge accepted. And yeah, I'll drop you an owl or something when our next match is comng up. I can't wait to see what you think."

Pax would take any opportunity to share their love of quidditch with others, and if they were educated about someone else's passion in return-well, what was there to lose? Underneath Adelaide's cold and poised exterior, Pax guessed that there was some part of her that wanted to just let her guard down even a little bit. Being so composed all the time surely must take a toll on her?

"Alright, I'll try not to act 'so childish'...but you should try to loosen up a little! Come on, is not so tiring being so composed and poised? Let loose a little, do something stupid!" To try and get the blonde to loosen up a little, they began to wave their arms around and bop their head to an invisible beat, laughing at their own idiocy. "Come on, join in!" They held out their hands, waiting to see if she'd join in, though deep down they had a feeling this could be futile.

Pax watched as Adelaide began to dance, tapping their fingers on the floor to the beat of the music. They had to admit, she was good. And to go on pointe like that, wow. They didn't know how Adelaide didn't scream every step.

When she'd finished and done a small bow, she looked expectanly at Pax, who began to quickly clap. "Impressive. You looked really graceful. And, from a non-dancer point of view, your technique seemed to be good. How you can control yourself whilst balancing on one toe, I do not know."

Pax got up, attempting to replicate the dance, but easily losing balance and tripping over their own feet somehow simultaneously. They shrugged it off with a laugh as they rolled to sit back down, leaning on their hands. "See?"

Adelaide blinked as she stared at Pax waving their arms around like a madman. "I am not doing that," she stated, her answer short and clipped: no room for argument. "I'm not always composed or poised, however you want to put it, I just don't do stupid things like... that in public." To each their own, she supposed, but if Pax thought they were ever going to convince Adelaide to 'let loose a little, do something stupid!', they were not in their right mind. Letting loose and living a little did not constitute to embarrassing yourself in public, at least in Adelaide's opinion - which was always right, if you were to ask her.

The blonde smiled as Pax complimented her dancing, "Thank you! It takes a lot of practice, just like everything else. Practice makes perfect," Adelaide tried to hold back a laugh as she watched Pax attempt to replicate the dance, though she was fighting a losing battle as a chuckle slipped out either way, "Well, for starters, you aren't wearing any pointe shoes, which help immensely with standing on pointe. Two, you would definitely have to learn the basics of ballet first before even trying to attempt that dance."

"I'm not going to bother teaching you, though," the Ravenclaw said, "because I doubt you actually care enough to want to learn ballet. Though, if you do miraculously end up wanting to do ballet, there is always classes you can take." Adelaide definitely didn't think ballet was up Pax's alley, considering they had talked down on it mere minutes ago and also because they were clearly more into dangerous, less graceful sports such as Quidditch. Ballet did not fall into that category in the slightest.

Pax shrugged, though inside they were mildly disappointed. They had secretly hoped that Adelaide would try to loosen up a little more, and be a bit more relaxed. But if they didn't want to, there was little Pax could do. Unless...

With their outstretched hands, Pax took Adelaide's wrists gently, pulling them slowly back and forth to an invisible beat, moving their feet to said same invisible beat, a grin still plastered on their face. "See? It's not so bad, is it? Ok, I respect that you don't want to seem like a fool, but a little chaos and spontaneity from time to time is great too. "

"Well, you must've had a lot of practise with ballet then. But not everything can be practised. Spontaneity and improvisation is great sometimes too." Pax added.

"Yeah, I suppose so. Isn't ballet mostly in French or something? Because if that's required to learn, I'm failing instantly. Languages are most definitely not in my skill set."

Pax looked at the floor a little wistfully. Honestly, they did regret talking bad about ballet. Though it probably wasn't the best choice of dance for them, it was cool to watch, and seemed fun to do.

"What other styles of dance do you know?" Pax asked, getting to their feet again. "Maybe you could show me a few moves from, you know, a style that suits me considerably more than ballet? And, if you'd like, I can show you how to play quidditch."

Adelaide couldn't help but be mildly amused as Pax grabbed ahold of her wrists, pulling them back and forth slowly, though she didn't show it as her facial expression remained neutral. She took her wrists out of Pax's grip - not exactly harsh but still firm - as she stared at Pax, "I have to disagree with you on that one. Chaos and spontaneity usually ends up with someone getting into trouble and trouble usually ends up with a detention, and I would rather not get a detention, thank you very much."

"Yes," she nodded, "I have practiced ballet a lot. I prefer doing things that I know I can improve and get better with the more I do it, like ballet: the more I practice, the better I get. The same goes for piano. Improvisation is only good if you know what you're doing, but if you go into a test for example without studying, you're definitely going to fail, and I wouldn't want that. I doubt you would either," she shrugged. Adelaide couldn't help but chuckle at Pax's comment about French, "The moves are named in French, but no, you definitely do not need to be fluent in French to learn ballet. I'm not even fluent in French, though it definitely is a beautiful language."

The blonde tilted her head thoughtfully, "I suppose contemporary ballet could be more up your alley. It's more fluid and graceful in movement than classical ballet. I could give you a demonstration if you want? See if you like it?" She questioned, "Although, you may be more interested in the hip-hop side of dance, which I don't do. Though I'm sure you could find someone to teach you hip-hop if you're interested in that. You could try and teach me Quidditch, but I don't have my own broom." Unsurprisingly, Adelaide did good in her flying classes and she definitely wasn't terrible at flying. She could fly on a broom quite fine, though she prefers not to majority of the time, so it would be quite impressive if Pax successfully convinced Adelaide to attempt Quidditch.

Staring back at Adelaide's unamused expression, Pax slumped a little. They couldn't lie, they were quite used to hanging around people with a similar energy to thir own. Adelaide most certainly did not match their energy with the same chaotic nature as others. And Pax didn't mind that, not all the time. If anything, their mother would be proud they'd befriended someone so seemingly sensible. But, especially at times like this, sensible could be a bit of a buzzkill.

However, as Adelaide stared at them blankly, Pax smirked and stared back, inadvertently beginning a staring contest- at least on their end. "So you get a detention or two? It's a small price to pay for the sweet sweet taste of rebellious freedom."

"Makes sense," they nodded. "Practice will make you improve, that's a definite given. But issue- or at least, my issue- with practice is just the repetition of it. Doing the same routine, playing the same piece of music, it gets boring. Like, when I was younger, my mum tried to teach me how to play the violin, but I just couldn't handle the repetition of the scales and pieces. So I leave that to my brother now."

"I suppose it is quite nice to hear. They say French is the language of love, don't they? I wonder why that is." Pax tilted their head towards Adelaide. "You're smart, aren't you? Do you know?"

Pax considered the idea of contemporary ballet. "Well, I'm always up for trying almost anything, so why not contemporary ballet?" They stood up and shook out their limbs a little. "Just a quick question- how flexible does this require me to be? Because I'm not sure I can even touch my toes."

I'm sure Professor Stube would let you borrow a broom. I'm still on a school one, though hopefully I'll get my own soon! We have three at home, but they're shared and expensive so Dad said we couldn't take them. Anyways, you should definitely give quidditch jut a try. Who knows, you might enjoy it more than you think."
