Clumsiness Can Be Rewarding
Mei walked through her common rooms and walked out. She walked down from the West tower stopping by the Kitchens to steal a quick snack. She snuck in and grabbed some strudels she had made the other day. Technically it wasn't stealing if she had made it herself but she liked to think otherwise.
She snacked on it as she walked through the Great hall to say hi to some of her friends. She gave them some strudels and walked through to the courtyard. She was taking the long way. She wasn't in any rush so no reason to go straight outside. She walked through the courtyard and to the Great Lake. She stood there for a second at the edge of th courtyard looking around.
There wasn't really anyone there. There were a few kids that looked like first years trying to dare someone else to swim in the lake. A prefect it seemed walked over and began scolding them. Mei snickered and continued eating her strudel. She always found it funny when other people got in trouble. She even found it amusing when she, herself, got into trouble. She would always have to try her hardest to keep a straight face. Didn't want to get into more trouble for laughing when you were being lectured on why you shouldn't tie people's shoelaces together so they fall when they stand up.
Mei dusted off her hands after finishing her strudel and started walking to the Great Lake. She was halfway there when she tripped on her own shoe lace which had come untied sometime along her walk and she tripped. She put her arms out trying to catch onto something. She fell all the way down. She got up but unfortunately slipped again but this time she didn't feel the ground.
Instead she felt something else. She had fallen into someone, fortunately they had caught her. She looked up to the person. He had white hair and pretty blue eyes. She blushed in embarrassment. "Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry." She stood up quickly.

It was Monday, September 6th, 2021.
Kim had skipped his first flying class back on Thursday, the 2nd.
He'd enjoyed a period of four days blissfully free from the horrors of said class.
But now it was Monday, which meant tomorrow was Tuesday and that in turn meant the second time Flying Class would be held for First Years. He couldn't miss it again.
Needless to say, Kim was not looking forward to this. A sigh escaped his lips and he could feel himself tensing inside. Maybe if he truly got sick he'd be excused from flying class a second time. He'd finished up Potions moments ago and had chatted with the energetic Avery Chen for a bit afterward. The boy was growing on him and Kim had to admit he was intrigued a bit.
Shaking off his thoughts, Kim changed out of his Gryffindor robes to go through his closet. He'd gotten his parents to send him some new outfits. Well, he'd written to them, and someone had sent them. Most likely the caretaker, one of the servants or one of the house elves. Kim now had a very nice array of clothes he could choose from. He picked out one, a dark outfit, and got dressed. Picking up a dark hat to match, Kim placed it on top of his head.
He looked into the small mirror in the room.
And adjusted the hat, so that some of his hair covered part of his face.
The small earring in his right ear and the longer, dangling one in his left ear remained in place. There was no need to change them as they matched his newly chosen outfit now.
Kim picked up a pair of black lace-up boots and placed them near the entrance of his room. Going over to the door, he knelt and pulled them onto his feet, taking the time to lace them up. He felt like getting some fresh air and sketching some things and the best place to do this was at the Great Lake. There were so many things to look at around those parts. Kim put a quill, an inkwell, parchment paper, water and a few tasty chocolate frogs into his satchel.
He placed the latter's strap over his shoulder and glanced around the room.
Maybe this would serve to clear his mind for now.

Kim left the Gryffindor dorms and headed down the stairs, hoping the staircase wouldn't change. Thankfully, luck was with him and it didn't do so.
He got outside and drew a breath of cool, fresh air into his lungs. It felt so good, he could almost taste the air and it was delicious! The rest of the time spent walking to the Great Lake was uneventful but then he hadn't expected anything out of the ordinary to happen to him. It was only when he reached his destination that something surprised him. Someone suddenly came flying towards him. Like a human missile. It was the definition of an unexpected event.
Kim didn't have time to dodge and instead instinctively caught them in his arms. The strap on his shoulder fell off and his satchel hit the ground a second later. He blinked upon looking down at the blond girl in his arms. She looked surprised too and then quickly stood up with his help and Kim let his eyes flicker over her. The girl looked older than him, perhaps a higher year? He'd guess either a second or third year. But then again, maybe he was wrong.
She could also be a first year.
There had been instances where some students had to remain behind for a year.
Regardless, Kim wouldn't know anything until he actually asked her and so he tried to smile. He didn't tend to smile often and when he did it was more like a smirk. You might say he didn't have much experience giving genuine smiles to others. Therefore, it was hard for him to tell whether he was actually smiling or not. Smirks to him were smiles. "You in a hurry or something?" Kim asked, curious. He stooped to pick up his satchel from the ground.
And then he placed the strap over his shoulder again.

