There was a definitive slouch in the Slytherin Captain's posture as he strode into the dueling arena for his last Hogwarts duel of the year. After learning that he was up against another set of children, all the enthusiasm he had for this Stage dissipated in an instant.

Lifting his hand with his wand hanging limply from his fingers, Dmitri managed to talk in the driest tone he could muster. "Prepare yourself... surrender now yada-yada-yada..." A huge sigh would escape him then. "...you know we're going to win... so on and so forth."

He desperately wished his opponents just dropped unconscious on their own accord so he didn't have to do it himself. Dmitri was over this duel even before it started and has the vaguest inkling that maybe the audience was, too.

Oh well. Can't be helped.

Doing as strategized

So far this year had been the entire opposite of the last and most of all in terms of duelling. Last year she had been with Adonis from her year and they had lost against a few powerful opponents. Now things were different and Opeila was sure that herself growing stronger was a part of the reason why she hadn't lost once.

Another reason was of course her duelling partner Dmitri Jones, the upper year bully, who was pretty much the strongest (and oldest) of the entire Slytherin team. And finally the two of them had been paired up with lower year opponents a lot.

It was not different this time. Opeila entered the stage, awaiting two second years from house Ravenclaw they were meant to duel today. The young third year was not too excitied, no, she felt very safe.
And not surprisingly at all, so did her partner, but unlike herself, he seemed to feel a need to let them all know, causing Opeila to roll her eyes.

"Hey Jones", she murmured, only loud enough for him to hear, "Silence is gold, you know?" No, she couldn't resist calling him out, seeing his reaction had already amused her last time.

The last duels of the year and her house was up against last year's champions. Samantha knew that every win counted and she would do her best, even though she and her fellow second-year were up against a third and fifth year, who had never lost a duel. Instead of scaring her, it made her even more motivated to give it her all in hopes of winning and helping her house to become this year's champions. She may or may not be a little overconfident after she won her last duel.

Before getting on the stage, Samantha smiled at her duelling partner and she lifted her right hand, which was holding her wand, for a high five. "Good luck," she told the pale boy she was paired with. Although both of them were only in their second year and knew not as many spells as Opeila and Dmitri, she didn't want to start the duel in a negative mood.

As she stepped on the stage, she wondered if her sight would turn black and she would fall unconscious or if she would make it through the next 12 rounds. Hoping for the latter, she gave her opponents a little nod and smile, acknowledging their presence, before having to listen to the oldest duelist being extremely cocky. Samantha suppressed an eye roll, not wanting to repeat her first duel, where there were more insults thrown around than spells. "I am not a quitter, so I am not going to surrender. We will see where this duel goes," she replied, knowing that the chance they would win was pretty small.

Cade felt very nervous for this upcoming round what with the reputation of their opponents. In the past, Slytherin had always been their biggest rival. But never before had Cade competed with two of their strongest duellists. It was not anything he was really looking forward to either. Cade hadn't truly prepared well for the match. Putting off his spellwork for hanging out with friends on the grounds, confident that he'd get his homework done on time. But the match sprung on them quicker than he could say dueling and he regretted not cramming enough in time. He was the shame to all Ravenclaws at this moment. Cade hated not being prepared. Nevertheless, the young wizard would level his wand, preparing for Lydia's mark. Ignoring the overwhelming pounding of his heart and barely hearing the taunts Dimitri lazily threw them into the air, Cade would shake the bangs from his eyes.

The duel was off with an incredible start from both teams.

Dmitri immediately showed his great skills in spell casting, as his Wind Jinx was aimed towards both of the Ravenclaw duellists; however, something seemed off about the Ventus that was supposed to aim for Cade, because this jolt of wind flew right for Samantha. The young girl managed to avoid this rebellious wind blow, and almost avoided the one intended for her from the start as well, but Dmitri's Jinx hit her, and the strong wind blew against her, making her movements difficult.

At the same time, Opeila and Cade chose to cast Ventus as well. Opeila aimed her wand towards Cade, easily hitting him square on his chest; despite that, Cade was still able to hit Dmitri, as the amount of wind on the platform raised even more.

