It had been a long time since Everly had last picked up her violin, and she figured today would be the day she finally made that trip to the Rehearsal Room. After all, the new year was a good time as any to get back into the habit of things since she'd fallen out of it. Her violin had started to become more of a background thing than a focus in her life from a few months ago, and the last she'd practiced a piece had been around a month ago. She'd been putting it off for a bit, giving herself excuses to not do it ("Homework is important! It's better if I finish it early!"), but today would finally be the day. And so, she would finally pick up the violin case sitting patiently next to her bed, the bag containing her sheet music and shoulder rest, and traverse down three floors to the Rehearsal Room.

It wasn't like she expected anyone to be there already. She didn't know who in their right mind would decide to visit the Rehearsal Room Friday evening - her aside. As was any other Friday evening, students were likely crowded together in the Great Hall or their common rooms, conversing with others or doing homework. Everly would be among them if it weren't for her sudden urge and impulsive decision to take a short trip to the Rehearsal Room.

That said, the Rehearsal Room was deserted except for her. It was January, meaning that it was already dark when she stepped into the room, despite it being a ways from supper. The sound echoed throughout the room when Everly set her violin down on the ground, searching for the lamp that lit the room. Once she found it, she looked through her papers for something to work on. After a few moments of fruitless searching, she came up empty, with sheet music covered in past scribbles of notes. She pulled a random one out, gave it a quick scan over, and placed it on the music stand. With a short nod to assure herself that no, she did not cause her downfall by refusing to play for a month, she began some scales to warm up.

If you asked someone that knew Cash well where they would be every Friday? That person probably will say either in the Rehearsal Room or at the Great Lake under one of the Oak tree but since it still January and the weather is unfriendly outside to spend hours seated under the weather, the green eyes opted the Rehearsal Room instead.

After the last class for the day was done, the green eyes change their school uniform into more comfortable attire. Cash's eyes looked at their guitar that rest on top of their bed in their dorm. It had been a while since the Cuban descendant has not played the 6-strings instrument but somehow the young Ironwoods felt a bit melancholy today.

They even wear the necklace that their father gave to them for their 12th birthday. Something that Cash rarely wears these days. The necklace reminded them of that unfortunate event of the worst day in both Cash and their mother's lives. Wearing the necklace sometimes hurts the young socialite. One last look at the mirror and Cash out of their Common Room.

Living in the deepest part of the Castel has its own pro and cons. The pro part, it kept Cash and the other Slytherins' students healthy as they climbed up the many many stairs. The cons part of it, is Cash is more often winded up especially when they have Astronomy class. While making their way up to the Rehearsal Room, Cash toying with their necklace.

Their plan for today is to play a song or two on the piano, pour their heart out, and be done with it. But when they reached the big heavy wooden door of the room, it seems the room was not as available as Cash would like. From behind the door, the green eyes faintly hear some melody being played from inside the room.

The young Ironwoods pushed the door gently and this time the sound more palpable. The person that stood in the room played some scales on her Violin and they did not know who the girl was since Cash can only see her back. The green eyes lean against the door frame and for a minute or so they let the scales that the girl played seeped into them.

Cash always has a soft spot for Violin though they would not admit it out loud. Violin reminds them of the person that they love. Their mother and Kara. Remembering the latter name still hurts the green eyes and it reminds them of the letter that Cash received before Christmas. The Beater took a deep breath and pushed themselves off of the wooden frame and walked deeper into the room.

It felt nostalgic, the wave of emotion and trance that went over her as she shifted and drew the bow back and forth across the strings. She loved moments like these, without a care in the world, without worrying about what she needed to do.

Everly had been drifting off, lost somewhere in repeating the scale again and again, until she heard footsteps behind her, and ended with a flourish, self-satisfied. She spun around, still in her happy little cloud-nine mood. Bow in hand, violin set aside gently, ready to cheerfully greet whomever it was that had just entered the room.

Everly stopped short, mid-spin.

"Cash?"

It hadn't been meant to sound like a question.

