Well, Hogwarts sure was different compared to Ilvermorny. It seemed bigger, taller, and certainly older. Mildred had already gotten lost multiple times, and being the independent girl she was, didn't want to ask for help. Which lead to her being more confused, and just asking for help, anyways.
Mildred kicked a rock across the courtyard floor. So far, she hadn't made any friends yet. She had spent most of her time "hanging out" with her Ilvermorny friend Grayson, though their time spent together was usually her dragging him away from people he picked fights with. He'd gotten into multiple fights already, and Mildred reminded him about his promise to not grow a bad reputation across the pond. She was pretty sure he had already broken it. Men, she sighed.
Maybe she should try and socialize with some people. She blew a strand of her wild, curly hair out of her face, looking up at the sky. Some of her fellow classmates had already found friends from Hogwarts or the other schools and acted like they've known them for years. Other than Grayson, there was one person she was friends with. Someone she acted completely differently with, but she hadn't seen them in years...
Mildred bumped into someone and stumbled back, slightly shocked. She took a deep breath before looking at her new acquaintance. "Ugh, I'm so sorry about that..." She rubbed her head and looked at the stranger.
She had a black robe, a few of its parts a dark-ish red. A Hogwarts student in... Gryffindor, right? Yep. She was sure of it. Her skin was a dark tan, her hair brown and curly, and her eyes were a milk chocolate brown. Mildred was sure she never met the stranger before, but something told her that she knew this person pretty well in the past.

Things had become more interesting ever since the other schools were here at Hogwarts. That was more students, more drama, more problems. Honestly, it was like everyone was emotionally unstable here. Reena gave weird looks to the older kids, who always seemed to want to kill each other. People were strange. Around this time, students peacefully chatted with one another and did not try to kill each other. This was the time when people gossiped about recent news or events that they heard. For Reena, this was the time she wrote letters to her friends. In fact, she hadn't sent her weekly letter and she was sure if she didn't send one soon, her friends would hunt her down. The only problem was that she didn't really have anything to update her friends on! The last exciting thing was when she accidentally set the sleeve of her classmate on fire in potions. Her partners haven't let her near the potions since then, which gives Reena time to doodle in her notes. But even doodling can get boring when you miss your friends.
The Gryffindor common room was full of absolute weirdos. The boys, for one, seemed to have formed a cult. They stare daggers at new firsties who joined their dorms, which really freaks Reena out. Thank goodness she was with the girls. But the girls were.. a bit weird too. They all seem to have this dark past or a shared nightmare. Especially the older ones. The older years are another species. They like to keep Reena afraid, maybe. They never explain the grim shared looks when someone mentions a certain year. Like, what could possibly have gone wrong that they refuse to speak of? Maybe Reena was the only one who heard, but Hogwarts was the safest place on Earth.
But the older students still seem to be distant, like they were over socializing. Well, fine. Reena didn't want to tell you about that cool worm she saw one time anyway. Outside was much much better anyways. The fresh hair was so much better than the smell of a fire crackling in the common room. Nice and cozy, oooh. But the fire's warmth made the room feel cramped, anyway. She preferred the smell of peaches, anyways. Once outside, she felt 50 times better. She began to walk with a bounce in her step, spinning and doing groovy footwork across the pavement. Was this the time for dancing? Always. Her small backpack bounced round as she spun in every direction, her robe swirling around her feet. She took a particular interest in this, the way the robe spread out and swooshed across the ground, stirring up some leaves. While she was keeping her eyes on the ground, she lost her footing and began to stumble. "Oh, crap!" Her hair flew in her face and she felt someone bump into her. Almost like an instinct, her hand shot out to help the person. She missed the hand of the girl and grabbed at air. "Ack!" She caught her balance and shoved her hair from her face as well as fixed her robes. She brushed herself off as she blew a curl from her face, allowing herself to set eyes on the girl. "Wait wait wait just one single second." She took a step back and squinted, her eyes scrunching in concentration. She KNEW this girl. Very well.
She gasped dramatically. "You're MILDRED!" She said as if the girl didn't already know. A sudden laugh escaped her mouth. The stranger she had bumped into was not a stranger at all, and was in fact an early friend from New York. Even if she lived in Costa Rica before moving to London, her mother still organized family trips. One year, they went to New York and Reena made a great friend. After that trip, they visited New York more often. But at one point... the trips stopped. She hadn't thought she would see Mildred again, yet here she was in all her glory. Reena couldn't be happier. A familiar face was just what she needed. "I can't believe you're HERE! At HOGWARTS!" Which meant Mildred was a witch TOO! Finally, a friend she didn't have to keep secrets from. "It's me, Reena!" She added, just in case Mildred forgot.