The boy smirked at her. Or maybe it was a smile? Mei wasn't sure and pulled her flannel, which had fallen down, back over her shoulders. "Oh no, I just um...I tripped over my shoelace" She said as she bent down to tie her shoe and then stood back up straight. She studied the boy for a second watching him. He had a nice style. She liked his hat...and his boots. She liked his eyes most. They were a pretty blue.
They were pretty close to the same height. He was taller by a good 2-4 inches. She wasn't sure. Her boots had platforms on them making her seem a bit taller than her actual height by a good 2 inches. He bent down to pick up his satchel which had fallen from his shoulder when he had caught her. "I'm sorry again. I'm just a bit clumsy. And apparently didn't tie my boot tight enough." She said realizing she hadn't introduced herself and held her hand out. " I'm Mei. Mei Hagikura, Second year Ravenclaw. You are?"
She was sure he was a first year. She didn't see him around during her first year. Maybe he was a second year? He kinda looked like one. Sort of. He was probably a first year. She looked at him again. How was his hair so white? It was like silver and white. Kinda like shimmering snow. She stepped back and waited for him to respond.

The girl's words made him raise a brow.
Ah, so she wasn't in a rush. She'd just tripped over her shoelace. How did one do that?
Perhaps she was a natural clumsy person? No matter. Kim nodded, accepting her response and watched as she bent down to tie her shoe. Taking care of the problem right away.
That was a good approach. She apologized and then confirmed his earlier impression of her by stating that she was clumsy and hadn't tied her boot well enough to keep it from unraveling on her. "It's fine." Kim reassured her, it wasn't as if he'd been drinking or eating anything when she'd run into him. And there was nothing inside his satchel that could break easily, so there was no harm done at all. Kim grasped the girl's outstretched hand to shake it.
"Kim. First year Gryffindor. You seem like you're familiar with this place. Have you been out here often?" Kim asked, curious. If she hadn't been rushing, where had she been heading towards and for what purpose? What would a second year be doing out here? A lot of girls tended to go outside and get caught by him. It was starting to become a trend for him. He briefly wondered if they had found out his surname and were doing this on purpose.
But no, he was probably reading too much into it.
All of this was most likely just coincidence and nothing more, right?

The boy reassured her letting her know that everything was okay. Mei should have been more careful anyway. She probably should have made sure her boots were tied correctly before she left her dorm as well. She dusted at a grass stain that was left on her jeans. He shook her hand. She let a small smile spread across her face. At least the boy was friendly.
He introduced himself as Kim. He was a first year. Surprising for her as he was kind of tall. Well she was just a slight bit short for her age. Mainly because her mom was also short standing at a solid 5'0. Her dad wasn't much taller than 5'6. Mei stood somewhere between 4'11 and 5'2. She didn't inherit much from her father.
"Oh Yeah I come here a lot. It's pretty peaceful here. Besides the occasional splash of water whenever a student is brave enough to follow through a dare to jump into the lake. I like coming here to relax or to meet up with friends." She looked at the boy. She hadn't seen him at the sorting but she probably wasn't paying enough attention. But either way he had already told her he was a Gryffindor. That was cool. She hadn't met many people from Gryffindor.
"So Kim what do you come down here for?" Mei had a habit of calling people by their last names. She wasn't much a fan of using first names. She only used first names whenever someone asked her not to call them by their last name. She had to use first name for him because she didn't know his last name. He probably didn't tell her for a reason.

Mei responded to him.
She told him she'd been here a lot and that she liked coming there to relax or meet friends.
Ah, so it was a popular spot for students. Kim had heard rumors of this but hadn't known if they were correct or not. Apparently, they were true.
"Right." Mei's question made him remember why he'd come out in the first place. "I was going to look for a peaceful place to sketch." Kim told her and let his eyes flicker around the area. "You know of any places like that around this area? A place that I wouldn't be interrupted by students? But still have a good view of the surroundings?" He asked, curious. After all, Mei probably knew the place better than him.
She'd said she came there a lot.
Therefore, it stood to reason that she should know all the best spots.
Kim shifted the strap over his shoulder and waited for Mei to respond to his earlier question. "If you do know of a place, can you take me to it?" He asked, just to make sure she knew not to just give him directions. After all, he kind of liked her looks. Part of him wanted to do a sketch of her too. But not right here. This location wasn't really the best to draw at. There was nowhere good to sit and vantage points were everything. Kim needed a good spot.
