Silence is Golden.....Sometimes Finished

"Yes, I remember that, again, I'm glad that you didn't." Verla giggled when she mentioned her first bad experience with a broom, when she almost snapped her neck. Verla smiled at Dana, she was glad that the girl was alright, and that she had helped her.

Verla remembered when she saw her from the window in an empty room and how she'd rushed outside and told her to lean back to stop moving. Then she had given her some advice to help her figure things out on the broom, the broom was an old one, so those weren't 100% safe, it said so too. Lake, her new companion, poked his head out and saw his family. So she let him go to them, there again went another bowtruckle, she was determined to find Oliver again, but she knew he didn't want to be found. She remembered when she'd first met him, and how they'd gone so far through a lot of things together. It was getting dark and Verla shivered in the cold, hoping the three of them could move their conversation elsewhere, maybe they could explore the cathedral in Elsewhere with her, she remembered when she went in there by herself.

Kyden looked at Verla. He was slightly intrigued by her. He had never met somebody like her before. Why not just talk. Who cared if you stuttered.  Giving into your fears only made them worse. That was something Kyden himself could attest to. However he stayed quiet and didn't say aloud what he was thinking.

The other girl Dana, he wasn't so sure about her. She seemed kind of interesting to but in a different way from Verla. Again Kyden kept his thoughts to himself and just analyzed the two girls. 

Suddenly he realized one of them had asked a question about the Giant Squid. "Well not quote me because I am not sure for certain but I would guess 1 of 2 things would happen. The first being that he would hibernate while the Lake was frozen. The second being that he is big enough and strong enough that he could break through the ice. However I think I am leaning toward hibernating of course."

He leaned back on the grass and thought about it. What did the Squid do when the lake was frozen. He was almost positive that the Squid would hibernate. The Merpeople to. Probably everything that lived in the lake went into hibernation in the winter.

Dana blushed at Kyden's answer since she didn't thing she spoke outloud, or prehaps it was just the cold geting to her and making her cheeks rosey as it seemed like the tempeture was falling by the mimute. Dana tried to figure out if it was actually getting colder out or if it was just her imagination associating a new unfemiliar place with coldness. Either way she started shivering.

"Y-your theory is interesting, but what if, and don't take my word for it, I have no idea what I'm talking about, there's a spell that keeps life at a normal tempeture under-water keeping all lives there the same? Your theories made a lot more sence though." She smiled looking back at him, rubbing her arms in an atempt to get warmer.

She didn't want to drag the young lad from the cold he felt so comfortable with, but she needed to get warmer. Dana also didn't want to step away from the conversation she was enjoying so much, having been the first time she actually stopped feeling lonely. Then, an idea came to her.

"Kyden, you're a prefect, right?" She asked, her eyes sparking. "That means you know the rules well. Will we get punished if we start a campfire here? I mean we'll keep it under control, and we're right next to a water source to put it off. It can be fun, just telling stories and such." She offered hoping the brown haired boy would agree. Verla seemed to be getting colder as well, so even in case of a campfire being against the rules, she hoped the young prefect would agree to break them once, although she never said it outloud not wanting to sound out of line.

Verla nodded and agreed with him. Dana had asked about a camp fire, a fire sounded like survival right now. She felt her hands begin to freeze, which meant she would start to turn blue, so she hid her hands. She shivered still, to this point, she didn't care if a prefect was in front of her, either she had to get inside, or someone needed to warm her up, otherwise she would literally freeze, like Anna in the movie Frozen. She had only two people she loved, her sister, and one of her guy friends. Levi Kuria. 

She hated her curse, she had no way to embrace such a horrible thing. She was about three when she got the curse. She was with her wizard grandparents and sent her to play outside. She wandered out too far, and a witch had found her. She was furious and cursed young Verla right where she stood, and only that witch could reverse it since it was a home made spell. So now she had it for the rest of her life.

Verla gathered a pile of sticks, took out her wand and said "Incendio!" and the sticks lit up in flames, she put her blue hands in front of the small fire, she tried to hide her blue hands.

Kyden looked at the two girls. He was just getting ready to respond to Dana when Verla started a fire. He looked down at it uncomfortably taking a few steps away from them. He wasn't going to be in trouble. 

"You need to put that out! Without permission from a Professor that isn't allowed. I am not going to get in trouble for you guys. Sorry but yeah no."

Kyden could feel that it was getting colder. "It is getting colder isn't it. But the cold never bothered me anyways."

Kyden loved being in the cold. When he live in the orphanage he would play in the snow in shorts. Everyone had thought he was crazy. However he would never know why he was that way because he didn't know his parents. He didn't know if that's what they were like.

"I can walk you guys back to the castle if you'd like. However I plan on staying out here till curfew anyways. It's fun to finally be out of the castle just for fun. I was always so busy exploring inside the castle I never got to have much fun outside of it. But now that I can I think I like being outside there is so much to do and see."