Collecting her hair into a ponytail in order to observe the duel even better, Lydia saw Samantha aim her wand towards the 5th Year Slytherin, and soon a black blindfold wrapped itself around the boy's head. Despite being only in their second year, both Cade and Samantha had shown how skilled they already were; anything could still happen, but Ravenclaw was ready to fight with everything they had in order to win, just like Slytherin.

Dmitri could only laugh in reply to Opeila's comment. "You speak as if you could've won any of our previous two duels without me being there." The older Slytherin would scoff before nonchalantly letting loose two gusts of wind towards his opponents from the corner of his eye (which would explain why he missed). "I'm quite sure I'm not teaming up with the likes of you next year, so I just desperately hope you don't lose twice like you did before I came into the picture. Because that would be quite... embarrassing, would it?"

The boy would sigh in frustration as a magical blindfold would wrap around his head, interrupting his spiel. If he were a mere first year he would have found the situation more horrible than it was, but his opponents seemed to forget who he was.

"Let me show you how we do it around here."

Even through his blindfolded state, the spectators would see him raise his chestnut wand in the direction of his opponents.

The match was getting off to an exciting start. Cade managed to hit his target cleanly, but he also forgot to move his feet in order to dodge incoming attacks. A volley of wind came towards them and the young wizard narrowed his eyes to it, raven hair whipping in the wind. Air catching his lungs made it difficult to even breathe. Thankfully Sam's wand did not falter while she too aimed for Dmitri. How her blindfold zipped through the strong winds, Cade could never begin to say but he was proud of her nonetheless. "Nice one," He called over to her above the whistling winds.

Cade found it exceedingly difficult to keep a straight face at the sight of Dmitri making threats utterly blindfolded. Perhaps his confidence should have rattled the young Ravenclaw, but regardless Cade heard a snort issue from his own mouth. "I hope for your sake your aim is true, Jones." He was surprised at even himself for being so daring. And thankful that Dmitri was blindfolded, thus could not distinguish his offense from the likes of their supporters sitting below.

Samantha aimed her wand at the oldest duelist of those on the stage and with full concentration she cast a blindfold his way. Taking away his vision should help the Eagles and the brunette was extremely glad when the blindfold wrapped itself around Dmitri's head. Seeing two wind jolts coming her way, she was only able to avoid one, being a little too slow to avoid the second one.

It seemed like she hadn't been the only one who was hit by Ventus, as her duelling partner was also struggling with the harsh winds as was Dmitri. Over the wind, she could vaguely hear Cade compliment her. "Thank you! I think Dmitri really enjoys our spells, don't you?" she yelled over to her duelling partner with a big grin on her face. Samantha was extremely glad about the start of their duel, even though she and Cade had also been hit, they had managed to hit Dmitri, who said something about showing how they did it around here. Opeila was the only one who didn't have to fight the whistling winds, but she did have a blindfolded partner, so Samantha hoped that would help her team.

"If it makes you feel better about yourself, I'm not going to burst your bubble." Opeila felt like sighing. Sometimes talking to this upperclassman felt like talking to a giant toddler, throwing with stones at random targets, only to pick a specific one when he was called out for it.

Only when he started about her last duels again- They had led this exact same conversation last duel, hadn't they?- she responded again. "Right, you seem to enjoy talking about this don't, you? I'm not going to waste my breath going through that topic again, just- Seems like a you problem you like to project onto me. Some people take mistakes and failures as an opportunity to learn instead of talking themself into a godlike position for having beaten- What?" She paused and turned to her partner. "Kids that were all two or more years below you? How very honorable. Perhaps going through some of this 'embarassment' yourself would be just great for you. At least my development is memorable in a positive way."

Satisfied, she watched her spell hit its target, one of Dmitri's doing the same, the other flying off elsewhere.
Instead the fifth year with all his high and mighty talk was hit by a ventus and a blindfolding spell himself. Opeila pressed her lips together, doing her best to hold back an amused chuckle and instead just sent an amusing smirk in the direction of the two second years. Yes, she was loyal to her team, but that did not mean that she was opposed to watching Dmitri having his ass kicked just a little.

If he was going to let himself be distracted by his own bullying, it only served him right. Silence is gold, Jones.