The last time she'd seen the Slytherin was in an unfortunate play of events, back in first year, just about a year ago. They'd first met through Starlee, whom Everly knew to be one of their closest friends. Then, she had somehow managed to irk them too, to the point where Everly had decided to just, y'know, avoid everything, something she seemed to be recently doing more than not. That was until last summer when she finally made the reasonable decision to just stop and finally figure out everything. That involved apologizing to, well, everyone. She really couldn't afford to piss another person off.

Perhaps another person might view it as stupid. It was, sort of, except Everly still felt a tide of shame and idiocy. She needed to fix everything, otherwise, it would probably haunt her mind forever.

Everly Charlton. Can she fix it?

No, not at this point at least.

"Hi," She started slowly, still unsure what Cash thought of her at the moment, if they still remembered her from almost a year ago. At least, Everly hadn't forgotten. "Um."

As the girl kept drawing her bow across the strings of the instrument that she played, the girl that still had her back facing away the green eyes seems like lost in the melody and scales that she did. Just like a creature being hypnotic by the crescendo of the strings, Cash walked further inside the room. Their initial plan was to watch the girl in silence.

At the last thought when the young Ironwoods repeated again in their head, that sound a bit creepy and stalkerish. Cash was better than that. Their parents raised them to have more manners than watching people from afar and in silence. Cash was about to head towards the piano bench when the girl in question paused what she doing and face the young socialite.

"Do not stop on my acc-,"Whatever they wanted to say was halted when at the same time the mysterious girl called out their name. The perks of being a Quidditch player is everybody knows your name. The Latinx blinked their eyes. Cash vaguely remembered and swore that they had seen the girl before. They blinked for several moments, trying to gauge their brain to conjure the girl in question's name.

The girl then greeted them in an unsure manner. Cash still trying to put the name into the face until something clicked inside their brain. Finally, Cash remembered who she was. Once or twice Cash saw her hanging out with Starlee. If their memory served them correctly; Cash, Everly, and Starlee had done some errand together a while back ago.

Suddenly what Everly had done to them a year ago came back and the same irritating feeling that they felt after that unfortunate event resurfaced. "YOU!"Cash expressed with a hard tone and pointed their finger at Everly. "You are the person that bonked me with that bloody thick book,'They stated. "You almost gave me a concussion from that wretched thing you did to me,"Cash said.

A bit of exaggeration on the matter but Everly does not have to know the truth. "I remembered I said I will give you hell back then, and I think it was about time, don't you think?"They inquired Everly sarcastically. Cash walked deeper and deeper into the room until they came face to face with Everly. Their first initial thought after seeing Everly up close, the girl was not that bad in the eyes.

But their annoyance at the girl won out more than their absurd feeling. Cash shook out from their stupor about having a sudden crushing feeling on Everly upon both of the students' first meeting. A proper meeting this time. There was no way Cash had a sudden crush on Everly when the third year knew next to nothing about Everly except she is Starlee's closet friend or perhaps maybe Everly is one of Starlee's best friends.

The Beater then looked down. "A year too late but I think you owe me something, cariñ darling"They uttered with annoyance clearly laced in their words. "Out with it! I do not have all day to wait you around, Charlton!"They said then Cash let out a mischieve smile while plotting in their head a way for Cash to get back at Everly without them getting into trouble and landing themselves in detention.

Cash's reaction was far from what Everly'd been hoping for. After all, it had been a year since that rather unfortunate incident, and they'd gotten along fine (through Starlee) before, she recalled, as they'd done that icing cookies errand together. She really didn't want her and Cash to not get along—it would be inconvenient, in sorts, if they didn't.

Everly seemed to recognize Cash much faster than Cash recognized her, and when they did, Everly grew defensive, leveling a glare at the finger pointed in her direction. Did they think Everly had meant to do so on purpose? "I did apologize," she said carefully. She had, hadn't she? And felt very, very bad about it afterward, even after her apology. Even though she hadn't stuck around long enough to see the Slytherin's response.

