During lunch break, March 31st 2022
Lunch time was one of Samantha's favorite moments of the day, since the break gave her time to chat with her friends and eat some of the delicious food which the house-elfs had made. Most of the time, the brunette would be surrounded by friends during lunch, but this time she sat alone. She needed to copy some notes from her last class into her new notebook and decided to do that during lunch. Knowing how chatty she could be when she was around her friends, she knew they would distract her from her schoolwork and Samantha found her schoolwork too important for that.

While eating her sandwich, Samantha was franticly writing her notes down. It was kind of hard, trying not to spill anything on her brand new notebook, eating and writing at the same time. It also didn't help that the young girl spotted a little spider next to her glass of milk, which she had just wanted to drink out of. Spiders had never been her thing, but since the attack of the shadow spiders in the Ravenclaw common room, they frightened her. As soon as she noticed the spider, she retreated her hand and tried to move as far away from the spider as possible. Suppressing a scream, Samantha looked around her, trying to find one of her friends who could get the spider away from her. She soon realized all her friends were sitting at a different table and she would have to face the scary spider alone if nobody would help her.

She quickly got of her seat and picked up a knife, which she pointed towards the spider, trying to defend herself from the little creature. Scared, she looked around her trying to find somebody to help. "Help, somebody?" she asked softly as her blue eyes scanned for a student to be her hero.

Mina had just walked into the great hall, ready to grab some food, eat and then head out side to study the charms book Clair had helped her find. SHe say a girl sitting alone at a section of table and started to walk over, thinking this quiet area would be the perfect place for her to eat and read her book.

She started when the girl got up and pointed the knife at her milk. She suppressed a smile and as she got closer she saw what the girl was really pointing her knife at. A small, black spider. She laughed slightly and then looked to the girls face and saw fear, if not large fear, but still fear on her face. She stopped laughing and walked over to the spider and picked it up and then flicked it off her finger to the ground and watched it scuttle away, she turned to the girl, “Hey.”

She smiles and picks up a stray napkin and wipes her hand, “Sorry about that, but you seemed afraid of the spider there. Thought I’d get rid of it for you. I’m Mina. Mina Starr, and you are?” Mina didn’t think about her words as they left her mouth, as always, and after she said them, she didn’t realize that they could be rude or pushy, but she wasn;t going to say sorry, that was what she always did.

Terrified of the eight-legged creature, Samantha held onto the knife like it was the only thing to protect her from an early death. The little spider was just chilling next to her glass of milk, not realizing which effect it had on the girl, it probably didn't even care. Samantha could see a girl approach her from the corner of her eyes, but she kept looking at the spider. There was no way she would let the animal out of her sight. The girl became her hero when she casually picked up the spider and flicked it off her finger. Sam carefully watched the little spider scuttle and when it was far away from her she could breathe again. "Thanks!" she said with a little smile. "And hi," she added, greeting the girl as well.

When the girl wiped her hands with a napkin Samantha sat down after checking the place for spiders. She gratefully smiled at the girl when the first-year talked about getting rid of the spider. "It's nice to meet you! I'm Samantha. Thanks again for getting the spider away. I don't like those things at all, they scare me a lot." Samantha didn't want the other girl to think she was scared of everything so she quickly added. "I am not scared of a lot though. It's just spiders you know. They have so many legs and they move so fast and they are just horrifying." Samantha was very passionate about explaining why she found spiders scary and completely forgot about the notes she was writing before.

"You want to join me for lunch?" she kindly asked the other girl, wanting to get to know her hero a little better.

Mina flashes a smile, “You’re absolutely welcome!” Mina stets her book on the table, “Well, Samantha, you mind if I call you Sam? I can see why you don’t like spiders, I know loads of people who don’t.” mina looks at Samantha closely, “May I ask why your afraid of spiders? Did something trigger it? Or is it irrational?”

She sits down across from where the girl was sitting and tilts her head, “Sure, you seemed kinda lonely there for a moment, and it looked quiet over here, I have some reading I need to do on charms. I thought this would be a nice spot to eat, read and then get out of here.” She laughs softly and looks at the girls things, “It seems you had similar ideas. Atre you taking notes or finishing and assignment?”

She picks up some food and puts it onto her plate and starts eating, waiting for the girl to sit down. “Trust me, there are no more spiders in your little corner. I checked.” She pointedly looks at the girls seat and the table in front of and looks back at her a smile on her face, trying to lighten the situation.

"Sam is good! A lot of people call me Sam, I like it," she told the other girl with a big grin. The smile disappeared when Mina mentioned the spiders again. The second year debated in her head whether she should tell the other girl about the spider attack. After a few seconds, Samantha had decided to tell the girl a little about it. Mina had saved her from the horrible creature and just said she could see why Samantha didn't like spiders, so it was okay. "Well, last year there was this huge spider, it was like the size of a big dog, and a lot of tiny spiders in my common room. They attacked and cursed me and some other students," she explained to Mina. She had a hard time talking about it, even though it was more than a year ago that it had happened. "Anyway," Samantha sighed, clearly not wanting to talk about it anymore, "are you a first-year? Or do you look younger than you are?" Samantha looked younger than she was so she knew it could be annoying when people assumed she was a first-year student.

