The Ravenclaw was thankful that Marius seemed to understand what she meant about Nina, as he nodded in understanding though didn't comment any further on it. She supposed he wouldn't have much to say on the subject, considering he doesn't have a pet of his own. Adelaide nodded, "It's definitely a hard decision choosing what pet you want," she said, "there were so many pets in the Magical Menagerie that any pet lover would rightfully be overwhelmed when asked what pet they wanted. Though, I suppose if you want an animal that can ride in your pocket, it'd have to be very small. Maybe a rat?" She suggested to him, "Personally, I wouldn't get a rat. Though I've seen plenty of students with rats so to each their own, I guess." The young girl wasn't a big fan of rats or mice, they creeped her out and definitely were not her ideal pet. Not to mention the fact that cats and mice are not a good combination in the slightest.
"You could also get a spider," she shivered as she said suggested it, her mouth turning up in disgust, "though if you do I'm afraid I might not speak to you. I hate spiders, they're so creepy and the way they have 8 legs and they're so tiny and fast and just... ew. No. Don't get a spider." A fear of spiders definitely was not a rare fear, a lot of people aren't fans of the creatures and rightfully so, Adelaide thought. It also didn't help that Acromantulas were a thing, and she was almost certain one was in the Forbidden Forest right this moment. The blonde definitely had to change the topic before she couldn't sleep tonight, "Okay, enough talk about spiders. But yes, I do think it'd be a good idea to discuss with Professor Proulx about what creature to get."
As she felt Nina brush against her leg, it made Adelaide realize that the two first years were standing in the middle of the corridor, having a conversation. Of course she was aware of where she was, but she now just realized that it could look slightly weird to anyone passing by. "Hey, do you think we should move somewhere else? Instead of just standing in the middle of the corridor, we could end up disturbing someone," she asked Marius before an idea came to her mind, "how about we head to the library? We could look through some books on magical creatures, maybe you'll even find a pet-friendly one that you'd want in the future." She left the suggestion hanging in the air, awaiting a response as she picked up Nina again.

The topic shifted completely from the slight touching of their families to Marius' potential pet, and to be honest, the Hufflepuff was very glad. Now that he had reasonably guess his fellow first year came from quite a wealthy family, he really could not predict how she would react should she found out that his was not. Whether she would look down on the boy or pitied him, Marius did not like either possibility. Being eleven, it did not even occur in his mind that Adelaide might not care the slightest.
The Ravenclaw first suggested a rat, but Marius politely declined. "I don't think I could ever like rats. They're always one of farmers' biggest foes," he said.
Her next suggestion was to get a spider, but the brown-eyed preteen did not like it, either. "I'd prefer something cuddly," he informed her, "although I think they're still better than rats." With that, he unconsciously had made rather clear that he was quite fond of spiders. He did not confront her or something , though; there was no way she could know it at first place, was there?
At the end, it seemed that Adelaide agreed asking Professor Proulx was a good idea. She then suggested them to leave for the library and find a book about magical creatures. Marius looked at his watch and decided there was still time before dinner. Before agreeing, though, he asked the Ravenclaw, "What about Nina, though? I don't think it would be a nice idea to take her to the library with us. I mean... you know... you'll never know with animals - what if she can't stop meowing and disturbs others, or if she gets bored and potentially destroys a book?"

The blonde nodded as Marius spoke, "A cuddly pet?" She tilted her head in thought, "A pygmy puff is definitely cuddly, and they're really adorable. They can also easily fit in your pocket!" Adelaide couldn't help but shudder as Marius claimed he thought spiders were better than rats, "I definitely do not agree. I'd take a rat over a spider any day. Honestly, I don't know what exactly about spiders freaks me out so much, they're just so creepy and I always get goosebumps whenever I see one," she had to mentally block out an image of the 8-legged fiends that had tried to surface in her mind because of the conversation.
The young girl couldn't help but be glad at the change of topic, though Marius' question made her stop and ponder her answer. "I could leave her in the common room and meet you at the library? Say, in 10 minutes time? I would let her explore some more, but I'd rather I be with her in case she can't find her way back to the common room, and I wouldn't want her to be a disturbance in the library. I could let her roam the common room for a while, she does love attention from everyone, so I think she'd enjoy that," the cat in question meowed in her arms, and Adelaide stroked the kitty's fur in admiration. She looked back up at Marius, awaiting the boy's response.

"They do," said the Hufflepuff firmly in reply to the blonde's question about rats and crops. "Rats, mice, all rodents. No wonder in many cultures they are used to symbolise negative things!" He did not mean to, but perhaps he had said all of these with a tone which indicated a strong feeling of dislike.
He liked it much better when Adelaide suggested a pygmy puff as his ideal pet. He did like this magical beast, but strangely, another part of him seemed to wish for a bowtruckle instead. What was weird with this reaction was that bowtruckles were neither cuddly nor permitted by the school to be kept as students' pets; so why would he prefer them simply because he had read about them? Marius even had never met one in real life.
But whether he preferred a bowtruckle or a pygmy puff, this did not matter at all right now, as the boy lacked money needed to properly keep them. Even if he would not spoil them like many pet owners nowadays did, Marius guessed that he would still need to spend Galleons on them; it did not seem possible to feed them something he could grab for free from the Great Hall.
The two preteens talked some more, and finally the Ravenclaw suggested they could find some books about animals in the school library. The eleven-year-old agreed with this, and after a short discussion, Adelaide decided to leave Nina in her Common Room and meet Marius in about ten minutes at the library. Agreeing with her solution, the Chinese-English boy gave her a thumb up and answered cheerily, "Sure, sounds great. So... meet you at the library in ten, then?"

Though the boy didn't say anything, he seemed to like the idea of having a pygmy puff as a pet, and Adelaide felt a sense of satisfaction at being able to help the boy find an ideal companion. The Ravenclaw hoped he would be able to get one soon, so he could have someone to accompany him on his journey in Hogwarts. It seemed unfair to Adelaide that a boy who clearly loved animals, who lives on a farm and has likely grown up surrounded by them doesn't have their own pet. Even though the girl normally can't control the words that came out of her mouth, she knew better than to ask about that in this current situation, especially since the last time the topic had come up he had grown noticeably quiet, and she guessed it was likely a sensitive topic for him.
"Yep!" Adelaide agreed, equally cheerful as she smiled at him. She would give him a thumbs up, but her arms were currently occupied with her overly fluffy kitty snuggled up comfortably in them, "I'll meet you at the library!" She sent one last smile in Marius' direction before turning on her heel and walking back towards the Ravenclaw common room.Thread left.
