Background
Rosie Turner was born and raised in London. Her father moved from the United States to take a position at the University of London as a professor in history. Her mother, Mary Turner nee Brooks was teaching nursing in the same school at the time when the two met. Soon after they were married, Rosie was born and Mary took a step back from her professional life to focus on staying home with Rosie.
When Rosie was about three, Mary found religion and things at home began to change. While her father was still open minded to the world, her mother's view seemed to narrow. When she was about four, her sister, Amanda, was born.
Mary loved her family very much, but the girls was shielded and kept from anything deemed "ungodly". She was taught from a young age that there was only one true religion and one way to live. This resulted in a lack of a social life for Rosie.
Needless to say, when Rosie's OWL arrived regarding Hogwarts, her mother was very much against her going. The woman had a legitimate fear for Rosie's soul. Though Rosie's father had trouble believing it was anything but a prank or a scam. However, as the OWLs kept coming, the Turner's were forced to come to the conclusion that Rosie was, indeed, a witch. Anthony put his foot down and made the decision that Rosie would go to Hogwarts.
Even now, as Rosie is officially enrolled in Hogwarts, she still worries that her mother might be right. But she's here now, and she's going to give it all.
