The Woods
Much like the Ashwoods' home, the woods near said home were just as peculiar. The trees looked like claws from a horror movie, and you swear someone, or even something, was watching you between the trees. Even in the mid-morning light, the trees hunkered over everyone, seemingly ready to grab for their latest victims. The slight sprinkle of rain encourages a mist to form across the ground.

For Vale, the woods used to be her favorite play spot when it came to hide n' seek with her older brother.

For you, it'll be an axe-throwing disaster waiting to happen.

Next to Vale, her family would be watching and ensuring the game is being productive, and if they needed to, intervene out of good will that a child wouldn't be missing an extra limb or two in the mean time. Adana is quietly helping her mother-in-law with knitting something with black yarn, Raydon is half-asleep on a log with his gardening hat covering his face, and Duncan is being his usual self and picking away at the trees and eating whatever lurks on them.

Only Aunt Burgle was missing, off doing who knows what.

Next to Adana is a small, medical kit. Despite the many adults around, even Adana still felt concerned enough to bring such a thing with her.

Vale would be in one of her many black dresses along with a big, black bow resting in her hair. She stood in the center of the area meant for their game. Bull's eye targets rested on the many trees. And next to her, were many baskets of small axes.

"Axe-Throwing is easy! Papa taught me how to do it right!" Vale giggled. She bounced along towards one of the baskets and pulled an axe out. Despite her small frame, she held the axe with both hands with ease. She stood in front of one of the many targets behind a makeshift, dark line. She raised the axe up, and threw it...

...and it landed! A bull's eye! It was natural for her, shrugging her shoulders and turning back around to her invited friends.

"See? You might not get the hang of it at first. Think of the tree like your sworn enemy in need of a good chopping." She nodded, "Everyone get into teams, if you murderously please! Best of luck" Vale was ready to sit down next to her brother on the log until his voice rang out.

"Vale, you forgot something." He spoke underneath his hat, still appearing asleep. Vale paused, tilting her head. Normally, she did not forget anything. It was an awkward silence until she clapped her hands together when the realization hit her. "Oh, yes! The woods have a weird fog that comes in every now and again. We'll keep playing even if it makes it harder to see. One team at a time. Can't be losing heads so soon already. The team that gets fifty points first is the winner." Her brother didn't say anymore, giving Vale the idea that she said enough.

"After this, mama will make us all lunch!" And there Vale sat, picking up something near her to reveal a new doll, a wonderful and thoughtful gift from her friend @Liana Kerr. She hugged it and smiled as her friends would be going in danger of losing their very heads from a badly thrown axe.

The Rules
  • The only stat that matters here is accuracy. Remember, you do not have wands on you, so casting magic is out of the question.
  • This is all on a test run. I might make mistakes here or there or find out something that isn't exactly making this event fun for everyone. If in need, I'll find a way to remove the issue.
  • Difficulty Class (DC) set at 5 or higher. 1d25 dice will be rolled for this part. If dice does not pass, the axe will miss. If a nat1 is rolled, there is a secret surprise that can occur. +0 points for misses.

Pass 5, target is hit. The score is as followed:
    <5: Target missed: +0 points
    >=5: Outer ring hit: +1 point
    >=10: Second outer ring hit: +2 points
    >=15: Middle ring hit: +3 points
    >=20: Inner ring hit: +4 points
    =>25: Bull's eye! +6 points
  • The Fog seems to come in every so often. 1/3 chance the fog will roll in and affect accuracy for a round. It even has a strange, musky smell that can affect all senses. If it's in affect, -3 accuracy will occur for a round for all players. Blindvision is not immuned. (1D3 dice is rolled; when rolled on 3, fog takes effect for one round duration; dice is rolled every round).
  • The woods' gentle sprinkle of water seems to have an effect on your handling. Be careful not to slip! 1/5 chance to auto-miss due to poor axe grip. (1d5 dice is rolled, if rolled on a 5, the auto-miss goes into effect; this is rolled for all players).
  • The team who reaches 50 points first win the reward of 25 frog cards each team member. As stated, didn't plan to go crazy with the rewards.
  • Dice rolls are occurring in the official .io discord server under #bot-spam, for those wishing to ensure they are getting fair rolls or wanted to see ahead of time on what they receive. I won't have an exact time that I'll be scheduling this, but I'll try to keep note of the rolls being finished in the first year party thread.

