There was a scent of baked goods in the air, and it was quite frankly pretty odd seeing as Enrico was in a classroom, surrounded by his many first-year peers in coloured robes according to their houses. The room was divided equally with students from all four of Hogwarts’ houses spread widely, as was customary during Charms classes. Enrico had found himself sitting in between a Slytherin whose hair was as red as the sun, and his skin as white as milk, and a Gryffindor girl whom he could only remember the face of from the sorting ceremony.
The day was chilly, but comfort was found easily the more the students moved around. They had just gotten tasked to further practice a charm they were recently taught and make sure that they can cast it efficiently without struggle. Enrico, however, was finding it rather difficult to accomplish such a task. See, he was still overwhelmed by the fact that till around five months ago his life was pretty normal and dull, and now he had found himself in a magical school that actually educated wizards and witches. Every night he pinched himself before sleeping to make certain that he was dreaming, and the rush of serotonin that ran through his body every time he confirmed that he was not, made him the happiest little boy in the castle. He was truly so content and willing to be the best in his year. A part of him wanted to make up for all the times he misbehaved during his time at the muggle school he attended. The other was to fulfil his ambitions as a wizard. But that was not going according to plan.
Casting spells, enforcing your will to actually manifest such force into reality; it was easier to pretend to do so with branches, but now that he was actually required to, it became twice as hard. He followed everything his Professors were telling him, even though his mind often spiralled and zoned out into space and to the end of a galaxy billions of miles away from the one he was in. Anything that he tried to cast either simply didn’t work, or backfired in the clumsiest, most unexpected ways ever. It was quite exciting, to be frankly honest, but consequential at times too.
Anyways, once the students were asked to pair up and find a partner, to cast the Dancing Feet spell on one another, Enrico realized that he was on his own. Why, he couldn’t possibly imagine, though his mates were probably already aware of his chaotic reputation. But before he could end up lonely and throw a tantrum about it, he turned to his side, noticing that the Gryffindor girl who sat next to him was still there, without a duo of her own. Enrico grabbed her from her arm as gently as he could. He wasn’t the best when it came to making social interactions, but he didn’t know that.
“Hey! Nice to meet you, I’m Enrico!” He introduced himself without anyone asking, “neither one of us seems to have a partner. Such a shame isn’t it?” He pouted in a silly manner, making a mockery out of their situation to defy the fact that it was actually pretty sad. “Good news though, you’re stuck with me!”
Poor girl, she was not going to ever forget this, and that wasn’t essentially a good nor a bad thing.

Anemone found herself feeling out of place all too often when she was in her classes. There was a sense of knowingness from others that made her feel like she was in an imposter, even though many times so far she had shown an affinity for magic. She wasn't bad at what she did but was shy most of the time when it came to expressing her talent. Anemone didn't like to stand out or feel like a show off. Her mother often scolded her for her persistent humbleness, saying that she had stand in her worth or something. Anemone felt much more comfortable just knowing about her skills than letting others know so publicly.
Charms was one of her favorite class, and so was Transfiguration. She cherished every opportunity to use her wand because she loved the feel and sheer power of holding something like it, something that enabled her to cast spells and concoct potions that did amazing things. Potions was a close favorite of hers as well. Anemone actually liked all of her class, she only felt weary about history because that's the one she didn't do that well in. She didn't like having to memorize facts upon names upon dates. She was very hands-on and did best when she could actually experience whatever she was learning. It was similar to her father. Actually, if they let us perform the history that we're learning I probably could learn so much more faster, and better... she thought sheepishly.
Anemone focused back on what was happening now. Students were being asked to pair up to practice casting the charm spell they had been learning, the Dancing Feet spell. Even though she knew they'd be learning more advanced ones later on Anemone found it a little funny that this spell was the first they were learning. It was one that ended up making the victim look and act ridiculous.
She fingered her wand as she watched others partner up. She didn't know anyone that well yet so she sat there waiting awkwardly. Anemone was seated at a table with two boys, one a brunet Hufflepuff and the other a chalky-skinned Slytherin. She just happened to be seated with them and hadn't spoken to either of them at all.
She was thinking about getting up before the professor said something when the Hufflepuff grabbed her by the arm. "Um--"
The audacious boy introduced himself as Enrico, disregarding her brief startled state, and went on to claim her as his partner. Anemone, who was standing up by now, pursed her lips, unsure of what to say for a moment. "Uhm, okay, that's cool."
She rubbed her arm where he had grabbed her, even though it actually didn't hurt. She just felt weird about people touching her suddenly and without her permission or even a warning.
"I'm Anemone." She pushed up her glasses and glanced around. She nodded at a clear space behind her. "Let's go over there."
Given his behavior Anemone felt like she should ask about his aptitude. "I know we're both just learning but are you sure you want to practice on each other first? Maybe we can practice on something else and see..." She also didn't want to mess up and end up hurting someone, even if the professor was able to reverse it quickly. Anemone was very sure of her skill because she found that she was naturally inclined to be calm and collected when casting spells. She had to be with the wand she had, which was claimed by it's creator to be very powerful, and difficult to control at times.