Harper listened to the two other girls, Dana and Verla,and Kyden talk, choosing to stay quiet. Her eyes wandered over to the lake as they discussed something regarding the Giant squid. Zoning out, her thoughts soon changed to something else. in the winter, when the lake freezes over, I wonder, can you go ice skating? Even though she hasn't gone ice skating much, it was a fun winter activity she did enjoy. Too bad it isn't winter She mentally pouted.

What brought her back was the word "fire". She wasn't a pyro-maniac, but she did love fire. It was quite interesting. I heard somewhere that if you stare into the depth of a fire long enough you can see the future... She thought. She remembered that lone line from an American movie she had seen one time, but couldn't place which one.

All of the sudden, she felt heat beside her. Snapping her head in that direction, she gasped softly and moved to the side, surprised that a fire had sprung to life. Then, she remembered one of the girls must have cast a fire ignition spell. Looking up at the two girls she said quietly, "I'm Harper. Sorry I didn't introduce myself sooner..."

Kyden explained how he wasn't really bothered by the cold, and he was glad that he was able to get out of the castle for once. "I enjoy being out here for fun too. I hope you wouldn't mind if I stayed, too Kyden," She spoke up.

Verla put it out and giggled "Okay Elsa" Verla said to Kyden. Oliver shivered, even he was cold. She began walking back as she hugged herself inside her robe. She didn't want to come off as rude, so she told them she was going back, and could join her if they wanted to, and she began walking again.

She kind of hoped they would, they seemed nice, especially Kyden. She wanted to get to know him more. Oliver was happy that warmth was near, she shivered again. She wanted to begin to sprint, but last time she did, Oliver fell out and she'd forgotten him until she went back in a hurry when she noticed he was missing. He was still in the same place he'd fallen out of, and boy was he mad. He forgave her though, I mean, who could resist Verla Harness? The quiet girl who'd gotten detention for being in the restricted section, and how awful she felt afterward. After that, she made a promise to herself never to be herself like that ever again.

Aurelia walked through the trees carefully, insuring that she didn’t trip on a rock like she did the last time when she was making her way down to the lake. There wasn’t a pathed way to the lake and the soil was also uneven she had to watch where she stepped. Dried twigs snapped under her boots as she took another step, she wasn’t very stealthy and created a lot of unnecessary noise that might draw the attention of the creatures which roamed in the forest. The girl definitely didn’t want to get devoured she took bigger steps, hoping to get out of the dark forest as quickly as she could.

The girl rubbed her slim arms, trying to keep herself warm as she was greeted by the chilly Breeze of the wind immediately after she stepped out of the forest. It was an unusual weather for a spring evening. The lake wasn’t foreign to her, she had visited it a couple of time and it was as beautiful as always. The waters glimmered against the orange sun which was already lowering itself into the horizon. It was a place she liked to go to relax, at least it was better than the dusty Hogwarts castle.

she had heard somebody yell. The lake was usually quiet, but today, there were three people on its shore. They look young and was probably her age. She approached them.

“Hello, what are you guys doing?” The girl asked curiously.

Kyden turned just as Verla put out her fire. He was relieved to see it was a student and not a professor. It wasn't as though he would get into trouble. After all he was trying to get Verla to obey the rules. He looked at the new girl and smiled. 

"Well they were just going inside because they are freezing, Me however I am uhhh I guess Elsa as she called me. The cold never bothered me so I am going to continue to hang out out here. I spend to much time in the castle as it is so being out here right now is actually fun to me so uhh yeah."

He stopped talking and looked at the girl. He was surprised that she was able to sneak up on them like that. He was usually more alert. Maybe it was the fact he was so worried about being caught with the 2 girls having a fire out here he was so into being sure it was extinguished instead of worrying about who may be around them. Either way the new girl looked harm less enough.

"Anyways I'm Kyden. It's a pleasure to meet you. What's your name?" He said this as he stuck out his hand.

Verla stopped walking and saw a new girl by Kyden, ooh new person. She figured if she hadn't been there, Kyden would have been alone. So Verla walked back up to them "I change my mind, I don't c-care if it's cold, I want to hang out outside too, I'm inside too much, gotta do something. I'm Verla." Verla said to the new girl.

Verla sat down where her old fire was and watched as the embers died, how depressing she must've seemed. She stood up and chuckled nervously. "So Kyden, if you're so nice, how are you in Slytherin? Please don't take offense to that question, ugh forget  it,  I'm such a jerk." Verla looked down, slightly sad, then lifted her spirits and put on her happy mask and smiled at them both kindly. She made friendly conversation with them and that made her glad. Verla hadn't seen this new girl before, though she seemed nice enough to become friends with her. Verla took out her wand as it grew darker and said "Lumos" and her wand lit up. "Finally some light, ooh, it's warm too." Verla shivered slightly, she still wasn't going inside because she didn't want Kyden to be alone if the girl left.