The oozing fog and slight humid feel to the air caused Hunter's glasses to fog up a bit. He had to take them off in order to allow his accuracy to be a lot better and not be the one to drag his team down during this scary fun event. Luckily his glasses were just for style; he didn't really have any medical issues with his eyes. Although, they did help in calming his anxiety when around many students, and it did cause Hunter to feel a bit delirious when his surroundings lost their slight tint of yellow. He wore his glasses so often, the world not being a bit yellow was actually unusual for him.

He looked over at his teammates and was a bit happy to see someone familiar and unfamiliar. He recalls Ms. Hawkins from a dueling event that occurred a while back, but Mr. Jupe was someone Hunter didn't know or had even seen.

Hunter reached into his hoodie to take out his classic pen and journal. Outside or inside, Hunter was always taking notes. His journal typically held notes on students that he met, and a few potions he practiced on his own time. He flipped toward the pages in which he had his first duel, and it included a few of the students in the area. He felt a little worried in recollection that Ms. Hawkins had some accuracy issues during the duel, but it seemed closer to the fact that the targets she shot at were dodging rather well. Hunter didn't make any comments or say anything to his teammates. A combination of being nervous, but also rather focused on his writing. Whenever Hunter wasn't up to throw an ax, he'd be making notes on each student's accuracy. Hunter knew he was decent when it came to dodging, and knowing who had decent accuracy would be important if he ended up conflicting with anyone here in the future.

This event made Hunter a bit curious, wondering if he'd be able to wield and throw an ax just as well as Vale did. Just how different were their families? If he landed a bulls-eye on the first try, does that mean he's more Ashwood than he thought?

Dialogue: Liana - #09621b
Interacting with: Nobody
Outfit: Black robes
Axe-throwing seemed very much like something the brutish Muggles would come up with. It shouldn't have come as a surprise that the Ashwoods had adopted the sport - after all, while pureblooded, they were probably so used to being called 'blood traitors' by now that it sounded like a perfectly neutral term to them. Contemplating this, Liana turned the axe she'd picked up over in her hands, unsure as to how she should even hold it. Should her grip be in the middle of the handle? Or closer to its end? Vale had demonstrated how to do it, but only once, and very quickly. It wasn't likely that they would receive any further instructions, either. One thing was certain, though - she would have to hold it and throw it with both hands; no way she would get that thing all the way to the target with just one hand, it was way too heavy.

Father would likely be appalled at the sight of her holding such crude weapons, when a wand was all that a witch needed in a combat. But then again, Father had also told her to play along with the Ashwoods' oddities. As long as they're not too harmful. This activity was probably bordering on being extremely harmful, though - a bunch of kids tossing axes around was bound to cause trouble. But surely Vale's family would be there to quickly heal anyone who got injured? They wouldn't want the backlash from the angry parents, or the possible repercussions from the Ministry.

Liana focused her attention on her designated target. It would have been so easy to hit with a spell, the distance wasn't that long. With an unwieldy weapon, though, the bullseye seemed almost unreachable. It was best to just go with it and hope to not fail too badly, she supposed. The girl raised the axe above her head with both hands, aimed, and threw.

Sure, the forest was a bit foggy, but Avery thought nothing of it. For all he knew, it was probably part of the Ashwood aesthetic and decor. He fully expected some sort of magical fog-making machine billowing gloomy fumes to be hiding somewhere amongst the trees and shrubbery. So far, the Ashwood mansion had been very well put-together, in his opinion, if a bit creepy. But it was so intriguing Vale-like, that he had to admire it. He only wished his family were as cool as hers.

Avery watched as Vale landed a perfect throw in her demonstration. "Wow, Vale," he clapped, amazed at what the girl could do. "Have you ever, like, tried to do this at a moving target?" he asked, thinking that she could probably hit something that moved if she could land such a good one at a stationary target. Perhaps she should try if she hadn't. He only hoped that the moving target she chose wasn't live.