"Wait, did I?" Her mouth dropped open slightly. If Everly didn't already feel bad enough then, now she felt worse. She hadn't known that book could've given them a concussion. Even if she didn't particularly like Cash that much at the moment, she still felt terrible. "Oh my god. I am—so, so sorry. Were you alright?"

Maybe she shouldn't keep switching sides every other moment, but she couldn't figure out whether or not she should be mad, worried, or frustrated. But, as she soon realized, man, could they hold a grudge. It had been over a year, and they were still upset. And, to be fair, Everly figured that she might be able to hold a grudge that long herself if she were that agitated over something, but it wasn't very nice to be on the opposing side.

Her nose scrunched as she furrowed her brows at Cash, only slightly irked. "I think I don't owe you a damn thing, Ironwoods." Her words were only as bold as she made them out to be, trying to summon some courage in whatever the Sorting Hat had seen in her, as small as she felt and as much as she wanted to sink into the floor and run away.

She shook herself out. Everly couldn't be that intimidated so easily. She lifted her head to meet Cash's eyes—green ones with little flecks of gold, she noted, for some reason—acting a lot more confident than she was.

As Cash waited for the apology that Everly may or may not owe them, the green eyes tapped their shoes against the floor and put on their most annoyed face that Cash could conjure. They are annoyed but still as Cash silently paid attention to Evely from her head to her toes, there was something different about the second year that makes Cash's heart beat a bit irregularly.

"I did apologize,"The Gryffindor said and that's what bring Cash back to reality again. They knitted their eyebrows as a way of thinking whether Everly had apologized that day or not. Maybe she did or maybe she did not, whatever that may be, Cash had no recollection the apology ever occurred. Or perhaps like many times, their memory had failed them.

Cash is about to retort again. About to say to the Lioness that her apology never happened but it seems Everly beat them to the punch. "Wait, did I?,"Her mouth drops slightly as if she had sudden recollection and was a bit unsure. Cash take a deep breath and was about to open their mouth to give Everly their piece of mind.

"Oh my god. I am—so, so sorry. Were you alright?,"She inquired the young Ironwoods. This whole hot and cold that Everly played at this point give the Beater a whiplash. Cash did not know whether they should still be annoyed at Everly or feel something else. She is pretty, do not you agree? the back of their mind said to Cash.

They shake their head trying to dismiss the thought but as far as Cash paid more attention to Everly, they were afraid their unconsciousness was right. Cash started to feel something for the other girl but they will not give in to their feeling easily. "At that time no,"They inform the Gryffindor. "That bloody book of yours gives me a major headache but whatever,"They tried to play it cool.

At least Everly said sorry. Not the apology Cash was hoping or looking for but at least Everly feel bad and said she was sorry. That is close enough for the Cuban descendant. And even though Cash wanted to hold out their grudge much longer, it happened a year ago. They were more annoyed at Everly than anything else. Cash was ready to turn into a new leaf.

Leave whatever the things that Cash was annoyed at Charlton behind but with the tone Everly using, that annoyance comes back and resurfaces. "I think I don't owe you a damn thing, Ironwoods,"Charlton bites back after Cash had pointed their finger at the other girl. "You know what,"Cash said with annoyance.

"I was ready to forgive you even though you think you do not owe me anything and put whatever this is,"Cash gestured their hand back and forth between them and Charlton. "Behind us. But since clearly, you are so self-righteous about being right, I'm done here"Cash put both of their hands up in the air.

They looked around the Rehearsal Room. Their playing mood was long gone and thanks to Charlton, Cash had no mood to do whatever related to music. "Thank you for ruining my mood. It seems every time we met, you manage to do that which not many people can do. So, kudos to you!"Cash spoke sarcastically.

Maybe they crossing the line and borderline rude to Everly but Cash could care less whether they hurt Charlon's feelings or not. "You can have all the room to yourself, for all I care. I am out of here"They pursed their lips. Cash just wants to feel peace and blend with the music, is that too much to ask?

But now that mood is gone and replaced with a foul mood created by one Everly Charlton as they turned around and walked out of the room.
CASH HAS LEFT THE THREAD