When Mina talked about sitting somewhere quiet Samantha nodded, agreeing with her. "Yeah, I wanted to write my notes from the last lesson in my new notebook since there is no place in my old one anymore. My friends are over there," she pointed to a group of students, who were all chatting with each other while eating lunch. "But I know myself and if I am with them I keep talking, because it is so much fun. But I almost finished writing my notes, so I can chat with you now if you don't mind talking. I mean if you need to read your book that's fine as well, I don't want to keep you from your work!" Samantha gave the girl a sweet smile, not wanting to force Mina to do anything.

After Mina assured her there were no more spiders, Samantha said down. "If there are you will need to save me again," she said teasingly. "Also, do you like reading for fun as well or do you just read for school?" Samantha asked before she took a sip from her milk. The brunette loved reading and read almost every day before sleeping.

Mina leans back in her seat, while eating her food and listening to the girl. She looked at the page number in her book and then closed it, giving the girl her undivided attention. Mina lets the subject on spiders drop, the girl seemed to be uncomfortable talking about them. She smiled slightly when she talked about her age, “No, I’m not younger than I look, I’m 11 and a first year of Gryffindor.” She noticed howe the girl looked like a first year herself, but had just basically said that she was a second year.

She looked over to where Sam had pointed and noticed the group of second years, and smiles slightly, “I don;t really have a group of frinds yet, I’ve been more focused on getting my work done that I haven’t really talked to any of my house mates yet.“ She nods when the girl mentions talking and not stopping, “I know how that feels, I could never stop talking to my friends at home to finish my class work, the conversation was just too interesting. But I’ll stay and chat, my homework’s not due till later tomorrow, I was just trying to get a head start on it.”

“No problem, I don’t mind being the hero every now and then, it’s more than just talking and never shutting up.” She laughs softly to herself. She smiles when Sam asks about her reading habits, “Oh, I just love reading, in and out of school, what about you?”

Samantha had always found it easy to make new friends, so she had a hard time imagining how the other girl didn't have a group of friends yet. The brunette had loved her friends and couldn't think of living without them. "You can sit with me and my friends sometimes if you like. My friends are nice and I am sure they wouldn't mind if you join," she offered the girl with a little smile. Samantha was in a lot of different friend groups and still liked making more friends.

Mina talked about her friends at home and how she also loved talking to them, which made Samantha curious about the life of Mina before Hogwarts. "Where are you from before you got to Hogwarts? And are your parent's wizards or muggles?" she quickly asked the other girl, while having a dozen other questions ready to ask.

Samantha nodded approvingly when Mina told her she liked reading even if it wasn't for school. "I love reading too! I think books are great and when you read books you can learn so much!" she said happily. "Even if you read fiction you can still learn a lot. At my old school not a lot of kids liked reading for some weird reason," she shrugged before finishing eating her sandwich.

((So sorry about the late response, I’ve been super busy.))

Mina smiles at Sam’s invitation, “I would love to, but I mostly pop in and eat and then open my book and read for the remainder of the time. Though, if I get enough friends around me, I may not read and instead spend the time never shutting up.” Mina laughs softly, rubbing the back of her neck.

Mina shrugs, “A small town in Britain. My parents were both wizards, though most of the people i. My town were muggles.” She smiles slightly. “All my friends were muggles and I grew up doing most things the muggle way. I hated it when my parents gave up and used magic, even in the safety of our home, I’d always ask them why they gave up, the answer was always, because it’s to hard.” She laughed softly, “I’d then ask if they saw muggles giving up, they would frown and ignore my point and send me to do my chores.”

Mina laughs softly, “Books have some many things in them, the stories may be fake, but the lessons are real.” She grins slightly, “From noon to sunset, every Sunday, I’d sit out side and read with a glass of water, tea, or lemonade. I never understood why some people think reading is for ‘losers’.”

Mina nicely turn down the offer to join Samantha and her friends sometimes. "Reading is a great way to spend your time and so is never shutting up," the brunette said with a big smile. "I do both of them all the time. Some people say I talk too much, but I don't think I talk too much. Do you think I talk too much?" She did talk a lot, but the second year refused the belief that you could ever talk too much. Talking too much was the same as having too many friends, it was just impossible.

Samantha would have loved it if her parents were wizards, that way they would have been able to help her with schoolwork, but they were muggles so they couldn't help their youngest daughter and she just had to figure out everything on her own. The duelist smiled when the other girl laughed about her parents' answer. "Muggles have a lot of things to help them too, so they don't do everything by themselves. I mean I love my tablet and I miss the electronica whenever I am at Hogwarts, it's sad that those things don't function around magic."

"Yeah same!" Samantha told the other girl, not understanding how reading could be for losers. "Reading every Sunday sounds nice, I always read before I go to bed or when I finished my homework." School was more important than reading, so the young girl made sure to finish her assignments before relaxing.

Mina listens to Sam and shakes her head, “No, not at all, but maybe that’s because I talk a lot as well.” Mina really did talk a lot, if she was with someone who didn’t mind her endless prattle, she would never shut up, ever. Her friends back home could barely handle it sometimes, but she knew they loved her.

“Yeah, it does suck, but I never really had much electronics where I was. I mean a TV a phone and a computer, that is it.” She had never been crazy about electronics, but she had really wanted to keep in touch with her friends back home. Well, we certainly can’t have everything, can we? she thinks to herself.

Mina grins, “Before bed is nice, it calms me down and when I don’t have anything to do, I’m reading.” She toys with the cover of her Charms book and slips it into her bag, “What kind of books do you read? Any particular Authors? Do you read muggle books? Or Wizard books? What are your favorite book?” She was asking so many questions, once they popped into her head she was asking them right away, she just wanted to get to know this girl.