He watched in horror as Hunter Argentum took his glasses off for the event. What, was he trying to look cool now? Didn't people in movies take off their glasses whenever they got serious? But he was quite sure Hunter actually needed his glasses, considering the amount of reading the bookish Ravenclaw likely did, and the copious amount of notes he took everywhere certainly required one to strain their eyesight, especially if one's surroundings were dark and foggy. "Are you sure you won't be needing them, pal?" he couldn't help but ask skeptically. He didn't want Hunter to mistaken him for a tree.

He watched as Liana picked up an axe. Truth be told, it was an odd sight. The pureblooded girl wouldn't possibly wield such a hefty muggle tool of her own accord. He almost snorted at the idea of lumberjack Liana Kerr cutting trees.

"We got this, Ari and Clair," he said encouragingly to his two teammates to get them pumped for a win. He lugged an axe out of the pile. It was heavier than the small boy imagined, but quidditch had made him stronger than he had been last summer. "Just watch me land a bullseye, everyone," he said with a grin, and threw the thing, quite confident that he could do better than most.

Della had watched The Addams Family when she was younger, and she had mostly enjoyed the film—but now she was certain she was living in it, and usually a trip to the Addams mansion wasn't enjoyable for its guests. She had expected that Vale's peculiarities would not expect to her family or their property—a naive expectation in hindsight. Well, she has survived one night, and today, she might as well release some anxiety by throwing axes.

Della looked around, hoping that the fog would be kept at bay—the partygoers had started to assemble near the looming forest. Vale's family members were present, hopefully to intervene with wayward axes. Della's true reasoning for saying yes to the strange Slytherin's invitation was to grow closer to the group of people she always seemed to find herself with—even the hostess herself, who had been a commendable teammate in their team duel. Her axing throwing team, Faye and Draven, seemed like a great place to start today, neither of whom she had spent really any time around "Are you ready team? I don't think I've ever thrown an ax, but Vale does make it look easy!"

She carefully lifted an ax, an action that needed both hands, and raised it above her shoulder next to her head. She was keenly aware of how sharp it must be and hoped her aim was true. Her eyes were locked on her target and she reeled back a little and put her weight into the throw.

Avery and Liana were also preparing their throws—they looked just as lost as Della at this. It was easy to guess that ax throwing wasn't a common sport in the wizarding world. Hunter, the Ravenclaw boy, seemed to be living up to his house's studious nature; Della wanted to enjoy her spring break, but it was hard not to be reminded of school with Hunter's incessant scribbling. She wondered if he was writing about his peers, and what would be worse: finding out what he had written about her or finding out he had not said anything about her at all.

Clair had never thrown a axe at anything other then a log, and that was not really axe throwing, that was more of... Splitting wood, a lot more boring if you were to ask her!

she might not have been as freaked out the thrown the axe if she were somewhere else, that maybe was less creepy, while the people who lived there were very nice, and a bit strange, Clair still felt like she was at a haunted house, and the fact that Vale had just said about weird fog had just made Clair feel like it would be a lot worse, and soon.

Clair had been on Avery's team in duels before, and they had met at that Hot Pot Party that had gone very wrong, (you can thank the angry Eagles) and Ari was on her Broom racing team as her Co-Captain, she had worked with both boys and felt good to work with them as a team, She trusted that they would at least walk away from this with maybe all their limbs on, and their head, but who knew? This was the Ashwoods, and they did seem.... Different.

She nodded to Avery and Ari, "Yup, lets do this."
And then she got ready to throw her Axe.

Of all the stupid things Ari had done within the past year, this was probably the stupidest.

After arriving at the Ashwood manor, Ari found himself in quite a comfortable situation. He liked the family's peculiarities. They reminded him a lot of a muggle show he watched in his free time at home. So far, this party was fun.

But that was beside the point. The fact that Ari signed up for axe throwing with the Ashwoods was the stupid thing, not the party itself. They knew what they were doing, and he so dearly did not. What if he hurt one of them? Would Vale get mad at him?

"Perhaps I made a mistake." He admitted to Clair nervously as he walked out into the fog towards the forest near the property of the manor. She was on his team apparently."I don't know why I keep finding myself in situations like this. It worries me."