Of course it was cool, Enrico was absolutely the coolest. He had a grin wide from ear to ear as he walked towards the designated area within the classroom, where most kids were practising as well. He let go of his grip on the girl in order to prevent traumatizing her any further. Nagging and literally dragging her along was enough of a persuasion method to have her join him. It worked, so it got the job done. Enrico now had a tag. It’s not like anyone was going to ask him how he even managed to partner up in the first place.
“Rico got someone to work with him? That’s a first.” Another Hufflepuff then strolled by as he bumped shoulder-first into Enrico, almost shaking loose the boy’s footing as if he wasn’t already a clumsy mess who lacked coordination while walking. Enrico first gave a stern look at the fellow classmate but then chuckled it off awkwardly, turning his attention back to his new friend. She might have not liked to be Enrico’s friend, but he sure did enjoy being hers, even if it was just five minutes into their fresh dynamic.
Once the newly-introduced Anemone had served Enrico another tongue-twister to his already long list of names and words he couldn’t pronounce properly, the boy then swiftly served his turn and returned the favour of introducing himself to another.
“I’m Enrico!” He exclaimed, offering his left hand for a shake instead of his right, completely oblivious of the difference between the two sides, and also unaware of the fact that formality had it that the right hand was usually used for handshakes.
“My friends call me Rico sometimes, but you can call me whatever you’d like, that way, I get to call you Anne!”
At her warning of whether or not should they practice on one another, Enrico felt two voices in his head, one humbling and urging him to admit his insecurities when it came to casting spells, as to prevent him from harming anyone. While the other deluded him from such foolishness and pushed him to reach his ambitious goals. Enrico remained to ponder on the situation and literally froze still in front of Anemone as if his batteries had shut down and needed to recharge. He hummed while at it, brushing his chin with a couple of his fingers.
“I agree,” he sighed, almost hinting at disappointment, “chances are I’d turn your legs into tentacles if I were to try and cast a spell on you.” That sure was to comfort the girl and help her feel more confident in her decision to agree to collaborate with Enrico.
“Perhaps we should just try out the wand movement without actually saying the spell? I don’t think there are much risks with that, is there?”

“Rico got someone to work with him? That’s a first,” said someone after seeing Enrico and her standing together. Anemone frowned, wondering what that was about. She'd rather not work with someone who was difficult to work with, especially if this was known by others. Frankly, though, she didn't mind as long as she wasn't hurt in the process. She actually got a delight from 'besting' her classmates when it came to practicing spells and potions; she felt more competent given her muggle-born status and great performance in her curriculum.
He turned back to her with a swivel in his step and introduced himself, once again, offering his left hand for a shake. Anemone shook it with pursed lips and a confused look on her face, wondering if he was perhaps just nervous or really antsy. She also wondered if he was left-handed, which would be interesting since she found that many left-handed people were more intellectually inclined than their opposite.
Enrico said she could called him Rico in exchange for him calling her Anne, which no one ever did. "Anne...," she murmured. "Um, Nem is fine, really." She wasn't sure if he was actually trying to bother her at his point but she decided to think in a positive light. They were both new to the class, and each other, after all.
The peculiar boy seemed to freeze in thought in front of her after she voiced her mild concerns about them practicing with each other. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything, she thought solemnly, hoping that she hadn't hurt his feelings. Anemone wasn't wrong to be concerned though, and it was kind of confirmed by the person earlier.
Anemone wasn't known for giving up on others easily, she was usually really thoughtful.
“I agree,” he sighed, with what she felt like was almost a hint of disappointment. “Chances are I’d turn your legs into tentacles if I were to try and cast a spell on you."
Anemone's mouth gaped for a second in mild before she shook her head in bewilderment. She was about to perhaps say an objection to working with him when he offered to only practice wand movements only. Definitely, she thought in relief.
She nodded and back up a bit to give them space. "And we can just practice saying the incantations in our heads, so it won't be too weird." She wondered how long they'd just be doing that, though. She did want to practice all parts of the spell. But she'd worry about that later.
"I don't think you should say...er, that you'd make a mistake like that when you're about to practice with someone. It's kind of scary...," But Anemone felt like she might just be too fritzy right now. Most students at this school seemed more sure of herself than other muggle-borns, even with the clear dangers of magic. They had a school nurse but it Anemone could only imagine what things were irreversible.
Anemone raised her wand, getting ready to make her movements. "What is your wand made of, by the way?" She often asked that question, hearing the strangest components at times. "Mine has dragon heartstring and cherry wood." She flicked it for emphasis, making sure to do so carefully in order not to cause any unwanted sparks to fly out.