As usual, Ari found himself glancing at Draven and Juni. Any time they were around, he always watched them out of the corner of his eye. They were pretty people to watch, and they would probably do well with this challenge. He also caught sight of Noah, a friend of his that he was getting used to seeing again after a lengthy absence. He waved at Noah shyly.

Vale explained how this would work, and Ari overexamined every word she said. He had to make sure he didn't do anything wrong. Axes were weapons, and he was not the violent type.

He found an axe that seemed to his liking, though most of them looked the same. He picked it up and turned it in his hands, getting used to its weight. When he was confident in his comfort, he took his place.

Here goes everything, He thought. He lifted the axe like Vale had demonstrated, then released it with force, hoping it would find its target.

When Habib accepted Ashwood's invitation to a party, he was taken aback. He hadn't expected axe throwing to be one of the events, but then again, what did he expect from Ashwood? Habib thanked his lucky stars that Ashwood found him amusing enough that she didn't decide to get rid of him. Habib prepared his arm, drew it back, and threw with all of his might. Habib's Axes flew through the foggy mist and disappeared from his vision Habib finished his throw and began to reflect on why he had come to this party in the first place, aside from his genuine, if tentative, friendship with Vale. His Daddy had told him to do so because he wanted Habib to be friendly with Ashwood. He was under the impression that Vale would one day become Lady Ashwood, but Habib wasn't sure, and he didn't argue with his father. He recalled that there was a lot of teasing from his siblings. "Ooh Habib's getting himself a girlfriend," Fleamont had said, and Luke had given Habib a knowing look that said, It's okay to have a crush," to which he smacked both of them in the face and just told them to keep quiet. Of course, Elizabeth, or Ellie for short, just stood there, perplexed. Habib sat down and waited after snapping out of it.

----Vale was having the time of her life already enjoying the throws being made. It would only until she realize that something wasn't right. Oh no, they were missing someone! No wonder the numbers seemed off. Well, no matter. That means she could axe throw with friends then! But...where did they go? Were they ever here? It was bad host behavior to not keep track of guests.

"Moving targets? Hm, I would but that sounds rather illegal." Vale didn't realize Avery didn't mean live moving targets. She'd giggle at the thought either way.

She sat Liana's gifted toy down on the log to join in, she clapped her hands together in delight and turned to getting herself an axe. She couldn't wait to find the perfect nickname for her new doll. It was quite a lovely thing. To think her friend was so thoughtful on such a gift!

"It might be fun having no vision and throwing with such risk though..." A smile returned back onto her face and she turned back to her turn on axe-throwing.

"Let's see if I can get a bull's eye again!" She crackled, and with a stretch of her muscles, she swung her axe towards a target. How fun! How fun indeed! Vale looked over to her family for a moment.

Vale's mother would shake her head at her daughter's eagerness to join in despite promising to sit back as a host. Her brother kept his hat covering his face, uncaring about how everything seems to be going while her father kept at...whatever he doing with the bugs on a tree. Eating them, it seems. Vale will ask to join him later on what he was doing.

"Come on guys! Make sure to have a good swing at it!" Without missing a step, Vale swung her axe forward.

Noah was in his... sweater... with a interior of flannel alongside the sleeve, a cut in the elbow of the fabric would show that there was indeed red and black flannel. Then you would notice a white collar of his undershirt stick out above the sweater neck gap.

His glasses would be the final noticeable thing about him as he walked towards where the dangerous game were to be played. Why wouldn't they play something nice for once? Like... something that doesn't revolve around doom and gloom... maybe they could play Ring A Ring of Posies... no that was too dark... hmm... Spin The Bottle? Nah. Noah didn't want to think about kissing, especially after losing his boyfriend. Truth or- nah. Noah was already going to play it... and he was afraid of what would happen. He so desperately hoped Vale and her family did not have medieval torture devices, such as the Iron Maiden everyone spoke of.

"V-Vale- Y-you invited me here... are you going to k-kill me?" He stuttered out, wiping off his glasses which had fogged up in the midst of his panic.

But even if Vale were to respond to him or not, Noah would bound up and down to Hunter. He hoped Hunter would be a friend that could protect him, no matter the issue. Could Hunter be Noah's best friend? Someone who could be there for him when he needs help? He hoped that today would prove that point, and if it didn't... Noah would just deal with the two he has already.
